Came for lunch and it was superb great service great location and staff very good will definitely be coming back

A party of ten of us had a marvellous time on a Saturday evening when we celebrated three birthdays.The service was excellent and the food was even better. The young team there couldn't do enough for us - they did a fantastic job.Four of us stayed over, occupying two of the four rooms on offer. My wife and I stayed in the Oak room - which boasts the four-poster bed as its centrepiece. Lovely room, extremely comfortable bed. Had a great night sleep despite a local Cockerell trying its best to wake us up. Had a nice hearty breakfast before we departed on Sunday morning.We will certainly be returning.

We went for Sunday lunch -,the day was sunny and frosty . The restaurant and pub area was very cold .There is a log fire it was laid up but not a light .We went through to dinning area it was freezing in that room - another customer asked for heating to be put on - it never got put on . The food was fine but we left after the main course. So if you to eat or for a beer wear a couple of jumpers and a pair of gloves

We are regular diners at The Sword Inn Hand. Their Sunday roasts are stunning, and conversely one can eat there on a week night and not be disappointed at all. They also cater for special dietary requirements with ease (as we discovered with a vegan and a gluten free friend we dined there with). We recently visited for a special birthday and Jeremy and his wonderful team looked after us from start to finish. The food was amazing as ever, as was the lovely convivial atmosphere. Everyone absolutely loved it.

I am glad other reviewers had good experiences however my fish and chips were not up to scratch. Fish average but the chips were dry, my local fish and chippy do better. Staff are friendly and welcoming.

We stayed here for 2 nights to attend a wedding in the area. It was an absolute treat! Faultless food, friendly and attentive staff, and great beers! The rooms were cosy and spotlessly clean. We hope to be back next year just to treat ourselves!

After reading an article about the best pub food in Hertfordshire we decided to give The Sword Inn Hand a go. Having a 3 year old we know that sometimes places aren't very accommodating and food isn't to the same quality as the adults' food.This was not the case here.The pub itself is warm and inviting made possible by the friendliness of the staff. We were quickly seated, given menus and our server asked our little one what she wanted to drink first. (As a parent this was a small touch that meant a lot).Each dish was delicious and beautifully presented.The highlight for me was the scallops but the venison and black pudding scotch eggs were also delicious.The pub is dog friendly and we will be back with the dogs in toe after a long walk.Couldn't improve upon the lunch.

We moved into the area a few months ago and this is THE best place we have found. We've been at least 6 times and NEVER has anything been other than perfect. The staff are are lovely and really professional, the place is cosy and has that real old English pub feel to it. The food is some of the best we have ever eaten. Burrata perfect, Fillet steak - exactly right, scallops with veloute and crispy bacon - just amazing, even the Olives were Michelin star. When we went for Sunday lunch we had roast lamb - piled high and cooked just right. You know when a place has got it right the moment you arrive because someone immediately welcomes you and helps you to your table then menu quickly followed by drinks and so on, all with a smile. LOVE IT

The Sword Inn Hand hosted this year's Reunion Lunch. We were accommodated in a lovely side room. The tables were arranged in such a way that we didn't feel squashed in. It had the same cosy ambiance of the main pub. We were able to choose in advance from the main menus. The food was lovely and served just at the right time. The staff were very attentive. They even took our souvenir photo for us so that nobody was left out! It was a great success and, as the organiser of the event, I have had many compliments regarding the venue, food and service. Definitely recommended for party bookings.Thank you to all the Sword Inn Hand team.

Such a lovely pub and restaurant in the beautiful village of Westmill. Great selection of food. Have been here many times now and always well looked after and well fed!

Arrived to the Sword Inn Hand which is in a beautiful village setting, shown to a quaint room where we stayed overnight, everything we needed was there and the rooms had been recently refurbished to a high standard. Dinner was superb and many meals to chose from the menu. Good choice of wines and they even had Pernod...many pubs don’t!A good hearty full English breakfast was served in the morning. All in all a great way to spend my birthday. Well done to Jeremy and all his friendly, professional staff. We’ll be back.

Stayed one night, booked two rooms. Rooms have all you need and lovely and clean. We had dinner in the restaurant, lovely food and superb service from all the staff. Next morning a nice Full English Breakfast and again greated by a happy and helpful member of staff. Great pub with super service, from beginning to end.

The sword inn hand Had a lovely two course meal as a surprise meal for my fathers 70th birthday, the staff couldn’t do enough for us , we bought in our own decorations and cake , they were very friendly and the food was lovely, we all had a different roast of pork, turkey, beef and veggies which was a nut roast all very good , there was a lot of meat on the plates , after the meal I gave the nod and they brought out the cake candles an all and even joined in with the singing happy birthday, definitely will be returning well done to all the staff and the chefs , thumbs up from us

We were a group of nine friends and everyone really enjoyed themselvesWe had travelled a way in our mini-bus and it was well worth itStaff were attentive and food was deliciousI personally can say the scollops are a pure delight and the venison wellingtondelicious particularly the wonderful potato accompaniment. I ended with the cheesewhich was great although missing a few grapesEven the shiraz was one of the smoothest I have tasted

Everything seems to be right. Charming village, very friendly staff, traditional village pub in excellent condition, even very good loos!We ate in the garden which is nicely done.So why not 5/5. very simply the food was no where near the standard of everything else. First, the menu is a bit dull. Even this I can forgive if the food is very good but its not. Time for a new chef I would say.Interestingly my duaghter was here a few days previously and said pretty much that she and her family shared a more or less identical experience.

We have visited The Sword Inn Hand on a number of occasions for family dinners and lunches; most recently today for dinner with our two children and my parents. The village and pub make for a beautiful setting and the food and service are equally as impressive. Lovely varied menu to cater for different tastes. Great children’s options. Seriously good dessert menu too. The service is also really attentive. I love that it is a consistently great pub. Highly recommend whether it’s for a couples date night or family lunch!

If we could we would eat here every day. A beautiful location, followed by great service and food to die for. A great wine selection with an ambience to match.

Thank you Jeremy and the team for providing such wonderful fresh food, despite being dairy, egg and gluten free. All the food is cooked fresh on the day and you can taste the quality. My friend and I sat outside last weekend. it was a glorious day, Despite being the furthers table away from the main building, all staff were wonderful and full of smiles, despite my many menu questions, which they had to keep checking. The drinks too was very good quality. Visiting a client in rural Hertfordshire and he took me for lunch to the Sword Inn Hand. What a magnificent rural setting and despite it being a Tuesday lunchtime, we just secured the last available table. My expectations for the food were high at that point.I had the prawns to start and they were delightful, unfortunately the seabass was finished but the broccoli and chicken pie was immense. No room for pudding after that lunchtime feast. A really stunning eatery within a very quaint Hertfordshire village. Would highly recommend to anyone dining or visiting the area. Hope to be back, but will remember to book next time.

We visited The Sword in Hand for our wedding anniversary lunch. From beginning to end the service was very good and staff were attentive. We both opted for a Sunday roast (pork and lamb) and were impressed by the quality and quantity of the food, including a good selection of fresh vegetables. My husband enjoyed the cheese plate, choosing from a varied selection, and I had a delicious white chocolate mousse for dessert. Although the prices are at the upper end for local Sunday lunches, the package of good food, excellent service and a relaxing ambience made it feel like good value for money.

I have been to the restaurant a few times and on booking for this group of 26 was definitely not disappointed in any way. The food was amazing, the staff so helpful and friendly - I couldn't fault anything!

We had a wonderful meal here. They were so good with my gluten & dairy free diet. I was very excited to get a Yorkshire pudding and a dessert that wasn’t fruit! The crumble was more like a cake and was amazing! It’s rare to find somewhere that caters for both gluten and dairy free and not just gluten free! Everyone else had a lovely roast as usual. The new decoration is also really nice and fresh!

My chosen starter of salmon was fit for a London Michelin star restaurant. Main of ham and chips perfect comfort food. This place is a gem. Staff assertive and friendly with a front of house manager that greeted us and made sure our visit was special. My sons fillet steak cooked to perfection and a quality cut.

My husband and I visited the Sword Inn Hand previously with family members and loved it. My mum has now recently moved into the area and so what better place to take her for her 84th birthday - it didn't disappoint! On her first restaurant visit in over a year due to the pandemic she had a lovely time. The kind staff placed a birthday card on the table and a candle in her dessert and they were so attentive throughout the meal. The food was wonderful with the Prawn & Crayfish salad being a real hit. Very reasonably priced, this is definitely our go to place on our future visits to Buntingford. Thank you!

What an absolute gem of a restaurant, nestled away in the most beautiful, pristine; picturesque village, this restaurant is simply idyllic in every sense of the word. Where to start?.. The food was sensational, every single dish was superb, all homemade and cleverly put together with a lot of thought and attention to detail. Our appreciation of good food can make us quite critical as a family, but the chef blew us away with each dish (starter, main and desert) being sublime. The menu was fantastic and varied.Excellent value without doubt, they don’t skimp on portion sizes and the food is A* quality. We sat in the tranquility of their outside space, whilst under the shade of the marquee we enjoyed the green countryside views. Tables were nicely spread out so it didn’t feel crowed but it was a lovely relaxed atmosphere and both dog and family friendly! They have a fantastic children’s climbing frame and slide which the girls loved playing on so getting them to leave the restaurant proved a challenge! The staff were so attentive, friendly and helpful as were the owners. Everything felt authentic and honest. The service couldn’t be better, it was clear the whole team take huge pride in their work and their Pub as they have clearly gone over and above to ensure happy customers. Without doubt this restaurant has exceeded expectations and has gone straight to the top of our ‘favourite family restaurants’ list! We can’t wait to return to this treasure of a restaurant. The setting and the pub are beautiful and I have been on many occasions over the years. However, this time around the menu had been vastly reduced and the small offering for vegetarians/vegans was extremely disappointing - 1 for starter and 1 for main just isn't enough... and the main was risotto?! Times have changed and there are an abundance of food ideas out there which don't include meat. I, disappointing, won't be rushing back.

Jeremy and his team have outstanding customer service and go out of their way to make sure your dining experience thoroughly enjoyable. The food & presentation is fabulous and myself and my family cant wait till our next visit.

This is a beautifully situated pub in a lovely setting - lovely historic dining room inside the pub and pretty green views at the rear. The play equipment is perfect for kids up to about 11 and our kids loved it. We just had a few niggles around service - while really pleasant and welcoming it was very slow at all stages, from getting our order in, getting the adults’ food and getting the bill. The kids’ food arrived a long time before ours as well, whereas we would prefer to eat together. The food was nice but not quite up there where we would have expected given the prices. As it was such a lovely place we will give it another try and see if the food and service are slightly better next time.

Staff were very accommodating and helpful, the food was tasty and reasonably priced. The biggest downside is the limited parking but unfortunately nothing can be done about that.

I'm not usually one to have/enjoy a roast in a pub but this was an exception. The roast lamb and service were spot on. We all ordered different roasts but all equally enjoyed. Great portion size and variety of veg. Have already recommended to others.

Visited the Pub at the weekend with friends, the service was brilliant, and the friendly staff were smiling thru their masks. The menu was sufficiently varied enough to cater for all tastes and the food was delicious. We will definitely be visiting again when we are back in Bunty!

Since moving to sg9 area a few months ago the pubs have been frankly disappointing, the sword on the other hand was excellent, great food, excellent beer and service for me was perfect. Would highly recommend a visit, thank you very much guys will be back soon

We had the most fabulous meal in this beautiful restaurant.The staff and service was exceptional and the atmosphere was warm and relaxed.We've eaten in a lot of restaurants and this is definately up there with the best.We will definately be coming back on a regular basis.Well done guy's, great food and great staff x

We have family who live locally and they took us here for lunch. The food was of London restaurant standard and way beyond an average ‘pub lunch’. The staff were attentive and warm in their service which I think should receive extra acknowledgement in this difficult COVID-19 period. Will definitely visit again upon our next visit to Buntingford.

I just want to say how much we enjoyed our lunch yesterday. It was the first time we had taken our 93 year old Mum out since she lost her husband earlier this year. We felt so at ease and the food was delicious. Thank you very much indeed!

Always enjoy the dining experience at this beautiful country pub. The service is always impeccable and the food is superb. It was very busy, being a Sunday lunchtime: we have previously only ever been during the week, which is quieter and a bit more sedate. But it was great to see how well this venue seems to be doing at this difficult time. All very meticulous in terms of cleanliness and organisation and always somewhere where we would make an extra special effort to visit (despite our living over half an hour away). Thank you for another very enjoyable meal.

My family and I are so impressed with this place, it really is very special.The building itself looks very impressive and a lot of care and pride is taken to ensure your first impressions are good.It is set in a lovely village setting and the building and grounds are maintained to a high standard, including the beer gardens and car park. Everywhere is very clean and tidy.The decor inside is stunning and the atmosphere is simply lovely. Staff are friendly and extremely accommodating. A birthday card was left on the table for my Dad which we thought was such a lovely thoughtful gesture. The menu is varied with something for everyone’s taste and very reasonably priced.The food is outstanding and cooked to perfection. Served quickly but in no way rushed, hot, fresh and very tasty.The portion sizes are very generous and the quality of the food is excellent.Definitely one of our favourite places and We hope to return many times.

We recently enjoyed a most enjoyable Meal & Evening in this beautiful Pub Restaurant. We were warmly greeted and seated with all safety measures in place. We were joined by friends that live locally and friends that were visiting and had not been to the pub before. They all enjoyed the atmosphere and the wonderful Food & Wine. Liver & Bacon went down a treat by 3 of the party. The T Bone & Fillet Steaks were excellent. Service was friendly and efficient. A very enjoyable evening.

Lots of boxes are ticked at the Sword Inn Hand, just off the main A10 in a village noted for its tea rooms and the chance to stroll around and gawp at a clutch of period des res homes. Post-lockdown arrangements are discreet but clear and firmly applied,service is friendly and efficient, the menu offers a good mix of family favourites and options for the more adventurous, and an attractive selection for non-meat eaters.On a blustery autumn afternoon I thoroughly enjoyed a cottage pie filled with quality ingredients and accompanied by a generous selection of veg, washed down with a pint of Young's bitter. Thumbs up all round.

Great pub in a beautiful village. Little touches like fresh flowers on tables. Food was excellent, good size portions and obviously made with care and attention to detail. Service was efficient and friendly. Tables are well spaced in current conditions. There are a few rooms available for overnight stays. Rooms are clean, bathrooms are small but for a one night stay it was fine. I would definitely return if back in that area.

What an absolute find! Situated in a lovely location. The rooms are beautifully decorated. Soft linen and comfortable cushions. All mod cons.. TV (with Netflix) Nespresso maker, kettle, fridge, fan, iron and travel hairdryer. Huge garden area, with plenty of seating in the patio beer garden area. Indoor bar and dining area is tastefully decorated. Cooked breakfast was yummy! Highly recommend!

My partner and I visited for Sunday lunch yesterday. I have to say we had a thoroughly enjoyable meal, the service was very friendly and welcoming and the food was excellent.My partner had liver and bacon, who was amazing and I had the pork rib which was equally tasty.. I would have liked more crackling, but when is one piece ever enough.. Lol!We had the treacle sponge for pudding which is probably the best we’ve tasted.. light, fluffy and gorgeous and a large portion.We will definitely visit again. I would recommend booking as every table was taken. Bearing in mind we live in a local village with three pubs, the food here is worth the car drive. It is at the pricer end of Sunday lunch, but worth it for the quality of the food, ambience and service.

Been twice this month the food service so amazingly good I live in Spain now and find it so difficult to find a decent place to eat locally it’s not local 30 minutes drive well worth the drive I cannot tell you how happy I am to find this fantastic establishment

I couldn't fault a thing. Reasonably priced for brilliantly presented and tasty food. It's not often you find a little gem like this that is run and staffed by genuinely lovely people. Couldn't recommend highly enough.

I visited your pub twice in Saturday 8th August whilst visiting a friend in the village. As I pointed out at the time to Jeremy the Landlord, I felt it was the most friendly pub I had visited in years. The entire staff were impeccable. Polite, cheerful, helpful and welcoming. To be made to feel so included was a revelation. I felt like a local immediately. The food was great value and you managed to accommodate our late request without batting an eyelid. I wish you and your marvellous team all the success and I will, yes WILL, be back.

Really overpriced lovely staff and food but £18+ for a roast is horrendous 4 glasses of wine one lemonade and two roast dinners small at best with one kids meal £75!! Lots of other places so much cheaper and better value

Tried this place for Sunday lunch - they do two sittings, one starting at 12 and one at 3. We went for 3. The pub was heaving on arrival but it turned out to be a large party waiting for their table. We were quickly shown to our table and ordered drinks, which was great as there was a long queue at the bar.The atmosphere was really nice. All chat and no background music, still less the dreaded pub TV, just the warm buzz of people in conversation. The menu is pretty good with a few vegetarian and fish options. No nut roast though, which is a shame for a veggie who wants to join in the Sunday roast experience. We ordered prawn and crab timbale with beetroot cured smoked salmon, and scallops in pancetta. The portions were good and the prawns tasted summery and fresh. The beetroot cured salmon was really tasty. The scallops were plump and delicious though perhaps the pancetta could have been crispier. But really excellent starters. For mains I had lamb and my partner the veggie lasagne. My lamb was a good portion with a separate bowl of nicely cooked vegetables. The roasties and Yorkshire were ok but not among the best I have had. The lamb had good herbie flavour and was well cooked. My partner found the lasagne a little oily. It is hard to make a veggie lasagne very interesting and the small side salad didn't help.We were offered warm fresh bread rolls with butter, which was a really nice touch. The service throughout was excellent - very friendly and pretty efficient. Without puds (too stuffed) the bill was just shy of £60, with a couple of pints of Directors and a small cider included. Service optional.High points were atmosphere, service and the tremendous starters. For a pub too the toilets were new, clean and very pleasant. Big tick. We shall come again.

Another visit to this establishment and cannot comments the staff enough for a faultless evening. The waiters were attentive throughout the evening and the food was outstanding. Huge compliments to the kitchen staff!! Will certainly be visiting here again soon.

You honestly can not fault the service or food here. It’s always busy and full of both regular drinkers and people who have travelled for the famous food. I go here often with my partner as he is so fussy with food but this place leaves us both feeling so full and satisfied it’s a no brainer. It’s always best to book because they’re usually so busy but if not, someone on the service team will always try their best to fit you in and provide you with quality service. Our favourite waiter being Alex Minting, really polite and just brilliant at the job he has, so engaging and always attentive, no request is too big with Alex, and always manages to find us a table!! The food is, and I cannot stress this enough, INSANE. I always have the same - the scallops from the main menu, and when they’re in the special, I’ll switch things up. He always has the scotch egg with a bit of an oriental twist and I always end up eating most of his as well! We both always have the steak with the incredible peppercorn sauce. And usually if we can make room, will make our way through the desert menu each time we visit. Cannot recommend enough!!

We have been using the Sword for both business and pleasure for the last three years. For the last two of these, Jeremy and the team has hosted our Christmas event. Service and food are always on point and the team goes above and beyond to ensure all guests enjoyed their meal.When there was an issue with a room for one of our long distance guests, Jeremy found alternative accommodation and arranged transport to and from the meal living us free to enjoy our day.Try the food, go to their beer festival, stay over for a weekend. A great local venue in a lovely Hertfordshire village.

Absolutely love this pub. We've enjoyed several Sunday roasts and stop by for a drink every now and again. My partner and I dined with friends there last night for his birthday and was blown away with the food and service. The dishes are well presented and the flavours out of this world. The service is always so friendly and personable. The pub is both visually pleasing and super clean....rather impressed with how spotless the loo's are! Oh, and the gardens...so pretty and colourful in the warmer months! Jeremy and his team rock! Can not fault the pub whatsoever. It's incredible.

Regularly use this excellent friendly pub for evening work meetings. Food is excellent including a great vegan menu, used regularly by non-vegan attendees. Really helpful staff and booking help. Warm in winter and lovely outdoor options in summer. Highly recommended.

We use the Sward regularly for food, just drinks and parties and it ticks all our boxes every time. The food is excellent and the menu is always current and interesting. The staff are very friendly and made sure our Christmas party was a huge success. Highly recommended.

Lovely festive meal with friends, emailed our choices three days before, one of us wanted a starter that wasnt on the menu, this was no trouble at all, I loved my venison haggis sausage roll starter and enjoyed traditional turkey main. A great evening was had. Staff were very attentive.

Every visit to The Sword In Hand is a great one. The welcome is always friendly and the drinks and food menu are amazing.

Having a friend visit from Windsor for Dinner I had no hesitation in choosing the Sword Inn Hand for Dinner after my recent visit for Lunch with Friends.On arrival we were promptly seated at our reserved table in the Bar Area which had a lovely welcoming atmosphere. Food,Wine & Service was excellent. My starter of Scallops and Fillet & T Bone Steaks were the best with delicious Peppercorn Sauce. Lovely selection of Cheese & Biscuits with Port to finish. A very enjoyable evening.

Had a very enjoyable evening here recently, met up with family eleven in total. The evening was great, the drink and food choice was excellent and the quality of the food was very good served up well and without anyone having to wait very long. I had a sirloin steak which was as good as I've ever had before. Very attentive service overall.

Frequented this establishment on a recommendation for my daughters birthday and was not disappointed. We were met by extremely friendly staff who were thoroughly attentive throughout the evening. The food was exquisite and fairly priced for the quality. Will certainly be returning to sample more off the menu!!

Just popped in for a beer after a walk around the area. Nice atmosphere and a beer that was well kept and not too cold.

Grand parents, parents and kids enjoyed a long overdue get together at the Sword after we had driven through true beautiful setting on our way to Nasty. The setting is a wonderfully restored period pub and the new owners are running things with a great deal of energy. Food was excellent and the service very good- we sat at the back of the bar area before the garden- can imagine this would be very popular on a sunny day

Well.. we were invited to an evening do to celebrate some friend’s wedding. Knowing the pub, I wasn’t sure how it would work out.. but without doubt it did!! A great atmosphere, attentive staff, great beer and a superb buffet.. a really pleasant surprise.. recommended!!!

My husband and I decided to have our wedding here after visiting many times over the last few years and loving it every time.

When you first enter, the locals gathered around the bar stop talking at the sight of strangers, but after that slightly unnerving experience, normality returns. The service and food are both excellent. Well worth a visit.

Stopped in for a lunch whilst travelling north, the food was very good, ingredients seemed good quality etc. Special praise to Nathan, who was attentive and friendly whilst looking after us. Would recommend for lunch/dinner

Met a friend there for an evening.

My son and I visited this pub for the first time today and were very pleased with the ambience of the place, cosy inside, pretty arbour, with lovely hanging baskets on the patio, nice decor, spotlessly clean facilities, friendly, helpful staff and really well cooked and presented food. We will definitely be back. My son had the scampi and I splashed out and had the lamb fillet, which was perfectly cooked, as were the lovely dish of fresh veg that came with it. The portion sizes were more than adequate, we could not fault anything. The pub is set in the pretty little village of Westmill, just off the A10, so very accessible once you know it’s there.

Having friends visiting from Ireland and meeting others from North London we decided to meet at The Sword Inn Hand as I had previously met a friend for Dinner there once and it was very enjoyable. We arrived on a lovely sunny day and received a warm welcome from friendly staff. We were seated in a lovely table in an alcove which was perfect for us 7 girls to catch-up. Food & Service was excellent and we all had a very enjoyable Lunch. It has a lovely atmosphere.

I first went to this pub last weekend and they had a beer festival on. The atmosphere was buzzy, the food looked amazing and they had a huge selection of drinks available. We went again last night (Sat 31st August) for a family meal. The staff are friendly and attentive, the service was quick considering they were busy and the food was excellent! It was so good in fact that I only managed to take a photo of my starter! The black pudding scotch egg was lovely with the apple puree and crackling. My main was the Rib Eye steak from the specials board, cooked perfectly. And for dessert I enjoyed the chocolate brownie with salted caramel ice cream! The pub also has a lovely garden overlooking fields to the rear, it's very peaceful, and also offers a kids play area which was enjoyed by my boy.

The pub is in a small village a couple of miles from Buntingford but was obviously very popular, as it was busy during our stay there. We spent a couple of nights here. On arriving on Thursday night we found items for breakfast in our room, for Friday morning. There was plenty of choice, cereal, bread for toast, muffins, croissants, fruit juice. The only thing was there was nowhere to sit and eat it except for the bed. However had the weather been better we could have sat in the out door seating area. Saturday morning we had a cooked breakfast in the bar, which was very good. We were told that there usual clientele left very early in the morning hence the breakfast in the room.

This pub is really quite special.

Friendly greeting on arrival from the man behind the bar. Small service area but good selection of drinks available all the same. Pots of cheese and onion with crackers available to dip into on the bar which was a nice touch.

My wife and I have visited the Sword Inn Hand several times now and we have never been disappointed. Alex and his team always make you feel welcome and the service is always second to none. The service at the bar is very good. The menu and specials choices are excellent and the food is superb. Overall we rate this as the best pub/restaurant in the area and always look forward to visiting.

Had not been there for a while but will be back. Reasonable prices and good food for a Sunday lunch. No rush. Freshly cooked food. Friendly staff too.

We chose the Sword Inn Hand from a short list of ‘possibles’ within ready travelling distance for a milestone birthday dinner party on 13th July 2019. We were warmly welcomed by Jeremy on arrival – both he and his staff were courteous, friendly and attentive throughout a thoroughly memorable evening. Even among those of our party of family and friends who had dined at the Sword Inn Hand before (and knew to expect), there was delight at the ‘Specials’ board and the sense of occasion engendered by staff. Everyone received exactly the meal they had ordered – the quality and choices on offer being superb and the presentation delightful. Worth noting that our seven-year-old great niece was also well-catered-for in this child-friendly venue. The birthday cake had unfortunately been a casualty of the journey to the venue; but staff kindly agreed to render first aid in the kitchen and brought the cake to the table with candles glowing. A delightful evening was concluded watching the sky change colour after a glowing 10pm sunset. This was a glorious event: we are delighted we chose the Sword Inn Hand and happy to recommend to anyone who loves good food, friendly and efficient service in a beautiful historic setting.

Firstly let me stress that this review concerns not the restaurant but the accommodation and provision of breakfast.The Expedia website where the booking was made promised a full breakfast. On arrival at the property mid afternoon on July 3rd we were informed that only a continental breakfast in the room was provided. As we had family and a newly born granddaughter to visit we investigated this no further and thought it would suffice as we needed an early get away the following morning. We got back to the propery late on the night of our stay and retired immediately. Imagine our dissapointment at 6 am the following morning to find the following provided as 'breakfast'. Two Weetabix, 1pack of Alpen, 1 chilled croissant, 2 slices of chilled bread, 3 small pots of jam/marmalade and some teabags. There was only 1 dish supplied for the cereals and no coffee. There was in all fairness a note to indicate that a member of staff be contacted should we need anything further but at 6 am the pub seemed to be locked up. What I would like to query is why you still advertise a full breakfast when you do nothing of the sort and why the continental breakfast you provide is such a pathetic offering. This experience was a huge disappointment especially as we had read great reveiws about the food in the restaurant which were backed up by family members living in the area who had eaten there.

Sat in the lovely quiet garden in the warm sunshine whilst sipping chilled Sauvignon. Our food arrived and it was sublime. The perfectly seared scallops with cauliflower purée and truffle salad was Devine. My husband loved his salad. Excellent polite and friendly staff. First class.
