Stumbled upon this pub while exploring Lancaster. Slightly out of the centre of the town centre so easy to miss. Pub had a good selection of cask and keg beers. Food was very reasonably priced and portions were generous. The homemade chips were amazing and worth the visit alone. Staff also very friendly and accommodating.

First time we had been in this pub and definitely won't be the last. Very busy but managed to get a table. Ordered Lancashire hot pot and it was delicious. Very friendly bar staff as well.

Great building and I’d come here again for a drink for sure. Problem is that the meal is made of some cheap ingredients. Very fatty and chewy unfortunately. Prices are quite cheap though so I guess that’s what you get!

Gorgeous, slightly off the main streets and not jam packed on a Saturday night. Fully booked for food, but a fantastic assortment of beers.

Visited today with my son and mum. A lovely find with lovely food. The hotpot was delicious and service was friendly and efficient - highly recommend. Gorgeous building too.

I have to start with the bad. We had reserved a table, however whilst at the bar a few walks in did come in. They were greated with a very rude bar lady, who stated 'I am not doing food for walk in's today' in a very unpleasant attitude. I thought it was very rude to speak to someone like that. If I hadn't ordered my drinks, I would of left and so would of the gentleman next to me. No surprise the walk in's left without ordering drinks. Even if you weren't serving food to them, a little respect goes a long way. Even a simple 'Hi, sorry just to let you know we aren't doing food for walk in's today. You are more than welcome to order a drink though'. I would like to add I did see big time gaps between tables being reserved.... Very expensive for the quality of the good and service. I Wouldn't recommend...

Good beer, good food great staff.

This is one of the best pubs in Lancaster. We have been here a few times and this time we stayed for a meal. The food was excellent and there is a great atmosphere throughout the whole pub. Not the pubs fault, but if you are driving, there is limited parking close by due to the Q-Park car park being closed. Highly recommended though.

We nipped in here after Google directed us to a dog friendly restaurant...what luck that was. My husband loves pies, and was chuffed to bits with his beef and ale pie which was massive, and filled with soft, tasty meat. I had the chilli burger, which was delicious. The chilli added a nice kick, and the chips were more like skin on wedges. A fantastic meal for a great price, in an ancient, historic pub.

Have been here a few times since the refurbishment. Absolutely beautiful pub. Staff can’t do enough for you. My partner had steak on this visit which was cooked to perfection. I had the hot pot with red cabbage and bread. Definitely recommend this. It is delicious.

After booking a table for 9 people and more joining us, I was super impressed that all meals arrived at the same time, a very rare thing now. The hotpot is absolutely fabulous I'd very much recommend it. Very flavoursome rich gravy with tender lamb. They always have an excellent selection of ales too with friendly welcoming bar staff. I will always feel at home in this traditional style inn.

A great little pub on the edge of town, close to the castle. Recently refurbished and an excellent job they did too. Really friendly staff, good selection of drinks and generously portioned food offering. An absolute must for anyone visiting Lancaster, local or tourist.

We visited the Three Mariners for dinner on NYE on the off chance they could seat us (our plans to be abroad had changed at the last minute) and we were lucky enough to get the 1 free table. It's clealy a popular place and we found out why. The food was absolutely delicious 😋 There was so much for your money as well, and it was all cooked perfectly despite there being a plateful. My partner had the chicken and beef roast and I had the fish & chips. Staff were friendly and attentive despite being very busy. Would highly recommend!

Traditional old historic pub, the oldest in Lancaster. Plenty of real ales and excellent pub grub. Live folk music and nice staff. The pub has been taken over 3 times in the past 2 years, The mens toilets were a bit smelly last time I was in.

We seek this hostelry out each time we visit. It has loads of character, a range of interesting ales from across the country and also a range of interesting and friendly customers. We don't have dogs ourselves but enjoy meeting the various canines who drop in with their humans. The food looks good, although we have not dined here. In truth we aren't sure about the gluten free options for those visiting - reliable feedback on this score would be great. Certainly worthy of putting on your list if visiting Lancaster. It's not too far from the centre.

Fantastic ....food .....beers and wine ...atmosphere awesome ....friendly staff love it here thus is our fourth visit will definitely be back . We have been with friends couples and just us two never disappoints....try them out xxxx

Lovely place, worth seeking out. Usually lovely dogs. Wine is good, limited beer selection after a festive run in it, but fair, what my husband had he enjoyed....

Brief visit but not disappointed. We nipped in for food, ordered ham egg n chips which was plentiful and a Lancashire hotpot which was lovely. All reasonable priced. Only shame was that the open fires weren't lit to make a cosier atmosphere

We always pay this pub a visit when in Lancaster. The staff are always welcoming and helpful. Great range of ales and a good atmosphere. Dog friendly too. Highly recommended and it's not so far out of the centre.

Not visited the place for a while it has been refurbished since I was last in there and it looks fab and still very cozy. Great selection of ales and other beers,I had the buttermilk chicken burger and it was very tasty chunky chips were amazing,my partner had the steak,cooked to perfection and nice salad.2 drinks and 2 meals £31.. worth every penny.. Very friendly staff..10/10

Atmospheric Pub with friendly attentive staff and a magnificent selection of beers and cider at the bar. Like many pubs, when asked they were unable to offer a single soft drink without any artificial sweeteners. Main courses were generous portions and tasty. Condiments were slightly confusing with the black pepper on offer out of a second matching salt pot. Sadly our meal came to a premature end as our favourite desert choice had run out and the coffee machine had also unfortunately broken. Looking forward to calling again one day when everything is up to speed.

We had a Christmas lunch & pudding here on Thursday, great range of ales, the Luna stout was excellent. The lady who served was polite. The Christmas lunch & pud where all very nice and the clean plates showed this.

Every time we visit Lancaster we are never disappointed when we visit The Three Mariners. A warm, cosy, friendly pub. Whether you choose food or drinks expect a great experience. In the photos are Hunters chicken with chips and seasonal veg and the mixed grill.

We often call in here and love it. The recent refurb has really improved it and the food and staff are as amazing as ever. The portions are huge and it’s good quality, home cooked food. The hotpot and pie are favourites of ours but the Sunday dinner in particular cannot be beaten. If you’ve never been before, you’re missing a real hidden gem!

Prebooked Sunday roast. Arrived. Barmaid couldn't care less. No red wine. Then said beef is well done. Then added actually no roast dinners, no apologies, couldn't care less attitude.Why would you employ someone like this.What an impression.Awful experience.

Took our parents here when they came to visit from down south. We have lived in Lancaster for a few years and had been before for drinks and loved the atmosphere. We ordered at the bar and paid, when the food arrived (after a short wait which I was impressed by) it was cold, the plate felt like it had come out of the fridge it was ice cold and the pie and vegetables were freezing. We asked the waitress (who was the only server in the entire pub doing everything) if she wouldn’t mind warming it up or just putting it all in the microwave to which she replied she couldn’t as the microwave was being used, but she took it and said she’d go try and warm it up. 5 minutes later she came back with the same plate of food and said “there you go” and walked away, by this point we also had no cutlery so asked if she didn’t mind getting us some so we could all eat. When we felt the veg and plate they were both still cold and it felt like the pie was the only thing that got warmed up but was still not piping hot. We were very confused. I was very disappointed with the quality of the food and it’s just standard practice in any restaurant that the food is served hot. If we hadn’t already paid beforehand I would have refused as the food wasn’t enjoyable. I won’t be returning for food!

Dropped in last night on the off chance we could get something to eat . Staff were very helpful and found us a table near the bar . Not been in before but will definitely call in again . Wonderful atmosphere and brilliant staff . We had 3 starters to share and they could not have been more helpful , extra napkins etc . When the food arrived we were a little overwhelmed at the size , not sure how you would manage one with a main as well but having said that we did manage to polish off all three excellent dishes . Had 2 glasses of white wine to accompany the food which wasn’t bad at all . Have had some house wines that could remove the enamel from your teeth !! Overall a very good experience and one I would recommend.

Travelling out of town and came across this place. Excellent customer service. A really friendly woman who was welcoming. The food is affordable and amazing quality. If you get the chance, go here. Very clean, nicely decorated and cosy and easy calming atmosphere. Had a great lunch.

Excellent food and friendly service. The interior is now beautiful since the recent refurbishment. Love little pub. It’s the oldest pub in Lancaster. Very cosy little tavern which makes you want to sit and drink in front of the fires. Can’t wait to visit again. Chips are 10/10!

What a lovely place and fantastic spot. The drinks choice was fantastic. We even went back that evening for a drink too. The staff were friendly and professional. One young man who worked here that evening gave us some great bars to go too for a later drink. Fantastic spot next to the castle too.

Didn’t have food, only popped in for a pint but the bartender complimented my belt which was really cute and they were so welcoming. They gave me a suggestion for a pint of the cherry cider which was a fab recommendation. Will deffo come again x

Booked for lunch, all our food was delicious and presented well. We also thought it was great value. Steak & chips, ploughmans platter and pulled pork all great. Chips were fabulous. Staff were friendly and helpful. Pub was quiet when we visited. Only negative aspect...

Went for a quiet pub dinner with my partner. Really nice atmosphere, not too loud but decent music and a good crowd. Service was excellent and really quick as well. Food was delicious, perfectly cooked and seasoned and particularly good portion sizes for the price...

Great old pub! The food is fabulous and they have a great selection of ales. The staff are also fantastic. It's great to go to an old pub and have a good old banter with the lovely bar staff, it is something that's missing today, but that The Threw Mariners have. They have a beer garden not too far from the main road, but the atmosphere makes you feel miles away!!

The manager was friendly and pleasant, but having seen the rave food reviews, we were very surprised at the quality of the food. We wouldn't recommend.

What a friendly and lovely pub. The Irish barmaid was attentive and friendly and really made the visit worthwhile. She couldn't do enough for us, during our visit. I tried a variety of the great craft beers on offer and we also had food. The chicken roast dinner was excellent, as was the burger with cheese and bacon, which came with delicious home made chips, and coleslaw. Great food...great service...great beer. A must visit if you're in Lancaster.

Super pub food in old pub. Good selection of traditional and craft beers as well as wines and coffee. Staff were friendly and very efficient. The pie and mash and the gammon egg and chips were smashing. Some of the best mash ever !

Unfortunately was smelly inside so we sat outside. Food mediocre but on the expensive end, chips all soggy! Nothing else around so we really didn't have a choice. Helpful lady at the till but I wouldn't recommend.

Freshly cooked Sunday roast dinner. I had roast beef it came with carrots, cauliflower cheese, stuffing, broccoli, roast potatoes and Yorkshire pudding it was delicious yum yum Staff were super friendly and helpful they brought a water bowl out for our dog. Would highly recommend...

The pub is a beautiful building with a wonderful proper pub atmosphere. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming especially the bar staff, who went out of their way for us for our meal ( going out specially for brown bread and happy for us to choose from the evening menu at lunch ) we enjoyed our lunch which we didn't have to wait long for.

This is the oldest pub in Lancaster and I try to visit the oldest pub in each place we visit. This one was near to where we were staying and was absolutely fine. We only wanted a quick drink, I had a pint of still...

Had visited previously, maybe 6 years ago, was great then. This time, the pub was generally grubby, tables stick, the basics had been neglected. Food was poor, barman was friendly and the beer was good

Lovely pub, we chose as it had good reviews, our food was really lovely, I had home cooked chicken and mushroom pie, with homemade chips, my husband gammon, mu noece chicken nuggets all really lovely, stafg very friemdly & polite, was very impressed & would.highly recommended a visit, parking is in a nearby multi-storey car park.

Very expensive Sunday Roast served in roasting tin. Frozen roast potatoes, plastic cheese on the cauliflower cheese. Looked like deep fried chicken, didn't see any beef. The hottest part of the meal was the gravy and horseradish sauce. £15.00 for frozen food , its a no no no

We had one of the special burgers and it was very filling but very nice. When we left we were stuffed. Good value for money food. The staff were very nice.

Best fish and chips I had in England or possibly ever. Wonderful visit, staff friendly. One of the customers gave a the history of the property. A fantastic way to spend a rainy afternoon

It's a very honest pub. Traditional drinks and food with excellent, friendly staff in quite a tired building.

Food was awful. Five of us went for dinner there. Two dinners had hair in them and one had to be sent back as it was stone cold. No one came to see if everything was ok and when we complained to the manager he wasn't interested. Definitely won't be going back there again.

We enjoyed this pub following a recommendation from the Wagon and Horses landlord who weren't doing food that lunchtime. I did think that the fish was a bit on the small side, especially as it was a £14 portion. The lady behind the bar (from Liverpool) was very welcoming and friendly.
