This pub has numerous good points, but........ Staff who don't always know the catering hours. We called in advance and were told, yes, we're serving food and there are free tables. When we arrived 15 mins later "Sorry, the kitchen is closed"! On a different night, we ordered from the full and interesting menu; after a long wait, "Sorry , we have no chicken". We had to re-order and more than an hour later our food started to arrive. No explanation for the delay! Sorry guys, a lukewarm review. You've a good place, but you do need to do a bit more for your dedicated public.

First time visitors for a birthday meal straight from work. Was very impressed, at first glance the menu looks like your usual pub chain fare but it was darn from average. The food was high quality, perfectly cooked generous portions. Amazing value for money. We couldn't fault it. The pub had a friendly, relaxed atmosphere and a spacious garden that we all (dog included) thoroughly enjoyed. Will definitely be back.

Myself and two colleagues return to the Vic every year when our work takes us close by. We even search hotels based on a getting a few cosy nights at what we all very fondly rate as a "great little boozer". Last year we were late arriving and phoned to check we'd beat the kitchen deadline. The staff went out of their way to make sure we were fed before bedtime. We'll be back. A particular favourite element is the cute sunken bar in the middle of the pub. Terrific.

Second visit to this pub. Brought our dog with us after afternoon stroll. Sat at table with dog on lead sat underneath. We were asked to move as the marea is a "no dogs area" due to kitchen being close by. Fair enough. Returned last weekend to find someone else sitting where we did, with their dog, and not a word said to them. They must be regulars! Then 2 other dogs strolling around, no leads on. One actually went into the kitchen, and strolled by people trying to eat. Felt this was double standards and unhygienic as well

We had a fabulous time at New Year's Eve. We knew we were getting a live band and a buffet and frankly for £15 that was a pretty good deal, given the cost of lots of other options more locally to us. The music was great - a good range of songs, well planned and with a good set of anthems and general dancing music. We've heard local bands before but the equipment that this band was using was superb: I've never before seen a guitarist with a wifi loop that meant that he could come round the pub and still play, and the balance of sound was excellent. I'd brought ear plugs with me because I thought it might be too noisy (had had that on a previous visit) but didn't need to use them and came away singing and without my ears ringing. Lots of people were there having a really good time, LOADS of dancing, and people in fancy dress. The buffet wasn't too carb based at all - there were three different main courses (a chilli, a sweet and sour and a veggie pasta and spinach) plus rice and poppadums. As I'm dieting, I was delighted to be able to have rice and sweet and sour. Would definitely come again, and would have the courage to dress up next time!

We booked for an 80th Birthday Sunday Lunch for 13 people. Despite booking 3 weeks in advance they where completely unprepared for us. They were unable to offer enough starters (not even the soup of the day - leek and potato - Please!!). So we abandoned any thought of starters. We then waited in excess of an hour and a half for the roast Sunday dinners we ordered. When it finally arrived it contained very little meat, most of which was fatty and inedible cold carrots and dry roast potatoes. Not a parsnip in sight! We asked about desserts but they had nothing to offer us. A birthday celebration was completely ruined. Needless to say they felt unable to charge us of this complete fiasco, but that does not make up for a birthday celebration completely ruined. It was the worst dining experience I have ever had!!

Went for a quick lunch with family, all ordered different dishes bar two of us, who had the lamb burger special. Lamb burger itself was ok, but previously frozen bun not great. The sweet potato fries with it came out very dark, soggy, and slightly undercooked. The tzatziki that accompanied it was clearly off - it had bubbles through it and tasted rather fizzy! Service was poor and the servers seemed like they wanted to be anywhere else but there. Overall, poor food, poor servers, but a lovely little pub that could be great!

We moved to the area last summer but only came across The Victoria Arms last Sunday! Everything you'd expect of a traditional, village pub and more. Friendly staff, excellent Sunday roast and a lovely atmosphere. We'll enjoy the gardens whilst we can and will look forward to cosy nights in front of the open fires, later in the year.

We (my 2 daughters and I) were looking for a lovely Sunday Roast and had already been to 2 other local pubs which had no room. Luckily, we just squeezed in to the Victoria Arms! Or not so lucky as it turned out! We ordered 3 Sunday roasts and 3 J20's at the bar. I nearly had a heart attack when the barmaid told me it came to almost £50! However, by this time we were starving so I just paid and hoped it would be worth it. We waited quite a while for the food but as they were quite busy, we expected it to be fairly slow. When our food came out it looked quite nice. Unfortunately the taste did not match up! The food was stone cold! The meat was chewy and the potatoes were tasteless. We were so hungry, we just ate it anyway. When the waitress came to clear our plates, she asked if everything was ok. I said "not really!" and she just said "oh" and walked away.A lesson learned the hard way, we will certainly not be going to this pub to eat again. It's a shame as we did have quite a nice meal in here a couple of years ago for my dad's birthday. It's definitely gone right downhill in my opinion! Maybe the chef was having a bad day but we felt very ripped off and very disappointed.

Welcoming staff greet you, folliwed by excellent service. Had sunday lunch, we all chose the roast options, although really good choice on the menu. The food was freshly cooked and good quality. Puddings were equally good, although lack of custard was not good!

This is a local pub for us, which is always busy. However my wife, myself and our Daughter decided to take advantage of the 'Burger Night' tonight. My wife and Daughter decided on the 'Southern Fried' chicken burger ( which y wife said tasted more like the 'Cajun Burger' that was on the menu). I was undecided but thought about having the 'Chilli Burger' as long as it meant there was a separate portion of Chilli on top. My Daughter asked the person behind the bar if the Burger came with Chilli on top of the Burger and she was told it did, so I ordered one of these. Whenever the Burger arrived there was no Chilli on top and it was a 'Chilli type' Burger. I thought OK, I can live with that, but when I started eating the Burger it was gull of fat and gristle, which was totally inedible, I ate what I could eventually leaving about half of it. When the waitress came to clear our table she asked if everything was OK and I told her that the Burger was horrible and full of fat. She said she would tell e chef. When she retuned she told me the Chef said he was sorry and walked away. Nothing else was said. We finished our drinks, paid the full bill and left. This was one of the worse burgers I have ever had and certainly won't be recommending it to anyone. It was a shame because it is a pub my family and I often use, but we will think twice before ordering food again. I would say to anyone not to order a Chilli Burger as it is a complete waste of money, and the Management was completely not worried about it.
