The Stoneham Pub in Brighton and Hove

Amazing food. We’ve eaten here several times and it’s always really great, fresh food full of flavour.

We was looking for some food to have before going into town. So glad we found this place.. Lovely atmosphere, & food was amazing. One of the best roasts we have had for a long time.. Kids also loved their pizza. Thanks again will definitely be back.

Gem of a pub! Lots of seating, Amazing food, great atmosphere and super attentive staff. Would recommend the roasts and the pizzas. Great portions, lovely selection and just yummy.

Nice Sunday roast however the service here needs improvement. We went up to the bar to ask for a second drink and pay the bill after not having anyone serve us for over 30 minutes. The guy at the bar rudely told us there was no service at the bar before we paid and got the other drink.

What can I say the Stoneham, after searching Brighton hove & Portslade , and then finding the Stoneham , good choice for foodies with a small selection of choices, which are changed quite frequently so when you go to the Stoneham it’s always a treat as you never know what you will be getting, the staff were very friendly and attentive to all my needs, as I am disabled in a large powered wheelchair, also accompanied by my guide dog, and the most important for us is the accessible toilets with there wide doors making for easy access and exit , the food was a feast for the eyes as another guest said and taste was mmmmmmm really nice , would I be going again yes I will as it’s a treat .

Burgers were amazing, lovely beer selection and staff were super friendly! Highly recommended.

I am currently here eating the seafood risotto and had to write this review whilst here. This risotto is by far the best risotto I have had in years. Also, just want to mention that the staff here are amazing, nothing is too much trouble and they have gone out of their way to accommodate my needs . Especially this evening when I am in a lot of pain with my ailments. I would recommend this establishment 100%. Mmmmmmm this risotto is delicious. Big up to the chefs in the kitchen. X

Amazing place, great drinks and the prices too. Connor has been incredible and helpful with our time in this establishment. His colleague however, a blond older lady, made my experience rather awkward as whenever Connor was helping us she would begin talking to him and diverting his attention to her own personal conversation. Regardless, I’ll revisit but would like to see the whole team share a customer focussed ethos.

I often have visitors and as the Stoneham is a short walk from my flat I always take my guest there for lunch or supper! Great food, great service and vibey atmosphere! In summer the outside garden is great over weekends with often great live music!

Went on Sunday with a big group of friends, 16 of us. The roasts were delicious, everyone was raving about them, and the service very attentive. Really enjoyed the experience and will definitely go again.

As usual, the bar prices are typical Brighton; expensive! However, the staff are friendly. service is top class and the food is superb! I highly recommend the Korean wings. There's a huge screen TV and we were able to watch the RWC. Lots of rugby fans so never any hassle. I'll be going again next time I'm down

My favourite spot for a roast in Hove. I've tried loads in the area and although we are spoilt for choice. This is my regular spot on a Sunday for a reason.... the Roast is always on point, with Pigs and cauliflower and cheese. Big pub with 2 outdoor areas

Salat: high price, low quality: You get mixed salad leaves but almost none of the components mentioned in the menu (eg radish, beetroot, tomatos) and if You ask about them, You’ll get a tiny part.

I have been working my way around top rated sunday roasts in Brighton and Hove and have been often disappointed. Tried the Stoneham as it's local and was not disappointed! It was better than the ones on the recommended list. Chicken full of beautiful flavour, lots of gravy, all veg cooked perfectly and Yorkshire putting not so get done (which they often are) or undercooked just perfect! We sat out the back in lovely little outdoor garden with lots of pretty flowers. Staff also friendly and efficient even though they were super busy. Will definitely be back!

Went to an event in the function room. The venue was lovely and the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The buffet was way, way better than I'd expected. Highly recommended

Went in early on a Saturday eve with my 2yo daughter, it's sort of cavernous with the Atmos of an underground car park. It wasn't too busy but there was nowhere to sit A Guinness and a glass of wine was £16. They served us (admittedly might not have seen my daughter) and then came over to ask us to leave due to their license restrictions. We were allowed to finish our drinks. Sorry to be negative.

Quick phone call following a disaster at The Garden Bar Booking. Found us a table for 10 at very short notice and provided a great service all night (in particular the guy serving on 22.12.22). Food served as described, good atmosphere, saved the day. Thank you so much and Merry Christmas.

I went to the Stoneham this weekend. I was impressed with how well they were following the Covid secure protocol . It was very clean and well spaced out . The food was delicious. My mother and I had Fish and Chips . They were delicious with lovely big potatoes wedges . We also ordered some calamari which was amazing . My son had a nice pizza too . I will definitely be returning soon . It is convenient to go as a family as you can let the kids play in the nearby park before hand . There is also parking nearby although you have to pay around there it isn’t too pricey .

Yet again we chose to visit on Sunday. Great value, very tasty food, happy staff and the pub was very clean. My only bug bear was the enormous service charge. We only had our food delivered, no check back and no opportunity to get another drink, we were in the garden but I still believe a check back and a huge opportunity to sell more was missed. I will return but not sure when.

Great venue, great food and drink and a great all round pub! Came to the pub on a handful of occasions but enjoyed it every time, from birthday celebrations to euro semi final showings, the staff are all so friendly and after trying the food for the first time, it just topped it all off. Great little garden in the back and it just looks a feels so welcoming, definitely my choice of pub whenever I head that way in hove and it’s definitely a favourite of mine! Can’t recommend enough!

Moody bar person, gave us snide remarks about leaving our empty glasses on table as we had to rush out for the bus… not that it’s our job to clear tables of course. No wonder the place was empty while place over the road was packed.

Booked here today for sunday lunch. Greeted by Jess and Connor who made our experience here absolutely outstanding. All staff friendly and very helpful. Food was amazing, extremely tasty and very reasonably priced. Unfortunately our lunch was so big we couldn't fit a pudding in!! Jess told us of the prosecco offer, so " it would be rude not to" idea took over. Really enjoyed our lunch out and I believe we will become regular customers, everything so clean and tidy, even the garden. We'll done The Stoneham, your hard work shows. We will return with our friends. Thank you x

Went to this pub yesterday whilst visiting family. Served by a very friendly bar staff and decided to have something to eat The food was superb including a very fresh and tasty pizza as well as the seafood risotto as part of their seafood weekend All was perfectly cooked, plentiful and nice and hot - a good sign in our books The venue is lovely and the fixtures and fittings really nice Locals should make the most of a rare find outside the hubbub of central Brighton and Hove whilst visitors should aim to go for somewhere more personable. We will come again 👍

Excellent place - ended up going twice for food on a weekend away as the food is great, people are super-friendly, and the atmosphere is really laid back and happy!

A great pub with wonderful staff and an excellent (wonderfully placed early Sunday) quiz that gives a chance for everyone to win. The roast is one of the best in brighton.

Another great local pub. Great fresh Pizzas made on the property and lovely Roasts available on Sudays. Booking is recommended for lunch on Sunday.

Been a regular here spending £100's & I mean £100's all my family eat here & I have recommended to numerous friends & family! But now we have to look elsewhere to eat as I've been let down on more then 1 occasion having booked on line and booking has been cancelled..I know its a busy place to eat but you really should look after your regulars.......

Great roast, excellent pigs in blankets. Constructive feedback - I thought there were probably too many chunks of beetroot across all the roasts. Ross, over 30 years' of experience in the consumption of roast dinners, thought it would also be nice to add a splash of mint sauce through the gravy served with the lamb roast to really elevate dish. A good sauce can really bring the meal together. Helen, Cal's mum and mother of 4, thought it would be good to have the option of a pre cut up roast for parents so they can eat with one arm while holding a baby. 5-star roast - will definitely go again. Very disappointing mother's day Sunday lunch. We were greeted by an angry and moody person who didn't make us feel welcome from the start. We ordered food for our baby to come early but it came late with the mains. They forgot one of the mains and didn't know which beef we were getting. Both pork and beef were very dry and over cooked. Roast potato was so hard it flew off my plate when I went to cut it. Gave polite and honest feedback at time of payment and when asked if things were OK with our meal. This was met with defensive response and considering it was an expensive meal, no apology given. This hasn't made us want to return to eat there again, it's really lost its food quality and has a non-friendly atmosphere. Staff need to appear a bit more happier to work there also.

Amazing service and great atmosphere

This place was recommended for the pizza and quite honestly I've had better pizzas from the frozen isle in Iceland. £14 for a dry tasteless pizza and if you wanted onions or jalepenos it was extra. Didn't complain on the day as just sucked it up but on reflection I felt rather disappointed. Won't bother again.

I’d been to this pub many moons ago and they just served pizza and I wasn’t blown away, so it was risk going back and on Valentine’s. However, the food was excellent. We shared the chilli nachos to start- my wife says they’re the best she’s ever had!! Hard to disagree to be honest. Then we both had the Smokey burger, which was beef with bacon and cheese and a generous portion of skin on fries. Service was good and the pub was relatively busy. The only downside was the Pepsi was flat as out of the gun but it’s a small criticism and I’d definitely like to go back

Slow service, I ordered chicken, not impressed slightly over cooked & not a lot of it, homemade coleslaw disappointing, on the plus side great aperol spritz & skinny fries. Buzzy new place in Brighton hope can survive.

Friendly bar-staff, non-existent management. Tried to book the function room for a wedding reception. Phoned, and was told to email. Emailed and no reply. Visited pub in person and was told manager not available, but would call me to discuss booking. Manager didn't call. Obviously not important where I spend my £££. Custom taken elsewhere.... as should the resident drunk woman who harassed me throughout my attempt to discuss booking with barman at 4pm on a Thursday afternoon!

The private room is perfect for a party- buffet food was all delicious

Altho a very quiet Monday lunchtime we had a very pleasant visit + our barman was excellent. Friendly, polite + really good service. Would highly recommend.

Nice pub, decent pizzas and roasts, family friendly, does get a bit buzzy and noisy on the weekends. Beer selection not the best.

This place always feels like a hug when you walk in... The garden is enclosed. Perfect for young dogs . And its v dog friendly 😊

Bit pricey £6-20 for a pint of Burrs Moretti. You would get kicked out of Yorkshire for prices like that and that's not even Brighton prices either.

Not sure what it's like normally but had a great night at Steve Mac's 50th. Bar was understaffed - looong wait for drinks, but in fairness they clearly didn't know how popular this fella is!

I walked past and wanted to review this place as it had some good reviews. The place was not busy at all on the Saturday evening I visited. There were several groups of families and a few couples.. I ordered a beer at the bar and went to a table. I checked the menu was burgers and pizza mainly. The place is big and well decorated. There are plenty of seats inside and out. For the service no one came to see me once I had sat down. I had my support dog and was not offered a bowl of water for her. The staff seemed more interested in talking and chatting amoung themselves them checking all the customers. While I was there a group of people were kicked out who were drunk which was handled well. For all the reviews you are better off at a weathepoons for price and service. I did not order meal and left as I thought the general ambience and vibe was lacking.

Great location, clean & tidy but pricy £6 for pint of Estrella. Other pubs in Hove selling similar for £5 -£5.50.

Took the grandkids out for dinner, food was great, service was better, just found it a little pricey, but hey the kids enjoyed it.

We had spent the day touring the Artists Open Houses in Hove and originally we’re going to eat somewhere else, however the attitude , rudeness and dismissive attitude of the staff there made us change our plans. We ended up at the Stoneham which is a large pub but it has a cosy welcoming feel. The staff here were so different. Friendly, cheerful, helpful and kind. Provided a drink for our dogs without us asking which was really thoughtful and they couldn’t have been more helpful. We had a nice meal and a really pleasant experience. Well done Stoneham you made our day!

New menu is great! Amazing service and atmosphere, definitely a must visit.

The winter menu is very limited and not very exciting. Came in late afternoon 4pm ish on wet cold night, the pub felt dark and dreary. It was quiet so that didn’t help with the atmosphere. Ordered the homemade nachos which were stone cold when delivered to the table. Melted cheese was cold and the nachos tasted stale. However the Sunday roasts are always amazing and would recommend this but not weekday food offering. What happened to the freshly made pizzas - they were delish!

Drinks were OK, staff were friendly but ordering took a while so not enough staff were obviously on as it wasn't particularly busy in there. First time we went we ordered snacks, nachos were home cooked and food was nice. Second time (only a week later) food was disgusting. Nachos were cheap shop brought ones with what tasted like a tin of tomatoes not salsa on top, wings were tiny amounts and tasted horrible. Will never chance buying food in their again as it certainly wasn't cheap for what you got. Probably won't bother with the pub again personally.

A really really lovely pub. The staff were fantastic and couldn't do enough for us. Although there wasn't a massive selection of food, it was new years eve so that's understandable. The food was very very tasty and filling and the drinks were well made and great. The pub had an 80s band on that was brilliant and very fun. A perfect way to bring in 2022.

Last two visits Food comes out cold Yorkshire frozen in the middle Beef stone cold and raw and impossible to chew . Potatoes cold and rock hard Service friendly but waiting over an hour between courses to to served a cold roast just isn’t acceptable . Last time I eat there .

Got the wrong food and the food that I did get tasted awful and was over cooked.

Beautifully decorated with Christmas theme, unfortunately this was the best feature, staff were lovely but food was very poor, and drink selection was limited. Disappointed, this used to be a great place for a meal out!

Good atmosphere, sort of gd service but roast not very hot & sides which we paid £5 for a cauliflower cheese arrived 5 minutes before our roast & was cold by the time we ate it, Only had 3 dessert choices but when we visited 3 wks who had at least 5 & a cheese & biscuit option not today, We won’t be rushing back

The Stoneham is very cool and the staff very friendly. The roasts we ate were so tasty and plentiful. Lots of little touches that made it different and exciting. We had delicious mango chilli daiquiris and the chef even came to tell us how they made the chilli element for the drink. The atmosphere was great and the garden big and beautiful. I have booked my annual group Xmas lunch here and can't wait.

Sunday roast isn’t as stated in website, but was nice, average - had better, had worse but when paying £16 I kinda expected better. Had the roast pork, nice but no stuffing, ham hock nugget burnt, had to ask for apple sauce and then given...

Had a lovely meal with friends, the staff and barman, Dom, were great. Definitely recommend for Sunday Roast.

The Sunday dinner we had was absolutely delicious. I couldn't fault it at all. We went for the Nut Roast option. The service was excellent too.
