Food is ok cheap and cheerful. Service has gone downhill recently. Went for food, tables not cleaned still had the previous people's dirty dishes on, food took ages to arrive after ordering. And plates were not taken away when we had finished, still on the table when we left.

Unless you are a local and know everyone who drinks here, do not go here for a meal... Especially on a Cardiff City match day. We enjoy trying new places to eat out, whether it's a pub or a fancy restaurant, or even a decent takeaway. We had never tried The Village Inn, and living only a few miles away we thought we would give it a try. First off, it's not a great sign when you arrive for food, it's only 6:45pm, and there's already security staff on the door. Never been anywhere for food that has security. As soon as we walked in, we quickly realised that we were the only non-locals in there, and the looks and glares from people made us realise straight away that we weren't welcome... But ya know, I ain't easily intimidated and neither were my friends, so we continued and got seated at a table. Immediately, the locals sat at the next table made us feel unwelcome, staring us out, leaning back on their chairs, bumping the table, talking about us at the top of their voices... Pathetic. But it was bad enough that my wife was ready to start a fight! Anyway, we ordered our food at the bar, locals cutting in ahead of us to order their drinks as if they had more right to be served before us...and then we sat back down, taking in the frosty atmosphere while we waited for our food, which wasn't too long to come out and in all fairness was pretty decent for the prices. Everything was good quality and prepared well. My wife's steak was perfect, and the gammon was really nice... No issues at all! But all the time we were getting stared at, talked about, bumped... And people were being sick around the other side of the bar, heated arguments kicked off, with senior staff joining in and trying to calm things down... But it never really got much better. After finishing our mains, I went up to the bar to order desserts, but that was a struggle because a few worse for wear locals refused to move while I ordered, then refused to move when I tried to tap my card on the reader... So I just leant over them to pay. They didn't like that, but it was tough because I had no choice. And then came the wait for the desserts... Considering we were 4 of maybe 10 people that were eating, the kitchen wasn't exactly busy, but they still forgot to do our desserts, so after 40 minutes we asked where they were and 10 minutes later they were brought out. Again, nice enough desserts, no complaints. By the time we finished, it was getting a bit more lively in there, too lively for the karaoke by the looks of it... They brought in the equipment to set it up, but left with the equipment about 15 minutes later, at which time the kitchen staff were back and forth with jugs of water to clean up the puke that was all over the floor around the other side of the bar. To sum up the evening, staff were friendly and food was good...even if they forgot about our desserts, and I'm sure this place is fine when it's a bit quieter. But if Cardiff City are playing, or have played that day, then avoid. Me and my son are Cardiff City fans, but we are not local to The Village Inn, and this is a place (like many other places in Cardiff) where you don't feel welcome if the local fans don't recognise you. So unfortunately, we won't be going back there, and won't be recommending it either. Especially on a match day.

absolutely amazing grate atmosphere from the moment we stepped in arrived mega early and it wasn't a bother to them food was amazing and the cherry Berry fish bowl was absolutely delicious will definitely see you again soon liv and her team was so welcoming thank you for a lovely valentines evening

Absolutely awful service. I reserved a table for 5:45-7 but due to traffic’s we arrived at 6. Told our table had gone but told (quite bluntly and unprofessionally) that we could have a table but would have to vacant by 7:15 due to another booking. This was ok with us. Ordered food and drinks by 6:10 via table service app. At 6:35 I had to go and ask for our drinks as they had not been delivered. Bar lady arranged for this even though she had no idea what our order was. I also confirmed that they had received our order. Food arrived at 6:50 and how disappointed. I had chicken on a sizzling plate with chips. The peppers were burnt and didn’t taste fresh or even like peppers. Chicken was very thin and so much garlic on it that it made mouth burn and took away taste of the meal. Not a full bowl of chips. Then felt pressured to finish our meal regardless of the slow service. The restaurant was quiet so they can not blame being busy

Great pub for food and also if you love your sports as they have a nice pit area with comfy seats and plenty of room. Can't fault the staff there they go above and beyond to make sure you have a positive experience. We will defo be coming back soon the GM Joey and his team are doing a fantastic job.

As someone who suffers with anxiety. Pubs are not my favourite place. However this place is wonderful. The atmosphere is always amazing and welcoming . Bar staff are lovely , especially Liv who is always friendly and a very good laugh while always keeping it professional and well maintained !

Visited several times previously. On this occasion the food was very average, the service also average even poor. Don't visit this place when there's football on the TV, it's bedlam. You have been warned...

It is more of a restaurant than a pub.service was slow but the meal was well cooked and good value for the money.

The Inn accommodated our party of four on short notice with a wheelchair accessible table. The apple crumble was amazing - we’re coming back just for that dessert! Staff were friendly and attentive. Great selection of foods available at reasonable prices. Thank you.

Table we booked was ready, staff were polite and friendly and food was good. However there was a delay in meals coming out together and not the correct cutlery available. This did not overly affect our enjoyment and will be back again.

Having visited a beefeater the day before, it was an eye opener to visit the village Inn. Apart from the pleasant service, food was brought out much quicker, and the equivalent meal was cheaper, larger, and better cooked. The outdoor seating is close to a busy road but not too noisy most of the time.

Good atmosphere and friendly staff but the food quality is poor. My meal (fahjitas) arrived without half of the advertised accompaniments. My mother in laws food was almost inedible due to the poor cooking meaning some bites were extremely spicy and others bland. Would happily come back for a drink but would avoid the food.

I was so disappointed, as I ordered the Belly Pork from the menu, but was given 2 slim slices of gammon that had been cooked to within an inch of its life!!...it was badly burnt, especially around the edges, where it was black, and scraped off like charcoal...it was inedible....I didn't send it back as I was completely put off eating ANYTHING there....we left and bought a Chinese takeaway, which was delicious!! Restaurant food isn't cheap so it is a complete rip off!!...I will never recommend The Village Pentwyn

Really lovely visit tonight with the family. Have not been here for a good few years (even though I live just round the corner!). Food was great, basic pub food done well. Staff were lovely, especially Olivia who was very friendly and attentive. We will definitely be coming back soon!

First time I visited this place with my mates and it’s definitely not gonna be the last! The food was cheap and delicious, drinks were cheap, great and came quickly! The staff were friendly and helpful, the atmosphere felt lively and relaxing as wellThe only downside is have to say is the time it took for the food to come- my friends and I waited for a good 30+ minutes for our food and desserts to come

Had a fab visit to the Village Inn on a very hot Friday evening. Despite the Covid rules still ongoing in Wales and the baking heat, the staff worked tirelessly to try and keep us and the other customers fed and watered. A special mention to Ellie who brought most of our drinks over and who could not do enough despite being under massive pressure from the demand.

The staff at this pub are absolute super women!! Such a busy night, table service and a smile all of the time.A special mention to Ellie (the girl with bright orange nails) who helped us navigate the app and was so delightful. Thank you Village Inn. We will be back for sure xxx

Went for a family meal, bit apprehensive after reading the very mixed reviews but have to say the service was exceptional- 10/10 for Danielle and also the food was lovely. Will be visiting again

We booked a table for food and drinks, as well as the football. The lady who checked us in gave us an option of tables and was very friendly and welcoming. The same lady came and alerted us to the fact that another table was available, closer to the screens and moved us. Throughout our visit, the staff were lovely, friendly and welcoming (including the door staff) even when the app broke! This one lady made our experience fantastic, we wish we knew her name! She had a brunette, long ponytail and was wearing black. Thank you for good food, drinks and experience. Well done.

We had a mixed grill and it was lovely. There was nowhere in the app to state I wanted a runny egg but I told one of the bar tenders. I wasn’t expecting this to be passed onto the chef but it was and the whole meal was truly delightful Thank you for a lovely evening

We went for the loaded steak and classic mixed grill… steaks cooked to perfection…skillets sizzling - top marks for the chefs. Young barman/waiter was a delight and really made our evening.

After being part of a funeral on 18th May, 2 friends & I visited the pub for lunch.We all drove in separate cars & met there.The 'covid experience' was well managed & the table service was good.To my HORROR I have received a PARKING TICKET for taking my custom and £'s there!!A request to pay £85!!!! Not only did I park in the the correct space (being disabled) and using my blue badge correctly complying with' normal' public house car parking regulations. I never assumed for 1 minute that I would have to pay to spend my money in there so didn't even think to look for parking notices.??? Neither of my friends dining there with me received a parking ticket thankfully!! I would appreciate a swift a quick response from the manager to help me resolve this shocking dilemma please. Such a shame because the rest of the dining experience was satisfactory.

Just popped in for a quiet pint in the sun, can't book a table on line and the phone was engaged. The pub is only 1mile from my house, so decided to pop in. Loads of tables available with nobody sitting there. Jobs worth security said no room. What a joke this pub is...

This pub is awful. Used to be a brilliant pub, atmosphere was amazing in the past. Dont know what's happened people arguing in car park on a thursday afternoon. Totally covid unsafe. There was a guy walking around with a mask on his head and the staff found it funny, not asking him to put over his face while went inside to use the restroom, a white powdery substance god know what it was (we all do) on the back of the toilet. On the plus side. Found a rolled jo fiver.

Glad to be back eating in a PUB! Their covid Regulations make it a safe environment. We had steaks, ordered off the app. Service was understandablysower than normal but a perfect excuse to have another glass of wine!My well done steak was cooked to perfection and the onions underneath on the sizzling plate was delicious. We will be back to try the rest of their fantastic menu!

Filete de rabadilla (y patatas fritas 1/2 tomate y lechuga) 20 ¡Tienes que estar bromeando! ¡Era más como un bistec de un minuto para una baguette! curry estaba bien, pero los popadoms secos pidieron 1/2 y 1/2 sin posibilidad de que todos fueran del tamaño de una porción? realmente muy pobre.

Tuvimos una comida el 30 de septiembre, la comida estuvo muy buena Lo disfrutamos tanto que decidimos volver el 7 de octubre, pero era como si lo hubiera cocinado otra persona, dos de los filetes tenían un sabor extraño carbón y no pusieron el hongo en el plato y también la salsa Diane vino 10 minutos después también sirvieron las comidas mientras dos de nosotros todavía estábamos comiendo nuestro entrante Espero que la próxima vez que vayamos sea como la primera vez

Estoy tan contenta de haberlo hecho, pedimos la clásica parrillada mixta, llegó rápidamente y estaba cocinada a la perfección.No habíamos reservado, pero el personal fue servicial y nos encontró una mesa.Definitivamente recomendaría este lugar

Habiendo abierto después del cierre, cree que habrían hecho todo lo posible para hacerlo bien, primero no pudo encontrar nuestra reserva, pero eso se resolvió, ordenó comida y eso tardó más de una hora en llegar, cuando lo hizo fue se secaron, las papas fritas eran filetes no comestibles cocidos en exceso, las salsas estaban hechas con una mezcla de paquetes, salsa hecha con gránulos de salsa, desperdiciamos más de lo que comimos, el servicio lo poco que teníamos fue caótico, ciertamente no querría experimentar eso nuevamente

Muy molesto porque quitaron la tetera, los vasos y las tazas. Tuve que encontrar mis propias bolsitas de té y leche UHT y luego tomar una taza de agua caliente de Starbucks (gratis). Se unió al club Revolution, así que afortunadamente obtuve estacionamiento gratuito (más 5 al día). El wifi gratuito era bastante lento, así que usé 4 G. De lo contrario, fue una buena estadía (una vez que logré que se mudaran de la habitación con una ventana pequeña sin vistas, lo que la hacía más oscura de lo habitual).

We stopped at this place as it seemed convenient to have some food at 7.00 pm on a Sunday evening. We asked if they were still doing food at this time? Yes, came the answer. So, we sat down and decided what we wanted from the standard pub-type menu. On attempting to place the order, a staff member said they did not have those items available. So, she was asked what they do in fact have available. We were informed that the only hot food was a 'chicken dinner'. We were not tempted by the idea of the chicken dinner and left slightly bemused about the idea of a menu containing a single hot food item. Well, there's a first time for everything, I suppose.

My husband and friend visited yesterday for a quick drink and were completely ignored by the bar staff, they kept in serving people before them and wouldn’t even acknowledge they were there. Will not be visiting with the family which is disappointing as it’s so close to us.

We were in the area with an hour to kill so thought we'd get a bite to eat. This looks like a million other chain pubs which serve food. The menu covers most tastes and it's reasonably priced and edible. Those are the positives. This place is grim. The staff are only half concentrating on taking orders and it felt like I was interrupting some important staring into space. The bar area was cluttered and tables were left uncleared for the whole time we were there. Not somewhere I'll be rushing back to.

Realizamos celebraciones conjuntas de los 80 y 30 cumpleaños y del 55 aniversario de bodas en The Village este fin de semana. Personal súper servicial y propietario, no me puedo quejar. Todos pasaron un momento encantador. Un par de nosotros que no tenían resaca regresaron y tuvieron un desayuno encantador la mañana siguiente, realmente sabroso y con una muy buena relación calidad-precio. ¡Muchas gracias a Joey, Freya y al equipo por ayudarnos a hacer de nuestras celebraciones especiales un gran éxito!

Visited this pub with my girlfriend for a quick meal and thoroughly enjoyed our experience. Food came out pipping hot and was lovely (and a great price). We were served by Livy, who was extremely helpful and very welcoming. Would definitely visit again.

We stopped going there years ago because the food was so bad. But thought we would give it another go. We went on Sunday for a Sunday lunch but they didn't have any, even thought they are advertising it. My husband said it was the worst burger he had ever had that cost £10 odd. I had the Shepherd's pie for £7.25 with just peas and gravy. It was all mash and looked disgusting and the dish was only half full? We were told that they buy it in and they have lots of complaint's about it. So why are they still selling it? Never worth the money they are charging.WE WILL NEVER GO THERE AGAIN!!!

Our group on 16 really enjoyed good quality food and service here for a birthday celebration. We were especially pleased with how kind and helpful Livvy was. She went above and beyond. Thank you.

Shocking. Hostile reception immediately. Horrible young woman who simply chose to ignore me at every interaction. 45 min wait for appalling food. Look at the photo. Nothing like the photo on the menu. Congealed, meat free and just thick heavy pastry. Horrible people. Avoid avoid.

Absolute shocking is the only way to describe this place. Food is the worst I’ve ever had, sloppy, 5 chips on my plate. Dirty place, bar staff also shocking was given a wine in a pint glass. Would never attend here again.

Thought we would pop by for dinner, there was a deal on a Sunday... what a waste as we now have to pay an £85 fine for parking IN YOUR CARPARK! Service slow, food average, we thought prices were good but oh no, as we now have an £85 fine on top of our meal!!!! And we parked in your car park! Disgusting!!

Staying at a nearby hotel we, a mature couple, decided to try this pub and it poverty to be a good decision. The food is tasty and inexpensive. Our table WS somewhat messy and we asked for it to be cleaned and this was done almos immediately. The only downside was the lack of choice of real ales. Well worth a visit.

Great location with plenty of parking and open space. Plenty of tv screens to watch sport and a large seating area to have food.

I recently visited this establishment and the staff and manager cleared up a misunderstanding over a parking ticket straight away. Brilliant service.

Stopped cooking breakfast at 11.30 instead of advertised 12.00 as menu states but able could cook all day breakfast for £7 (£3 more each), landlord then sent message to me saying chef had to prep for lunch which is a lie because if he had to prep for lunch how could he cook offered all day breakfast, left and went to Wetherspoons, i suggest you do same

Wife and I were stopping over at nearby hotel following an appointment at the local hospital. We could have dined at the hotel but our previous experience of the Sizzling pubs near our home was good so we thought we would try the Village Inn. Having read reviews indicating that it was a very popular venue I did reserve a table on their very accessible on line booking system, so reserved a table for 8.15. We turned up at 8 pm, tired and hungry, and as we were a little early we ordered and paid for a drink at the bar before announcing that we had reserved a table for later. That was our big mistake. We were abruptly told that the kitchen had closed early. Foolishly we argued our case and were placed on a table next to two large rowdy groups, the restaurant being otherwise almost empty. We were told to order food without delay. It was by now too late to return to the hotel's restaurant, so we quickly order some easy to cook meals , scampi and chicken, as we didn't know of any other nearby diner. We waited an hour for food which we assumed was by now being cooked by bar staff as we had been told that the chef had gone. Several times we nearly walked out but having paid we thought we'd stick it out. We did, just as we stuck to the sticky table. Food came eventually, my scampi being edible but my wife didn't touch much of her chicken. We beat a hasty retreat , staff took no notice whatsoever. We felt as elated as if we had just been released from jail. Good luck to anyone who ventures inside this place.

I met my friend here for a lunch , lovely and spacious pub we sat near the open doors looking out onto the patio area which on a lovely hot sunny day was fab. Food ordered at the bar , starters and a main , service good and food was plentiful for the price paid . Help yourself to cutlery and condiments. Moved outside later to enjoy another drink in the sun. Parking eye in the car park so make sure you enter your reg number on a machine inside the establishment. Would revisit .

The first 2 times were good, 4 stars but the 3rd time, was told half hour wait which is fair as was busy, waited 1 hour 15 mins, no apology or reason. after 1 hour the pub was looking pretty empty. Food was average but even with wait felt rush, oninons and chicken undercooked. Just hope the usual chef was on holiday. Undecided if i would return.

My husband and I had a fantastic meal here, although it was busy we were advised the food could take up to 30 minutes. We were more than happy to have a drink whilst we waited as a great atmosphere and very good bar staff. Our meal arrived in under the 30 minutes, piping hot and well presented. We enjoyed it so much we had to personally thank the chef who was a very polite young man called Tom. We told him how delicious the food was and how perfectly our steaks were cooked to which he thanked us for our compliments. Will definitely return here and hope that Tom will cook for us again. Highly recommended

Just had a ticket after meeting up with friend for drink in the pub. No idea you need a ticket and nothing in bar area to remind you. Will never visit this place again so 85 quid will soon be wiped out in lost custom.

We went here a number of times while staying in the nearby Premier Inn. The food is good, atmosphere was fine (they were quite busy) and some great deals including two meals for just £9!

Tuvimos una excelente comida, la comida era deliciosa y no puedo agradecerle lo suficiente a la camarera Katie y al chef. Mi madre tiene alergias muy graves y, lamentablemente, no hay muchos lugares que las tomen tan en serio como deberían. Estos dos revisaron todos los ingredientes y limpiaron la cocina antes. No puedo criticarlo. ¡Gracias chicos!

Vine aquí con mi esposa para tomar un trago rápido y encontré el pub muy animado con un buen ambiente. Los precios eran razonables y el menú parecía bastante barato con descuentos para los jubilados. Vine un viernes y se estaban preparando para lo que parecía un karaoke. Vale la pena una visita.
