Meat is really good, for the veggies I was with, not so great

Got mixed grill £30 was completely burned to a char left over half of it red cow in Smethwick much better can’t believe they expect you to eat it tbh

Nice place for a good pint and food and to chill with mates, can easily spend hours here, drinks are reasonable price, service is great and food is like a bbq charcoal and very tasty. Mix grill is huge, overall great place.

Fantastic food, four of us split a mixed grill, butter chicken, chicken jalfreze, rice, and naans. We enjoyed everything, but the onion bagee was my personal favourite.

Went there after 4 years. Why do the meat they serve is black and crispy . It's still the same as years ago. Look at other places, their food is never black

Food is excellent and is cooked to order. It's a proper Indian sports pub . Nice atmosphere, used by locals as a pub and doubles as a restaurant. Food was tasty and good value.

I was brought in here by a friend .The food is off the charts excellent..I was genuinely surprised how good it was .Will definitely be back .

Absolutely disappointed after a very long time thought we would give it a try, but we were let down by the quality of the food and the shocking price of the large mixed grill, also had a kam h curry which was awful and sweet, won’t go back again

Food was decent not anything outstanding except the fish pakora and chilli chicken was great, rest of the grill was okay, nothing outstanding or worthy of further mention with so much competition in the same cuisine, I expected fierce competution on delivering a fantastic dish/product. A very eye of the tiger bare environment.

Went for a mixed grill, and the taste was ok. There were too many shish kebabs, and they were dry. Masalla chips were meh. Definitely better mixed grills than this place, I personally won't be returning.

Had fabulous Indian food at a very reasonable price and it was served in a great atmosphere. Will recommend it for a good night

Got the mix grill and was completely stale, like it was cooked ages ago and just warmed up. Prices were fine, service was alright but food was not good quality.

Stopped by on our way past the place on recommendation from a ex-local. Loved the food! Especially the grilled meat. Found the salt a bit too high for my taste. But that's something hopefully they will try and dial down. Fairly well priced. Value for money. I'd go so far as to call this a hidden gem, as long as you don't mind eating in a local.

Food has definitely deteriorated over the past few months. Boneless chicken, and I know it’s cooked over charcoal, was burnt, very dry and especially chewy. Chicken wings again were very dry and chewy despite their crispy skin. The girl serving the food needs to learn how to smile as her attitude was disgusting, she actually made me feel uncomfortable to be sitting there. Best thing about our meal was the Nan bread and fresh salad. Male bar staff pleasant as always serving an excellent range of drinks.

The behaviour of the tender wasn't appropriate ably while placing the order. There wasn't a single piece of salad with my whole order, he said your order was last at 21:50 on Sunday. And they are about to close.

First time going to the sportsman. Starts sizzler was great. The 2 out of 5 of the main dishes we weren't too pleased with. The service was excellent. There could have been some soft music in the background, as it was lunchtime, it was quiet. The staff were very friendly. I would go next time again to hv the sizzler meal. The lamb curry, dhal, and chicken saag with mushrooms, these 3 main dishes were mouth watering. Thankyou.

Came after the baggies game on Sunday, service was very very fast for how busy it was. Started with a mixed grill which was ok, only 3 different meals and quite pricey compared to other places. Then had the clay pot chicken with rice and naan. It was exceptional, will definitely be returning for another curry. Lots of tv screens and very fast service at the bar.

Visited this place today 23/4/23. Don’t live in the area but our 2 sons were at the WBA v Sunderland game, so while we were waiting for them we thought we would go in this place and have a drink whilst watching the game on TV. All was good had a couple of drinks then they realise we were there as SAFC supporters. A 60 odd year old woman sat behind us was trying to goad us all game but we never reacted. Sat with 3 other men all WBA supporters who were lovely. As soon as the game finished we were asked to leave, we were finishing our drinks when the said family sat behind us starting shouting about us indirectly, a man came over to my husband and got in his face. We did leave as we were going to meet our sons..disgusting behaviour by your regulars over a football match, we weren’t in there to cause trouble, just to watch a game.. Thanks for the 3 points though…

Found this pub. .came up from Sussex for football match. Wonderful food and atmosphere. Beautiful girls serving.

Been coming on and off for years here. Always quick service, well prepared food, and it's recently-ish been renovated. Last time I came in I did notice the food was starting to get a bit pricey though.

Great restaurant for delicious Indian food. Really tasty good quality dishes at a reasonable price.

Outstanding food at pre-2008 prices. Few things compare to a Desi pub - great cuisine, friendly locals and a down-to-earthness (look it up) severely lacking in towns across the land. Having ventured down to the Black Country from Wrexham, we found our train delayed by an hour or four, so decided to hop off at the Hawthorns train station, walking to the Sportsman on the recommendation of Jay Rayner in the Guardian. I can say with some certainty our return leg will have a similar pit-stop (and the luggage will have copious room for leftovers!). Well done all involved and what a refreshing lunch it was for two wee Welsh women.

Best Indian grill by far,curry's are absolutely spot on..mixed grills are very consistent with the flavours and quality,well all the food is..eat here all the time,would highly recommend eating here....

One of the best places to eat in Britain, if you want to taste authentic Indian/Delhi tandoori food. none of that, 'sort' of or almost 'indian' food, the real authentic coal fired tandoor. been eating here for 17 years, the way they have incorporated pub and tandoor, is amazing, wonder why don't we have more places in country like this.. anyways, proper tikha(spicy) tandoori grilled food at amazing price, every time i am driving up and down the country, i make sure to get some packed for family.

Food was OK. Not enough space and found myself feeling children mid air while others hogged the tables without food.

A lot of nostalgia and memories involved when discussing this Desi-Pub. I've had many great nights in here over the last 20 years, to the soundtrack of the Punjabi songs on the jukebox! Also been in on West Bromwich Albion match days when it's absolutely packed. Quite busy when big matches are on tv too. Food-wise, it's one of the original Desi-Pubs where people have been going for a Mixi. It may not always be to the taste of newer people in the mixed grill scene, but a lot of us older guys love it. Visited recently for the first time in years and was surprised that they've finally introduced table service. There had previously been occasions where I've ordered over £200 worth of food in a big group of lads, and we'd been made by the chef to collect it all ourselves! It's still the same main chef there though. Good selection of drinks. Noticed the prices have gone up a fair bit, but that's just life at the moment with almost everywhere. Bar area is great for chilling out with a beer, playing pool etc. Separate restaurant area is very comfy with big booths for large groups. Big outside space too for smokers or drinking in the summer.

went this evening for my dads birthday and i have to say what a let down... the waitress pretty much just chucked the food on the table with no regard, i ended up fetching the rest of the order myself from the counter as she either forgot or just did'nt care and to be honest i think it was the latter one.....this used to be somewhere i would totally recommend to somewhere i would totally avoid....... such a shame aswell it was such a good place to eat

Amazing food !!! and quick warm service. We live nowhere close but if we are travelling anywhere close we always make it a point to stop here. Avoid the toilets though !
