Four of us visited the very popular Spread Eagle in Mellor for lunch on Wednesday, having booked a table for 12.30 in advance.

We had a great meal last Saturday. Portions are extremely generous. The waiters were very friendly, and overall it was an excellent meal

Food by Breda Murphy

18/02/2020: Really good food nicely presented and very tasty. Service good although waited quite a long time for drinks order. We like plenty of time between courses so this was perfect for us.
31/01/2020: We’ve lived within 15 miles for years & worked across the road for 10! This resto serves up goog old fashioned traditional British grub. I guess aimed at RV oldies judging by the car park being full of Chelsea tractors. The resto was packed! Many oldies, even older than us!!! £220 for four. The staff were great, food quality just like our home cooking! Except salt strewn fish, why do so many restos make that decision go you? Wasn’t edgy enough for me! Shame no more “specials” to experiment with! Nothing at all wrong with the place, a winning formula enjoyed by their regs!

Inn at Whitewell

15/02/2020: Took my wife here for an A La Carte meal. A very limited menu which wasn't impressive at all, and neither was the food, which appears to be prepared by a Chef who cooks for himself rather than ordinary mortals. Rather pricey and certainly not value for money. The few plusses are a nicely set out dining room and quality serving staff.. Doubt that I'll riush back - the Gibbon Bridge knocks spots off it.
22/12/2019: We'd heard good things about the Forest of Bowland restaurants and the Inn at Whitewell in particular. The dining room was sparsely populated the evening we had dinner, so the atmosphere was on the quiet side. The dining experience was mixed, with excellent wines, OK-ish starter and pudding, but an underwhelming lamb main course. We'll put this down to an off night and try again sometime soon.
