Nice carvery had today. Generous meat portions compared to a more generic carvery brand i could mention. :)

A proper pub serving very good food, I had a delicious and substantial Sunday roast. Pub is comfortable and nice atmosphere. The lady serving was very helpful to my partner who needed to know what was vegan on the menu

Great menu choice. My son and I had the mixed grill and my daughter the roast lamb. It came on a massive plate full so much food and very tasty couldn't eat it all. Host and staff very friendly. Will recommend to all. Will be going again next time I'm passing.

Popped in as passing & ordered a Sunday roast ( they very kindly let us order, even though we ordered after 2.30pm) and I’m so glad we did! Best roast we’ve had for a long time. We’ll definitely be back!

We don't go out for meals, as we are always disappointed but decided to give The Union Inn a go and we weren't disappointed. Quick service, food hot, very tasty, ample serving plus the staff were very polite and accommodating. Would definitely go back when we visit Moretonhampstead in the future.

Stopped off for lunch last Wednesday .A real find-a proper pub doing really good home made food and plenty of it.A cosy pub with a nice fire and friendly ,welcoming atmosphere and very pleasant staff. Would definitely go back when we are in the area again.

What a find!! Stopped off on route for a quick light lunch. Service and food excellent. The Bar Lady was so friendly and helpful. Menu extensive and food delicious. Came very quickly too. Roaring fire and so comfortable. Loos pristine. Will definitely go back when next in the area.

This is a superb traditional pub restaurant on Dartmoor. Service is good, friendly without being fussy. We had the Xmas pie and the steak and ale pie. Both were home cooked with shortcrust pastry. The accompaniment of vegetables together with mashed potato and chips were perfect. I would go out of my way to dine here again

Really nice pub food .friendly service good atmosphere.except the owner is arrogant and not really friendly we have been there quite a few times and get know acknowledgment not even a Hi from the owner nice to see you so will not be going back ever . the staff are really nice food is good, we know when we are not welcome by the owner ,

Probably the most traditional locals' pub in Moretonhampstead. Cosy public bar with coal fire. An excellent dark real ale at an acceptable 5.1%. Family owned proper freehouse. 🇬🇧🇳🇿

We have just had the most amazing lunch at The Union with our friends. It's our favourite meeting place. The pies are always outstanding, today we chose the Christmas turkey, sausage bacon and stuffing pie. It was fantastic. Full to the crust. The gravy was amazing too. The boys had steak and kidney pudding which again was fabulous. Needless to say we didn't have room for dessert this time. Never disappoints.

Fantastic menu service and food

Lovely pub, very atmospheric in middle of small village Moreton. We had the Bubble n squeak with 2 eggs, bacon & beans ( which was lovely) & Emily had a roast beef which she loved, there was so much veg. Very nice pub, great food & service. Highly recommend.

I am on crutches recovering from an operation. Friends took me for lunch at the Union. The lady behind the bar was wicked and good fun. It was a lovely atmosphere great staff great food and plenty of it. Well done🥳🥳

Had a dinner a couple of days ago and the food is very delicious! The environment is very warm and cozy, and based on the fact that it is in a village, you can see people treating each other like family inside the pub, which puts a smile in your face! Recommended if you want a good dinner with good prices or even just a drink! 👍

A rare find in this day and age of expensive gastro pubs - a traditional village pub with pub grub. We visited on a very busy Saturday night - we hadn't booked as we couldn't get through on the phone. We got a table but were immediately urged to order food quickly as they were busy, which I found off-putting as a welcome. The girl serving the food was very friendly, though. Pub was busy and noisy - a real locals pub. Enormous menu which included some home-made items like pies, but much of it was frozen then deep-fried things - I had scampi, my partner had fish cakes. Chips were typical oven chips, not home-made. But the prices were very reasonable - just over £30 for our food and a pint of local beer each. Would we return? Not sure, or maybe on a quieter evening, mainly due to the abrupt 'welcome' and the noise (loud guffawing men). I think the bar staff may just have been a bit stressed and worried about overloading the kitch staff as they were also doing takeaways which, of course, is good news for a pub in a day and age where pubs are shutting down at an alarming rate. We noted that the posher more expensive pub down the road looked very quiet and mainly empty! No parking, by the way, but the local pay and display car park is free after 6pm.

Dined there several times.. traveling from buckfastleigh..never disappointed

The food is really good, the portions are large and the price kept low, great value. Land lady friendly and the place I like to eat the most on holiday, they have not bumped up the prices like so many others in the area. You need to book as quite small and very busy with holiday makers. Shame about 1 opinionated female local patron on Thursday who appears to hate tourists, otherwise great.

The worst restaurant in town. We were in Moretonhampstead for several days. We have been to this pub three times. Have been served extremely badly and unfriendly three times. The ambiance is okay, but they don't want tourists in this place. 

Lovely evening at the union inn, landlord and staff make you feel very welcome and are very accommodating.. food portions are very generous.. suggestion would be not to eat much before eating at the union inn as you most definitely won’t leave feeling hungry!! Will definitely be eating here again!!

I have eaten here many times over the last 15 years, the pub has remained in the same hands for many years. The food is always of good quality and reasonably priced, on the last visit there were 3 good cask ales on hand pub always in good condition. Well worth a visit.

Fantastic food and service. Variety of the menu was incredible. Food was very fresh and tasty. I had chicken and mushroom pie which was first class. Vegetable were to died for. Definitely one of the best in the area. Don’t miss this one.

Called in today after a run over the moors just as lunches were finishing. However staff were very accommodating and took our order. The mixed grill was one of the best I have ever had. Lovely friendly atmosphere and dog friendly too. Will definitely return.

What a pub! Initially I was a bit skeptical because of the extensive menu, I was worried it was all going to be microwaved food but boy was I wrong. All the food appeared to be cooked fresh and the portions were amazing, very good value for money. There were several dishes that I was very impressed by; firstly the home made pies. They're pretty big and stuffed with meat, I've never had a pie so full. Being handmade on site and with a large variety of pies to choose from you couldn't go wrong. I had the venison, red current and port pie. My 89 year old Nan had the fish pie and she said it was the best she'd ever had. Again absolutely stuffed with chunks of fish and large prawns. Finally the ploughman's, now we didn't have this ourselves but we saw others that did and it looked like a dish fit for a king with the size of it! All the other food we had was excellent but those dishes really impressed me. Well worth going to for a good meal with excellent service and value for money.

Unassuming pub from outside with faded menu. Decided to give it a go. 4 page menu, finally decided on jacket spud, ploughman's for my wife. Good sized portions, excellent quality, staff lovely! If on holiday, find out what the locals know, some of the best quality and value for money food you'll ever have!

The Union in MoretonHampstead is our favourite place to eat. With an extensive menu and very good prices you will never be disappointed. The staff are wonderful and nothing is to much trouble. Booking is advised Highly recommended

Visited Moretonhampstead many times over the last 20 years but only eaten here several times in the last year. Warm and welcoming staff, friendly locals, good choice of drinks and extremely good food. Traditional pub grub which is sadly missing from many pubs, but not this one. I wish we'd gone there years ago. 😊

A great find in Mortonhampsted. The food was great, inexpensive, big portions and tasty (and we can eat a lot!). Really recommend the pie was really good and the puddings too. Definitely recommend this place.

Stopped here on a wet Saturday lunch time in April. So glad we did. If you want traditional local country pub with an extensive traditional menu then this is the pub for you. Assuming it was the landlady that served us, what a lovely lady. The food was WOW!! I had the fish and chip platter which was fantastic, not at all greasy, nice light batter on the fish. AMAZING curry sauce!! Hubby had the steak and kidney suet pudding with chips and veg and it looked great. Best suet pudding he'd had. Very good prices! We will be back soon for Sunday lunch. Bar had a good selection of drinks too. Well worth the 90 minute round trip from Plymouth. Thanks for a great lunch.

Took my wife to the union Inn and we both agreed that the meal we had was excellent

I'd give it 6 out of 5 if I could. Really friendly staff, lovely bar area, although we are at the back in the converted barn. The food was amazing, we had the small roast, fortunately! Not sure if we could have handled the standard. We then shared a generous portion of chocolate fudge cake, which came with pouring chocolate & ice cream, although other options were available. This was great food at really good prices. Also a great pint of Exeter brewery Avocet & a lovely pint of Jail ale. We've been wanting to meet our friends here for a while as they've said how good it was, wish we had done it sooner. Just be aware, the car park is not in use, but there are 2 public car parks nearby, cost £1 for the day on a Sunday.

Magnificent food-reasonable and there is an immense variety of meals to choose from. Very generous portions and the servers are nice! Cozy atmosphere, would definitely recommend!

A Staggeringly good pub. Very friendly staff. Huge portion sizes, I had the Roast Beef, there was loads of it and it was delicious, yorkshire puddings, pig in blanket, potatoes, parsnip, lots of vegetables, stuffing. Very well cooked, very delicious. I then had Chocolate Brownie with honeycomb Ice cream. The portion size was large and it was absolutely delicious! Great food and a huge selection, the menu is 4 pages. I highly recommend, one of the best pubs I've ever been in, and the best meal I've had for a long while. The value was also crazily good, for 3 people being absolutely stuffed with thoroughly good food cost less than £60 including drinks.

Didn't visit the restaurant itself but called up and ordered fish and chips to be collected. It was really tasty, chips lovely and both of them and fish not greasy or overcooked, perfect. thank you

What a amazing experience. We came for a lunch and it was very busy. The gentleman behind the bar looked after so very well and the food was very VERY good. One small tip though, if ordering Guiness, order it first as it takes longer to pour. You live and learn :).

Super place to eat super prepared pub grub. 6 moor walkers arrived - catered for even to awkward person in our group. They’re Friendly - and don’t do excessive overcharging on food- these owners are spot on - thoroughly enjoyed and very tasty. We’re localish - defo going again

Great service, good food, great pub will return.

I was in a Party of about 20 people on Saturday evening. The service was superb and the food perfectly cooked and I abundant quantity for our hungry band of Bell ringers. It came out of the kitchen promptly. Sweets were also very good. Amazing that the cost was so reasonable. Highly recommended.

Went with the family for Sunday dinner. We had 2 Sunday roasts, 1 steak and kidney suet pudding and 1 venison pie. Absolutely delicious all 4 dishes . Good portion sizes. For dessert 1 Eaton Mess 1 treacle tart and 1 lemon roulade. Scrumptious. A warm welcome from the staff showing us where to sit, lots to choose from the menu. Definitely going back soon.
