Lovely Sunday lunches and good small plates rest of the week

I regularly eat Sunday lunch here and am always impressed by the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff and owner and, of course, the mahoosive, perfectly prepared, delicious Sunday Roast. Thank you. Oh yes, the coffee is excellent as well.

Nice place, good service. Wish the kitchen opened a little later that's all 😊

Went to The Star last night for the first time. We ordered a Calabrese and Mad Dog pizza, but I didn't realise they would be some of the most delicious, fresh, traditional Italian pizzas we have tasted. Everything about the place is lovely. The bar staff are lovely. Marco and a lad from Yorkshire. We can't wait to go back to see what the Sunday roast is like. We're taking my Cocker Spaniel next time; he'll love it in there. The pizzas are really reasonably priced.

Always a fantastic calm and relaxing atmosphere with great service. Pizzas are Sourdough Saloon and definitely worth having. We have had them to eat in there and also through Deliveroo.

My first British Pub with the feeling that I’ve been a local for years. Very welcoming with great dishes and a nice pub atmosphere.

Good food, good drinks (particularly enjoyed the Jack Frost Christmas cocktail). Enjoyably busy, understaffed but staff were efficient. Don't try and joke with the owner, he won't appreciate it. Other staff lovely.

Really enjoyable Sunday afternoon spent enjoying the best roast dinner I have had for some time. The beef was perfectly cooked and the trimmings were delicious. Many thanks to the staff who were friendly and efficient.

This is our go-to local and ticks all the boxes. Staff are friendly, food is great and vibe is perfect. There’s a great beer garden too for the summer and the whole pub is dog friendly! The events are varied and fun so I’d recommend going along to anything that’s on.

Outstanding. New management, new food, more atmosphere. 8 of us, 8 roasts, desserts, wine, beer, fizz. The food was lovely, staff were really attentive. Such a good atmosphere across the pub. Marco was brilliant at communicating before and the team were great on the day. Well done all.

Had a fabulous Sunday lunch at the Star recently and was blown away by the quality (and quantity) of the food and great service. They have a lovely food menu and a wide range of drinks in a comfy and cosy setting. The staff are attentive and on the ball and the portions are very generous for the price you pay which is very reasonable for London! The bar is also dog friendly so you can bring your pooch along and then go for a walk on the Commons afterwards to work it all off. Hope to be back again some day soon! :)

Such a lovely pub, really good atmosphere. The staff are so friendly and can’t do enough for you. The food was delicious. Will definitely be coming back. Cannot recommend enough!

We were in the upstairs area for a family gathering, so can't comment on the main pub area. The buffet was nice it was a pleasant atmosphere and the staff were excellent.

Yeehaw! What a fab night that was at The Star in that there Plumstead! I have "Live, Laugh, Love" on my living room wall and I did all three! I literally danced my pants off, as the elastic in my y-fronts snapped! I haven't laughed so much since my nanna caught her nipple in the mangle! The sirloin of beef roast dinner was amazing 10/10 . Was such a nice vibe on a Sunday afternoon highly recommend.

Went a cold drink in a very hot day. Fully air conditioning. Clean and good atmosphere. Staffs are friendly. Will definitely visit again.

The pizza is good. The manager was incredibly rude and abusive. Both times I came here the pizza took over 40 minutes to come out. Definitely understaffed and I personally feel sorry for the pizza chef who is clearly on his own down there, with the manager not being able to control the orders that come in. Tried to charge me for sauce, and then accused me of being rude when I mentioned the ridiculous wait time. Don't waste your time here.

We booked a table on Wednesday for the following day as we were interested in participating in their pub quiz. As we were making the reservation on the phone, there had been an exchange of back and forth information about their kitchen missing a chef and not being able to serve food. However we kept the booking and the following day did a follow up call to double check if we would get served food - it was confirmed that the kitchen would be open and able to serve. Although the pub confirmed to us food would be available, when we got to the venue we were informed the kitchen had to shut down and food wasn't available. As it was a special family evening we had planned, being able to understand the situation, we were left disappointed as no kind gesture was offered to us know their behalf for apologising for the inconvenience caused that evening.

Just dropped in for a quick drink. It looks good and feels friendly and welcoming. Can't wait to try the pizza.

The Star is a favourite pub in the area. It’s my local and I’m very happy that it is. Choice of beer is good, Pizzas are excellent and the drag quiz is great fun. But what makes this pub is the team that work here. Great job guys.

Lovely pub with great food. Went for a pizza that was very tasty. Service at the bar could be a little quicker but not enough to put me off from returning.

Unbelievable service, standard and atmosphere. We’ve dined here a few times and have loved it. Today a larger group for Father’s Day were left full to the brim all of us thoroughly enjoyed our meals, even the picky kids who were catered for. Such a relaxed friendly pub, we lost track of time. The staff are all fantastic, so friendly and accommodating. Highly recommend for groups of all sizes (and dogs).

ABUSIVE STAFF!! DO NOT GO HERE!! If I could leave zero stars I would. Also witnessed the general manager abusing the kitchen staff as well as customers. Absolutely disgusting and deserves to be fired.

This pub has left the best impressions! Hospitable hosts, amazing pizzas, beautiful ambiance. I recommend to everyone! I would like to come back here again and again.

I went on Good Friday and they had no ale no Malibu and resorted to a snowball but didn’t even have that so won’t be back very poor

Had the wake for my dad here. Staff were very helpful. Food spread was perfect and delicious, not your normal fare. Beer selection was good and not your normal brands.

Was charged £5.95 for a literally a spoonful of stodgy tasteless Mac and cheese, the cheese was almost imperceptible, very little choice on menu except pizzas and the alpine menu god knows what that was like but I saw the bratwurst hot dog with sauerkraut, pale and flaccid looked as though it was straight out of the factory and microwaved . Very angry and resentful, was hungry and cold , felt mugged.

The highlight of the menu are yummy pizza’s. Truly fantastic customer service 6* Sunday Roast though is not the strongest point of this place.

A pizza pub for the pizza pub people of Plumstead. You're never going to be without a seat in this place as it's absolutely cavernous and also has a decent sized garden with lovely wooden booths that would probably be pleasant even if it was chucking it down. Their selection of ales is fairly conservative but decent enough.

I leave in the area for in the area for 10years! And I know most of the Pubs locally I'm quite fussy!!! But The Star it's the Best Pub you can go too!!! Either on your own or with family!!! The Stuff is really polite and friendly especially Anthony as a bar manager and Anna as a chef you can't look for better than that!!! I recommend them to friends and family. Very friendly staff, delicious fairly priced sourdough pizzas and a fast kitchen turnaround, great selection of drinks, a great Wednesday pub quiz, a very lovely beer garden and they're always playing some absolute bangers over the sound system. Literally the only pub on Plumstead Common worth visiting, and it's a better pizza place than Franco Mancas to boot!

Our 2-year old always shouts: "Let's go to the pub!" when we pass the Star :D So we made it our Friday pitch stop after work ha ha. Great staff, pizzas and handy kiddie options with good selection of beer for the adults. Just what we need after a long week.

Good beer selection, tasty food. Unfortunately the toilets were appalling - no soap (which they clearly knew about as hand sanitiser was placed by the sink) and the toilet seat in the gents was not attached.

A nice pub and no smelly carpet. Friendly staff, good pizzas and a convivial atmosphere. Kids in the lounge with their parents and people watching football in the bar area. A good local vibe.

Nice rustic decor, roomy, beer garden and dog friendly too. The staff are also polite and helpful. The pizza served here is very tasty and we will be coming back for more. Only thing that detracts from the experience for me was the condition of the toilets.

A Good pint and a nice establishment

I held a sit down dinner for my 40th birthday in the function room upstairs and it was wonderful. Courses came out like clockwork and food was lovely. The staff were very helpful and efficient. Thank you so much for making my birthday one to remember. My celebration was truly better than I expected.

Good pizza with flavoursome premium ingredients. In my experience they do tend to like to load the cheese towards the centre which can prevent the centre cooking as much as I like and I struggle to explain what I mean when ordering. But although I have had better it would cost a fair bit more so for an eat in pizza it is good value. Beer is okay but really I find the selection of spirits more adventurous. Looking forward to their midweek food specials to come back, they were excellent.

Lovely atmosphere and great staff! But, what got my heart about this place is the food. Pizza and pasta like you would check if you're in Italy. Please try the lasagna, try some pizza, garlic bread... anything you order will be above your expectations. My regards to the chef and kitchen staff!

The best pizza in the area. Good wide choice, kids size pizza available. Only one thing to note - too much cheese on Margarita, would like to get the right balance of tomato sauce and cheese.

Large salad is exactly the same size as the small salad but £6 more. I called up and they said they put more ingredients in the box, but the box was the same size. This was a lie. THEIVES.

Been meaning to eat pizza here for some time and it didn't disappoint. It was delicious. Only one beer on but it was very nice. They did have a cider on but it was to strong for me. I was allowed to bring my bike in and the staff were friendly. Prices were typical for the area What more could you ask for. Oh and it's lucky I like Jazz

Honest review: Great Food, Lovely staff, and it was quite a nice environment aesthetically and in terms of sound. The pub seems like have better food than normal pubs with the sights of many people ordering delivery from this place, a compliment to their food quality. They also have the option of watching football there however only with a single TV, I guess for me that’s even better since it does not get as packed as the other pubs. The upstairs offers a private pool in a room, quite nice if you want to play in private. Overall a great experience the many times I’ve been there. Would highly recommend :)

Great staff great food great service

Friendly pub, great pizzas. But best of all is the beer garden: it's so private that you could be anywhere on a sunny Sunday enjoying a roast lunch with friends. Don't get me wrong, there's plenty of room, it's just that the atmosphere is convivial. It's popular so the service is slower than I'd like, hence only 4*.

Covid secure, good yorkies, shame the tats weren't up to the same standard, as they were lacking in terms of crispiness and tasted a bit like a predone frozen spud. It was a bit of a let down! The focaccia and pizza were both also good quality, as was the tiramisu. Yes, I ate multiple meals! A good range of beers on offer too should that be your cup of tea!

Really pleased we dropped in for lunch last Saturday. The staff were absolutely brilliant - making us feel very welcome. There's good beer on tap and the sourdough pizzas were delicious (also a really generous size). This is a fantastic pub and we'll definitely be back!
