A small village pub with several small eating areas and a large garden. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. There is a wide range of beers including the local Adnams. We visited several times as we were staying in the village but Sunday evening, being a very limited pizza night, was disappointing and didn't live up to the 5 star ratings elsewhere on Trip Adviser. However, when we returned on Friday evening the place was packed, there was a full and interesting menu and our 8 oz. steaks were delicious. Being a Friday, we should have booked

We visited the evening we were staying in the village and so pleased we did. It was recommended we book a table, and although we were eating relatively early, half way through the evening pretty much all the tables were taken.

This is a really genuine and friendly local pub. A great place for a good meal, good beer and a chat. Great atmosphere. The food is really very good. Try the vegetable tagine.

Lighthouse

30/09/2019: We booked for a late lunch, and glad we did. The whole restaurant was full apart from our table waiting for us. The greeting we got from the staff was great and we ordered a lovely bottle of white wine and then ordered the crab salad, calves liver and steak. All were absolutely amazing. We have been coming to the Lighthouse for a number of years, and we both agreed that the food was the best it's ever been.
14/10/2019: The Lighthouse has a special feel and this was our fifth visit in the space of ten years. The food, as usual, was exquisite and even a reluctant fish eater in our party was won over by the sheer passion of the waiter when talking through the specials.

Old Chequers Inn

08/11/2019: Our second visit to The Chequers and we were pleased we returned. The welcome was warm and very friendly and decor clean and simple. There were locals around the bar but plenty of people eating leading to a buzzy atmosphere. My hunnie had the roast dinner which he was very impressed with and I has the veggie burger which was tasty with perfectly cooked chips. Lucking we had room for dessert. The ginger rice pudding had been popular as we had the last portion which was delicious along with the berries Eton mess which was yummy. This was all washed down with a very good Malbec. Without hesitation...we will definitely return.
25/06/2019: Popped in here before heading on to an evening concert at Snape Maltings. Was a real delight. Really warm welcome by the Pub Owner and his wife who squeezed us in among the busy bookings that night. Even got the kitchen to deliver promptly at 6 pm. The menu was great and the fish pie was one of the best we had tasted for a while. And the Suffolk Ham was thickly sliced and as tasty as it looked. The pub is one of the rare independents from the Adams’ stranglehold in the area so it was good to try the Woodford’s Wherry for a change. The village is indeed fortunate to have such a local drinking establishment. We were sorry we could not have stayed longer.
