Went for lunch really friendly and extra dog friendly! Dogs can go inside as well as outside! Great menu with lots of local fish and produce. Cullen Skink was delicious! I was impressed they offered the 'Whisky Menu' at lunch but I had to decline!

Service too good as food arrived very shortly after ordering which didn't bode well. Ordered fish & chips which consisted of 2 very small fish and "frozen" chips. Only OK and not value for money at £13.50. Table next to ladies toilet and hand dryer so loud couldn't hear each other speak. Good covid arrangements but overpriced. Wouldn't recommend and won't be going back.

Visited here on a beautiful sunny day and had a lovely lunch outside with our wee dog. Service was fantastic and very fast considering they were very busy. Waitresses were very efficient at serving and greeting customers so really impressed. The reason I’ve given 4, not 5 star is the prices. It’s pretty expensive for what you get. Don’t get me wrong the food and drink is lovely but for for example a average slice of cheesecake was almost £7.00 with no extras, fish and chips was almost £14.00. We found this pretty overpriced but may be comparable to other places in Mallaig but not sure.

We recently visited Mallaig and enjoyed our first meal here so much we went back again twice. The location is great, right in the centre of town overlooking the harbour, and close to parking/ferry/train station. Head in early if you are going for lunch, as this place is popular with the steam train passengers who come for lunch around 12.15 and fills up quickly, even in October. Service is good, quick and unobtrusive.Lots of choice for lunch, with additional specials on the board each day. We had the ham and lentil soup and the prawn rolls, both excellent. Great coffee and cakes too!We stopped by for breakfast one day, it was much quieter until around 10 when it filled up again pretty quickly. Bacon roll was delicious and perfectly cooked. There is the option of outdoor seating, although it was raining each time we visited, we preferred to stay indoors. We'll definitely be back!

We stopped by for a late lunch on a quick visit to Mallaig. The cafe has a lovely location overlooking the harbour and is cute and cosy inside, with a lovely terrace for those hardy all-weather types. The menu is pretty extensive, although it was disappointing that we weren't told that neither lobster nor prawns were available until we'd sat down. The food was fine, perfectly edible, but we thought they could have done a better job with such lovely seafood ingredients.

Situated in the centre of this not so picturesque harbour town. The tea garden offers some very fine lunch choices. We shared excellent Coronation Chicken and Egg Mayo sandwiches with salad garnish and copious amounts of tea. A lovely terrace table allowed us to watch the world go by as we ate in this very busy town. It was an unusually beautiful weather day for so late in the season. Mallaig has a nice enough harbour but is too industrial to be pretty which is a shame considering the beauty of the area which surrounds it. Worth a few hours including a lunch visit to this excellent cafe.

We arrived in Mallaig at 2:30 pm when other lunch places were closing and the Tea Garden cafe welcomed us in. We had 3 orders of fish and chips - 2 adult portions and one kids meal. The kids portion was half the price and still a good sized meal. The fish was absolutely delicious and cooked to perfection. It was enjoyed thoroughly by all of us. We had fish and chip, and the fish was delicious. It was fairly busy when we visited, but other places weren't open and it was raining so most people were trying to find shelter! Downside is that it is very overpriced and we ended up on a table near the owners/managers(?) who were also eating and it was a fairly uncomfortable place to sit (they were not very welcoming and managing the waiting staff from sitting down). Not quite seasoned to my taste and no salt/pepper available on tables, staff didn't offer it before disappearing so no way of getting any. Soup comes with fresh chunky bread which was quite tasty. Came to visit the cafe today after walking around Mallaig. Sat down and began giving our order to the waitress only to then be informed after we had told the waitress our full order that we weren’t allowed to sit in and just have coffee and cake, we would have to order something off the lunch menu to be able to dine in. We were not informed of this prior to sitting down. We also didn’t understand the reason for this - is it just to encourage us to spend more money? With the weather being a bit rubbish today, we decided to order hot teas to go so we sat waiting at the table for our these to be made. We were then asked by another waitress, if we were eating in and after informing her we were waiting on the teas we had ordered, we were then abruptly asked by her to move from the table to let other customers sit down. Not only that, given the current COVID-19 pandemic, there seemed to be no appropriate system in place for manning the doors and/or a suitable in-out system despite having what appears to be two entrances to the cafe. Not a welcome visit to our relaxing short trip away today.

The Tea Garden Cafe is virtually the first eatery you come to on alighting the train. It serves good soup (lentil and ham & Cullen skink) and delicious bread. But the good food is undercut by the notices (Tables shared in busy times) and 'Don't eat your own food' and 'Pay when ordering'; the latter not enforced) that projected a somewhat customer-unfriendly vibe. This unpleasantness was reinforced when the waitress (otherwise friendly) tried to serve us bottled water when we asked for tap water and then tried to charge us for bottled water anyway. So, attempted rip-off v good soup = average.

Called in while waiting for the ferry at Mallaig, food was delicious and we were served in the fastest time ever for a cafe, we had literally just ordered when our food was put in front of us. Excellent!

I visited with my parents, looking for a snack. They were pleasantly surprised by the sandwich fillings - plenty of it and tasty. I, however, had the ploughman’s lunch. It was a rather sad effort I’m afraid. Sweaty cheddar, a small metal dish of English mustard (for the ham which was actually quite delicious), a bit of salad, a very thin half-slice of brown bread and a couple of oatcakes. And NO PICKLE!! How can you serve a ploughman’s without pickle? Had this been spot on you would have received 4 stars as the rest of the food on the table looked delicious and the service was great. All staff were really friendly and helpful. I’m sure we will be back when we next visit.

Stopped in here after getting off of the train before hitting Skye. The seafood was okay and the service was decent; nothing outstanding but good for a light snack before heading on.

I stopped by based on a blog post about their pint of prawns and wasn't disappointed. While I wasn't quite able to finish the full pint of prawns, they were delicious and came with a bit of salad and a lovely slice of bread. Staff was friendly and helpful, and the tea was perfect for a slightly rainy day.

Okay eatery in popular tourist location. You pay up front. Food and service was okay but nothing to get excited about

We came here for dinner with friends. We placed an order for 3 starters and 3 main courses however was surprised when all 6 meals arrived at the same time. We ended up having to eat the main course first. We were never asked if we wanted any sauces with our meal and no one came over to ask if everything was okay. I appreciate it was busy but the customer service could’ve been better. The food was good though!

I went there for a cup of tea and a scone only to be told I needed to order something else. I was then asked to change tables (I was already sitting at a table for two) to accomodate other people. I was then rushed to order something, eat it then leave. I brought my concerns up with a waitress and she wouldn’t even look me in the eye when listening to me. If I’d known it bothered them so much that I was by myself I would have just eaten fish and chips on the pier. Very inconsiderate

Popped in for some hot chocolates (4 of us) ...would probably have ordered cake too but were told it was lunchtime so had to have food or we would have to leave so we left!!! Just to clarify it’s a ‘backpackers cafe’, a cafe not a fancy restaurant. It was pretty much empty and there were a million places to sit... it has totally put me off going there again despite holidaying here every year. Very disappointing.

In Mallaig there are no more option so if you wait for your ferry this will be one of the very few options. Seating and location is perfect however food quality is bad. You feel the taste like they bought the cakes from supermarket...Tea was good as well as the selection, however avoid ordering "Delux" hot chocolate with cream, it is just disgusting water with choco powder and chemical foam. In regards to the service, our experience was more negative than positive, overlooking, not asking if we need something...they work as messengers bring your order, pay and get out.

Recently ate here whilst stopped on the Jacobite steam train journey. Cafe was packed due to a full train stopping, we sat in the outside seating area under a heat lamp. We had a sandwich and chips, both were nice but nothing outstanding. The meal was slightly overpriced for what it was but this is to be expected in a tourist destination.

Came across the Tea Garden while walking around Mallaig. Lovely Crab Sandwiches. Because I was driving, just sampled the non-alcoholic beers. Service was both attentive and friendly. Steady turnover of customers handled well by speedy clearing and cleaning of tables. Strongly recommended if you're in the area.

Sat outside in the sunshine with our two dogs at this lovely cafe, great place to relax and watch the world go by. My husband ordered a cheese sandwich and a latte, I had the herring and a cheeky latte with Drambuie. The service was incredibly quick and they even bought out a bowl of water for our dogs.

Only didn't give 5 stars as you think with a cafe if you just want tea and coffee that would be OK if over lunchtime, but there's a big sign up. We were there about 1.50pm and there were empty tables so might have been OK but the large sign by the steps I felt was very unwelcoming and put us off

Stopped at the new Centre enroute to Aviemore to visit family. First time we've been there for over a year due to lockdown etc. This was our first coffee and meal out since Pandemic started and we thoroughly enjoyed it. It was great to see it rebuilt since the fire and everything was just right! Food and drink was excellent, as was the service and it was a joy to sit outside in the sun. Will definitely be returning, next time we head to Aviemore.

We toured Scotland for eight nights and this place turned out to be the very best. Five stars all round - very friendly staff, help with our suitcases up the stairs, lovely big room with a huge shower, very clean, a comfortable bed and very quiet despite being a local eating house. Little extras in the bedroom in the way of tea and coffee facilities and toiletries. There was nothing that they couldn't do for us and we were very impressed. The meal in the evening was superb and we enjoyed every mouthful. The service was exceptional and the atmosphere in the dining room just great. Thank you for a memorable stay Allangrange. We hope you go from strength to strength.

Finally visited this pub which friends of mine rave about. Picked the wettest day of the year and arrived drenched, but soon dried out. Lovely wee old-fashioned pub full of friendly locals. Unfortunately the kitchen was closed for unspecified reasons, but the atmosphere made up for it. Barman knew his job, very approachable. Hopefully be able to try the food on my next visit.

Stopped off during our trip around the NC500 off season. We were greeted by a lovely woman who was very friendly. The food was really really good! After we were given our food, we didn't see any staff for a long time. There were no lights on so we had to use our phone torches to find the toilets. The sauce packets provided at the meal were months out of date, and when we finally wanted to pay, the staff member was on a face time call with someone the entire time we were by the bar paying. Undecided whether we'll visit again, although the food was really nice!
