Just ordered two lovely curries from the Village Sowerby Bridge, online but unfortunately the starter never arrived. So disappointed as starters are my fave.!! How hard can it be to follow an online order.... its all on the screen!!!!

With the year we’ve ad this year, wanted something totally different for Christmas dinner, so booked to sit in but with Boris’s decision ad to av a takeaway !!Wow!! Following a visit last Christmas day and the experience being so good,although we couldn't do that this year we opted to take out...and so glad we did.We cannot thank these guys enough.The food was ready on time and the amount presented and the way in which it was presented was absolutely top notch!We had starters, popadoms, rotti, sauces, curries and sides....then the absolutely stunningly presented leg of lamb served with an array of vegetables, the meat was cooked to perfection and tasted devine. We were also provided 3 desserts. A banquet fit for royalty! VERY WELL DONE GUYS.THANKYOU SO MUCH!

Was recommended to order a take away. Did so, a mixed grill on my birthday. Delivery guy short changed me, ran as fast as he could. Wasn't in any shape or form worth my total of £12. Thanks for nothing.

If you like gravy curries, this is the place for you. Too many top curries to name. I have tried most of the menu and haven’t had a bad one. Top place.

What a tough time for the hospitality business at the moment, but this restaurant was brilliant at following the safety guidelines to a tee! The food was delicious as always ! Service was a little slow , due to high demand, but staff were attentive and friendly. Would definitley recommend , and wish them lots of luck for the future.

We visited here for the last day of the Eat Out Scheme on August 31st. There was 6 of us booked in at 6.15pm. When we arrived, there was a queue of approx. 30 people outside the door and down the street. 2 members of our party had already gone in before us so we skipped the majority of the line and found them almost at the front. We had our temperatures taken (which seemed pointless as the restaurant was absolutely packed to the rafters) and were left waiting for 10 minutes in the line. We were shown upstairs and told to wait 2 minutes for our table, which we were then not sat down at until 6.55, over 40 minutes after we had booked. 2 members of our party had to leave at 7.30 for another arrangement which 1) we had booked in plenty of time to accommodate them and 2) made it very clear to the staff that they needed to leave and we needed to be seated and served ASAP. It took a further 10 minutes for our drinks to arrive, and for our order to even be taken. We had been at the restaurant for almost an hour before we ordered. At 7.25, the mains were brought out before the starters, and when I said we had ordered starters the waiter just said ‘i’ll bring them all at once’. The people who had to leave never even got to eat their meal with us and had theirs boxed up before they even touched it, and halfway home realised they didn’t have their full order. The rest of us were not offered anymore drinks or to have our starters boxed up as none of us felt like eating starter dishes after the main dishes. Furthermore, we were given plastic throwaway cutlery to eat from at a proper restaurant! I fully understand that Covid is around but I have never been to a restaurant during the scheme where I have been expected to eat off of plastic cutlery. We asked to see a manager as we were unprepared to pay full price and waited 40 minutes at the table only to be told we had to go down to see him. When we got downstairs, there was no sign of a manager just the front of house man who took our payment. We told him all of the above and he knocked off some further money and removed the starter dishes but I can safely say I will not be returning to The Village Restaurant. It is a shame as I have been here before and the food is always very lovely, but the customer service was just shocking and has spoilt the experience for me.

Have just returned from The Village restaurant, first time out for a meal since end lockdown, usually love this place but won't go again. Something has changed both in the food quality and service. We booked for 6.30, got in at 7pm, didn't mind waiting thinking that as usual food would be worth the wait. My son and husband ordered onion bhaji, when they arrived they looked like flat pancakes and tasted bland. I ordered a tandoori mixed grill as main dish expecting a combination of tandoori meat/fish. What I got was 2 onion bhaji's, 3 cubes of chicken, 2 prawns and 2 kebabs. When I pointed out this was not a tandoori mixed grill I was informed that I would receive more chicken, it never arrived. We also ordered 2 x chicken tikka masala and 1 x chicken Korma. These were served in small dessert bowls, the Korma contained 6 x peices of chicken, the portion sizes were starter size, not main as we have had on many previous occasions and from this I am going on previous visits to the Village so can compare. So so disappointed, please don't waste your hard earned money.

It is very good food that they serve here. Not groundbreakingly brilliant. And the specials are not particularly enthusing. But the buffet is excellent. As good as any. And the staff are brilliant.

Visited here last night for the first time in over 20 years. It's been recently refurbished and the decor was lovely. The place was absolutely heaving, but well organised. Despite every table being occupied and filled again as soon as it became free the sevice was very good. The food didn't disappoint. Both starters and mains were delicious. I can see why one of their own house dishes won awards. Covid precautions were in place including hand sanitizer on arrival, a one way system and I could see the tables and chairs being meticulously cleaned between customers. For the previous reviewers that moaned about plastic cutlery. I agree it's not what I want when I eat out, but it's easily solved by asking for proper cutlery. I can see why it was so busy. Will definitely go back.

Love this place. Not eaten in since lockdown in March but have had a takeaway every Friday. Booked in tonight and was really impressed totally following COVID procedures and the service and food outstanding. Totally recommend for anyone who is still anxious about eating out.

Eat Out to Help Out gone wrong! We have been quite a few times ,,,it was organised madness...even though we had booked a table we had to queue outside till a table came free..the restaurant just kept packing people in upstairs and down...drinks came quickly that was the only good thing really. The service was very slow and when the food did come the waiter did know which one was which!! we ordered curry and rice and naan bread ..meal came but no rice...now meal is sat waiting for rice and going cold...curry came in a dish! and plastic cutlery in a plastic bag!! this is meant to be a restaurant not a transport cafe!! so now i have a coldish main and when asked about where my rice was ...yes you have rice where??? so now he rice arrived and 2minutes later another one!! the service was slow and bad it put us off... this is really sad/bad ...so you can book but will be kept waiting ...service not good and trying to get the bill expect to be kept waiting for that too! no social distancing anywhere !

First visit to this restaurant. Excellent service, despite the current situation. Great food and plenty of it. Would definitely recommend.

This is our favourite curry house in the area. We have tried others local to it but always find ourselves back here. The new decor is fresh and classy. The staff are brilliant, attentive but not over bearing. The food is fantastic! My partner compares every meal we have out, with the food here. Only negative- On our first visit since restaurants reopened due to Covid-19, we were given a plastic sachet with plastic cutlery to eat our food. I understand the need to reduce the chances of infection, but this is unnecessary. Especially seen as they are not using disposable glasses as well? The cutlery was small and flimsy, if it had have been better quality It may not of been as much of a problem.

The first time since lockdown it was fab great food and service staff look after and keep you safe worth going back for time after time 100% satisfied x

I think this is genuinely the tastiest curry I’ve ever eaten! I had the chicken tikka potato masala and it was absolutely delicious. It was clear they were well prepared with necessary Covid measures having sanitizer outside the front door, temperature checks on the way in and tables were appropriately spaced out. The staff were polite and attentive. Excellent visit and I’ll certainly be visiting again very soon.

We have been here quite a few times and loved every visit. This was the first visit since Covid-19 and they were very well prepared taking temperatures on the way in with separated tables, wearing masks and very respectful of the social distancing with a one way in and out. We had Masala fish and shami kebab followed by Desi vegetable and Chicken karahi with the most amazing garlic man I have ever had anywhere. The whole thing was absolutely amazing and danced on the tastebuds. If I had only one criticism it would be the very flimsy plastic cutlery given to eat our meal with. I get why the restaurant has chosen to do this but my understanding is if they are dishwashing everything at temperature then this is sanitised sufficiently. Otherwise as always top notch and hard to be beaten.

As soon as I heard that restaurants could open I knew the first place I would be booking was The Village and I wasn't disappointed. The food as always was delicious and the staff very professional and attentive. The restaurant I thought was very covid secure with good measures in place. Hand sanitiser and a temperature check at the door. All the staff wear masks or visors and the tables are spotlessly clean. A one way system in and out is in place and payment is made at the bar where staff are behind a screen. Napkins and cutlery were in a plastic bag, however the plastic cutlery provided was quite flimsy so my advice would be if possible to take your own. I would certainly recommend this place and already have a date pencilled in for my next visit.

What an amazing meal and experience. Our first meal post lockdown and we didn’t know what to expect. It was reassuring to have some hand sanitiser on the wall before entering the building and then to be greeted by a friendly man in a mask who took our temperatures. We were immediately shown to our very clean table. We were surprised by how absolutely spotless and light and airy the restaurant was. The decor is new and fresh. The tables were spaced adequately out. The food was really hot and very fresh - highly recommend the fish pakora. The chef made a tasty vegetable paneer dish to my taste. The waiters all wore masks and were highly attentive. Service was speedy and efficient. Plastic cutlery and napkins were given in individual bags. Payment was behind a Perspex screen away from the dining area. The staff were diligent about the disinfecting of toilets and all surrounding areas including handles. We were really nervous about our first meal out but needn’t have been. It was a super experience and very refreshing to see how the Village have implemented all C-19 measures effectively whilst still providing that excellent service, menu and experience.

On entering the restaurant, we had our temperature checked. We were showed to our table which had been socially distanced, all staff wore face masks and other PPE. My partner & I felt really comfortable despite the current climate of CV19. Even pre packed plastic cutlery. The food was fantastic as per usual. Congratulations guys, keep up the good work

As ever, the food was piping hot and delicious. Brought to the door, promptly and with a smile . Better still The Village offer a 15% discount for NHS workers.I can confidently recommend this restaurant and I'm looking forward to revisiting in the near future as soon as we are allowed

I have been village since it first opened and it is just as good all these years later. The food is mouthwatering and the service atmosphere are great take it from me you will not be disappointed. Had a takeaway delivered tonight from the Village. Beyond impressed. Delivery was quick, food arrived within 30 minutes, piping hot. I got a courtesy call to let me know food was on it's way and to confirm they had the right address. Moving onto the food, I always worry when I get a takeout from a restaurant, the food won't be as good as eating in. Well, not in this case. Tasted exactly the same which was great as we've missed a good curry during lockdown! I had a tikka garlic balti, other half a tikka masala. Naan bread, chapattis. They threw and extra chapatti and popadums for free too. Great customer service, even greater food. Highly recommend, thanks guys!!!

We have visited the restaurant for many years and found the food always fresh and service is excellent.We have had two takeaways in the last month and the takeaway is to such a great standard with your food being ready exactly when they say to arrive.

We've been eating at Village and previously Java Village since we moved to the valley 10 years ago. The food has always been good, with only the odd hiccup over the years. Tonight we treated ourselves during lockdown to a takeaway. The chap on the phone recognised me (when I gave my address) which was a nice friendly touch. Having placed my order I thought we might wait a while due to the lockdown, but it was delivered fast. The delivery driver was wearing a ppe mask and gloves and was as friendly as usual. Whilst unpacking the food, we were delighted to find some extra items had been included for free (a desert, some chips and extra pickles etc). The food was fresh, hot and very tasty. I can highly recommend the chicken karahi. update: We ordered again this week (one week later) as a treat for our wedding anniversary, and the food was just as tasty if not moreso. The service was quick and friendly as previous. Thank you for a great treat. Stay safe.

We ordered yesterday as we haven’t tried village for a long time and we fancied a curry. Well! What a good choice it was. My lamb Karahi was outstanding. Loads of meat and great spices mixed together for a gorgeous dish. My wife ordered the chicken tikka masala and said it was amongst the best she had ever tasted. It was creamy and plentiful. Superb service within an hour and a lovely friendly driver added to the experience. Superb. Thank you.

I hate to say it I really do, but ordered a takeaway as normal but it was not good at all, always order from village and it's a delicious curry house, I understand at the moment it's hard as will be busy on takeaways, but when you spend the money you do, you expect it to be right, couple of items missing, and took 2 hours to come,I'm sorry but just had to write this review as was really disappointed.

I ordered a takeaway and they never sent my starter. When i rung up they said i would get a free starter the next time I ordered. So a few weeks later i rang up and they said it wasnt logged anywhere that i should have a free starter so i said "well cancel my order and i will go elsewhere". I hadnt given them my bank card details at this point. Then 30 minutes later the order turns up and they had taken it upon themselves to use my bank card details from the previous time i ordered. Bare in mind you need to give them the 3 digits on the reverse of your card so they must keep a note of it. I will never order from them again and nor will anyone in my family.

I came to village restaurant with my family for a meal out. It was quite for a friday which was good for us we got served quickly,their service was excellent and friendly. The food was outstanding definitely recommend everyone to go.

I visited the village restaurant today evening with my family. The welcome we received was very polite and was seated with a smile. The waiter called Haider took our order, we wasn't too sure about certain dishes so the waiter helped up out and recommended us a dish. We tried the Chicken Hydrabadi with a Garlic Cheese naan. We haven't had a dish that this delicious in ages and the spices were on point. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to all and a very big thanks to Haider for his great service.

I came to the Village restaurant on a recommendation of a friend. It was my wife’s birthday so I wanted to take her out and make it a special, something she would remember I spoke to the manager and said to him, it was my wife’s birthday I have a cake can you please put this aside and bring it later. We ordered and the food was amazing the service was great and the staff was very friendly, also like making us laugh they really made our night amazing.

I came to the village restaurant with my family for a birthday party. As soon as we walked in the staff was extremely friendly. We sat down and the service was amazing, everything was clean and nicely polished. When we got our food it was perfect,everyone in my family really enjoyed the food and we all agreed it was the best curry we have ever had. Near the end the waiters brought us a cake and all joined in with the happy birthday song.

Really enjoyed our meal at the Village on Valentines Day - even though they were short staffed on that particular night, our waiters were friendly and attentive. My wife been given a single real red rose as we'd finished our meal was a nice touch.

We went to the village restaurant for dinner with friends. We had booked a table in advance and were seated immediately. The tablecloth had some curry stains and on telling the waiter, he just said “it’s just the sauce” and didn’t change our table cloth. The meal itself was tasty and the portions were generous. However, general hygiene was lower than expected standards which takes the gloss away from the food.

I wanted to take my nephews for their first curry so a buffet seemed a good choice to try a range of Indian food. The food was nice. However, the staff seemed really inattentive in terms of checking the buffet. Once food ran out there was no one to top up. Customers had to ask the staff for basics such as rice! At one point a third of all dishes were empty. Most other buffers have staff topping up before dishes ran out. I also had to ask for water three times before going to the bar to get it myself.

Thoroughly enjoyed! Service and food spot on !.Relaxing atmosphere. Believe they are renovating soon.Please don't make it too fancy guys! Only suggestion I would have is to refresh the dishes on the menu!! Keep it up you deserve the credit!

Beautiful food, attentive staff and I got a rose and chocolate after the meal. It’s BYOB but they took our wine and poured it for us. A really lovely valentines meal!

We arrived at Sowerby Bridge for the first time, just to attend a concert and thought of having a bite beforehand. Not knowing anything about the town or it's restaurants, we walked around and The Village restaurant caught our eye.

Went in for the first time on Saturday night as our usual place to eat in Sowerby was fully booked. Was busy but not overly packed out, just nice and not too cramped or noisy, was pleasantly surprised by the fresheners of the food and plenty of it and not rushed at all like some other curry places. Will return for sure

A firm favourite in Sowerby Bridge. Ambience and atmosphere is very good, food great and service exceptional. You can take your own alcohol and there is a buffet on weekdays.

Another fabulous meal, at our favourite Indian restaurant.. forget your Akbar’s and the like, the village is the best around and never fails to impress, the food is amazing the service is outstanding..

Been to The Village a couple of times recently and the food is amazing. You must try the garlic chapatis! Freshly cooked. The vegetarian dishes are very tasty and my family enjoyed their meat dishes.

Been hear loads of times and have never been disappointed so I booked it for my birthday celebration. 8 of us went and it was brilliant. All the food was delicious and served hot. The staff are all very friendly and efficient. They knew it was a double birthday celebration for my self and a friend so brought us a delicious slice of cheesecake complete with giant sparklers. I would definitely recommend it, be it for a cozy meal for 2 or a big celebration and will be going again very soon.

My wife and I been going to the Village for years and ever time the food and service has been awesome. Juwel and the staff makes you feel welcome nothing is a trouble for them. The food is wonderful I've been to many restaurants over the years and not 1 comes close. The restaurant is very clean and the decor is very homely. We took my wife best friend and her boyfriend for the first time tonight they totally loved. You need to find out for yourself I can honestly say you won't be disappointed. Kids and wheel chair user's are very welcome too.

Came here last night with the missis for a meal and from entering the building the staff were there to welcome us and take us to our seats and they were very polite all the way through the food was absolute quality and would recommend for people to go I will defo be going again. All in all very good and defo will recommend to anyone.

I will always choose The Village over any other Indian restaurant in the area. The restaurant has excellent service and the tastiest food by far. The staff are also very knowledgable on vegetarian and vegan dishes and the restaurant accommodates to such a high standard!

Checked online to make sure Monday night buffet was being served for our anniversary meal- had no change to the site so presumed it would be on.

Christmas Day curry. Not dined at the village for some time. Decided to book a different, Christmas meal & booked the village, a table for two , my wife & I. From the moment we arrived, the welcome was fantastic. Food served, efficiently & delicately. The menu was excellent, the food delicious. We even took some home Will definitely be back, before Christmas . Remember it’s BYO, but not let that put you off, we had beer & wine. The staff served what we asked for, as & when we requested. Also excellent value for money. A fantastic culinary experience, highly recommended.

Having had a very enjoyable Christmassy food week with family, we have just had a magnificent take-away from our other ‘family’ at the Village!

Called into the Village for an early evening meal and thought the food is as good as ever

As usual, our small family visited the Village Indian restaurant on Christmas Day.

Really relaxed, homely atmosphere and the best Indian food in Halifax. We’ve been going here for about 20 years! You must go if you’re in the area, not to be missed 😋 Try the puran murgh tandoori.

We arrived never having been before and booked only 2 weeks ago not knowing what to expect. We sat upstairs and was a little worried because it was so busy but the service was excellent we were served popadoms before our starters and with each course we were always asked whether we needed more food. It was brilliant for the money at only £24.99 per head and you could take your own drinks. Well done to the staff who were all excellent and could not do enough for you. Would definitely return.

I have been enjoying Curries 30 years, I have probably just had the best one ever, from these guys. Takeaway order, arrived in 30 mins and was off the scale. Absolutely brilliant

Went with a group of friends and have to say its one of the best dining experiences we’ve had. Tried the restaurants nearby too but village ticked all the boxes for me. Perfect for small group parties and also cater for larger events so will be booking again. 10/10

I went with a group of my friends for the Christmas menu buffet. The food was fantastic, the variety great. The buffet we had was for 4, but there was so much food we asked to take some home (which the staff kindly did for us and boxed it up brilliantly). We had a great evening meal with friends, the food was amazingly delicious, the venue was perfect for us, the service was very good , overall an excellent experience.

Normally get delivery always nice the prawns were a little dry last time but every other time the food is great always hot and tasty and the extra bits are always good best garlic nann ever and staff are always friendly well worth a visit

Went with a large group. Food was really nice. Staff are great. You get a warm welcome. They don’t rush you like another restaurant does a few doors down the road.

If you want a planned or impromptu meal out with family or friends, this is the place for an excellent choice of curries and some English food. The service is always with a smile and the staff are courteous and friendly. We weren’t rushed and so it was nice to be able to sit and chat before, during and after our meal.

We have been here multiple times over the years and have never had a bad meal. If ordering a take away it’s always fresh and hot, if eating in the food is amazing and fresh. The staff are fantastic as is Juwel (apologies if I’ve spent that wrong).

I was an avid fan and regular Syhiba visitor until just over a year ago. The food started to appear as one base sauce with a few extra stuff. I celebrated a big birthday last year and decided to have it at the Village. Great decision. 60 people at an enjoyable evening with superb food and service. I do not even bother with Syhiba now. The village is my ‘go to’ choice.

Takeaway off piste just the way I like even when it’s not on the menu. Their consistency is fantastic, every time I order the taste is exactly the same. It’s the sort of thing you can look forward to and know it won’t be a let down!

Visited on 04/11 and tried the buffet for once. Good choice of both starters and main, all topped up regularly with fresh food. Fabulous and friendly as ever.

Me and my family love this place we usually get the set meal for 4 and are always really happy with it. The staff are very helpful and great with my little boy.

Food a really good staff are friendly.they even treated the grandson to some free ice cream have been several times definitely one of our places for a meal out.

We have been to The Village a couple of times and each time the food had been really lovely. The food is cooked to your personal taste all you need to do is ask.
