We walked in without a booking about 3.30pm and managed to get a seat straight away. Very friendly staff. We ordered a sharing platter of roast beef/pork and turkey. The roast spuds were to die for as was the gravy. The vegetables including the cauliflower cheese were delicious. Would definitely go again

Very friendly welcome and a lovely looking pub and restaurant. The food was very good but the service was lacking a bit. Ordered wine when the mains came out and they turned up after we had finished which was disappointing Did also see someone go to the bar rather than use the waitresses. I think it needs more attentive drinks waiters bit cannot criticise the food at all,it was very good

We stopped on the way to Huntingdon, for a light lunch. Lovely pub/restaurant. We were just after usual finishing time for lunch but one of the staff said she should be able to get the chef to feed us! We chose turkey & stuffing, and halloumi & onion chutney, both open on sourbread. Plus chips! They came beautifully presented with pea shoots and leaves, and the turkey had delicious dripping gravy to pour over. Both were superb and although "open" were easy to eat as the bread was crispy and soft - perfect! But, in addition, the chips were delicious! Home-made and probably 2 or 3 times fried. Without doubt as good as the best pub sandwiches we've ever had! The service was great, always with a smile. If the main menu is as good, it would be well worth trying! Highly recommended.

Terrible experience. Sat down for dinner at table 106, that’s where the problem started, the table was sticky and horrid (needs sanding down and varnishing). Ordered drinks (which never arrived, whilst we were half way through the dinner we cancelled them as by now we wanted to leave asap). We went for the shared roast, all meets were cheap and nasty, side vegetables were over cooked, cauliflower cheese had no flavour nor where the roast potatoes seasoned. I did get a glance at some puddings and they looked decorative but we cannot comment as we did not fancy stopping. Food was not inedible just tasteless and uninspiring.

Explained discretely at the bar that the wine by the glass I'd been served in the restaurant area was of poor quality. Offered a replacement, but declined. At the end of our meal I received a lecture at our table that no-one had ever complained about their wine before. This was in front of the three people I was eating with. We had been celebrating the life of a dear friend who had passed away unexpectedly. The food was generally very good. Would not go again though.

Absolutely beautiful food and lovely service. The menu is well thought out and executed brilliantly. We had 3 tapas for starters (cod bites with chips, battered aubergine and breaded camembert bites) which were all perfect and crispy, not at all greasy. For mains we had the pork belly with colcannon and the stilton, broccoli and leek lasagne. The pork belly was soft and the colcannon was so creamy and delicious. The lasagne was warming and so satisfying for a wet rainy day in October. We shared the chocolate fudge cake, finished it so quickly we didn't even get a picture, it's home made and decadent without being too sugary. I would absolutely come back any day!

I try never written a bad review, because I feel it could be a bad day in the kitchen. However I was surprised and disappointed having read some of the positive reviews, just how awful the meal was! All I can say is maybe the pub is under new management? It reminded us of the old fashioned pubs with a menu comprising of interesting named dishes only to be served up as 'Slops'. Tasteless and unappetising. I had the Brie and Beetroot tart, it really had seen better days. The puff pastry was really oily, with a soggy base, with what could only amount to as a congealed sauce, sitting on top lay sliver of beetroot, completely revolting! It came accompanied with soggy chips which had seen better days! I asked for the salad which I had been told would accompany the dish, eventually some iceberg leaves, tomato and onion arrived. Bringing some excitement to the meal!! The two guys in our party had the steak pie, it was congeileid and unappetising , with no flavour, we were left questioning where the mash potato had originated? A packet? The fourth dish was the chicken which had to be sent back owing to the salad it rested upon being all dried up. The service was very good and as the waitress came to take our dishes away she asked how our food had been? As she cast her eyes over the food left on our plates, she said she would tell the chef we were not happy. That was the last we saw of her. A sullen casher took the full payment for our 'Meal 'with no reference to our complaint, just responded with distain! We will not be returning! What concerns me more, as we holiday in the U.K. is please let us not be returning to the 50' when people just accepted bad food and lodgings, we have some of great gastro pubs, this should have been one of them, but sadly it isn't!

Made the unfortunate mistake of booking the Stag for a recent celebration. The management showed a lack of customer service, were abrasive, unreasonable and nowhere to be seen on the day the event took place. Arrived at the pub. No staff to greet or welcome us despite paying the best part of nearly £200 for the privilege. Quite honestly I could have cried when the buffet arrived. I felt genuinely embarrassed towards my guests, who had traveled from all over the country. Bog standard soggy sandwiches, a measly portion of wedges and frozen microwave spring rolls. In hindsight I should have ordered a buffet from Marks and Spenser and held the event at my home. Do not part with your hard earned cash at this "establishment" it needs a compete overhaul. Beginning with the utter lack of competency from it's"management" The building and setting is about all it has going for it. The Stag has such potential. Whoever owns it, please take note; You could do so much better!!

Went for a family birthday meal. The staff were lovely and attentive, however the food was nothing special. All of our dinners were average at best, mostly quite bland and uninteresting. My husband had the lasagna - don’t pick this if you want a filling meal as the portion is absolutely tiny, especially considering it costs almost £12! Even the child’s lasagna was tiny and our daughter is only 2 and a half and she’d eaten it within 3 bites and was then after everyone else’s meals, no way would it have been filling enough for any older kids, again especially at the price it was nearly £7. The whole place isn’t hugely expensive but for the quality and quantity of the food you’d get a tastier & larger meal elsewhere cheaper.

We waited nearly 30 minutes for food to arrive & the vegetables were cold. We sent them back & on their return it was obvious they had been put in a microwave & had gravy poured over them. Even without this the vegetables were overcooked & it now looked awful. This must have been the worst experience of a Sunday lunch ever & I certainly would never recommend the place to anyone. We went to the Stags Head for lunch on the Monday only because it was the only date our friends could fit in. It's quite a large place easily reached in the village and looks attractive inside. We were shown to our pre booked table and given attractive menus and then left and left and left. Eventually I went to the bar and ordered some drinks. The barmaid offered to bring them to our table in a tone of voice which suggested she thought she was doing us a favour. She appeared to be the only member of staff actually serving customers though a couple of other black clothed ladies bustled about from time to time. Nothing wrong with the London Pride which was the only Cask Ale I could see. I had Moules to start and the ones which were open were fine. For the main course I had the sweet and spicy chicken which was nice but not a lot of it. My friend had the 1/2 roast chicken of which there was a lot but it was dry. The Sea Bass and the last Lasagne and the steak pie were all enjoyed. For pudding I had the Waffle with Ice Cream. The parts that I could break off were nice. Unfortunately the last quarter resisted my attempts with Spoon, Fork and Knife and eventually threw itself on the floor.

A disappointing visit to the Stags Head for a Sunday Roast. Two of our party ordered the mixed meat roasts; the turkey and pork were really tasty but the rest of the meal was just "alright". The Yorkshire pudding was as flat as a pancake and the stuffing ball was over cooked and shrunken. Vegetables were parsnips, greens (very watery) and peas which had also been overcooked. We had 3 small potatoes. The meal arrived covered in gravy. I think a better option would be to have gravy in a boat to self pour. Our party also had a steak & ale suet pudding which was thoroughly enjoyed and a lamb shank which was very tasty. The service was friendly and polite. The pub looked inviting.

On first appearances this place has everything required for a quiet family meal, warm cosy pub atmosphere, extremely friendly staff and plenty to choose from on the menu.Sadly after that it's all downhill if you decide to order anything other than traditional pub grub such as steak or pie as the a-la-carte menu offers a wide range of choice of what I can only assume is pre-cooked and badly re-heated food.Whilst the waitress was fully apologetic and knocked money off the bill for 2 poorly heated starters (although only one had been knocked off the bill) which were warm on one side and cold on the other (rib of pork) and also reduced the bill for a main which was Cajun pork that had the appearance of Sunday roast pork over cooked in the first place and then re-heated which obviously resulted in leather medallions. My wife's pie was superb and my sons steak was cooked to perfection but the chips served with this were not entirely cooked through.Yes I am thankful that some money was knocked off the bill but would much rather have enjoyed a meal rather than having to go home and cook myself something. Everyone makes mistakes but looking at other reviews it would appear similar mistakes have happened in the past which annoys me further that they have not listened and improved.Incredibly I still left a tip as the service was exceptionally friendly and to be honest I felt a little sorry for them as they seemed embarrassed. Sack the chef and get one that can cook and you have a winner.

Went here for a family event - really pricey menu - but don't mind if its top notch - little things sat waiting for and had to ask for drinks/wine list nothing offered, then did not seem to anything about house wine etc. - did not see the same/waitress twice, had a to ask for a pasta spoon twice in the end got one off another table. Two of us had lasagne - £11 really plain lacked flavour came with frozen fried chips. Husband had the steak pie he said the same that it had no flavour - daughter had homemade soup as a starter which was nice - but left all her main course - final straw was the coffees - served with no milk or sugar waited another 10 minutes - so then cold (tasked like water)

My partner and I, along with our 2 children (5 & 7) had a lovely evening here, this evening. When we arrived we thought it looked very pretty, a very traditional village pub. The inside decor and furniture is quite dated but it adds to the village pub feel. The waitress who greeted us was really lovely and very polite. It was great to see they had a children's menu, a main menu and a Sunday special menu, meaning we had lots of delicious sounding dishes to choose from, a great wine selection also. Our starters arrived promptly and were delicious, followed by our main courses which were absolutely spot on, real home cooked food, great portion sizes and amazingly all served at the same time and all still hot- a rarity these days, even within well known chain establishments. We had a fab couple of hours here and can promise we will be returning very soon. Keep up the good work!! The combination of ambiance, good food and lovely staff are providing a really lovely place for people to visit.

We visited this restaurant for a family Birthday, not having been before. There were 8 of us and had travelled around 45minutes to get there. The service was fine and we ordered our food. 3 of us had the Lamb Shank. 3 had the suet pudding, one had sausage and mash and one had lasagne. When the food arrived, straight away, we could see that the mash potato looked rather odd. A bit like porridge. runny and lumpy and curiously white in colour. We all tried the mash and our immediate reaction was that it was cold. Aside from this, it was very lumpy and tasted of nothing. When the waitress came over, we advised her of this and she asked us if we wanted it replacing. Rather than having hot lumpy mash, we just asked for a couple of bowls of chips to share. While the mash potato eaters were talking to the waitress, the others had each tried their meals and theirs were also cold. In the end the lasagne and three lamb meals were taken back and the meals with mash were waiting for chips. The chips came after around 10 minutes so our food was half eaten and cold. The lamb shank and lasagne came out after another 10 minutes so they were eating their meals whilst we had finished ours. Even if the food had been piping hot, it was not the best quality or taste. The suet pudding was hard on the outside, as if it had been re-heated in the microwave. We could only really eat the contents and even then, we were spitting out gristle. The bill came and no money had been knocked off. One of us went to the bar to argue our case that we wouldn't possibly be expected to pay the full amount as not one meal was edible. Their first offer was to take one meal off of the bill and then two...we stood firm and advised we would only be prepared to pay for half of the meals and even that was pushing it. After about 20 minutes, they agreed. They even said that they had never had a complaint before and everyone likes the mash...I can see from the other reviews on Trip Advisor that this is not the case. To add to this, I woke up in the middle of the night and felt extremely ill and proceeded to be ill for a lot of the night. I am 37 weeks pregnant and this could have been fatal to my baby. I think its safe to say that this has been the worst restaurant experience we have had. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone and would question the cooking methods in regards to reheating of food. The first warning is the size of the menu. It is huge and there is no way that with a menu that large, food can be cooked fresh.

We had read the reviews and decided to pop by for a Sunday lunch. We were greeted by a pleasant lady who showed us to our table and promptly brought our drinks. However it was down hill from there. The restaurant was very cold. The heating was on briefly but it soon went off and was bitterly cold. Out starters arrived and they were just acceptable. Very over priced for what was served. 4 small mushrooms on a cold plate with no bread or extras seemed poor for the price. I had ordered the belly pork roast dinner and it arrived without a crispy top. The top of it was raw fat, it didn't look like it had been cooked. I explained to the the waitress that I couldnt eat it like that and could she take the meat of the plate and I would just have the veg. When she returned without my plate and told me that was how they served their pork. She did ask what I would like instead and I again explained just the veg. She mentioned many more times that they serve their pork like that and didn't understand my problem. It was clear that the chef had given her a hard time when returning the plate to the kitchen. I felt throughly insulted, I had been polite and clear about what I would like. After some discussions we were told to leave by a lady who could have been the manager and we were told it was because we had made her staff cry. We were handled very badly. This is a pub that seems to forget that bad reviews go a lot further than good ones.

Me and my partner eat here frequently on Sundays as we live close by and as of late,it has been very hit and miss on our previous three visits. Depending on the time of the day we visit depends on the food you receive. My partner will eat anything so never complains but the last couple of times we have visited mine has been hit and miss. I always tend to stick to the roast as normally very tasty. But one Sunday I ask for turkey and beef and it arrived and there was a big pile of meat (ordered large) I questioned it before eating as there was no turkey only to be told they had given me lamb! I do not eat lamb so glad I questioned this, the waitresses are friendly and helpful and she did change this for me but halving the meat and the beef was slightly pink (not a fan) but I was hungry and just ate it. No apology though, the next week the potatoes were hard in the middle. This week when the food arrived, received a small (after ordering a large)she did bring the extra Yorkshire out with potatoes, but it was Luke warm and again potatoes were hard in the middle and the service was slow, quick to be served drinks but waited ages for our food and when it doesn't come out hot, it is disappointing. It is a shame but may need to think of a new restaurant for roasts.

Really Enjoyed our Sunday Lunch at the Stags Head. Great menu with a wide selection to suit most peoples taste, as well as a 4 of 5 roasts, all reasonably priced. The pub is surprisingly large inside with a separate dining area away from the main bar. Very pleasant. The food we had was nicely presented and hot. The staff were very attentive and friendly too. Seemed to be very popular so if you are visiting at the weekend it would be advisable to book a table. Based on our experience we would definitely recommend.

We had the wake for my Mum's funeral here because we have been many times and mum always enjoyed it so we thought what a fitting place to celebrate her life. We had the room at the back which was perfect. It has its own bar, comfy sofas and the doors which led onto the fully enclosed garden for the little ones to play. The food provided was lovely and gorgeous cake too. The staff were very attentive and helpful when we ran out of sandwiches and more had to be provided at short notice!

We booked a table for 4 on a Friday. A main menu and a specials menu provided plenty of choice, with traditional and some more exciting choices for starters and mains. Desserts again provided plenty of choice, with a cheese and biscuit option with a pot of honey. Service was prompt and pleasant. The food was well cooked and well presented. The typical country pub atmosphere was pleasant. Large car park.

It has now become a tradition to go the stags head on a Saturday night for their county famous homemade steak pie. Whatever request you make to the staff they will happily help you. The service is quick and the attention to detail is immaculate. The staff are always friendly, polite and smiley which makes you feel very welcome. I have also had many friends accompany me for dinner here including a large group of 15, the service was still up to a high standard and all my friends agreed the food was delicious and that it was a place we must all go back too. A huge plus is the menu has lots of options so there is always something to suit everyone. The Stags Head is a place for everyone - children, families, couples and work colleagues. Book a table and see for yourself!!

First time we've visited this restaurant, even though we've practically lived on it's doorstep for 4 years, and we were very happy we did.We decided to eat out last minute, Tuesday evening, and they were able to accommodate us without a booking. However, soon after we arrived the restaurant was full which we took as a good sign. It was! Food was excellent, lots to chose from with plenty of variety and what we both selected was delicious. I highly recommend the Steak Pie which was crammed full of delicious chunks of steak and very tasty. Hubby said the game pie he said was delicious too. Staff were very friendly and helpful & we will go back again.

On the website this place says it is dog friendly in the garden bar. What it doesn't say is the garden bar is a bare room out the back with no one in it and a little unstaffed bar area. And a telly blasting out music. To be honest if I want to sit on my own in front of the telly I can do that at homeFood took an hour to turn up - salad and a fish and chips so nothing special. Apparently the salad was okay but the fish and chips were awful. Close to the worst I've ever had. Small soggy bit of fish and the chips were greasy on the outside and hollow in the middle.Couldn't get out of there fast enough.

We were allocated a slightly separated area of the restaurant which was ideal for our occasion, giving us a good space, and atmosphere. The food from one of the set menus was really good and very ample. The staff at all levels were excellent, really helping us to plan the event, setting up the area in advance, and the very attentive and considerate service during the meal. To celebrate Mother's Day early we booked in at the Stag's Head early on the Saturday night beforehand. The restaurant was most unwelcoming decor-wise - dark 1970s wood everywhere, but worse was the temperature in the room - really cold. My daughter- in -law is now a vegan and was assured when she made telephone enquiries before our visit that this would be no problem. However, none of the vegetarian options were vegan, though the chef did rustle up a bowl of rice with a few vegetables in it. My lasagne was cold with thick layers of pasta and sauce but very little evidence, or taste, of meat. It was served with a plate of chips only - no salad or garlic bread. We didn't want to spoil this special occasion by complaining at the time, but will warn others now of these problems. It is an expensive place to eat which made our experience even more disappointing. The staff were very helpful and welcoming but we waited 40 minutes for ice cream desserts.

Visited the Stag for an afternoon drink after shopping with my partner. Have heard about the Stag previously as being worth a visit. On entering it became apparent that we would not be struggling for a table as it was virtually empty (at peak Sunday lunch time). Ordered a Desperado only to be told that it was not stocked, then requested a Bud only to be told that this was also not stocked. I was left with a choice of 3 obscure lagers. It showed signs of having being recently decorated, however it also showed signs of being 'slapped' on. The carpet looked as if it would not be out of place on 'Antiques Roadshow'. This establish is tired and clearly in need of some TLC by someone who knows how to run a village pub. Will not be returning anytime soon.

have been here for lunch on numerous occasions and have only had one problem with cold plates on one occasion but we rectified this by always where ever we go to ask for a hot plate.the starter of prawns and the soup were delicious the same went for the mains of a roast dinner.the problem arose when our dessert arrived,i ordered a bakewell sponge pudding and when it came it looked really appetizing.i took a spoonful of the topping which was lovely but when i took some of the sponge it was stone cold even some of it frozen.we called the waitress over who took it away and minutes later i count believe it when she put down the dessert i sent back that had just been put in the microwave.when i said i couldn't believe she had just done that and told her to take it away there was no way i was eating that the look of disbelief was a classic.we asked for our bill and left.im sure everyone will agree that when we go to these places to eat there is no way the food can be cooked fresh so of course food is put in the microwave, but it is extremley sloppy when you send out food that is still frozen or not heated properly

Was looking forward to a good meal. Pricier than some pub meals so had high expectations. Pork fillet and chorizo skewers in Thai sweet chilli sauce were a bit tasteless - better when I asked for additional sauce. Family had lasagne which was tasty but came with a teaspoon of coleslaw and mountain of chips despite asking for one a few. Avoid the ice cream - cheap synthetic. Meal was not bad but I have had better meals in pubs for half the price.

My partner and I visited the stags head for the second time last night. The food, wine and service was faultless. The menu has some great choices. We both had the deep fried brie to start, I had the duck breast served pink with roasted vegetables and boulangere potatoes, my partner had the kangaroo Diane off the specials board with sweet potatoes and roasted vegetables. It was so nice to see something different on the menu and I had a taste of the kangaroo, it was really tender. My partner is allergic to mushrooms so he asked to swap the Diane sauce for sweet thai chilli and nothing was too much trouble. All the food was hot, extremely tasty and arrived in good time. The service was excellent and considering January seems to be a quieter period the bar and restaurant had a great atmosphere. Like I said a faultless evening. Can't wait to go back.
