The Taste of Bengal in Croydon

A pleaseant discovery on a week night. The service is good, the food is delicious. A place you want to try for very good and fresh indian food if you live in the area Purley, South Croydon, Purley Oaks and Sanderstead but also from further away as it's easy to find a parking place around there. Update: a few days later we also ordered take-away dinner calling directly the restaurant landline as we are living close by and it was as delicious as dining in. Good portions and very well packed. Very good customer service when we called to place the order. Update: We came back for dinner after 4 months and it was as pleasant as the first time, delicious food and impeccable service. 5 stars again all the way!

Food, atmosphere and service was all amazing!! We ate too much and could eat there every day 😍 on wednesdays they have 4 course meal for £15 pp….definitely we’ll be back…

I recently dined at this restaurant, it was blown away by delicious food and good service by the staff members. I highly recommend chicken tikka masala, Naan Bread and egg rice and we can get both mild and spicy food also. I will be definitely coming back to this restaurant in the future.

This was the first time i visited this restaurant the staffs were very kind and friendly. This is one of the best spot to spend time with your family and friends. You definitely get a wonderful experience. The foods are very delicious. They have many variety of dishes both in vegetarian and non veg.

as promised when my son and I came last night for a hearty curry and other dishes - We were warmly welcomed when we went in and shown to our seats. Our order was taken and within a couple of mins a plate of poppadoms with a selection of dips were presented to us 'on the house'. Before we finished it our food was read. Piping hot they were placed beautifully on our table. The hot food was placed on a hot plate which came in handy as we'd just come in from the freezing cold outside. We order lamb curry, spinach and lentil curry, paneer curry, tangy lemon lamb curry, 2 nans and a plate of rice. Every dish was seasoned to perfection, the lamb was tender and cooked beautifully. The paneer was soft and juicy and the lentils with spinach was amazingly comforting and filling and I honestly couldn't get enough of the hot nan bread and well made rice. The portions were very generous, the food was very, very tasty, the waiter was charming and kept topping up our jug of water with lemon slices at every opportunity. This little gem of a place deserves every positive praise and if i could give it more stars I would without any hesitation. Thank you for the experience my son and I had last night. aslm alkm

Visited for the first time last night with friends and seated a table of 5 of us in a nicely decorated dining area which was clean, tidy and good ambience. The welcome on arrival was a very good customer experience with a friendly, personable and attentive team. The poppadoms, drinks and speed of service was perfect providing a decent opportunity to catch-up with friends and chat, without being rushed or waiting for anything - really well done. The mains were absolutely phenomenal. I had the Chicken Garlic Chilli Masala and it was one of the best curry dishes I’ve ever had - absolutely delicious and presented really well too - thank you. Finished off with an ice cream at the end as well, all perfectly done - not rushed to get out the door at the end of the night either, very reasonable prices … will definitely be back, 5 🌟, thank you for making a great night, catching up with friends 👍🏻 🧼 Clean and tidy 🙋🏻‍♂️ Friendly staff 🍽️ Awesome food 🤵🏻‍♂️ Fantastic customer service

Brilliant food and service. Always very attentive and helpful, putting any leftovers in dishes for us to take home. We have our favourite dishes here and keep coming back! Great aircon in summer (even heatwave week) and now nice and warm for the winter!

What a little gem in South Croydon. Food was brilliant, clean and inviting decor and a warm welcome. We have been before with the family but will now definitely come again although we dont live in the area.

Considering the price and free delivery, I don't have any regrets. But the food just wasn't good. I've had many different butter chickens and egg fried rice, but this was the first time I haven't been able to recognise what I'm eating. It was edible but I won't be getting it again... Maybe in a year.

Nice food here. I ordered the Lamb Biryiani and Lamb Tikka. Reason for 4 stars instead of 5, comparing to other takeaways where I've had biryiani, this one had some bits in the food that were not edible, I'm not sure what it was but it was black bits and it was mixed into the biryiani so a couple bites it was like pulling out bones.

The food was excellent with a friendly and warm welcome, service was quick and it’s situated in a daily convenient spot with some good parking spots, definitely recommend it for the locals or anyone that wants some tasty curry. 👍🏽

The most un appealing food in uk Everything is so oily - Everything deep red - rice byriani useless and tasteless Lamb tasteless - butter kitchen worst How can they still be opened ? Can the chef go training at Mirch Masala —- sad …. Wasted money …. Who gave 5 stars for this place ?

Amazing food we ordered a takeaway it came very efficiently and was absolutely delicious it was piping hot and the food was outstanding. We use this curry house on a regular basis and are never disappointed. This restaurant is absolutely fantastic.

a large group of us went last night for a birthday. the staff were very friendly and attentive and were regularly coming back to check if there was anything we needed. we had a lovely two course meal and everyone very much enjoyed their food. we got a wide range of different dishes and they were all brilliant. when we arrived they asked if we were there for a special occasion and because we said it was a birthday, they surprised us at the end of our meal with a cake and some candles at no cost to us! this was a lovely touch and showed how much they care about their service. great food which tastes lovely and fresh. great atmosphere and fantastic staff. would definitely recommend this place to anybody be it a couple or a large group!

We were regular customers of this restaurant, unfortunately food has gone downhill and attitude of the Manager Mr. Ali is even worse. Hygiene in the Kitchen very poor.

Very friendly Host and staff. Our family have been eating in or taking away for many many years and never been disappointed with the flavours of the dishes and the service is always cheerful and prompt. A lovely place to eat and now has air conditioning.

This was one of the tastiest curry's myself and my family have had in a long time. We ordered a range of curries including chicken, lamb and prawn and they were all delicious and cooked perfectly. The starters were delicious and the bread was very tasty. Would 100% recommend. Also the customer service is amazing. Called up to order and then called again to ask what time to collect (forgot to ask the first time). They knew me by name and were very kind. Great service when going into the shop and very covid safe.

Warm, friendly small place with a good menu with classics and few unusual items. Food is well prepared and good value. Very tasty, good size portions and no skimping on meat. Ask for Ali, he treats everyone as an old friend.

We've been to this restaurant with friends before and decided to go for a curry as a couple. The food was really tasty and the service was friendly. It was a bit quiet but I guess that's post-lockdown. We will definitely visit again.

Dined at Taste of Bengal for the first time ever this evening and I have nothing but good things to say. The food was amazing, so flavoursome! Papadoms were offered whilst we decided on our mains and came out warm which was nice. I had a Badshahi Chicken and the Mr had a Chicken Tikka Masala, both had generous amounts of chicken. Sides included the best saag aloo I've had in ages, onion bhaji and garlic naan. Server (didn't catch his name sorry) closed with "we hope to see you again regularly, you'll always be very welcome" such a warm an friendly service. 100% recommend and will definitely be visiting again/ getting take away. Have driven past this restaurant many many times and it has always been empty ! So I decided to try it out as wanting to find a venue for work Christmas party ( I believe in forward planning . Ordered prawn curry which was totally tasteless , and I mean tasted like prawns in a tomato sauce , I wouldn’t have known I was supposedly eating curry .. Quite a wait despite we at that point only customer in there , and food was warm definitely not cooked fresh ( as we were told twice that’s why delay) The food was nothing to shout out about compared to the smaller sanderstead tandoori two doors up .. Would I return and give it second chance ..... Nope would not waste my time

This is NOT a Indian or Pakistani restaurant, this is run by Bangladeshis who's national dish is Fish and Rice. If you want anything BUT Fish and Rice I would not visit this place, might aswell go to a real Indian/Pakistani place that actually cook the food they are selling you at home. This lot have a selection of badly done curry's, their starter PLATTER is a joke, I mean how stupid do you have to be to call a SMALL PLATE a PLATTER and then put 1 sickly onion bhaji, one tiny samosa and half a sheek kebab on it and then call it a PLATTER. The manager or restaurant owner knows he sells very poor quality food but is too delusional to realize and will actually come up to you to ask how much of a great experience you may(not) be having. Avoid at all costs, back in Bangladesh they would burn this place down.

Another place I have been going to for longer than I care to think about. The owner Liakat and his team deliver great quality food and service on every occasion I have been there. The restaurant has to be on its toes as it is only 30 feet away from another Indian. It is a family friendly business and will cater for all tastes and ages.

Tonight’s takeaway was superb. Couldn’t fault it, so why not a 5* review? Tonight’s offering was totally worth it. We got the good chef tonight. Some takeaways have been very poor, but after tonight we’ll be back.

My friends and I meet once a month for curry. We began by visiting almost every curry restaurant in the area one by one. Now we go nowhere but Taste of Bengal. It is small, cosy and personal service is the norm. Their menu is broad but they will also adapt any dish to the customer's taste. We love it

Okay so to actually sign in to trip adviser to leave a review shows how much of a brilliant experience i had with my family (I am very picky when it comes to restaurants especially one for my sisters birthday). As always, i check the reviews, the menus etc beforehand and it ticked everything so booked the table. When we arrived, we were greeted by a member of staff who was very friendly, who took my name and remembered who i was from our booking call earlier and showed us our table. The service was great and staff were so attentive, the decor was clean, contemporary. Food didn't take so long - I've had Indian food before, this food was DELICIOUS. I had the lamb jalfrezi and other dishes on the table was the king prawn, lamb and chicken madras, seekh kebab, lamb shops and couldn't fault it one bit (even the nan bread was soft) - it was so good value for money - had a really good experience and will definitely will be coming back!! (Free car parking after 5pm).

Ali and his team serve some great tasting curries and are perfect hosts. The Green Bengal lamb is a favourite with a nice heat, but fresh and aromatic at the same time. And the Aubergine Bhaji is very flavoursome, without being smothered in oil like some other restaurants insist of doing. If you're feeling hungry, the Tandoori mixed grill can be recommended too.

First time visiting, really great experience. The restaurant was very busy (Saturday night) however the staff were very attentive and friendly. Excellent food, will come again!

We’ve been coming here several years and it never disappoints. The curries always taste fresh and there’s some different curries on the menu that other places don’t offer. Furthermore if you want something not on the menu or you want more/less spice they are very accommodating. Service is good and the manager seems to know most of his customers which is always a good sign. We have also used Taste of Bengal for catering and they were fantastic. Everyone commented on how good the food was. Lassooni, naga and dhansak are our favourites!!

attentive and friendly staff. New chef and some interesting fish items. I think it is limited for vegetarians. Vegans - I suggest you check first. including a 10% tip a meal for four including drinks came to £95. I found the food unexciting but plesent 4 star food htgine rating so no worries on that account. Very clean - only a cobweb on the down light by the enterance . very handy for Sanderstead rail station. Parking free after 17.00 on residential roads. Recommended.

Visited as a group of four and all of us had a different dish and all of us were delighted with our meal. Unlike a lot of Indians the sauce was not stodgy and thick. One of us had Biryani and said it was the best ever had. The service was excellent and it added to an excellent evening

I'm always a bit sceptical when visiting curry houses (I'm Indian and a good curry cook!) but the food from this restaurant has been consistently good be it a takeaway or when we dine in. Nothing is swimming in oil and the freshness of all the ingredients come through every time. My husband refuses to order from anywhere else and my kids are now ordering from here for their feasts with family and friends. I personally love he tenderness of their lamb dishes. Sublime!

Food was amazing. The Korma was sweet and creamy. Chicken wasn't dry and was moist. The Naan bread was sweet and full of coconut. Edges of it was a bit burnt but, that didn't bother me. The rice was cooked nicely. The whole meal was complimented nicely with the salad provided and the tandoori chicken wings were very good. A bit on the salty side but, where very enjoyable. Will be ordering from here again.

Went here last week and I was very happy with the food, the service and the price. I will be going back. Give it a try, the other curry house on the same strip is too packed like sardines. Give this friendly little place a try.

My family and I have been coming here for years and it has always been a reliable if pretty standard curry house. However something has changed! - They have a new chef and what a difference it makes. This has always been a smart Bengali restaurant with good service and a very attentive manager, but now it serves some of the best curry in the area.
