The Tides in Coleraine

Went here for dinner with the kids. We just turned up and were seated quickly. Super impressed with the little kids menu pack which included crayons and colouring so major kudos there. The menu was decent but our server (quite young) was confused about the kids meal deal which we had to query several times to get to the bottom of. Kids food was good quality and decent portions and my son absolutely loved his Tuck Shop Sunday desert which was literally his dream desert! Adults wise I got the steak which I found underwhelming all it came with was a mountain of crispy onions. I did get a portion of chips also on the side and do note they unbelievably charge 40p for ketchup!!! My wife got the Thermidor which was nice but came with very little. My recommendation is get plenty of sides if you want to feel sated and probably say avoid the steak. Venue wise it is very nicely styled and the staff were friendly but I fear our very young waiter had a lot to learn yet.

Arrived at our designated time, got seated promptly, and then we were left alone for nearly 20 minutes before I had to ask if somebody would take our order. We started to eat over an hour later. Poor service, staff are too young with no training. This is sad because I have loved Tides in the past, but unfortunately, things have fallen by the way side.

Tides was good. We were a group of 7 people, and everyone enjoyed dinner. Cocktails were tasty, and food was OK. I ordered beef Wellington, and it wasn't what I expected (more deconstructed), but my son found his fish tasty. The red jelly dessert was a highlight for him! The restaurant was noisy, but it's because they were full and we couldn't get parking outside, so we had to illegally park on the sidewalk. Our waitress was friendly and helpful.

Had family home from England, booked a table on Wednesday evening 3rd April. Staff where very friendly but unfortunately the food was average. My brother in law got duck with noodles he said it was ok. My son's Gammon was fatty and tough, his mash potato was dried out, and my chicken Wellington was tasteless, sour cream fries had been reheated. Definitely wouldn't be in any rush back.

I have been coming to Tides frequently for past few years with family buy the last three times I have visited there (within last 3 months) the food has been very poor as he price has increased. I ordered my food at 17:18 and it arrived at 17:24. It was clear that the burger had been reheated and the garlic cubes were burnt. My wife had the duck which was full of fat and the noodles had been reheated also. What once used to be a family favourite, unfortunately has turned out to be far from a positive experience these past three visits. It would be great to go back to tides and enjoy the good food that once was on offer.

Food excellent, service very good. No complaints, this restaurant very hard to knock. Keep this up people.

Staff EXCEPTIONAL esp Mr Steps on the door Restaurant SPOTLESS Speed of food can't fault Prices BRILLIANT With 5* for the above 4 it's a massive shame the food let's it down so badly! TO say it's bland is being kind. It's absolutely TASTELESS. GARLIC CUBES no garlic MEDIUM STEAK overcooked, small and like rubber Chicken gougons possible worst kids ever had, there was ZERO TASTE. IM amazed that a Restaurant so highly thought of has gotten so bad in the most important aspect-id happily pay more, wait longer and have rubbish service if the food was better. Massive overhaul needed and probably a chef that can COOK

Booked a table here on Monday 18 March, having eaten here many times we were looking forward to it! On this occasion the food can only be described as mediocre. The Shredded Duck Pancakes... Sliced fatty duck, not shredded nor crispy, the cucumber was thickly cut, more for dipping than the usual fine strips for duck pancakes! Stale prawn crackers. The main course of Honey Chilli Chicken noodles, chicken was dry and vertually no sauce on a bed of noodles with no sauce! The sour cream and chilli fries seemed stale, soggy as if they had been sitting for a while, the most disappointing thing was this was a mother's day gift! We complained and they didn't charge us for the duck, the table next to us also complained and they didn't pay for their duck either!!! At the moment definitely would not recommend!

The food is always great in Tides.

Lovely atmosphere in this restaurant with great views over the pitch & putt course and the seascape. Staff were helpful and five of us enjoyed our food and conversation. Has a good beer and wine selection.

Nice spot but food was nothing special They didn't even know how to rest a steak.what can I say the waitress spilled garlic butter over my new coat they did apologise and accidents do happen but the manager was supposed to come over but I heard him say to the waitress just ignore it and they will go away not very professional,so no I will not be back again

In a very beautiful place and close to the sea. We didn't like the food. We came because we were recommended 2 meals for one price and we found out that it doesn't exist. It's not the business' fault but we expected the prices we sent for £25 per dish to be received accordingly. It was not beef wellington in any case, the meat was overdone, the dough was dry and the mushrooms were not chopped and the way it was served was not close to what it should be. For a second course we ordered a steak which was dry and tough. Towards the end, they started folding the tables that we were still eating and gave the impression that they wanted us to leave. do not recommend

A beautiful location, but the food was mediocre at best and the atmosphere lacking. Some of the waiting staff were attentive, but not all. Overall the experience was disappointing.

I’ve attended tides for some time now and always amazing service. However I attended on Saturday and my opinion has drastically changed. Service was fairly poor, staff getting drinks order wrong, and didn’t seem impressed when this was challenged however it was corrected. 2 course for price of main offer has now been removed, all meals didn’t come with sides. Our meals weren’t overly hot, quality appears less than normal, portions reduced. Just overall my experience was not as good as all the times I previously had.

The food was excellent although, portions a little on the large side! Unfortunately, the service wasn’t up to scratch. Our mains were forgotten and we had to remind them. When we asked for some garlic bread to keep our kids going due to the delay, they included this in the bill at the end. Once challenged, the waiter took it off and also removed one fries. I think we were unlucky as most tables seemed to get good service.

After good reviews disappointing. Fish was very poor quality.... Chips and Garlic cubes were nice though.

Really good food and the presentation of the food is very good 👍🏼 You can taste that the food fresh is in particular the fish dishes. OUTSTANDING and very tasty. Staff are kind and nothing is too much. Not to forget the location and the Ocean view is breathtaking

We have been to Tides on numerous occasions and never had cause to complain however today's visit did not live up to our expectations. Staff were friendly and order was taken promptly and food served quickly. However, we ordered a starter to share which was brought to the table with no plates/cutlery. Waiter told us to enjoy! We had to ask for plates and cutlery. When the main course was served we again had to ask for cutlery as no fresh cutlery was given to us. And finally for dessert I had to once again ask for cutlery. This will definitely make us think twice about returning.

Staff were very friendly and helpful...were able to fit us in just as lunchtime was ending. Food was excellent... Amazing setting and views

It’s rare I rave about a kids menu (for value, quantity and quality) but when 3 kids want to get the chef out for a round of applause u know they are doing something right. Adults meals great as always, staff great as always, looking forward to next visit

We booked The Tides to meet my brother and sister in law. We were met by the wonderful Manager and shown to our table. The decor is beautiful and the service throughout was attentive and efficient. Our meal was tasty and timely and such good value. One starter 4 main 3 Dessert 3 G&t 1 Guinness 2 coke £111 Everything was full Of flavour and came in a very timely fashion. We always visit when we are home and are never disappointed.

I know its Christmas, but the tables where cramped in. Sitting next to 2 other couples, elbows practically touching. The food was cold when it arrived, and the couple next to us also complained about the food. Afters menu was Poor. Mass produced food. On paying, I said the food was cold, to a reply off, ok ill pass it on to the kitchen staff. Would not recommend a visit

Yum. Was my husband and i's birthday, stayed in Portrush for the night and visited The Tides for dinner. Excellent food, excellent service. 👌

Good food and good value, nice views and atmosphere.

Be aware parking is limited especially on a Saturday night which is only to be expected. The food was good but not exceptional. Prawn cocktail is quite sad as there was no "detail put into it, lettuce (Which was crispy) prawns and sauce that was it. This is the sort of dish I could make not being a chef and I would have sprinkled it with a little paprika which they did not. The Guinness wheat was excellent with starter. The main courses came and were as a mentioned good but nothing special or memorable, the Maple and Whiskey salmon being the best. But they all came together, and were hot and orders were 100% correct. I have to say at this point the staff were excellent, friendly and chatty albeit it very busy so 👍 to them. Atmosphere is pretty "noisy" if being honest as the building is very open plan. There is a amazing view from upstairs and the outside balcony has a wonderful panoramic view. So in conclusion Tides is a bit noisy, food is good but not memorable, staff extremely good with stunning view.

Oh dear. What a sunken wreck of a restaurant Tides has become. I'd rather eat on the Girona. It used to be highlight of a trip to the North Coast 5 years ago or so. Now .... what on earth has happened ? The food is drearily unimaginative, using cheap, nasty, botulinic ingredients, like a second rate Wetherspoons by the sea. At least the Spoons is cheap. This place however ....... never again. Feel ripped off. There needs to a a cataclysmic event in the kitchen to reset and restart this once beloved gem at the Port.

Truly the worst main course ever! After a fabulous starter. Sea food spaghetti looked totally unappetising. The spaghetti was cut up into lengths that were too short to wrap around a fork and too long to eat. It was over cooked and soggy. The fish was grey and unidentifiable. There were no prawns. We couldn’t eat it. Then the waitress came back and said that it had been tested in the kitchen and the fish was off. We then ordered a dessert which never arrived. Beautiful view though!

Food was of excellent quality our waitress was warm and friendly. It was a beautiful evening. Highly recommended.

Food was nice but on the website it had a different much bigger menu which ok fine they havnt updated it. We had our food and menu said it was 2 courses for £16 and then £3 extra for sides. That was ok but when we paid they said beef courses were £4 extra and chicken dishes were £3 extra and sides are now £3.50. This literally isn’t displayed anywhere on the menu which is literally false advertising. For this reason I wouldn’t go back unfortunately because it’s quite misleading and god only knows what would happen if we didn't have the extra money.. Such a pity as the tides was somewhere we enjoyed going to, but it has most definitely changed.

Experience not as good as on many previous visits. Due to upstairs closed due to refurbishment. We also had cold draught when door opened.

What an amazing gem. We had a perfect lunch. Such delicate flavour but still plenty to eat. Spectacular views and friendly service. The chef is a genius!

Not my first time in this restaurant and happily won't be my last. The food was of a high standard and portions plentiful. Staff were friendly if a little inexperienced . Value wise, 2 mains, 2 desserts, a couple of soft drinks for under £50 in this day and age is good value in anyone's book. Be back soon.

Lovely place to eat, nice staff just a pity the food was so poor. This could have been such a lovey experience as the surroundings were beautiful, the staff were very friendly and although one meal was incorrect when it came, it was quickly rectified and the bill was discounted which was good. The nachos were appalling, i don’t really understand how something so simple can be so bad, we didn’t get charged for these either but I would have preferred edible nachos! Not sure if the chef was having an off day so I couldn’t say not to go but I also couldn’t recommend the food .

Good service. Food disappointing for the price. Even charged extra for gravy that didn’t come with the beef and mash.

We took advantage of the 2 courses for £16 deal today, and we were not disappointed, the food, we both had caesar salad with chicken as extra for starters, a tides burger and a rump steak with garlic cubes (cubes are extra) for main course, the food was delicious, the service was great and the view superb. Thank you.

A lovely find, beautiful setting and good service. Great kids menu and specials. We were here for lunch and they had a deal on 2 for 16 not including sides. Salt and chilli chips, excellent. Husband had fish and was good but would order something different if returned. I had bruschetta to start and was nice but felt it was missing something. For the main had the pesto spaghetti and was okay but wouldn’t order again. Kids loved the ice cream and enjoyed sticky pudding. Overall a lovely lunch out in a beautiful location, much nicer than the Ramore. Would return but would love a few more options for veggies.

Having had to send cold food back front of house staff possibly Duty manager brought the 'fresh plate back ' with absolute rotten attitude won't be back we live in Portstewart

I have to say that despite recent mixed reviews on tripadvisor our experience was first class both with regard to service and food.

The menu choice snd price was good but the restaurant wasn't warm enough so the food cooled quickly. Someone left the front door open and it was breezy night in Portrush!!! Need to make sure the door closes automatically. Staff are very attentive so no problem there. Will def go back but will look for a table close to the kitchen.

I have been this restaurant a number of times and never been disappointed. However it was so good on my visit last night. The staff were superb attentive, polite and efficient. My meal of chilli prawn starter and main of Pork fillet stack was excellent. This restaurant never disappoints but on this occasion the whole experience was superb.

Having eaten in Tides on a number of occasions and always had a good experience, last night was rather disappointing. Shown to a table which was probably the least best upstairs in a corner beside the loos we got off to a disappointing start. Arrived at 6.45 and email booking said we had the table to 8pm. Meal arrived at about 7.40. The smoked fish meal was fine but my medallions of pork wre overdone and a bit dry. Grilled peppers and pesto fine and champ a bit dry also. Staff were pleasant but overall not up to their usual standard.

A favourite spot for food and enjoying a drink and the views on the balcony area at the back of the restaurant. A busy spot, with great food. Reasonably priced.

Wonderful! Passing through town and booked on line. Amazing upstairs views of sunset to the left and the lights of the funfair to the right. Vegetarian spaghetti was excellent. Desert menu ALL looks fab. Had cheesecake and pannacota. Service really friendly and fast. Sooo friendly Thank you

This was our second visit. First was November 2022 and was very good. Our second visit was to celebrate 🍾 my 78th birthday main meal arrived looking like a plate of fried onions I could not see my steak for onions not appetising.

Ate here last night with my wife. Staff were lovely and so quick at taking order bringing food and drinks. Nothing was any problem to them what so ever. And the food was 1st class. And super cheap will definitely be back. Thanks again for a lovely meal

Visited Tides 22nd August, myself and three teenage daughters. Place was busy, glad had booked. Car park was full, parked on roadside. We were seated downstairs, not unpleasant but have heard the upstairs part with sea views is much nicer. Service was quick, waiter friendly and approachable. Food came promptly, I got the fish and chips, all happy with the food. Three choices for vegetarian option. Dessert lovely, especially cheesecake. Overall happy, would go back, might ask for the upstairs part next time.

We ate here as a family of 4 on a midweek evening in late summer. The restaurant was busy but we had a reservation. Service was prompt and efficient without being friendly. Starters drinks arrived quickly and wete fine if unspectacular. The kids burger would require our 10 year old to dislocate his jaws like a snake to take a bite. Itwas too big and dry and overcooked. Our chips with our main had the appearance of having been let go cold and were recooked. Greasy and unpleasant. When we pointed this out to the young waitress we received a 'sorry about that' whereupon she disappeared never to be seen again. When we asked for the bill no mention was made of our dissatisfaction so we paid and left.

Review from 2021: Great food and portion sizes. Friendly staff and amazing view. Review from 2023: This place has improved a lot. It was already great but it's even better now. Fantastic selection on the menu, something for everyone. The lunchtime deal is great and reasonably priced. THEY HAVE PROPER NACHOS! 🙂 Our server Cormac is an asset to the place, hold onto him. He was so genuine and pleasant, made us feel welcome. He has a very positive demeanour and is a natural people person. The views are WOW, lovely setting. 😍

What started out as a very pleasant dining experience turned into one of the most disappointing I have ever experienced with customer service severely lacking and quite frankly non existent and downright insulting. The restaurant setting is excellent and tables we were allocated upstairs overlooking the sea were first class. The staff on arrival seemed pleasant, well presented and efficient. The premises were bright, airy and clean. The drinks order was taken promptly along with the food order. The starters received were okay but small portions. No complaints. We were split between 2 x tables of 4. 4 adults at one table and 4 x teenage boys at the adjoining table. Despite ordering together, the boys table was served 10 minutes before ours. Minor complaint but no major drama. The main problem came with the 8oz rump steak that three of the adult party, including me, ordered. All three persons ordered the steaks to be cooked medium rare. All three steaks were delivered at least medium well. Furthermore the steaks to touch were tepid and looked to have been pre-flashed and simply heated up. I cut down the centre of my steak as I always do and there was no pink visible and no juice from the steak. It was well over cooked. The other two steaks the same. We called a member of staff to the table and sent all three plates back. After at least 10-15 minutes with no further staff contact a young female manager approached the table. She claimed the steaks sent back had all been cut into in the kitchen and they did not agree with our assessment. She was adamant all three steaks were served medium rare and we were all wrong. They simply were not medium rare in any description and any self respecting chef claiming they were medium rare should return to culinary school or find another profession. The staggering options were then given were as follows. Purchase three more steaks on top of the three sent back and they would be cooked rarer. This would mean us purchasing 3 more x £20 steaks. Or, the original three steaks which by this time had been in an unknown location for over 15 minutes could be returned to us. Sides and sauces had by this stage been sitting on the table and were stone cold. I firmly refused either unsatisfactory option and stated my extreme dissatisfaction. Why would I pay another £20 per steak to have them overcooked by the same chef! I stated I would not be paying for any of the three steak plates and demanded this was given further consideration. Another 20 minutes passed in which staff passed us by and notably stared at us as if we had landed from outer space. It was uncomfortable and humiliating. The female manager had disappeared. We called another member of staff over and asked to speak to the main person in charge. Another few minutes later another female member of staff came over. She claimed to have spoken to the restaurant owner who was obviously off site and offered to cook three more steaks. I calmly stated that given the inordinate amount of time we had waited we did not want any more food. We simply did not trust the chef to get the cook on the steak correct and due to the amount of time we had been left in limbo I just wanted to get out and make alternative arrangements for dinner. I stated we will pay for what food and beverages we have consumed and we will leave. At no time did we ask for any concessions or reduction in bill. The issue was the cook on the steak and the appalling levels of customer service. We were just about to leave and believe it or not three more steaks arrived from the kitchen. We sent them back as our decision had already been transmitted to the staff member that we did not want anymore food and were planning to leave. Zero communication between front of house staff and the kitchen in this instance was all too evident. I've eaten in many fine steak restaurants in my life, all over the world. I was not expecting the best steak experience ever at The Tides however I was expecting a reasonable quality steak to be at least cooked as ordered. We made a very reasonable and wholly correct observation the steaks were over cooked and we were simply treated like pariahs. Not one apology, initially told we (the customer) were wrong and that regardless of our opinion we would need to pay. The time taken to deal with our complaint was atrocious. The fact an owner needed to be contacted and an on site manager could not resolve the matter in a timely fashion was appalling. We then had the inconvenience of having to get dinner elsewhere for 3 adults out of our party of 8. I will simply never darken the door of the Tides or any sister restaurant again. Style over substance springs to mind. Customer service re-training required along with a chef who knows medium rare from medium well.

Low quality food. A glorified fish and chip shop. We’d only popped in to have a quick meal before a drive home. Whilst we weren’t searching for a high end restaurant we didn’t want to pay for mediocre food. We’d passed by and there seemed to be a decent crowd which can sometimes indicate how popular a place is. On this occasion we got that wrong.

Nice place with a good view upstairs. It's not going to win any Michelin stars, but nice food (even if they are a bit over keen on soaking half the menu in sweet chilli) at a reasonable price for the area. Made me smile to see chicken Maryland is still going strong!

i had read the bad reviews and was cautious, booked for lunchtime thinking it wouldn’t be as busy and was right, i had chilli flatbread and husband had chicken escalope, both cooked fine, plenty of chips and cold tap water brought to table when asked, staff look a bit scruffy but service ok i could see how it would slow down when very busy but to be fair i have mobility issues and they seated us downstairs without fuss and let my husband sub his drink for coffee. i will try for lunch again sometime.

Speedy service, beautifully cooked and presented dishes very ample portions good value would highly recommend. Would recommend the chilli prawn starter and waffle desert.

To be honest was going to cancel after reading reviews but it was my sons 40th birthday party so decided to go and it was really quite good food was good staff were good as well made us very welcome wee bit to go to...

Was going out for my Birthday meal and booked online and asked nicely for overlooking the sea and not next to the toilets. We arrived and was asked for our reservation and she promptly showed us to a table for two on the bottom floor directly across from the open planned kitchen. I said to the girl that is wasn’t satisfactory and she proceeded to shrug her shoulders and didn’t offer an alternative. I am a lady who is in the throws of menopause and to be offered a table bang next to the kitchen, well I will just leave it there. I have frequented this place for over six years and to be brutal am appalled at the level of service I received. We just left the restaurant walked 100 meters I the road and got a nice table with no booking with sunny on The Coast. The meal there was lovely and will not be back to Tides!!!!!!

Usual love this place! Go 3/4 times when we come up. Food was very disappointing this visit! Changed the flat bread to a puffy lump! Which was like a bap with slits cut in it with a bit off garlic butter! Could make it at home! The chicken used to be fresh and coated the taste was class. On this visit it was dry and defo not fresh! Noodles were dry! Didn't seem to have ny senior staff on!

My wife had chicken Mayland when she cut into it it looked under cooked. For desert she asked for fruit salade. A plate of orange, Apple, lemon, lime slices came as a fruit salade. Don't think this is a fresh fruit salads

Beautiful place, delicious food and very friendly and nice staff. Wonderful views. It is really a good experience and excellent choice from my trip to Portrush and Portstewart.

Not having been to the tides in quite a while a return was very much so a good idea. The staff are very helpful I must say but the food was unfortunately mediocre at best.
