Stopped at The Trawler on our way south, our kids won't let us past the door without going in! Warmly welcomed, and served quickly, we were enjoying our chips in no time with an amazing view of the sea. Highly recommend, the gang at the Trawler always impress. Thanks guys ❤️

We have visited a few times and the staff are really friendly, my husband had fish and chips which was very good and so fresh. I had scampi and chips which was excellent too. I recently read they have also won an award! Congratulations!! Highly recommended. I will be back soon. :)

Lovely fish and chips, also lucky they had battered pizza and mars bars too. Food was delicious and really reasonable. The two ladies working in there are lovely and super friendly.

Was really looking forward to dinner at this chippy as I had visited before. We stopped in Golspie on 10 September to pick up takeaway and sign posted on door said opening hours on Sundays were 4 p.m. It was only 3 p.m., so we walked around for an hour realizing at that time that there weren’t any staff in the restaurant. It was obvious they were not opening at all, let alone at 4 p.m. The “sign” is printed on plain paper and could easily be updated. The least they could do is update their operating hours signage if hours have changed.

Only doing take away most nights but fish and chips were some of the best I have ever had. Really fresh and piping hot

We had two nicely cooked Haddock suppers that was tasty and wasn't too greasy. Our complaint was the amount of chips served with supper. Maybe they was running short of chips at time we was there. So annoying to have small portions when food expensive and nicely cooked . May have too order an extra portion of chips next time lol.

We called in on our way from the the Orkney Ferry as a break on our way to Aberdeen. Service with a smile and we got great chunky chips plus perfectly cooked fish in crispy batter. We ll be back.

What is with all the great reviews? Glum staff, happy to talk with each other, no smiles over the counter though. I dont normally leave reviews, but this was rubbish. Chips, terrible, fish, terrible. I wouldnt go back, and did not enjoy it. Again, I have no idea why there are good reviews.

Stopped off for a fish supper and scampi and loaded fries. UNREAL! Stopped in again on way back home and had the same again, equally impressed. The staff behind the counter were very nice and welcoming even though it was quite busy, think they were Lauren and Hannah, sorry if i got your names wrong!. Definitely will be back again!

If you're traveling the NC 500, find yourself in Golspie and a little peckish, then stop by The Trawler for some fish & chips, dine in or take away! What can I say, simply fabulous fish & chips! Clean, fresh fish & chips served piping hot and absolutely delicious, and all delivered with simply wonderful customer service! A huge congrats to Mama P (simply lovely manager of The Trawler) and her team. Mama P is extremely warm and welcoming and her priority is your enjoyment and comfort, so do pop by. Oh and note, this little gem of a find isn't just any old Fish & Chip shop, it just happens to be the winner of Scotland's Business Awards 2023 for best fish and chip shop! Popped in for a take away and had the most delicious haddock and chips served by two very pleasant young ladies. We were able to go around the corner and eat them on a bench overlooking the sea.

We've ordered fish and chips. everything was fantastically fresh. Fish melted in our mouths. Chips made from fresh potatoes. Taste of my childhood. :) Superb atmosphere inside. Everyone who enters the restaurant is welcomed warmly. Don't worry if you don't know the name of the dish. The lady who was waiting on us described everything so well. The lady waiting on us - an incredibly warm-hearted person. She gave up her time for every quest for chatting so that everyone felt relaxed. And most important :) You not getting a heart attack when you need to pay for a family dinner. The prices are truly good. I will always come back to The Trawler. Thank you.

My partner and I were here a couple of days ago and I already can’t wait to go back. The gluten free fish supper was the best I’ve ever had, it’s very rare to find a good gf batter but they have nailed it. The homemade tartare sauce was delicious, the chips were amazing and the list goes on. Really impressed. Definitely a 5 star experience.

Travelled the 15 minutes up to golspie for 2 fish suppers. Both me and my partner had sore stomachs and felt ill a few hours after eating them. Apparently not the only ones to have had this.The fish was okay, but the chips were a sad state - mostly scraps, and the whole chips we did have were extremely oily.

Got a couple of fish, chips and mushy peas. The chips were quite pale but not at all hard and so were quite good. Fish was also quite good but the peas were cold. Not a bad wee chippy but nowhere near as La Mirage in Helmsdale.

A delicious chippie and convenient Pit stop while going North on A9. The fish and chips supper was delicious. Both the batter and the chips were crispy. The curry sauce was excellent! We were staying in Dornoch last night and decided we wanted a chippy. Google came up with this place so we decided to travel the 10 miles or so up to enjoy some fish and chips. We arrived just as they were opening and waiting just short of 30 minutes for two fish suppers. The chips had 100% been recooked. The fish was tasty but the whole lot was covered in oil and both of us were sick all night. Didn’t eat anything else really all day before we get the ‘must have been someone else you ate’. Really wish we hadn’t come here or eaten the fish.

The chips taste strange and always seem overcooked. Little scraps of overcooked potato make up half the box and the “normal” chips are hallow every time I come here. Batter on the fish is very thin and gets matted into the fish which makes it hard.Very oily, even for a chip shop. The fish itself is lovely. Have had a sore belly from eating here, along with a lot of people I know. Will be going to Tain from now on.

We had a takeaway on Saturday evening, I had breaded fish, my partner had scampi. All was very well cooked, the chips are so lovely as is the tartare sauce and mushy peas. We eat here regularly when travelling up and down from the north and we can hand on heart say we’ve never had a bad takeaway. We were just sorry that we were too late to buy some sweets from the new sweet shop next door, but we’ll be back!

Visited this week and it is one of the worst chip shops we have eaten in. Chips taste like they have been recooked, everything was absolutely greasy and when we got home and checked the menu we had been overcharged! Fish was mainly just batter. They got the condiments all wrong and generally was disgusting.

The staff were very friendly and we got talking to a couple of locals who said they all use the place so it must be great.Will stop here again and hopefully the restaurant section will be open and I will let you know what that is like.Great place to stop off and stretch your legs as there are a few interesting shops etc.

Food of this quality is out of place in a chip shop, the chips were like something you’d be served in a restaurant as opposed to the grease-smothered mess you’d expect in a “chippy”. I had a king rib as well as a sausage, and both were fantastic with batter that passed the test under the knife. The gentleman who served me was courteous, charming and obviously puts a lot of energy into maintaining the place as it was spotless! I didn’t interact with other staff much but they seemed an upbeat bunch. I will be back to try many other items on the menu, and I’d urge any prospective diners to do the same.

Stopped off for a nice portion of fish and chips by the sea on our drive down the coast and had a meal we won’t forget- a hair in my chips and clearly a bad piece of fish or some other issue as I spent the rest of the day throwing up. Would not return!!

We had two take way meals over two nights from the Trawler. First night Fish and Chips which were quite good. Second night a hamburger. When I got home all I had was a bun and a beef patty. No butter on the bun, no sauce, no salad, no anything! It cost a fortune for a roll and piece of meat!

I visit the Trawler regularly and it never fails to disappoint. The fish is delicious and the breadcrumbs are out of this world. It’s so nice to eat somewhere that has proper chips. The service is always good and I am made to feel very welcome every time.

Was recommended this chippy by a friend so popped in here for a well deserved lunch after a walk up Ben Bhraggie. Had fish n chips and haggis n chips, both were lovely sat at the seafront. Very fresh and tasty and so refreshing to be served by such a friendly guy!

We were on holiday and had visited The Trawler several years ago. We were very pleased to find that this was a dog friendly eating place. We were there at 4pm in the hope that it wouldn't be too busy and at the time we appeared to be the only customers. There was a very long wait for the meal and we had long finished our cup of tea by the time the food arrived. The staff were apologetic about the wait, although no explanation given, however the fish and chips were worth waiting for.

I felt the food was way over cooked. Chips are crunchy, as was the batter on the king rib. Last time I visited here for food was about a year ago and I couldnt fault it then. I won’t be visiting again that’s for sure.
