Awful food . Staff service was average . Roast dinner was a poor excuse for food , one over cooked roast potato and beef that was so overcooked it was like leather . Would not recommend and certainly won’t return . Did advise the staff the staff but quite uninterested. I asked for no red cabbage and the veg was not sustituted so if I didn’t have my husbands peas the veg was hideous . Hidden in that pot of cheese sauce was a floret of cauliflower the size of a teaspoon

Proper good Boozer. 1 Cask Ale pump. Plenty of lager & cider taps. Around 9 TV sports screens. Liked it.

Booked a table for my son and l. We arrived 50 mins early so thought we would grab a drink first but we were given our table on arrival. Menus were fantastic with a separate menu with today’s specials - also a board showing all the extra items available. I chose the macaroni cheese and my son chose the lasagne - both were delicious 😋 all homemade and one of the best Mac & Cheese l have had in a long time. staff were lovely - very welcoming and friendly and l will definitely be back next time we are in Moffat.

Stayed one night room v.clean with everything needed .star bar at the rear relaxing and 6 TV screens .upstairs bar and restaurant also comfortable and relaxing home made pies are superb and the sticky toffee pudding awesome with great service thanks will definitely be back if in the area !

An excellent find just 2 miles off the A74(M) in Moffat. A warm welcome at the World’s Narrowest Hotel. The food was hot, fresh and homemade. I cannot recommend it highly enough!

Have visited several times before but have always missed a Sunday roast so being a Sunday visit ,had to have it ! Well satisfied with it ,although the daily specials were tempting me ! Always visit here for food when in Moffat,never disappointed 😍Cosy pub lounge bar and great value 👍

The back bar in the Star Hotel is a cracking little pub. Given the lack of space in the famous hotel as a whole (it’s the narrowest hotel in the world) the bar is surprisingly roomy and is decorated in traditional pub style. It clearly sees itself as a bit of a sports bar these days and there are several screens on the walls. The service is good and there’s a good range of beers (including one hand-pulled real ale). This is a really good bar and it’s worth mentioning that the food looks good too.

Superb food. We were staying in Moffat and I did some browsing on where to eat. Most places had pictures of plates with a bit of food arranged in the middle. This place at least looked like proper food. I wasn't wrong. An excellent portion of really good steak and ale pie with ample chips and good vegetables. Such a shame that there is nowhere nearly half as good where I live in the Peak District. Highly recommended and will definitely return if I am passing again. Do book a table in advance if you want to eat in the bar rather than the upstairs restaurant.

We managed to get a table upstairs , 5 pm & already busy. The menu had a good choice & we chose haggis neeps & tatties , gammon steak with pineapple & fried egg, & a child’s portion of Mac n cheese. The gammon steak was absolutely amazing! The service was really good by 2 young ones , most attentive & we were fell fed & back on the road for the last part of the journey !

Dropped in on the off-chance when we were passing through the village- really glad we did! Excellent food with polite & efficient service, pricing very reasonable. Would definitely return!

Great traditional pub grub. The food surpassed any expectations in this very traditional looking pub. Service was great with welcoming friendly staff.

Stopped for lunch and dined in the bar. Traditionally decorated, but looking tired, perhaps taking some of the tat off the walls might help? Staff seemed rushed off their feet dealing with diners and people checking into the hotel and as a result one or two servers weren't at their best, with one lady not keen on placing plates down, but rather dropping them on the table. Food was fine, very standard fare. It was fine, but I regret not going elsewhere.

Het was er heel druk en gelukkig hadden wij een tafel gereserveerd op voorhand. Toch was het een vlotte en gezellige bediening aan tafel, terwijl je normaal in Schotland moet bestellen aan de bar. Opvallend de grote porties van de hoofdschotel, vergis je niet want als je drie gangen neemt krijg je alles niet op. Het eten was lekker, goed warm en simpel opgediend.

The staff are very pleasant. There is always a selection of well kept beers. The food is traditional, well cooked and well priced. Lovely atmosphere.

after squeezing through the doorway entrance smokers and opening the door into the bar we were confronted with a jam packed bar with people standing around drinking . table occupancy were well over the covid rules.we had no option to walk out as we value our lives more .hope the management takes note.

Had an evening meal on our overnight stop in Moffat. Popular hotel, but we managed to get a table. At the time we were under Covid restriction so no alcohol.My wife had a Caesar salad and I had the chilli, both were most enjoyable.Good, polite service. Certainly recommend the Star.

We visited for dinner this evening.For starters we had pate and prawn cocktail- both were very good.Our mains were Steak pie , chips and veg which I would rate as distinctly average.My husband has salmon - he ordered chips but was served new potatoes- this wasn’t really an issue as they were very busy . The girl who served us was lovely, very friendly and chatty- our visit was made much better by her attitude.All in all we would say that the meal was average- staff were working hard in difficult circumstances due to covid-19 restrictions.If you want a quiet romantic mealWe would say this isn’t the place for you . We visited this pub for a casual lunch. We were shown to a table away from the other guests who were dining. However, as time went in almost every table was occupied which meant distancing was not being adhered to. To add to this the waitress was wearing her facemask under her nose! The restaurant was quite aged looking and in need to a makeover. The food we ordered, a toastie and sausages and mash were good enough but the service was indifferent. Our contact details were taken but that was the only measure that seemed to be adhered to.

Allegedly the narrowest hotel in the world, we three aging motorcyclists received the best welcome possible. Covid restrictions had closed most restaurants in Moffat so we were just about to revert to the local chippy when we came across The Star. The landlady went out of her way to make room for us in the bar restaurant and could not have been more helpful. Beer and home made food was not only plentiful and top quality but also very reasonably priced. Very highly recommended for a return visit.

Drinks after a riverside walk. Right in the centre, there was even space outside for a few tables to sit and enjoy our drinks. Staff were friendly and drinks reasonably priced. Plenty of people eating their Sunday lunch! Food smelled lovely, just a shame we had already eaten!

Had a late Sunday Lunch here and it was very good. Pretty good value at £10 I would say. But the best bit by far was the Sticky Toffee Pudding. Definitely sticky!Slightly disappointed to be told they needed the table back after less than 2 hours but I guess they need to squeeze as many people in as possible in these Covid times.

Had one of the best Steaks I've ever had also try the Banoffee desert, mouth watering Service really good and very reasonably priced

We had a lovely meal here on Sat 12th. The restaurant was well spaced and clean. The food was excellent. I opted for the pie special and I was certainly not disappointed. The portions were very generous and full of flavour. When we visit Moffat again we will definitely be eating here

A return visit with friends the food as always was excellent and good value, and the staff again pleasant with excellent Covid 19 procedures.

We enjoyed a lovely meal with family and friends. The staff were excellent, observing all the current covid19 regulations. Our room was cosy, very clean and comfortable. I would happily recommend a stay and look forward to another. Full Scottish breakfast was so good it kept us going all day!

Went to the Star on a Thursday for dinner, the last day of our stay in Moffat. It was not very busy, probably due to the terrible weather and SD restrictions. The food in the Star was excellent! And a full menu which we had not seen in the three other places we had eaten during our stay. All four of us had three courses and we all enjoyed each one. The staff were also excellent. If in Moffat you must try the Star!!

Avoid at all costs because it will cost you to have drink in the place. Was charged £5.10 for a pint of lager. Still in shock. To top it all the bar is a dump. Even the barman was embarrassed.

We visited on our way home from a short break near Dumfries. Loved the cosy, friendly atmosphere at the Star. Our waitress was lovely. Really welcoming and nothing was too much trouble The menu had a great selection of dishes to choose from.. We had main courses of Scampi and Angus Cheeseburger. Our meals were beautifully cooked and perfectly presented. Really generous servings and absolutely delicious. The Star Sundae was a work of art but my son quickly demolished it! Thank you for a lovely meal which was the perfect end to our holiday and thank you for wonderful service.

We have had many meals in The Famous Star and every one has been good. All the staff are friendly and helpful. The food is perfectly cooked.

Went to the restaurant to enjoy a celebration meal with my friends. Restaurant and lounge bar area were full of people eating. Always a good sign. Staff served the table well including my birthday cake. Food of good quality and well priced for location. Would go back again.Worth booking so as not to be disappointed esp at weekends.

We often visit Moffat and look to eat elsewhere but always end up at the Star for lunch. Food is always great and the staff friendly and helpful.

Stayed here with a few friends for a night away. We had a very warm welcome from the bar staff who showed us to our rooms straight away. The beds were so comfortable and we had a lovely sleep. We had some drinks in the bar and the bar lady was lovely and recommended what worked well with certain spirits. The rooms were so fresh and clean and most definitely value for money. Breakfast was cooked to perfection in the morning as well. The hotel smelt very clean and fresh throughout. We needed an ironing board during our stay and they got it for us straight away with no problem. We will definitely use this hotel again when we come back.

We did not stay here but are proud to say we have been in the world's narrowest hotel for tea. I was impressed by the quantity of gluten-free pudding they offered and by the fact that they also had vegan ice-cream!

Been in Moffat for 7 days over New Year and frequented all the establishments including the Star which we were in on four occasions for food and or drinks. On our last visit at the end of our meal we requested a glass of soda water. We duly received a small glass (about a third of a pint) on its own, nothing special such as a slice of lemon or anything. Regardless of the cost of everything we had we were shocked at the cost. £1.50 for a glass of soda out of the gun. When we questioned the cost the only reply was “I don’t make the prices”. As much as the establishment was a very good “average” it would make us avoid it on future visits as matter of principle. We don’t mind paying the going rate but object to being ripped off!

Today on the way home from seeing relatives in Edinburgh we called in at The Star Hotel located in the High Street in Moffat and had a really delicious ham salad washed down with diet coke in Ally's restaurant which is on the first floor of the hotel which I really liked as there is plenty of room. Other reasons why I like The Star are that the place is warm and cosy, plenty of room in the upstairs restaurant, the staff are friendly and the welcome is warm. i would recommend this place

The narrowest hotel in the world. We went here for lunch in the quirky thin bar. Nice couple of pints and friendly staff. I had the Haggis, neeps and Tatties meal with whisky sauce. It was to die for. Fantastic lunch dish which I highly recommend.

I'm always on the lookout for something different and I found it here tonight. Haggis lasagne. Don't let the name put you off. The haggis flavour is quite subtle, the portion size just right. Chips, baked potato or large salad are the choices to go with it. It's on the specials board at the moment, but it should be on the permanent menu.

Really cosy but quirky bar and restaurant. We had a nice bar meal for lunch and returned in the evening to be greeted like regulars. Bar staff are efficient and very friendly. Highly recommended.
