The Tuck box takeaway and cafe in Powys

Had a great breakfast here today. I was a bit early for an appointment in Welshpool so I stopped by and asked for their biggest breakfast & cup of tea. Was a lovely big English breakfast for about a tenner. Couldn't ask for more, really. Will drop in again next time I'm over there. Many thanks.

The best food in the town by miles and the staff are really friendly nothing is too much trouble eat in and take away a real jewel in the crown of the town

I had a cheese salad and it was good with grated Cheddar and Brie as well as hardboiled egg. Lettuce was fresh and crunchy, with peppers, celery, tomato, cucumber, onion, coleslaw, beetroot, sweetcorn.

Rude staff. We arrived at the same time as another couple so the cafe was busy. The waitress looked unimpressed that she had to wait to get past us. We ordered two breakfasts, a latte and an Americano. When the drinks came, there was two lattes so we informed the waitress one latte was supposed to be an Americano. Instead of changing this, she argued that we said we wanted the same when ordering. We said we wanted the same breakfast, not the same drink and proceeded to give separate drinks orders. We clearly said Americano. It's not a problem that she got the order wrong, what was a problem is the attitude she portrayed. We certainly will not be back again, there are other cafes in the area that are super friendly with good food. The food was okay, but your attitudes let you down.

Allowed variance from the standard menu and the bacon was the best I've tasted for years. Lovely cafe, good value, great food.

Lovely , friendly little cafe. Food was excellent and staff friendly and polite. Although we had no dog with us, I noticed that dogs were welcome.

What a lovely little café? A friend and I came for the day to see a friend who lives in Welshpool and popped to this café. It's fairly clean, tidy and the staff are friendly. If I pop to Welshpool again in the future, I'll definitely pop in. 😁

Fantastic breakfast! It's been a long time since I found a place I genuinely could not fault. The food came out piping hot, in good time and was good value. I don't understand what more you could want! Keep up the amazing work!

There are other cafes in the area and they must be better than this one. We ordered a couple of toasties but a group that came in and ordered after us, got their food before us. The hot chocolate was watery. The milkshake was the power form from the supermarket with cream on it but at a crazy price and the toastie was more bread than any ingredients. Yet it all looked great though. But the bill was definitely not worth it. Also there is only 1 toilet so you'll be waiting if it's busy. Don't expect service with a smile either. I'd go elsewhere if I were you, they look busier for a reason! If you do go here, I hope you have a better experience than we did. Good luck.

Great breakfast and friendly staff 👌

We'd booked in at the Welshpool Steam Railway and had some time before our train. This place provided a good coffee stop. I had a Latte and a Scone which came with clotted cream, jam and a fresh strawberry - delicious. My wife had tea and toast with an added treat of Marmite! Service was OK, pleasant enough.

Just stopped by for a quick cuppa. Friendly service. Nice little cafe.

Stopped at The Tuck Box for breakfast on our way to Aberystwyth. Nice warm welcome. Staff are friendly and polite. We had The English Breakfast with toast and a cup of tea. The food is amazing. Fresh, hot and so tasty. Nice brew too! Will definitely stop here again if we are up this way.Thank you!

I remain puzzled why you can have a small meat breakfast but not a small vegetarian breakfast ? It’s not about cost, but on principle why encourage waste? Left disappointed and hungry given refusal to be flexible on what food I buy.

Don’t think I’ll be visiting this place again. Called in earlier this morning, ordered a cup of tea and a prawn salad but after eating the first few prawns, I doubted their freshness. I continued to eat the salad but after a few more prawns, their chewy texture with a bad aftertaste made me realise they weren’t what I was expecting. (I still have that aftertaste now) I finished the rest of the food but did not want to cause a big fuss. When my plate was collected, I discreetly mentioned the prawn issue to the lady but was quickly told ‘they were freshly prepared this morning’. I reiterated my concern but was told the same again. After my plate was taken, I waited for about 10 mins as I was expecting a manager to possibly come and see me regarding my issue. Nobody came so I went in to pay. I reiterated the concern to the lady on the till but was quickly told again the same words - ‘freshly prepared this morning’. At this point I said ‘that doesn’t mean the prawns were fresh this morning and that because it is fish, I thought you should be aware as a minimum’. I also said that I eat a lot of prawns and wouldn’t have left them if I thought they were ok. Again, the manager was not called. I paid what I was asked and then left, being told to ‘have a nice day’. At no point was my concern raised to a manager that I am aware of. I accept I should have insisted on seeing a manager however, if staff are not willing to raise the issue to the manager themselves, there is clearly a management issue itself present anyway. Feedback to businesses is vital in order to continue with success. I do not wish to cause any issues and I am not one for bad mouthing a good business however, the prawns tasted odd and my comments were not taken seriously at the time raised.

Will not be going in again, staff very miserable didn't see one smile, had coffee and tea cakes, tea cakes had been cremated top and bottom . Not a very enjoyable end to our lovely morning in Welshpool

Turned up at 7:30 as it says it opens, and only to hear a load of horrible language coming from the kitchen, witch immediately we wanted to turn round and exit, but we were that hungry, we stayed and then after standing there for 5 minutes listening to all the disgusting language, the women finally sees us stood there and then says the griddles won’t be heated up for another half an hour, from witch you would think that the would come in half an hour before open to prep everything ready for service at 7:30! We left! And had a Greg’s instead lol

Nice little hidden cafe that does take away too. Food was lovely and good value for money. Staff friendly and happy to help.

Walked in at 7.30am and within 10 minutes we had the perfect breakfast with the highest quality of service including beaming smiles. Cannot recommend the Tuck Box highly enough 15 out of 10.

We went here twice while in the area as the food is excellent and the staff very friendly. The place is clean and tidy, and has an interesting display of mementoes in a glass display, things like Green Shield Stamp books!

My friend and I were very pleased we found this little cafe tucked away down one of the alleys. I opted for baked potato with coronation chicken which was so tasty. Plenty of chicken with the right amount of curry powder and plenty of succulent sultanas. My friend chose a chicken and bacon sandwich which came on massive slices of granary bread which she thoroughly enjoyed. The accompanying salad and coleslaw to both lunches was also very tasty. Service was great and we will definitely return next time we are in Welshpool

Fabulous breakfast to go in a tray for us as we travelled through Welshpool. Delicious food all wrapped up in a tray with cutlery. Just what we needed, thank you to the 2 ladies cooking and serving us. 👌🏼

Oh my this was a gem of a find. It has takeaway and a little sit-down eating part. It has 5 booths iirc fits 4 people in each. The big breakfast was delicious and had the best balckpuddig I've had in a long time. Lovely friendly staff. Takes cash and card. Cosy and warm feeling place would love to go again next time in in area

Visited this lovely cafe on our way back from a holiday in Wales. One member of our party has dietary needs requiring Vegan type food and the staff were very helpful and accommodating to prepare something special. All of our meals were lovely, staff were friendly and the price was reasonable. Will definitely be back.

A nice cafe for a snack or meal.The breakfast never disappoints. Other menu items are also fresh & tasty. The service is fine and the food arrives quickly. Just down an alley way beside the old indoor market. The only disappointment is the tiny thin paper napkin!

Staying in the area in our motorhome and went to the munch box for a breakfast, very warm welcome we had a hearty breakfast and it was brilliant, could not fault it, very well presented, eggs cooked to perfection and a lovely brew. Definetly worth a visit and we will be back soon thanks for a lovely breakfast

Just popped in for a cuppa and finished up having a toasted tea cake to eat. Others sat in the place had something more substantial to eat and looked good. Seemed many were regular returning customers

Just popped in for some tea and toast and ended up having the most tastiest bacon and egg since childhood!, granary thick toast and butter and to top it off a proper decent brew! The service is spot on and food delivered quickly and hot. Most definitely recommend this little cafe when in Welshpool. 😊😊

Lunch was very tasty, fresh, homely comfort food. I had lasagne the first day and came back for more the following day when I had roast of the day. I particularly appreciated the freshly cooked veg. I was served in good time by friendly staff and folk in the cafe were also obviously enjoying their meals and being friendly. Highly recommend this restaurant/cafe.

The worst breakfast we ever had. Sausages are row, and bacons are half cooked. To pop it up--- the rudest boss we ever seen, no customer service to anyone and abusive to her own staff! All she want is you to give her your money. So stay away from there if you don't want insults. We have certainly learnt our lesson!

Just had the best beef baguette I’ve had in a long long time - too often carvery meat has been cooked to within milliseconds of vaporisation so to get a hot beef sandwich made with medium rare, tender juicy meat is worth writing down!!! Loads...

Recently moved to Welshpool and only just found this place. The food is 1st class sausage egg and mushroom sandwiches are awesome big big sandwiches good price . Very friendly staff and very organised , I would definitely recommend this to everyone

Sat out side but rarely gets the sun although warm today. Service well socially distanced and covid secure. I simply opted for omelette and beans plus tea which came quickly and was very nice indeed. Seems to be a comprehensive breakfast menu and quite popular....

We dropped in for lunch on a Saturday and had an excellent meal. I had an omelette with mushrooms and cheese; husband had a panini. They were both freshly made and served by friendly staff (despite the fact they were getting ready to close up).Very good value (half the price of a very disappointing lunch we'd had two days earlier). A tasty meal and speedily prepared.

A very friendly small cafe down a side alley off the main Welshpool high street. My wife & I had a late breakfast .About 11.30 am and were served a really good “fry up” Bacon ,eggs , beans , mushrooms & tomatoes with toast on the side and mugs of tea. Very good quality and plenty of food . Very friendly and attentive service . We will certainly go back again. They do have a nice varied menu other than breakfast items which we will certainly try next time .

Not good at all, very overpriced, i asked for a breakfast box, asked if i could have no black pudding or tomotoes, in exchange for a piece of bacon, got shot down straight away, only place i know that does this, i had no bread and butter which i was meant to have, sausages are pre cooked, eggs were half cooked and the tray was dripping with grease

Travelling thru Welshpool early one Tuesday we parked up looking for a coffee break, spotted The Tuck Box lights on so went to check it out...from outside it looked bright and welcoming, inside it all looked brand new. Greeted very warmly by (I think) the owner, ordered bacon & egg sandwiches and coffee and waited a very short time while they were freshly cooked, lovely salty bacon, soft fresh bread and (tiniest nit-pick) slightly overcooked egg, a runny yolk would have been perfection but they were still very good. The coffee was good, strong and fresh too. The whole place was spotlessly clean, including the toilet. Absolutely cracking place and bound to be our go-to on future trips.

Clean with table service and cosy on a cold winter's morning. Beware of the large breakfast it's huge, couldn't finish it. Limited seating but they have a couple of tables outside in the summer.

Can’t fault it. Called in for a quick lunch- Ii has jacket potato with chilli, my husband had soup of the day with bread. Both meals were enormous and piping hot. Staff lovely also.

We always pop in here for take away sandwiches on our way to the coast. Lovely fresh food, proper ham & lovely roast chicken. I would highly recommend it.

Had the omelet off the new menu it was fantastic reasonable priced. Would recommend the tuck box to anyone who would ask where to go for a nice lunch. Also the dinners are tip top to. My only criticism is that the hearty breakfast should come with a tea or a coffee but can’t fault anything else 👍

We made a special journey to have breakfast here on Monday 2/9/19. We'd been in the past and enjoyed our breakfast and the warm welcome and this time was no different. With staff that have over 20years service invested in the tuck box, serving and waiting and loads of involvement as a business with local good causes. How can you go wrong, when going here. Good staff and good food.

The Sandwiches are freshly made in front of you, there is lots of choice and you can have exactly what you would like (no onion but sweetcorn etc, I'm always in here, way better than processed rubbish food from Greggs

Hard to believe Ella One-star ate in the same place as where I'm enjoying breakfast now. Bacon cooked as I asked it to be, eggs so yellow they've got to be free range and crusty toast. I eat here often because for breakast, interesting salads, sandwiches made to order unlike Greggs, or home cooked lunch including carvery, you won't do better than the Tuck Box.

If I could give no stars, I would. Undercooked Hash browns were dark grey inside. Disgusting. Eggs cooked in a dirty pan. Cheap sausages. Even the toast was soggy. I am all for supporting independent businesses but this place is a joke. So disappointing.
