We made a special journey to eat here one Friday night and had telephoned earlier in the week regarding Motorhome Parking and was told it was not possible to book. We arrived on the Friday evening and went in only to be asked if we had 'booked a table'. I informed them that I had phoned earlier that week, informed them we were planning to arrive on the Friday and there had been no mention of booking. The staff were very nice, found us a place to park the Motorhome and also a Table, the Restaurant was busy but there appeared to be a few empty tables too. The food was very nice, great value and very enjoyable too.

My husband booked this restaurant for an anniversary meal for us as we were having a mini break a few miles away from here. It is a real gem of a place, quite tucked away and has a lovely outlook over the Solway Firth with a beer garden in front on the building. Inside is really eclectic, so much to look at and so quaint. The food was lovely. I had fish and chips as had heard this was something they were noted for and I wasn't disappointed. My husband had a steak and ale pie and he said it was the best he had ever had and done very differently in that it wasn't in a ceramic dish that you usually get but a pastry boat. The staff were really attentive and friendly and my husband had pre-arranged for a bottle of champagne to be waiting on our table as a surprise for me and this was sorted whilst we had a pre dinner drink in the beer garden and we were then taken to a lovely window seat table. I would recommend booking a table as they were really busy. Particular thanks to Enya for helping to make our evening a lovely memory.

Two great trips to The Steamboat with friends of late. The service has always been good and efficient and the food is good pub grub. You k is what you are going to get and should expect. Booked for lunch on 18th August. Checked menu before booking as I am a coeliac and need gluten free food and my son is a vegetarian. Although menu highlighted gluten free and vegetarian, my enquiry re the chips and onion rings revealed that these were not cooked separately and were not gluten free. I was offered and accepted alternative mashed potatoes, which were fine. My son's "vegetarian marked starter" had bacon in it! It would be much better if items could be marked that they can be made gluten free using alternative ingredients. Service was also extremely slow.

Stopped off at this venue on Sunday, were asked to sit at a table at 11.45 as the restaurant didn’t open until 12. Staff attended to two other parties, had to ask for menus to then be told they were fully booked for food. No offer of snacks or nibbles, far less a heads up at 11.45 when we arrived. Called in mid-afternoon hoping for a couple of sandwiches and a quick beer. Apparently they don't serve sandwiches but suggested we maybe try some of the hot snacks from the menu. Opted for the 'combination platter' at £14.99. . . This was without doubt a selection of supermarket frozen party food over cooked in deep fat that was clearly too hot. This should never have left the kitchen for a customer. As breakfast had been 6 hours ago we made a reluctant effort to enjoy the burnt offering in front of us! It was completely unsatisfactory. On a positive note , the beer was fine, there are great views over the Solway from some bar tables and the beer garden area and the young female member of staff was pleasant and indeed apologetic for the food we had been served.

Very disappointed! Definitely a drop in standards, in terms of food. Although, staff very friendly and attentive, premises clean and tidy. Wouldn't go back, starter which was pate was rubbery and tasteless, the onion chutney was pale and limp didn't taste that good, felt it was a bit of a Mish mash to be honest. The main meal wasn't much better, not the standard we had expected from this establishment, as we used to go alot prior to Covid. We also felt there wasn't the usual choice of meals and we weren't told of the specials for that night.

We were keen to visit here as a few folk had mentioned it to us. What a location. Just beautiful and the inside was quirky. Service very good. Seems this place has been here for ages and we were very keen to visit however despite the positives mentioned the food was a let down. The starter of mushrooms on toast was the best of all three courses we had. I had the ‘famous’ scampi which was clearly not fresh and I fail to see what was famous about defrosted scampi. The chips were hard and coleslaw homemade yes but just carrot, cabbage and watery mayonnaise. The tartar sauce was not homemade. My husband had the seafood spaghetti which looked and tasted bland and looked like they had dredged the bottom of the seabed for the sea food. For a place right by the sea the seafood should be the highlight of their menu yet only 3 seafood options, 2 of which we had and were disappointed. The special was fajitas and looked like that had been the special for ages. Also no local beers on draught. I feel this place relies on a previous reputation and has somewhat rested on its laurels. It could be so much more.

We visited this place a couple of weeks ago and decided to go back one night for a meal and then an afternoon for a quick drink in the sunshine. On the night of the meal they kindly fitted us in as we had not booked. The meal and service was outstanding. On the afternoon we called in for a quick drink. We managed to grab a table. The weather was glorious. We sat and sat waiting for table service for over 25 mins or more. We did manage to grab the attention of one waitress who advised she would come out and take our order. After a further 15 minutes she never returned but it was obvious she was doing all of the work I.e. food and drink orders clearing tables. The bar steward with long dark hair and jazzy pants we felt deliberately never looked over even when we were queuing for a table. When we left and drove past she was shuffling menus trying to look busy and did glance over as we got in the car. It was impossible to grab her attention even though we waved a few times when we sat down. We really were impressed with this place from the start and have already recommended to friends and family. Clearly this place has good staff and ones that cant be bothered. Such a shame really when people are starting to enjoy going out and the hospitality businesses are trying to recover.

Hubby got the chicken skewers and demolished them. And my remaining ribs. Mum had the steak pie and as earlier review said.. same size as her head. Full of huge chunks of delicious meat. Had to roll her to the car. Desserts were lovely although by that point they were a struggle to squeeze in. Staff very friendly and helpful. Beautiful quirky little place and I will most definitely be back. Can honestly say best meal I've had in a long time.

We have eaten here twice in the last two weeks and on both occasion have thoroughly enjoyed our visit. The first time it was a lovely sunny day with great views across the Solway but the second a wet, miserable day with no view whatsoever !Both meals were very good quality, served quickly and efficiently and equally enjoyable. The Steamboat has long had a very good reputation for very good scampi, served in either 10 or 20 portions, and we decided 15 each was the right amount - a good choice ! On our second visit we chose honey and mustard chicken on a skewar , and a gammon steak - again both good choices !One word of advice - if possible book a table before you go, to avoid disappointment - we will do so before hopefully returning again soon - thank you.

I was here with my family recently for an early dinner. I just want to talk about the Ribs. Best ribs ever and I have had many a rack in my life. Spare chunky meaty ribs with this amazing sauce over them. BBQ with a hint of chinese flavours. Out of this world. I'll move on for the ribs even though I don't want to. I got the prawn and squid started which was great and my partner got the steak pie which was the size of her head and she has a big head. It was so tasty as well.My last sentence is, GET THE RIBS PEOPLE, GET THE RIBS!!

On holiday at the Arbigland Estate we pre-booked for lunchtime and reserved again on different days for evening meals as we knew it would be popular. Staff did everything to make sure diners were comfortable and safe and all the Covid precautions were in place. Over our visits we particularly enjoyed the seafood dishes, vegetarian options, burgers and children’s menu. Lovely dining experience for all the family and we had two meals under the Eat out to Help out offer.

The Steamboat seems a great place for a meal, my fish and chips were some of the best I've had and the drinks were spot on. My partner's burger looked out of this world and no one had any complaints, but praise for the calm location and the beautiful sea vessel decor with an antique feel. I will definitely be returning in the future and would recommend.

We're on holiday from Surrey with our 2 college-age sons and had The Steamboat recommended for Sunday Lunch and were delighted we found it! Wonderful seafood, great portions and a chance to sample haggis in a burger. Host was utterly charming and all the staff very pleasant and efficient. Covid restrictions taken very seriously but not to the detriment of the atmosphere which was great - we were inside but there is an extensive outside area with amazing views of the estuary.. Can't comment on the puddings as we just didn't have any room for them, which doesn't happen very often to us!

We love to eat here when on holiday in the area and are never disappointed. The setting is perfect, the staff are friendly and helpful and the food is delicious. This time we had the Haddock and King Prawn Mornay which came with new potatoes and vegetables, it was absoloutely gorgeous. The social distancing was very organised. Our only disappointment was that due to 'eat out to help out' we couldn't be accommodated until the Thursday so we only visited once. Normally we would visit about three times during the week, but it is a very popular pub so understandable. We will definitely be back on our next holiday.

Although the location is amazing, it’s the warmth and sincerity of the staff and management that makes it truly special. We came for Sunday lunch as a family of six with two dogs on Sunday 9th August and we were not disappointed! Great portions, great food.

What a location! We ventured here for our first family meal out since lockdown and we had very fortunately booked for one of the most beautiful evenings. That meant we could sit outside and enjoy the garden, which overlooks the Solway. That alone made our family meal wonderful. Inside looked cosy and characterful too. Our food was all very nice and we enjoyed our meal. The staff delivered a relaxed experience, despite all the new rules and restrictions and I would recommend it if you are in the area at all.

Discovered the Steamboat by accident while on a short break in the area. What a fantastic find. Staff were very attentive and helpful. The menu is varied and had great vegetarian and vegan options. My husband opted for the mussels on the first visit and stated they were the best he had ever had; coming from a fussy Highlander that eats a lot of seafood, that's one hell of a compliment. We were also very impressed with the social distancing measures they currently have in place. Lots of space, hand sanitizer on every table and toilets cleaned every 15 minutes. Felt very safe and comfortable. Visited again on our final holiday night and had yet another great experience. Would absolutely visit again.

Had a lovely 2 night stay in the cottage/annex directly behind the Steamboat inn, we had a meal in the pub on saturday evening, starters of Garlic mushrooms in a blue cheese sauce & sticky spare ribs in a barbecue sauce. Main was haddock & king prawns mornay with veg absolutely delicious would recommend. Sunday the pub did a barbecue on the front which was amazing, T-Bone steak & lobster (surf & Turf).Over all our weekend stay was fabulous. The staff are brilliant very attentive looked after us well. The pub was very clean hand sanitizers everywhere on each table, well organised at keeping the distancing rules. Table service and seating arrangements made it a very very comfortable visit. It was our first time break and first time eating out since the Covid-19 pandemic. In this lovely little gem of a villiage and pub with beautiful scenery & good weather. Thank you to all the staff for making our stay so relaxed and enjoyable

My partner and I took my parents for our first meal post covid lockdown. I honestly could not fault the food! I was super impressed that they offered 2 tasty vegan options which is fantastic for Dumfries & Galloway. The restaurant has a ‘hidden gem’ vibe about it and this is definitely worth the drive out to. See ya soon!

I was very excited to visit the Steamboat after lockdown and support our local business however I was very disappointed, we ordered food and drink, but our drinks arrived after I finished my food even though we enquired about the delay, then we ordered dessert and drinks and they forgot our order, 45 minutes later and again having to raise the issue, they were apologetic and tried to resolve our issue but this also happened to us last year, sadly we won’t be back due to poor service! Food is excellent quality though!

We visited The Steamboat on a short holiday to Galloway Forest Park. What a find. Welcomed us even with our 3 dogs (spaniels). Loved it so much the first time we visited again on our way home. Lovely log fires with comfy chairs right in front. Staff were chatty and friendly and didny even mind when our soppy spaniel sat in our lap on the comfy chair! Great food. We had Nachos to share the first time and subsequently couldn't even order a main as so full, so we had a desert too! Second time we had ribs and a steak pie. The fattest most succulent ribs ever and the pie was full of big chunks of steak. Really reasonable price too. Oh and you can play pool for free! Great location, great pub, totally reccomend

Stopped in Moffat en route to Glasgow on business. Unfortunately,I had the misfortune to be served by an extremely unfriendly and unhelpful sales assistant. This type of person used to be know as a chav. Whoever owns the business needs to be more careful who they hire. The sandwich wasn't even third rate and ended up in the bin. Take my advice give this bakers a miss.

Is it ok for a hospitality business not to take any details from customers during this time I think this is very irresponsible and I do hope no one has the virus and just carries on passing it because this business does not care, not one member of staff had a mask on and members of the public could go behind the bar and serve customers if the staff where busy
