The dining room is very beautiful and the staff were warm, welcoming, friendly and efficient, without any hint of either superiority or obsequiousness. Food is exquisite and wonderfully subtle, leaving those superb tastes and flavour bursts after consumption. A most interesting amuse bouche preceded the lunching experience. Our pigeon starter was marvellous, complemented by a sharp, yet sweet jus. The halibut main was perfectly cooked and again, exhibited a subtlety of flavour which lingered on the palate. My chocolate dessert was.....sublime. My friend opted for cheese and she was very impressed by the well-kept and extremely interesting selection. Our meal was beautifully accompanied by a quite delicious Chablis which was sharp, clear and fresh.

This was my third lunch within the hallowed walls of Great Fosters, with three guests. The set menu in The Tudor room, with three choices for each course, is £38 per head. An aperitif on the rear patio, with canapés was the perfect thirst quencher on a hot summer's day. Istvan, the charismatic Hungarian maître d' was quick to take our order and Norbert the equally charismatic Hungarian sommelier was on hand to recommend appropriate wines by the glass. On this occasion I had the crab hors d'ouvres with avocado, tomato and almonds – beautifully presented – and sensational. Norbert recommended an Austrian wine; sharp but not too dry. My turbot and gnocchi main course with broad beans and clams was equally good, accompanied by a fine Californian wine made from three grape varieties, full-bodied and reminiscent of a Rhône Chardonnay. Istvan made a selection of five wonderful English cheeses for me; interestingly juxtaposing a sharp Somerset cheddar with a gentler one from the Isle of Mull. I could go on! My three guests were equally thrilled by their choices. Once again, a memorable experience. Portions are small but with an emphasis on extreme flavours with perfect wine accompaniments. Service is impeccable... Norbert even remembered my choice of main course and wine from my last visit weeks before! £65 per head including wines and service charge – great value for a Michelin starred restaurant. Sadly Istvan is leaving to manage the Ocean Restaurant at the Atlantic Hotel in Jersey, but he introduced us to the new maître d', Akos, who also hails from Hungary. We wish them both great success in their new roles!

Bluebells Restaurant & Bar

27/08/2018: It has been over 2 years since I have been here and it was good then, if anything it is even better now.
22/06/2018: A lovely place for a sophisticated lunch. Great menu, ambience and staff. OK there was a large noisy and drunk Ascot party but it was still a very good lunch.

Leftbank Restaurant

24/11/2018: We decided to meet up and have dinner at the same time as talking through the matters we needed to discuss. Greeted by a very friendly waitress, who looked after us for the whole evening very well indeed. She got our drinks and explained about the buffet, although most of us had been there before.
28/07/2018: Pleased to note breakfast was available from 6.15am as I had an early start. Plenty of fresh fruit with yoghurts and cereals, good selection of cold cheeses, meats and fish. Coffee and orange juice brought to the table. Attractive hot buffet display of sausages (including vegetarian), green and smoked bacon, beans, tomatoes, black pudding, fried bread (yippee as the food police were not accompanying me), fried eggs. potatoes etc. This was delicious but actually my tastes are changing and I really enjoy poached eggs with spicy mashed avocado or even eggs benedict. I saw no sign of such dishes as there were no menus with specials available
