CUSTOMERS TALK ABOUT DISHES WITH.. coffee

The fact that this cafe is giving people chances to work they would not have got otherwise is heart warming. Food and drinks are lovely and service is usually friendly. My only issue would be that the few times I've been in, some staff have a strong smell of smoke clinging to their clothes. Perhaps this is something management could address to make this a five star review

Got a takeaway americano from this place. The barista clearly did not know what she was doing and was asking another employee how to make it. Took around 5 mins to make it even though I was the only person in the shop at the time. The coffee was tasted like watery tea. I asked how many shot of coffee were in it as it tastes weak and was sharply advised that there was indeed 2 shots. Would not recommend for good coffee, the tray bake was tasty.

We have now been to this cafe twice and would recommend it to anyone looking for a quieter place to relax as it does not seem to be as busy as some of the other cafes on the Lisburn Road. On the first visit about two months ago we ordered two toasted sandwiches and two lattes. The toasties were the best I have had in any cafe - lovely thick toasted bread and really good fillings. We had our second visit today (10/9/16) with our son and daughter for his 20th birthday. I had bacon and scrambled egg - the bacon was very tasty - got 3 small slices and the egg cooked to perfection. My daughter had pancakes and bacon and really enjoyed it. My wife had a ham omolette and enjoyed it but could not finish it. My son had the fry - the sausage was beef only and there was no potato or soda bread on the menu - our only gripe. My daughter and son both had a smoothy and enjoyed it. The cafe is a social enterprise and because we brought over several books for their second hand book shop we got our two lattes free - and they were good cups of coffee. Visit and support a well worthwhile cause.

Can't help but return here on a weekly, sometimes daily basis as coffee, especially cappuccino is best I have ever tasted. Fresh, wholesome food consistently cooked to perfection. Especially love the soup and wheaten bread for a quick lunch. The scrambled egg and bacon on bagel with spinach or with granary toast hit the spot when I have more time to enjoy a leisurely lunch. Lots of delicious cake and treats too.Staff are friendly and give great service. Keenly priced with free Wi-Fi, it's the perfect place to eat and relax. Upstairs you can browse the 'book reserve' selection of donated books and buy if desired with proceeds going to help young 'at risk' parents. Good selection of children's books too.Enjoy while contributing to a worthy social enterprise for our young adults.Student discount too!

My wife, 10 month old son and I visited The Thinking Cup for the first time this morning, finding a rare 40 minute window of opportunity to have breakfast together after dropping our other two kids off at school. It didn't quite go to plan. Despite only a few other customers there at the time (9.30am Monday) service was abysmal. We ordered two coffees and the French toast special (with bananas and maple syrup) to share, then took a seat. After ten minutes, coffees arrived, with an apology for the delay. Thankfully these were fantastic coffees, wonderful flavour and perfect temp. After a further 20 mins, French toast arrived, with no apology, no bananas and no maple syrup. I immediately flagged this up, and the young waiter promised to rectify asap. Ten minutes later, nothing more had arrived and we had to leave, speechless. I decided against stating the obvious to the staff. Most disappointing service, hopefully a one-off, as ambience and coffee major positives.

Upstairs are shelves of books to browse and buy whilst leisurely drinking coffeeThere's venue space available to rent in the evening.I have to say the counter staff member who served me was very friendly- helpful and on the ball but The Thinking Cup needs more thought and an injection of personality if it's to become a viable and sustainable enterprise. There is no atmosphere. It needs to decide what it is and brand itself. It could start to be the best independent coffee shop in Belfast and start selling good coffee. Specialise in good home baking baked. Music. Sofas. We love sofas. Newspapers, magazines... Utilise the window space for a proper customer feel good sit down area whilst at the same time advertising to the outside world it's a popular venue.Think Think Think.... I think I will just watch this space and hope they get creative and proactive and rescue a great concept.

I wanted to try The Thinking Cup for ages because it looked cosy and I love the idea of a social enterprise. I went in on a Sunday afternoon - ordered a chai latte, they were out of chai. Ordered soup of the day, they were out of soup. So I settled for a tea and a sandwich. I ordered the sandwich on Sourdough and it came on an olive bread that definitely wasn't sourdough and generally left a lot to be desired. The bread was cut too thick, making it impossible to eat as a sandwich, I wasn't provided a napkin or any cutlery. As I was working from the cafe, I then ordered another drink. I requested a hot chocolate - they were out of milk hot choc powder, so could only offer dark. That was fine, I paid for it and returned to my table and the drink wasn't made after 15 minutes. I went up and asked about it and the girl who had been making drinks seemed to have no idea that it had been ordered! The hot chocolate finally came, and I have to say, it was lovely. Unfortunately it wasn't enough to redeem The Thinking Cup after the series of problems I had there and I won't be returning. Disappointing as there is so much potential!

Yep, upstairs there is a collection of second-hand books and a place called the Book Reserve. It is a start-up which is working to support young parents and train them in developing their skills.
