The Waggon in Scottish Borders

Me and my fiancé were in for lunch. She got a tartan burger and I got Mac n chips. Both were amazing. The Mac was out of this world and needs to be tried. My other half says her burger was great. I would drive from Glasgow just to come here. Only thing was the time, but, defo defo worth it.

Excellent food. Excellent service. Definitely recommended. The Chicken Fajita was deeeelicious. As apparently were the Fish & Chips, and Waggon Burger

Reasonably priced food. Good portion sizes. Good choice for families with children. Service was good and food came out quickly.

Been here a number of times but our meal ,a couple of days ago , really was a let down. I had the hamburger meal. Best thing was the cole slaw. The hamburger had no flavour at all. A dry piece of meat with hard crunchy salad, flavourless. Less chips too, i noticed. My husband, an older man, asked for a half portion ( child's portion) of fish and chips that sells for £12.25 for a full portion. He can't eat as much , being elderly. He got the half portion. (The batter on the fish was mushy, not crispy.) When it came to pay, they charged £10.50 for his half portion !! The Waggon has lost it's appeal for us.. The food has no flavour, overpriced ( especially this new idea of theirs to charge almost £70 for 2 for a small, tasteless looking steak for 2). We won't be returning again. Over rated, smaller portions on full price meals and over charge for child's portion and flavourless.

The food here was very tasty, I had the lamb burger and my partner had the Sunday roast. They even did a gluten free Toblerone cake which was great for me. Service was excellent and staff very friendly. Highly recommend eating here.

We booked this on Sat afternoon for Sat Evening. We thought we would get there a little early and enjoy a drink at the bar before we ate. However there isn’t a seating/waiting area just for the bar, so that wasn’t possible. We were shown to our table, even though we were early. The table was very small, and tucked away in a corner. It wasn’t a good first impression. Tables are not set with tablecloths, so just bare wood and cutlery. It felt a bit like they found an old table and stuck it in a corner out of the way! We ordered drinks which arrived in a timely manner. We found the staff friendly and helpful. We both ordered starters, prawn cocktail for my wife and in all honesty I can’t remember what I ordered. For mains, we both ordered the Tartan Chicken, which arrived quickly and was well presented. There was an (over) abundance of vegetables, mostly carrots, which filled the plate. We had to ask staff for cutlery to eat the mains with, which reinforced the feeling of just being stuck in a corner at the last minute. We both found this to be very tasty, and nicely cooked. Overall we weren’t over impressed with The Waggon,but there isn’t anything overly wrong with it either. As the title says, It is what it is. Decent food for a decent price, but not somewhere we would look to visit again.

Lovely relaxing atmosphere in the restaurant. There was an extensive menu and the food was very tasty. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We parked in the main street around the corner from the restaurant as there were no restrictions on time. Very near the local shops so ideal place for lunch if you're planning a shopping trip. xxx

Went with friends for lunch, the restaurant was busy but is large so it didn't feel crowded. Good selection of food on the menu, one friend had the steak and couldn't have been happier, said it was so tender and best steak she'd had in a long time. Food was delicious and staff friendly. Would definitely go back.

Great evening meal served up by very friendly staff. The burger from their ‘Specials’ menu was delicious as was my husband’s ‘Tartan’ burger (chicken).

A very busy and large restaurant. was able to book for a Friday night, a couple of hours ahead. Food menu was varied and the food of a reasonable quality, and very keenly priced.

The food was good the place clean and tidy, I think you need to speak with the staff about eating sweet whilst serving you could see her check was like a hamster then decided to pick at her teeth while speaking to a group of customers that had just arrived

Stopped for food which was amazing steak cooked perfectly to my liking good size portions and hand cut real chips. Staff very friendly and welcoming and they also allowed our dog into the establishment which was nice.

Average lunch. Servers should be told not to chew sweeties or something when serving customers .. really not a good look... also please ask them not to put their fingers in their mouths to pull said sweetie from teeth as walking through restaurant.

Out for our Son's birthday, his choice was The Waggon, absolutely no arguments from us other 3. Table was booked online and ready for us when we got there. Drinks order taken and delivered then food was ordered. We order a platter for 4 for starters and I ordered an Aberdeen Angus Steak Burger with bacon and blue cheese and sweet potato fries from the Specials menu. Starters were very tasty, hot and varied with accompanying sweet chilli amd barbecue dips. My burger was about the nicest burger I have ever had and took some eating. Only drawback is it was a Special so probably won't be on the main menu next time unless by popular demand, it is added 👍(hint hint). All 4 enjoyed our meals and the service was just right for speed and attention. Will we be back? Daft question, of course we will.

Arrived with my partner and 7 month daughter, was told that because we hadn’t booked online for our daughter ( child chair) unaware of being able to book anything that showed us that we had too. We was told we wasn’t allowed our pram nor a high chair.! Because of carpet health and safety prohibited it. So being rather concerned and confused we took the table and chairs that we was instructed. So we ordered our meal with starter arriving and juggling our daughter on knees while tryin to eat an also not skald our 7 month. So once. We finished our starter and waited a good 30 mins before anyone asked if we was ok, or if we wanted anything else. I was like I would like my main course, clearly someone had forgotten. So I noticed that we had no cutlery either as only supplied with one set. So I went to counter and asked for some cutlery and also if it was possible for our daughter to have a high chair, all I got was excuses and not a valid reason why or can someone eat with a child on there lap in a restaurant, worry about skalding there child. All we wanted was a high chair, in the end we was told it’s our own choice and risk if our daughter is on a high chair that’s on a carpet. Surely a simple task with a simple outcome, yet it fealt like our main course was delayed because of our disappointment and disagreement, End outcome we got our high chair, to the cost of £50 for a meal for two. POOR SHOW. Disappointing for our first family meal together

We’ve dined here a few times now and each time we’ve left extremely full and happy! The portions are generous and well worth the money, most restaurants seem to avoid vegetarian items but there is good options including a delicious veggie burger. Covid safety is well maintained and the servers are always pleasant - it can get busy for lunch so if you plan to dine between 12-2pm I would recommend booking so as not to be disappointed.

Six friends had dinner here after a long journey up from England. We were wandering around Kelso looking for somewhere to eat when one of the locals suggested this place, and we’re glad that they told us about it. On arrival we were shown to our table by a very pleasant waitress, and our drinks orders were taken immediately we sat down. The drinks were brought to the table soon after, and we then ordered our meals. Most of us had burgers, and I’ve never seen so many different types. The meals took around half an hour to arrive and were definitely worth the wait. Everyone agreed that their meals were hot and tasty, so you couldn’t ask for more. The bill for the meals, which also included an extra sharer meal for four people, and two rounds of drinks came to £93, so we thought that this was good value for money. We will certainly be eating here again before we travel back down south.

Had a lovely meal but they said fresh veg and hand cut chips not all frozen but must say it was still nice the big problem had to wait about 40 mins for food to arrive after ordering bit disappointed the people on the next table had the same problem not good and the place was not packed was busy but not full and then they dont say in the prices that vat is not included you only find out when you get the bill not good

Good standard of usual pub grub. i had a gammon steak, hubby really enjoyed his chicken fajitas - hot sizzling and plenty of it. It was a quiet time of day when we went so had no issues with service. Friendly waitress. Good one way layout.

Well done to this local restaurant who clearly have went the extra mile to adhere to covid restrictions. Placed large order for family and everything was delicious. It's nice to see in this pandemic customers are made to feel safe. Keep up the good work.
