Cracking service and cracking food. Dog friendly.

Meal was very disappointing. We went last night for our sons 21st, the food was not nice. Steak was cooked fine, chips were skinny frozen chips, no mushrooms, onion rings were thick and oily and the taste of oil of them were horrible. Compared to the last time we were there a few months ago this time was just awful and the meal was not worth the money we spent.

Had a great night here, steaks were amazing. Consistently good (was here in July also) and friendly service.

Not the most exciting looking place from the outside but when you get it it's comfortable and clean, staff friendly too! We had a mixture of dishes off the menu and they all felt freshly prepared with some competence in the kitchen (i.e. not reheated). The prices were not cheap, but they didn't feel unreasonable either.

Very good food, nice staff. Prices are a little bit high. But the quality is worth it.

Haddock and posh chips was simple but superb, beautiful white fish and posh chips had a lovely crisp texture to them. Very tasty. 😋

My pasta was very spicy and tasteless. I do not recommend this restaurant.

The food was really delicious and the staff was very friendly. The prices were very good for what we got and there was a lot of choice, also from different kinds of seafood. We also got our food pretty quickly.

The food was really tasty, but not worth the price we paid. That said, the kids mac n cheese was a bargain!The lady serving us was super friendly and accommodating with our young boys.

Overall a great restaurant. We booked this for when we returned on the ferry from Orkney. The service was overall good. They were busy so it took a little longer, but not a big deal. Food was good. Fish and chips were pretty good, overall good value. My wife has the mussels which were also good. I did notice ALOT of people around us were ordering the steak. I didn’t get it, but I looked really good.

Very tasty, nice staff, mussels with very tasty sauce, fish and chips very good. The desserts such as cheesecake or hot chocolate fudge are recommended.

Had an amazing meal here, food was just cooked to perfection. Prawns to start, steak for main and shared 2 desserts (but had to take a doggy bag home) staff was lovely, wasn't busy only problem was it wasn't busy but we were all put on tables next to each other just wasn't private conversations to have when there. But will return again soon.

Really good value, fresh and delicious food and really big portions! Service was a bit slow - perhaps they’re too popular for their own good!

Situated right opposite the port, the Upper Deck has got a menu full of delicious seafood meals, everything from salmon to mussels. Not cheap, but it's definitely worth it! Also, the great view from the big windows enhances the appetite, and staff are extremely friendly and helpful, they'll even pack up your and your family's breakfast to take away.

The restaurant for the Ferry Inn. Our server was great! She was attentive and friendly and really up-beat. Food was delicious and lots of good sounding dishes to pick from. Nice setting too, by the large windows although there isn't much to view apart from the ferry's.

Friendly staff, lovely and delicious food - with a good portion, and a very reasonable price. We had mussels which were very juicy and with a hint of sea water - I regard this as freshness. The fish and chips was big!

Just had some dinner here before my 7pm ferry over to Orkney. Food was fabulous (i had the beef burger) and staff were friendly.

We went here recently and we'll exceeded our expectations. Looks are deceiving from the outside, though nice decor inside and superb food quality to match. We had the salmon, and crab + prawn linguine. Both were amazing! I'd highly recommend. Slightly light on seafood choices though still a pretty expansive menu.

Amazing food and really friendly staff, we were staying in thurso for 13 nights, on the second night we came across the upper deck and went back for 10 consecutive nights!!, thats how good it was, wide variety of food available, i personally recommend the fillet steak, truly cooked to perfection every time, made my work trip that more enjoyable...

The food was lovely and quite well priced for such quality. The decor and atmosphere was lovely. Linda was my server and she was excellent.

The place looks amazing on the inside and the food are good too at the right price. Only let down by the lack of seafood choice on the manu even though it is by the harbour. However I do still recommend as the staff are friendly and very wellcoming even though we have dogs with us!

Went here twice. Food amazing. The staff member who served us on the Wednesday lunchtime couldn't have been nicer, nothing was too much trouble. The young girl who served us on Friday evening wasn't quite as welcoming. She was polite enough but sounded bored and sighed everyone she asked if we wanted anything. It was towards the end of her shift but no excuse when you are in a customer facing role. Other than that though would highly recommend.

Birthday meal for my fiances dad ,lovely food, slight mix up on cooking of the steak but overall was lovely and our waitress was really nice and helpful 😚

I first visited the Upper Deck over 50 years ago when I lived in Thurso. It was a treat in the 1960s and was equally so this evening. Seats at the window are a must if you have any interest in a working harbour. The service was excellent, friendly and attentive throughout our visit. We both chose seafood starters and mains. All of our food was top quality, freshly prepared and relatively inexpensive. Thank you for a lovely, nostalgic evening.

We were very happy indeed with our visit to the Upper Deck. Three courses of excellent food, fairly priced. All served with energy and good humour and great views of the busy harbour. Recomnended.

I used to go on mission quite often to the Dounreay nuclear facilities in the early 80 's and never missed the opportunity to have one of the gorgeous steaks in that restaurant, the best I can remember. Of course, that was 35 years ago, when the area was still absolutely tourist-free.NB. As mentioned, it was not January 2020 as stipulated below, but in the late 80's

Now I used to visit this restaurant regularly in 1982, 83 and 1984 when I lived in Thurso. Back then it’s was the best place to go for a legendary succulent steak. Can’t comment on what it’s like now. So I guess it’s time to get my touring shoes on and see what it’s like these days.

Very quiet as it was a wet evening! Service was excellent, as was our food, especially my steak. Bit of a strange entrance up outside steps. Good view across the harbour. Great value,

For perfectly cooked fillet steak, you can't do much better than the Upper Deck. The service was friendly, the wine (apparently) excellent and the steaks perfectly cooked.

Overlooks the harbour. Good pub food. The steak was excellent. Staff very friendly. Would certainly go again.

We both opted for a fish dish and weren’t disappointed. The monk fish Thermidor was particularly good. Very busy place with very friendly staff plus very good value.

Food was quite good , we had the scallops and black pudding for starters, very simple, served with balsamic glaze, huge serving of the prawn salad ( prawns here are what we call shrimps back home) the halibut was very well cooked, a generous sized Prawn aioli pasta !

We have eaten here twice and both times have left disappointed. The steaks are overpriced and the menu now is so limited. My family are from the local area and do not recommend this place. Which is a real shame as it could be really good. Staff were good. Just expected more of a seafood choice being that we are opposite Scrabster fishing docks.

The food was very good. Not sure if the sirloin steak was value for money but it and the breaded haddock were good eating

Excellent food, excellent service. Fish and Chips were the best by far in the local area. Would thoroughly recommend this to anyone. Only downside is the restaurant is upstairs with no lift so not great for disabled people that can't climb a lot of wooden stairs outside.

We’ve been here many times and keep coming back because we always enjoy it, but last night was a bit disappointing. We were a party of 5, and we all went for fish as our main course. The fishcakes were bland and the dressing on the salad scarce. The fish & chips was OK and the smoked haddock with poached eggs was fine, but too much gravy and mash. The prawn cocktail had way too much sauce, but the cullen skink was tasty. Service is always pretty good and the view is great!

We stayed in the ferry inn and both our dinner and breakfast was faultless. Big size portions for the price, Food was amazing couldn't get any fresher. Breakfast came with the hotel price unlike other hotels we stayed in the breakfast choice was a set menu. We couldn't decide what we wanted as there was such a good choice and portion sizing was decent and faultless again. Will be back in a few months when we are in the area again.

When my wife and I arrived hear on a very cold and miserable evening we were looking for comforting food. We decided on the cream of onion soup home made. It was absolutely delicious. Followed by fish and chips which was like a whale on a plate, also delicious. Will definitely return to this restaurant.

Was staying in the Ferry Inn and decided to eat in their restaurant. Turned out to be a very good choice. Nice surroundings and window overlooking the harbour. Choice of food was superb as was the cooking and presentation. Service was top drawer and would highly recommend.

We had dinner here as we were staying at the ferry inn next door. The food is excellent, very tasty and brilliantly presented, and the service is also very good, however the prices are rather expensive. I had the tournedos rossini, which cost £27.50 alone, and I did not finish my meal feeling like they were worth that price.

My husband and I had dinner here. It was good, but nothing spectacular. Which I would have expected for the price. I might go back, but I'd try some other places first.

I had a voucher which I explained we hadn’t used as I had wanted to use it with my friend and her hubby once she was over chemo. The voucher was 5 months out of date £80 .....a lot of money! Outright no from manager, not even an offer to accept half of it. So that’s £80 pocketed for Upper Deck. Never mind a customer lost for good and I will make sure all my friends know as well.

We went for a meal at the weekend,my wife had fillet steak and I had sirloin steak which was cooked to perfection,we both had a sweet which we could not fault,it was delicious,staff were friendly and service was excellent, will most certainly be back.

After hearing mixed reviews recently, we decided to try The Upper Deck for the first time in years, and can I say all 4 of us were not disappointed, Excellent home-made Pate, and The sirloin must have been the best I've ever eaten, and I don't use that term loosely. The vegetables however were not the best, roast Vegetables would be much nicer, Will definitely return.

Very dissapointed in the meal here recently. The photos show steak with battered onion rings, mushrooms and veg. but when our steaks arrived there was none of this. No onions at all and if you wanted mushrooms or veg. you had to pay extra! Instead was a piece of garlic bread on the side? This would have been apropriate for a pasta dish not steak. Will not visit again.

We waited over an hour for service and left without any food. Awful place and bad service. There were five in our party and we were not the only ones left just sitting waiting for our orders

Me and my husband went here for our anniversary dinner. We both had fillet steak, both cooked perfectly. Their handmade crispy onions are a delicious accompanying side for steak, meal was fantastic as usual only thing I would say let’s it down is would love homemade chips rather than frozen chips.

Scallop starter and the fish of the main were good, pork medallions dry and vegetables uninspiring. Service was good. All in all a bit disappointing.

My wife and I visited here on a Monday evening for dinner. It was a pretty miserable experience apart from the service where the waitresses were really friendly and tried to be exceptionally helpful.

The restsurant looks recently refurbished and has an upstairs view over the harbour and bay where we could see the ferry arrive snd depart again for Orkney.

What a huge disappointment, ask fod a rare steak and it was more like medium, we got a heap of onion rings which was just a big pile of greasy yuck. Really expensive. Much better places to eat in Caithness.

Wonderful food and service. Great selection and well cooked. The breakfast menu was really good with great choices and the food delicious.

Good food, not cheap though and service was rather slow despite several staff. But in fairness it was Fathers day evening,,,,,, but it wast full.

Booked in here expecting perhaps a bit too much, having been told that it was probably the best restaurant around. Perhaps because it was mid-week and November and therefore probably in a quiet period, but several of the options were off and what did come was OK. The sizes perhaps need looking at - the prawn salad starter was virtually the same size as the main course and for the deep fried fish - is there a need for 2 fillets? Overall it was OK but I was told by work colleagues that it is better at the weekend. Perhaps just an off night.

I visited the Upper Deck whilst staying in the area and after hearing about the good steaks from work colleagues. The restaurant is nicely furnished with modern, dark furniture and fairy-light-festooned branches, as seems to be the fashion these days. I had leek and potato soup to start, which was a hearty bowl of hot and peppery soup. I prefer my leek and tattie soup blended with some cream, but this was nice enough.

Staff were friendly and welcoming. Great local knowledge feedback from staff. Food was outstanding and fresh. Restaurant was spotless and lovely views of the harbour. Good Scottish fare on offer. Local seafood served. A must visit when visiting the area or perfect spot for onward journeys to the other Scottish islands further afield. The rolo cheesecake is to die for. 10 out of 10

Siamo arrivati al ristorante, ci hanno fatto accomodare. Abbiamo ordinato un antipasto misto di pesce, un salmone e un piatto di gamberi, prima di ordinare quest'ultimo piatto, abbiamo chiesto al cameriere se fossero gamberi freschi. È arrivato un antipasto scarso, visto il costo, ed in più il cibo non era fresco. Quando è arrivato il secondo siamo rabbrividiti. Il piatto col salmone era abbastanza buono, ma il piatto con i gamberi, che in realtà erano i gamberetti precotti da cocktail, era quasi immangiabile. Era accompagnato da un uovo sodo e da del cavolo affettato immerso in una salsa terribile. Ma quello che proprio non ci è andato giù è stato il conto! Uno dei più salati in Scozia, per la peggiore Delle cene. Sconsigliatissimo!

Came here believing the sea food would be good and fresh being so close to the shore. But got very disappointed by the sea food of the starter seafood platter and the sea bass main course. Neother tasted freshly caught and the sea bass was contaminated by a taste of steak.Service was ok. Prices were too high.

We went to the Upper Deck for the Sunday roast,the roast beef was good,sweets we ordered came but no spoons table beside us had soup they asked for their rolls to be told their still baking,they had finished there soup then came the rolls. WHY CANT THEY TRAIN THEIR STAFF..

Fantastic restaurant attached to the Ferry Inn hotel. A lovely starter of creamy garlic mushrooms with large croutons - delish!!! Beautifully plated delicious chicken stuffed with black pudding in a whisky sauce and anyone with a sweet tooth has to try the individual banoffee tarts - yummy.However if you are there for breakfast the full Scottish is a must - biggest breakfast plate ever!!! You will not leave there hungry and it is very affordable. Top marks to the chef and the wait staff

Been going here for years and it must be said that you won't get a better steak for miles around; they're famous for them. However if you're tempted from the straight and narrow be prepared for disappointment. Mains are always good but some starters (like the smoked mussels) I have found questionable. Desserts are fine but do yourself a favour and order a piece of the chef's tablet (fudge to you English people) with a coffee.Service is always friendly. Scrabster harbour has evolved over the years and may now be seen as over-industrialised but has always provided an interesting view from the restaurant. Grab window seats if you can.4* for a steak eater, other wise 3*

We have heard a lot of good things about this restaurant so decided to give it a go . Its expensive for steaks but they are very good, unfortunately that's were things stop . Frozen chips . frozen onion rings ! Really ? you certainly have got things wrong ,charging £23.00 for a steak , homemade chips and onion rings would be fitting . To repeat home made , not bought in ! and passed over as homemade . You really thing that your customers are rather daft , although maybe that's true if they think its worth the money .. Wont be back .

Brilliant food. Came for dinner as a group of four, we each ordered steaks. Not only was I served THE best steak I've ever eaten it was also one of the best meals I've ever eaten. Good service too, will definitely be back.

Had a wonderful dining experience at this place, great location right on the Port. Steaks were cut really well, would totally recommend the Sirloin. A bit on the expensive side, and the staff could slightly more attentive however, the food was excellent.

A visit to this restaurant is a must! After hearing about the famous steaks from my partner who visited years ago when formally 'Popeyes' we had to return to see if this was still the case... We were not disappointed! I emailed Fiona the general manager in the morning and she very promptly replied to say she would be able to accommodate our late table booking. The food was delicious!! Highly recommended are the scallops starter or seafood platter if you would like to sample a little bit of all the fresh local seafood available! Followed by a whopper of a fillet steak & sirloin cooked to perfection! Friendly young waiter served us. A very busy restaurant & service was quick. A great experience! We will be back :)

We had a lovely dinner here on a Thursday evening and it was very busy. The food was very good and most of us had seafood. The fish was really fresh and well cooked and the portions were very generous. Prices were very reasonable as well. The service was very good considering how busy the place was.

Went to this restaurant for a family celebration. Have done so quite a few times before. usually it is really good but this time it was poor. Waiter came back shutout all our drinks, had to ask twice for one, didn't apologise, took our order, they had run of chicken pakora for a starter, our starters came were nice as expected, came quite quickly. Main courses were ok, but just Ok. Waiter came and asked to clear the plates before one of our party was finished. Desert had no cheesecake and no-one came to offer us tea or coffee we had to ask for bill. Food Ok but not usual standard, service really poor.

We both had a 3 course meal although shared the first which was Cullen Skink soup as it's a hearty meal by itself. If you are a visitor and wonders what Cullen slink is then you are in for a treat. It's a thick fish, potato, leek and cream soup . The steaks are very tasty and well cooked. Plenty of food and at good value. The waitresses are all very friendly and efficient.You also have a good view of the harbour

Nice food although over priced in my opinion. Service was ok but could be more attentive. Decoration was badly dated, felt like I had walked on to the set of a 1980s sitcom. Would go back if the pricing policy was reconsidered.

To the Upper Deck in Scrabster for family supper. Smoked mussels and bacon strongly recommended ( not subtle, but delicious), rare fillet steak perfect. Perfectly drinkable Chilean Cabernet Sauvignon for £17.00 a bottle, lovely views over the ( fairly industrial) harbour as the evening faded, and very pleasant and helpful staff. Minor downside ( as someone with IBS and no tolerance for garlic or balsamic vinegar) no olive oil ( at all - fairly astonishing for any restaurant) though an abundance of ( Hellman's I think) mayonnaise. Overall a pleasant but not sophisticated meal. If you are in Thurso or Scrabster ( and the excellent Captain's Cabin is closed or fully booked) Go to the Upper Deck for very good steak and the lights coming on over the harbour, but don't count on olive oil :-)
