Great friendly pub in lovely location serving delicious food! We loved are last two visits. Well priced and well cooked food, nice outdoor seating both front and back of pub and the occasional toot of the lovely old steam engine at East Cranmore Station adds to the ambience. I thoroughly recommend! The nut roast on Sunday is delicious btw!

Lovely Christmas Lunch Tasty risotto

First time I'd been since the pub's reopening. Food superb. Silky, beautifully balanced soup; hearty mains with probably the most delicious, interesting pub veg I can remember and clever, comforting dessert. Lovely service and cosy ambience. Excellent value too.

We had a lovely meal on a cosy Friday night, sat by the open fire in the restaurant! The food was excellent.

I've been to this pub a few times, as my daughter lives in a nearby village. Each time I have eaten I have not been disappointed. Very flavourful and fresh, lovely friendly service, beautiful interior and apparently they have a great pub quiz night also. Look forward to the next time I am there.

I am 57 years old so have eaten a lot of Sunday lunches, but this was the best.

Lovely village pub with character. Seating area at the front overlooks the pond with a larger seating area out the back. Lunch was amazing! Belly pork cooked to perfection with just the right crackle to the crackling. Staff were so friendly and helpful.

Popped in on a Sunday afternoon after a visit to the railway. Food was excellent, the new owners deserve all the success heading their way.

What an absolute gem of a find while out on a walk - popped in for a very late lunch - nothing was too much trouble - food was excellent - cooked to perfection and all done freshly - none of your ping microwave frozen garbage... cant fault it - would highly recommend and will definitely be back. Fabulous!!

I only leave reviews once in a while but sometimes something stands out as worth praising. The Strode Arms is 5 stars all the way. Superb food brilliantly served. All from fresh top quality ingredients. This will soon be recognised as a top gastro pub, but for the moment is quiet and undiscovered under outstanding new owners. We chanced upon it after going to the East Somerset Railway. With a gorgeous village pond viewpoint this is a jewel of a pub. The interior is brilliantly done but still traditional with a marvellous log fire and fantastic antique tables and carefully chosen comfortable, period seating. And boy can they cook. Book now while you still can. Loved it. Outstanding.

What a find! Beautiful place, lovely atmosphere, warm welcome. Menu was not too extensive but varied. Food was delicious, well cooked and beautifully presented. Waitresses were friendly and helpful with patience. Ours was particularly smiley, she was a delight. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and would definitely recommend.

Kris and Sam have really made the Strode an absolute gem of a country pub. The food is amazing, far superior to the usual fare on offer in pubs (and restaurants!). As all the food is cooked from scratch adapting options for fussy eaters or those on specialist diets is just a matter of asking (as long as your request is reasonable). At a recent visit they happily catered for one of our party on the keto diet by creating a bespoke starter from a burger patty and there are plenty of options that could have the carbohydrate swapped to a salad. The beer is well kept, the wine delicious, as well as a good selection of spirits on offer. All the staff are friendly and professional and dogs are welcomed with open arms (and a biscuit). If you're out on a long walk in need of refreshment, have a family celebration, don't fancy cooking or just want a swift pint (or hot chocolate with toasted marshmallows), you really can't go wrong with this pub. It's unpretentious and welcoming and we're so lucky to have it near by.

Stopped as we were passing at lunchtime having never visited before. Pork belly with apple mash was to die for. Staff friendly and attentive. Price reasonable for quality meal.

Nice place to sit and have a drink.

We're very lucky to have this as our local - as of time of writing (July 2023) it is truly excellent, a real hidden gem and worth visiting if you're in the area. Above everything else the menu is fantastic, with a good range of options, and the food is just impeccable. Presentation, taste, imagination put into what could just be deemed 'pub grub' - really above and beyond what you would expect. I've had the meat pie about 4 times now, it's that good. They do a meal and a pint offer on Wednesdays as well, so definitely worth popping down then. The beer is good (it's a Wadworth's pub), so I'm afraid I can't talk about the wine or coffee options as I just get 6X whenever I'm there! Current owners you can tell are really making an effort and taking care of the place; there's been renovations in the dining area, so there's plenty of seating inside, and they've made the bar a much more welcoming and warm place, where it previously had a bit more of a 'rustic' charm, (i.e. felt a bit like a bunch of random chairs and tables thrown into a room...). There's a patio out the front with a view of the village duckpond, and a nice grassy garden out the back with shade if it's nice weather and the patio's suntrap is too much! It's a beautiful old building as well, so cool in summer and with the fires in in winter stays nice and toasty. And it's a short walk from the steam railway! Only problem is I can't get down here enough.

Parking good, suggest going around the back. Quick service from the team, very friendly and helpful. Beer was good! Pub classics were better than average, good presentation, quality ingredients and fast service. Would return!

Had an impromptu lunch here on a Sunday when visiting the area with my parents, and it did not disappoint. The pub is in a beautiful little setting, has a very classic english pub feel. The food was marvellous, well made, authentic pub classics. The pies were super tasty and clearly made with good ingredients. The home made chips another highlight. 6X on cask was a lovely pint too, well kept. The staff were friendly and attentive, even though they had quite a large group all in at the same time, they did a fantastic job

Went to the pub today and had the best Sunday meal in a long long time. Definitely would recommend. The staff were friendly and the land lady was delight.

The likeable couple, their chef and staff are to be applauded for attempting to re-establish this pub and restaurant. The pub is welcoming and friendly with excellent ales. The menu is good and portions generous with reasonable pricing. I can thoroughly recommend the beef and mushroom pie, while on my second visit the beer battered fish and chips was faultless. The beer is well kept and a modest wine list carries some decent and affordable options.

I went to The Strode Arms yesterday and had the best food for a long time. The staff were friendly and attentive definitely will recommend them to all my friends and family. 10 out of 10. Booking my husbands 30th birthday there. Can’t wait.

Popped in for lunch with the Mrs, she had the ploughman's, although it was only 3 pickled onions and one piece of bread. I ordered the 'special' chilli jacket potatoeee with extra cheese, and i was a bit shocked with what arrived.

This is what you have come to expect from a lovely country, village pub. A large car park, warm welcome, choice of beers, tables in bar as well as restaurant and a log fire to warm you up on a cold evening. The menu had all the old favourites as well as newer dishes so something for everyone and it was well cooked and plentiful. We ate there twice and each night although not packed it was busy with visitors as well as locals so hope it continues as a lot of country pubs that I knew when I lived in the area have now disappeared.

Four of us called into the Strode Arms for lunch on Saturday and found this to be a wonderful country pub. Terrific Wadworths beer, pleasant cheerful service and faultless food. Although local we have not visited since new landlord has taken over and can honestly say it is very much improved. Can thoroughly recommend this charming pub - even better when combined with a visit, as we did, to the East Somerset Steam Railway!

I used to visit this pub regularly when Tim and Anne-Marie ran it. I had heard over the grapevine that Tim was back in the kitchen! So I telephoned last week on several occasions at both lunch time and in the evening. The phone just rang and rang so I sent an e-mail. Still no response! I have now booked another pub/restaurant for our special evening and, having read the most recent review, thank God that I did.

We rang in advance and booked for Xmas Eve for a group of adults we asked when booked it was a limited menu ... we were told no it would be a normal menu.When we arrived we found that it was a limited menu oh and they didn’t stock bottles largar The whole atmosphere was very Non Christmassy with No Decorations, lights or tree.The Garlic Bread Starters were cold, the deserts were listed as puddings but were actually more like pies with the pastry half cooked.Have eaten here before and we booked again for this meal as we were informed the pub was under new ownership and the meals were now fantastic .... Well actually the whole thing looked like some amateur set up with sorry to say an old school cook doing the food.Will definitely not be coming backThere are lot better pubs and restaurants within a 10 mile radius

We visited The Strode for dinner last night and were thoroughly impressed. The food was delicious, especially the halloumi fries, and the atmosphere was brilliant. The landlady was extremely welcoming as were the bar staff. Everything was without fault and we cannot wait to come back!

It's always good to see when local businesses takes on its customers comments and switches from locally bought in pies to home made on the premises. The quality is now certainly a lot better and comes up to scratch just like the rest of the menu. Always a friendly face behind the bar and a good pint of cider. You couldn't ask for more from a local pub!

Popped in for a lunch one day to get out of the horrible Somerset weather. Met by a lovely hot open fire to warm up and dry out. A friendly face behind the bar was welcoming and nothing was any trouble.The food is very well priced, freshly cooked and full of flavour. I certainly left a happy customer and look forward to when I can call back in again.

El personal es muy agradable, servicial y agradable, pero totalmente no tenía ni idea, tuvimos que pedir para todo, desde cubiertos de salsas, café y bastante a menudo nuestra solicitud fue olvidado. Nice homely feel to this pub/restaurant. Staff are excellent. Good selection of food and hearty servings. Plenty of space between tables. One of the few places where 'rare' is cooked to my idea of rare

Fuimos con unos amigos para comer el domingo. This was one of the tastiest roasts I've had. Mine was the chicken supreme with mash potato , very good roast, great sauce. The veg that came with the roast were just right. Not overcooked nor undercooked. We sat outside , it was too busy inside. Book in advance if you can but they will accomodate when possible.

We arrived late-morning on a Sunday seeking a cup of coffee before the pub officially opened. The landlord was welcoming, if a little surprised to see us, but arranged two delightful cups. We left very happy and will definitely return for dinner!

Estuve aquí una noche de sábado con amigos, 4 adultos y 4 adolescentes. Pub estaba lleno y había que esperar un poco para la comida después de elegir entre una amplia variedad en el menú. Comida apareció y no nos decepcionó - porciones enormes y muy sabrosos! El personal era muy amable y acogedor. No ha sido aquí durante años pero contentos de volver, sin duda volveremos. Recomiendo encarecidamente la parrillada mixta (es tan grande que podría ser una parrilla mixta compartir!) Brownie y tarta muy bueno también!!

Visité este pub esta noche con mi madre y mi hermana. Llegamos temprano por la tarde para ser recibidos por un joven muy amable, que nos servían bebidas y explicó todas las opciones de menú. I picked this pub out as we were on our way to Somerset from London. Waste of time. Don't bother. We arrived just after 2pm. No food. But they had crisps!! Didn't feel much love. Also full of (unfriendly) locals. Avoid.

Had a meal here with a group of friends midweek and it was very busy .So probably best to book .The food was delicious and served quickly .We did try and book the following weekend but we were told on the phone there were people queuing to eat that evening .I highly recommend this lovely village pub

Una joya de un pub que ha dado un cambio radical para mejor por su actual equipo. Amable incluso con niños pequeños, buena comida a un precio razonable, cervezas bien cuidado. Una buena mezcla de gente y pasando por el comercio. Recomiendo encarecidamente a gente intentando salir para comer o simplemente tomar una copa. Ambiente relajante.

Hemos visitado este pub dos veces para comer el domingo recientemente y una vez para cenar. Cenamos en el caminaban por con unos amigos y no volveremos. En primer lugar, la cerveza era y tenía que ser reemplazado y cuando alguien finalmente presentamos nuestra petición fue muy brusco y no muy interesado en absoluto. Después de pedir nos esperamos más de una hora para el primer plato que luego aunque el lugar era tranquilo, entonces esperamos 50 minutos para el otro, algunos platos principales sobre un fuego en excusa la cocina era farfulló la camarera y fuera de ella. La hamburguesa de pollo que pedimos estaba tan seca que era incomible y la salsa de chili que esperábamos era en realidad una parte de su valor turã stico había chili en medio de la hamburguesa!! La parrillada mixta llegamos con carne dura, lo cual no era un costilla como lo anuncian, no hay chuletas de cordero como se describe en el menú y una porción de pollo, que no estaba ni siquiera en el menú. Ninguna explicación sobre la prótesis ofrecieron por la camarera que nuevamente parecía desinteresado en su trabajo. No volveremos a este lugar.

Este pub es muy hermosamente situado frente al un minizoológico, en un pequeño pueblo, con tanto aparcamiento en la parte delantera y en la parte trasera del pub.

Cuatro de nosotros pedimos Plato pescado a compartir mezze como entrante, después de un rato esperando el plato principal aparezca antes del arranque. Cuando pregunté donde nuestro plato de pescado era la camarera intentó culpar a alguien por el hecho de que no había sido ordenados sin disculpas. Como nuestros platos principales estaban sentados en la mesa para conseguir frío no tuvimos más remedio que alimentarse no afecta los entrantes. Dos de nosotros tuvimos venado que era difícil y seco, los otros dos principales estaban bien, pero no es nada especial. Evita este lugar para la cena, a menos que disfrute de estar servido por jóvenes inexpertos con problemas de actitud.

Habíamos estado en la estación de tren de Santa (6 adultos, 3 niños) y vino, esperando la cálida bienvenida amable con los niños que habían recibido el pasado año. Los niños fueron capaces de "hacer su cosa" pero la acogida en general era indiferente. Qué lástima, aún así, nos hizo lo mejor posible. La camarera sirve la comida fue agradable. La comida estaba bien, aparentemente el jamón y huevo plato era abundante. La cerveza y el vino eran buenas. La factura era razonable, pero espero que la persona que sirve en los saludos del bar un poco.

Hemos visitado este pub muchas veces anterior a la gerencia y siempre había una buena noche con buena comida. Tuvimos una cena de celebración de cumpleaños que fue muy decepcionante, las raciones eran abrumador y la comida era muy común y poco interesante. Sólo había dos mesas en el restaurante adoptadas y ambos fueron expedidos con 'doggy equipaje" para llevar a la casa que sobrara de comida para perros algunos gratitud. Nosotros no vamos a volver.

Es siempre difícil cuando un pub cambia de manos y posiblemente está todavía en la etapa dentición. Sólo puedo informar sobre mi experiencia directa y espero que esto puede ser tomado como constructivas por la administración. El pub hacía tanto frío que dejamos nuestras chaquetas en ... había un fuego ventosa directamente junto a nosotros ... si lo hubieran iluminado hubiera cambiado la sensación completamente. También me esperaba tener una muy cálida bienvenida por la nueva dirección pero no había sonrisas y la verdad es que no me hicieron sentir que estaban encantados de haber allí. En lo que se refiere a la comida, es menos sofisticada comida de pub que anteriormente. Tenía un burger, que estaba muy bien, pero no es nada especial ... mis amigos estaban decepcionados con sus comidas. No porque no había nada malo en particular pero muy chip pesadas y tipo de media. Es difícil porque la comida antes solía ser fabuloso, y por lo tanto, creo que simplemente la sensación un poco decepcionados. Espero que los mencionados cambios porque podría ser un gran pub cuando hay muy pocos en la zona inmediata. La falta de variedad en la zona significa "yo soy es probable que volveremos y espero que podamos decir que todo está bien!

Arranged to meet friends here for lunch on Wednesday. Lovely pub. Good service. Good pub food but not amazing hence the 4 stars. Large portions. Would definitely return.

Nos reunimos aquí como su mitad de camino por las dos familias a conocer. Nos reuniremos aquí otra vez!! El servicio era fantástico, nada era un problema para ellos. Se relacionaban con los niños y estaban interesados en lo que tenían que decir, tenían la opción de un asado de los niños así como el típico que todos los niños fuimos para y liquidado sus platos! Los asados de adultos eran igualmente delicioso y el pescado y las patatas fritas incluido un pedazo gigante de pescado. No puedo describir cómo el fabuloso los postres eran, sólo me hubiera gustado tener más espacio para segundos, pero las raciones eran generosos. Ya hemos decidido lo que estamos teniendo cuando volvamos para la cena.

Beautiful meal , generous portion size for the whole family. Recomand everyone to come, enjoy the delicious food and great ambiance the new management have created.

Friendly country pub, good service, spotlessly clean and nice food served in large portions. We look forward to returning, and the steam railway is just down the road as an added bonus.

Me and my partner have eaten here a few times since the new management have taken over ... very friendly staff who cater for your every need ...food was outstanding and nothing was to much trouble for the chef ... on entering the pub the fire was lit very warm and welcoming the atmosphere at the bar was lively ... will be back here for sure .... very friendly pub and dog friendly which is also nice to see as not to many of those around ....

Super food, ,beautifully presented , taste fantastic,on top of that Excellent value for money. So impressed, we have taken our visitors to dine there, They too were impressed.

Nos decepcionó, estábamos visitantes regulares y disfrutamos de la comida recién preparada, ahora es simplemente comida de pub, la comida de pub. Sábado comer en nuestros abrigos hacía frío. Fue la comida podría haberme preparado en casa, no hay ofertas especiales y nada especial. Tendrá que buscar un sustituto para una antigua favorita.

Había un menú limitado debido a problemas en la cocina pero tiene una buena variedad de cosas para elegir sin embargo. Todos tuvimos bistec, preguntando por diferentes - raro, tamaño, etc. Todo salió perfectamente a nuestros gustos. Los postres también eran encantadoras.
