The Store - Launderette & Cafe in Highland

Doing the NC500 and stopped at this quirky very busy cafe. They were very friendly and efficient. My husband had a brief,cranberry and bacon toasty which he said was the best he has ever had. I had a fantastic jacket potato with cheese and beans. Super food and we thoroughly recommend it.

I visited The Store Cafe today for the first time with my partner and his Mum, and we were very impressed! We’d come a drive from Wick for a change of scenery on Easter Sunday, and had decided to book as my brother had recommended the Cafe. We weren’t disappointed! My partner and I both had the Lavish Larry burger and his Mum the CCB burger. I had a hot chocolate afterwards and we bought some cakes to take home. The food was delicious, and the waiter very friendly and helpful. The surroundings were so quirky too! I love places like that, with lots of knick knacks to look at! I especially loved the fiddle above the door! The view was astounding too. All in all, a great cafe and I’d definitely go back!

You know somewhere is really good when you drop in for lunch and spend half the time you're there planning what you're going to have when you come back the following day for breakfast... The Store is exactly the sort of place you hope to stumble across on holiday but so rarely do. Unpretentious, effortlessly cool, but clearly in the hands of people who know exactly what they're doing when it comes to brilliant service and fantastic food. A real treat.

Well worth the trip from Durness, some stunning scenery on the way. A great welcome, which is always a good sign. Very extensive menu and something on there for everyone. We ordered the spicy chicken burger, which was huge and very tasty, a prawn sandwich and fries, with a salad and coleslaw, which was all very fresh and tasty, the large Yorkshire with roast pork, Sunday roast on a Monday, and damn fine it was too. We also ordered the tomato soup, very rustic and a meal in a bowl, with the ploughman's, which was huge. The portions were very big, we could have shared, but we didn't want to!!! Very good quality food, and a very very pleasant atmosphere too. We would thoroughly recommend a visit.

We were desperate, couldn’t find anywhere for lunch but this was definitely worth waiting for. Fab food, friendly service, lovely ambience and a log fire. Make the effort to find this place ( we did take a wrong turn), it’ll be worth it.

We were in the area for the weekend and visited Bettyhill for the lovely Farr Beach, and were delighted to come across The Store. We popped in initially just for tea/coffee but gave in to temptation when we saw the wonderful selection of home-baking! The interior is quirky, cosy, and welcoming and you can have fun spotting all the vintage items stored on the shelves. After exploring we returned later on for lunch, which was excellent. We had the Halloumi burger and Store Burger respectively, both of which were delicious and came with a mountain of fries! We honestly couldn't fault a thing and the food and the welcome you receive was excellent. It was great to see it so busy in February too, as you often struggle up here to find places open out of season. We'll definitely be back when we're next passing by!

Chanced upon this little gem this morning as we drove along the North Coast. What an incredible find. A fabulous menu and everywhere you looked curios, crafts for sale, cake, fudge, books...a friendly atmosphere like nowhere else. On top of this a Bar! If you're passing don't miss it.

When they say open 365 days…they mean it! When they say 0900 opening…they mean that too!!! An oasis of munchies, coffee and heat…on the NC500find this place and visit…definitely!!!

Wow ! I don’t know how to describe this place . It’s a shop , cafe , and bar . We had the most generous welcome and the food was amazing . The staff were brilliant , and we sat by the real fire playing snakes and ladders on our NC500 trip . Please call in and see for your self how great this place is .

5 city folk popped in for a meal. Not expecting how wonderful this place is. The food was amazing, you could tell it was all freshly cooked and hand prepared. Burgers and Halloumi Salad! THANK YOU! Ps best hand cut chips (triple fried??) we’ve ever had!

We saw signs for The Store on the main road while doing the NC500 and decided to stop for some lunch. Its nicely sign posted so we just followed the signs. When we arrived we had a lovely welcome and we're made to feel at home. Inside it has a lovely feel and they had the log burner going so it was quite cosy. We both had the burger which was huge and came with a large pile of fries. They have a great selection of home made cakes which we indulged in. All in all a lovely visit and would highly recommend, we were made to feel welcome and the food was fantastic.

So easy to miss a modest restaurant like this but don't. The internal decor is eclectic the menu and beverages fantastic and servings too generous.

Live locally(Thurso) had fish n chips once,fabulous and coffee and cake several times. Booked evening meal tonight, my 62nd birthday. We had the surf n turf wonderful fresh local lobster,lovely fillet steak ,great chips and trimmings. A huge plateful , best meal I've had for a long time. Highly recommended a wee gem in the North West corner of Scotland.

We first came to the Store a few years ago, and fell greedily upon their perfect home made soup and toasties. Today was a leisurely lunch kind of day, so we decided to kick back and share the seafood platter for two. What a good choice! Spanking fresh, fabulously prepared, lots to go at. The herring was great, nice and strong on the dill. Oodles of little pink prawns, sweet and salty; generous slices of smoked salmon, and perfect smoky nackerel paté. Good bread and splendid salad, with extra points for a smashing slaw. This was plenty enough gor two, but we're greedy hogs and had a bowl of chips, too. All washed down with lashings of hot, strong tea in a proper Brown Betty tea pot, too. This place absolutely deserves to thrive; it's a glorious addition to its community, and treats the NC500 tourists fairly and with warmth and hospitality. Maybe leave room for stunning cakes, and perhaps splash out on a bottle of local Ice and Fire gin...

Loved loved loved this place. It was incredible--so much to look at on the shelves around us and delicious homey food to eat (even for our gluten-free son). Everyone dining at this small place seemed so happy--we chatted with another traveler, whose dog sat quietly and happily in the corner, welcomed by the staff and greeted by all the diners. The perfect stop!

A really impressive range of choices on the menu. We chose the soup and toasted sandwich, and the seafood platter ! I have to say the platter was one of the best ever, so fresh, tasty and filling (we had to take some with us in their handy takeaway boxes). A great little spot, well worth a visit.

Visited for lunch and enjoyed lovely homemade soup and sandwiches, baked potato etc. Vegans appeared to be well catered for as I was offered several options that could be made for me.it was busy and we sat outside which that day was a bit chilly! Inside most seating seems to be on high stools which is not so good for old ladies like me, though there are some other seats and some sofas. The service was efficient and friendly despite being busy.

We were on a driving holiday and needed something for lunch and being at the very top of Scotland we weren’t sure if we’d find anything, but looking on Google my partner saw this place and we were both really surprised! A lovely selection of sandwiches, panini’s, cakes and drinks were available and staff were really lovely too and All with a super view too!

Dared to venture onto the dreaded NC500 for a run from home in Alness up to Tongue, diverted to Bettyhill looking for somewhere for Lunch and stumbled upon The Store Cafe....good choice.A fine range of items for Lunch on offer, went for Bacon, Brie and Haggis Panini, a good test of an establishment I find.Coffee was fery nice, served promptly before we ordered our food.Panini served with a very nice tasty side salad, good amounts of contents, very very tasty...!!!Very well worth the detour, in fact well worth the journey here from Alness just to sample some more of the fine fare!Nice little booths as well so very Covid safe and cosy.Good job all, keep up the good work!Top marks all round.

we stopped here on 1st November after driving from Ullapool. We drove for about 100 miles looking for somewhere to stop for food! By the time we found this little gem we were starving! This wee shop/cafe is so quirky and cosy with a huge log burning stove. We had homemade tomato soup which was delicious. They also sell a huge range of gin, vodka, wine, woolly hats and various other things! To top it off, the lovely lady working on Sunday (sorry I don't know her name) bought us a bottle of wine as a gift as we are on our honeymoon. We were blown away by this very thoughtful gesture, thank you so much :-)

Called in on a cycle tour of the Far North, Disappointed to see they weren’t operating as a cafe when I visited but understandable in the circumstances. Had some wonderful cake and a welcome brew. Lovely to sit outside in such a wonderful setting

Although small, this café is a great little place to stop for a tea, coffee and a bite to eat. Staff are freindly and helpful. It is situated just off the main road through Bettyhill but a roadside sign points you in the right direction. Well worth a visit.

I visited The Store Cafe today. I was in Bettyhill for a group. I ordered a ham and cheese sandwich, fruit drink, Scottish shortbread and a piece of chocolate cake. The food is excellent. The two young ladies that served me were polite and knowledgeable. The Store Cafe has a help yourself for sweets and drinks. They also sell knitted items and books. I would recommend a visit. The Store Cafe is one of the best I have been to.

opped off here in Bettyhill whilst on our NC500 trip on the way to our accommodation in Tongue. Lovely quaint little cafe with friendly welcoming staff. We both had a panini and a hot drink both of which we were able to help ourselves to and make our own from the fridge/facilities there. I did order two paninis but one only came out, after a few minutes I double checked the second panini had gone through and it hadn’t. The staff were very apologetic and it’s an easy misunderstanding to make!!! Friendly place and decent price with yummy home made food! Your potato salad and coleslaw was GORGEOUS! Was going to have some cake but was stuffed! Would definitely recommend.

This isn't a tourist trap - whilst you won't find afternoon tea you will find warmth, value and honesty. Great selection and presentation on the food front especially for the limited resources and the cakes look yummy.It truly is like an extension of your sitting room you will feel that comfortable. Oh, and during the off-season it is full of locals, a sure tell tale of a good cafe!

Came to the cafe to get a warm cuppa with the family after a good beach walk. I only expected to get a coffee but they had lots of gluten free treats!I had a lovely slice of carrot cake and the kids had chocolate cake and tiffin. Really yummy, braw setting with nice coffee. Hard to describe as nothing does it justice, quirky, great staff, freshly made sandwiches are a must as are the cakes. 100% recommended. Pet friendly to. Off the main road so look out for the signs to the store, don't miss this little gem.

Bettyhill is one of the larger villages along the A836 north coast main road in Sutherland. Roadside signs direct you a short way down a side road to this charming, quirky little cafe. The surroundings are sort of rustic-retro (?), the snacks delicious and generously proportioned and cheap! More varieties of tea are available than you can shake a stick at, there is a piano available for you to express your appreciation in song or you can just observe the local wildlife through the binoculars provided. Very pleasant staff - a lovely relaxed atmosphere rolls over you as you enter the place. Lovely!! (limited opening hours so check - they have a website)

Je moet wel even van de hoofdweg afwijken want het cafe is gelegen aan de buitenkant boven het dorp. Het is echt een plaatselijk cafe met zijn eigen gewoontes typisch Schots en daarom ook zo gezellig. Zoals de naam doet vermoeden is het ook een winkel en daarnaast dus het cafe-deel. De ligging is ook mooi omdat je van daarboven zicht heb op de kustweg. Je mag zelf je koffie of thee inschenken en als je een stuk taart wil hebben neem maar een bord en kies maar uit, bedien je zelf. Afrekenen doe je straks maar als je voldoende gegeten en gedronken hebt. Zij schrijven zelfs niet op wat je genomen hebt. Heerlijk zo vertrouwen op de mensen. Heel leuke zaak maar niet groot.

We had been out exploring, we had been to the Strathnaver Museum along the road a bit and when we left there our bellies were rumbling. Time for lunch now where to go. We headed back to Bettyhill to find someplace to eat, we had been in the Bettyhill Hotel for lunch a few days ago but decided we didn't want to go back there. We turned down a road and came upon this place. It didn't look much from the outside but when we read their coffee menu on the board sitting outside we laughed and decided we have to go in. Walking in was like a step back in time but in a good way. The place looked like an old store shop almost like you see in the old westerns. A piano in the far corner just waiting for someone to play it. We went to the counter and were handed a couple of menus and told we can pay when we order or before we leave, whichever we chose. We sat down at a table to ponder over the menu and it all sounded good. We placed the orders and the food was soon served and it was some of the freshest looking food we had ever seen. Some of the freshes we had ever tasted too. While eating we noticed on the shelves next to us were cakes.......lots of cakes all cut into generous sized slices. We thought if the mains are this good then we need to try the cakes.

We stopped at a delightful cafe in a place called Bettyhill. It was one of those that doesn’t do fancy stuff like lattes and cappuccino but good old filter coffee, to which you help yourself, (and free refills) or teapigs which again you make yourself, then browse the shelves around the room laden with calorific cakes, scones and biscuits before helping yourself. The chocolate cake and coffee and walnut cakes were delicious.

A perfect little find and a unique place. Situated well off the main road up a lane, we wondered when we would find it but it was well worth the 0.3 mile walk up the hill, though afterwards we discovered it was accessible via a nearer route!! This was a sort of DIY cafe with a fantastic atmosphere. One helped oneself to savouries, cakes and treats dotted around the room and also to filter coffee kept hot on the machine. There was seating indoors and out on a sunny terrace. It was friendly and relaxed. Great!!!

What a great find. Love the idea of a coffee menu that bucks the Barrista trend. Help yourself filter coffee with free refills, lovely cakes didn't try the other foods but all looked good.

Been there with my man and my friends during our road trip on the NC500 in May....What can I say ? We fell in love with the place. It was a rainy day, we wanted a hot tea on the afternoon and we had see the signs several times during the last days, so we stopped... Wow. You guys were SO kind ! A warm place, a good fire, lots of laughts, games, books...and the cakes ! So good ! A last a place where we can take all our time to choose a tea, or several if we like it. The owner (I guess) explained to us how the place worked and we could fell her trust in us, it's was refreshing. We definitely love The Store Cafe and we want the same in France ! Bonus : I'm vegan and I could see several choices among the sandwiches, great !
