We met some friends there for lunch. I had never heard of the place so was doubtful but had a warm welcome from both the landlord and landlady. Food was superb and very well priced an lots o choice. Could have stayed all day!

This family pub was absolutely buzzing on a Wedensday evening, really busy and we were pleased to have a table. We had three courses and the food was really good, though there was a limited choice for someone who has to avoid citrus, it was easy to check this and good that they were so knowledgable on ingredients – Vegetable lasagne, generous portion. Chocolate pot desert was very good. More Ghost Ship 0.5%.

We booked a table for the Friday evening as we were staying in the village for a weekend break with friends. It's a proper pub with real fires, old tin signs and pics on the walls and quirky ornaments which added to its character. We knew they were dog friendly but when we turned up they said dogs can go anywhere and our dogs were given treats and fusses. The owners were really friendly and the food was really good, with decent size portions at a good price. I think the negative reviews about the landlord is because the reviewer didn't get his sense of humour ( very dry but we thought he was funny). Both him and the landlady couldn't have been more welcoming. We tried to book a table for the following night but they were full and we didn't want to chance it so we went to the other pub at the other end of the village (that was nice too) but they advised us that on the Sunday there was live music (no food served) so we 'popped in for a drink', and although packed we managed to get seats and ended up staying for a couple of hours as we felt so comfortable chatting to a couple of locals and other weekenders. The landlady came over with some nibbles and asked how one of our dogs was as he was having trouble with his paws and also asked if we'd enjoyed our visit to Southwold etc. which was nice that she remembered our conversations with her on the Friday.Wish it was our local...Thank you for making our weekend event better

18/03/2020: Good service and nice food. There are some walks nearby through the very attractive town. Easily reached by foot but beware of parking facilities in Southwold are limited
02/02/2020: Only went here for coffee but having seen the menu and how attractive the restaurant looked I will certainly be returning for a meal next time I am in the area. Staff were very pleasant and everywhere looked fresh and cared for.

Old Chequers Inn

09/03/2020: We are so happy to be in walking distance to this wonderful pub! Owners very welcoming (as were the locals) food excellent, very clean and doggie friendly which is perfect for us dog lovers. Highly recommend!
11/02/2020: We wondered over from our holiday cottage with our dog in tow to be greeted by a very welcoming landlord. We were given a choice of tables and more than enough space to accommodate our young but sizeable labradoodle. The food was top class, we had roast beef and roast pork and both were cooked to perfection. Nice deserts finished of a very enjoyable meal. We will be back next year for sure.
