Every few months we take a day trip to Ballymena and we used to have lunch at this bar.On Friday we arrived and were quite taken aback by the extremely limited menu on offer such a change from our last visit. The seating area was stained and dirty our soup arrived lukewarm no cutlery or serviettes and the whole experience was dreadful. We will definitely not be returning and I must say I find it hard to believe this bar is now owned by the granny Annie chain.

One of our treats on a shopping trip to Ballymena is calling in here where I order the best 'club sandwich' in the business! However, on popping in today, the menu has changed. It's a set price of lunch for £5.95, with a choice of several chicken, and beef dishes. My beloved club sandwich is no more. I ended up just ordering a starter of soup of the day, vegetable, and was mightily disappointed! The portion control is over zealous, and served in a very shallow dish. At £1.95, it would have been OK for value, but they actually charged £3.95 for it. You get more out of the small can of Heinz. Oh, and they serve a very small slice of bread & butter with it, but fail to serve a knife. This place use to be so good, so recently. However, we won't be back now, unless they start serving proper grown up portions of soup, and return their wonderful club sandwich!

Called here first time for Sunday dinner, first impressions , needs refurbished or at the very least ,needs a thorough cleaning., The whole place is drab and very run down. We were really hungry so decided to order anyway, the food was similar to a ready meal you would buy in any supermarket plus a little extra. Don't think we will be returning any time soon.

Since Wetherspoons sold this site in 2016, it's gone through a couple of different 'managements'. I need to stress that these have been very poor, BUT this review is for the current one at time of writing (early 2019). We have now visited the Spinning Mill 3 times in the last 3 months, each time the service has been exemplary! The staff have been genuinely cheerful, great smiles, and make you feel special as opposed to being an interruption to their day. The menu is simple pub fayre, but what more do you want in a pub! The quality of the club sandwich I had was the best I've ever eaten. My partner had the chicken wrap which was very tasty. They also offer a great wee £5 special menu too - photo attached. The other meals we saw being served all looked really good too. The new owners need to contact TripAdvisor and remove the old non relevant reviews from this location as the new incarnation of this pub deserves to be recognised! As long as they keep up the service and food, we're now back to being regulars...

As a big fan of live music, I went there on Saturday night to hear the young chap on the guitar. While he was excellent, the pubs sound system was not, blasting in some areas, hard to hear in others. When I went to get a pint on the ground floor, NINE of the taps had glasses covering them, indicating that particular beer had ran out. At 20.30 on a Saturday night? Upstairs I went to get another pint and after queuing for nearly 5 minutes, I was told they don't serve pints upstairs! Should have been obvious to me as again the number of taps covered with glasses far outnumbered those without. Downstairs into another 10 minute queuing wait, while the three staff had discussions in between serving the odd customer. Back upstairs, music finished, went to use the loo. Closed. Back downstairs male urinals were overflowing. At that point, I left, went to another bar. Unfortunately this is not a one off and there comes a time when you really don't want to go back. This saddens me as the Mill used to be a great place to go and I like to support venues that offer live music.

A friend suggested we go here for a bite to eat and a cocktail or two. I'd never been and I was looking forward to it. Well, I never expected the place to look so dark, dingy, dirty and drab! Actually never mind looking dirty...it WAS dirty! I didn't know how I would ever feel like eating in the place. We sat at a table for 4 at the window behind the door, and the chair beside me was FILTHY with stains and food smeared across it. I didn't even want to sit down on my dirty chair but I did!!! The table had been wiped...with a grubby cloth because you could see where the cloth had been and dried! The windows were boggin and just out of courtesy to my friend I grinned and bore it. My friend went to the bar to order our food which I thought was ridiculous! The price of the food and drink should reflect the service given and I thought it terrible that nobody came to take your order at the table as I've spent much less with waiting staff service. Our food arrived on less than sparkling plates...do you have a dishwasher?? A proper machine I mean, rather than a person??? I ordered the chilli chicken ciabatta which looked lovely and tasted ok...apart from the SOGGY bread drowned in chilli sauce...inedible! The fries were lovely...but it's hard to fault chips!! Between us we spent £40 which was awful! I couldn't wait to get out, get home and change my clothes, which were quickly put into the washing machine. Dear lord, if you are due to get renovations done would you ever hurry up! I've never felt the need to say this about anywhere I've eaten in but honestly, I've never felt so disgusted in all my life with the spinning mill!!! I'll never be back to the grubby gaff on Broughshane st, Ballymena! I've given it a 1 rating purely because there isn't a zero option and it wouldn't submit without a rating!!

Boyfriends starter came down no cutlery and after waiters walking padt us after starter finished finally cleared table and the wait for the main was a ridiculous wait to the point i said to waiter if it wasnt out in 5 minutes to cancel, finally came wrong sauces and very fatty meat. After table cleared again yet another long pause before my desert came out so by this time i was fed up of waiting i went to bar to pay and asked to cancel desert. Barman was apoligetic but manager didnt seem to care about complaints. Wont be back yes i know christmas run up is busy but should be better staffed and more organised

Specifically went to see the band on Saturday night. They were shoved in a corner, having to move out of the way while people went to the toilet. Whoever thought that was a good place to have a live band doesn't know what they're doing. It's ok to stick a guy with a laptop in there, but not a 5 piece band. Just made the place seem so amateurish. On top of that it took over 15 minutes to get a drink while there were just two or three people serving, out of four staff "working" upstairs. When I did eventually get to the bar FIVE of the beers I asked for were finished. Roundstone, Maggies Leap, Hoegarden and two others. At NINE THIRTY PM! Suffice to say I won't be in a hurry back.

We were regular visitors when this place was a 'Wetherspoons' so I do declare maybe a conflict of interest, as it use to be great. Today at 1pm (Saturday, 20th May), my fiancée and I popped in for lunch. (This was our 2nd visit as the last one was a few months ago, and the experience was bad, but we thought it was just the transition period between them taking over and everyone deserves a 2nd chance). We just wanted a light lunch, and for a start, the place was just grubby, carpets needed cleaning, as did tables - this was just one hour into opening. The menus we were presented with could also have benefited from being wiped with a damp cloth. Also, the 'specials' were typed out on a crumpled sheet of A4 paper. At the very least, put it in a poly pocket so it doesn't get so dirty!I fancied an alcohol free Kopparberg cider (my favourite tipple at Wetherspoons). They don't do them which is fair enough, but on inquiring further, their choice of 'alcohol free' anything is very poor unless you’re a fan of the ubiquitous Coca-Cola Co.. Not everyone in NI wants to get hammered just because they are eating a meal. On their menu, they name 2 x soups. We ordered a ‘tomato & basil’, only to be told immediately that they didn't have it. So, we settled on the other soup, ‘potato & leek’. After 5 minutes, still waiting for our drinks order, she came back and told us they didn't have the ‘potato & leek’ either. My goodness, they only advertise 2 soups and to be out of both less than an hour from opening is fairly pathetic. In addition, we were the only people seated on the whole of the 1st floor. When it was a Wetherspoons, getting a table on a Saturday lunchtime was often a challenge, that should have been a warning to us. We then simply walked out as to be honest, it's our money, and we really didn't want to spend it here! We've both been in retail in excess of 30 years, and couldn't remember the last time the service was so poor that we simply walked out.Anyway, it may improve, it may not, but we won't be back to find out...

We hadn't been in since they were bought over from Wetherspoons so we thought we would give it shot.It closed for a week or 2 during the takeover but i couldn't see were they had made any improvements to the decor, furnishings etc.If anything it was worse than before. The original cobwebs and dust over the upstairs bar were still there. Obviously left as they were for sentimental reasons. We ordered our food without drama. My wife had the southern style chicken goujons and salad with bbq dip which was ok if a little bland.I had 'gourmet' sausages peas mash and gravy. The sausages were of the type you get in the local chippy or burger van.the mash was average and i bit lumpy, and the gravy had to be Bisto as it had the little lumps you get in Bisto when you don't stir it well enough. you all know whati mean lol.Add to that the blarring music at 12.30 in the afternoon meaning you couldn't hear yourself.Sorry but for the money it was very average and we wont be going back again until it at least has the face lift it so badly needs.

I am writing this review under the name of Spinning Mill, which I thought I was eating in Granny Annies, and the staff were unable to tell me the difference. Having ate in Granny Annies in Belfast several times we were looking forward to a nice meal. Not so, there was no meeter or greeter to show/explain how it worked. We got a table by ourselves waited then a waitress came with a menu and took our drinks order. My husband ordered the steak medium, it did not disappoint, however the pepper sauce did, very bland, I ordered the xmas dinner, I have not had as bad a meal in a long time, the veg were all frozen you would need a steak knife to cut the sprouts, hard carrots and cold peas. Mash potato was luke warm as was the slice of turkey/ham only thing that was warm was the roast potatoes and the 2 sausages, no cranberry sauce as stated, but nobody came to ask if everything was ok. While we were having our meal the staff wheeled a big blue bin through the restaurant full of bottles and back again, so unprofessional. When paying the bill I ask if we had ate in Granny Annies or Weatherspoons the manager said Granny Annies, I said it was nothing like Belfast, to which she replied it was the same supplier, I then said it must be the cook, no further response, enough said, definitely wouldn't go back unless the staff were properly trained, but seeing Granny Annies has not the manner s to respond to feed back says it all

Stopped today for lunch, switched on friendly bar staff took our order, I had the gourmet beef burger, with a superb pint of Ale, the wife had the ham, egg and chips. The food arrived very promptly, and could not be faulted, eggs perfectly soft fried, with 2 generous slices of good ham.My burger and trimmings were excellent (bar the bog-standard bap/bun)A few more of the excellent chips would have been welcome, but when on occassion we order an extra portion to split, it is then too much.Entire cost with a 2nd pint of Ale and a mug of tea.Less than £11.00.Or less than, and better qualitythan the single disappointing burger meal( & no drinks incl) in Ballycastle on Thursday past.Marcus

Wetherspoons normally excels in my estimation but my latest visit was a letdown. I doubt if the sausages my partner was served with the lukewarm mash were their 'award winning' variety and the white fish did not have the flavour or texture I would normally associate with cod. Mushy peas were sparse and in a thin sauce. Rest of the food and drinks were fine but we were given a dirty wine glass and the replacement, although clean, hadn't been dried. Barman did not appear too pleased to be asked to dry it. We arrived around 5.30 Friday evening. The area we sat in was quiet and almost empty but the tables hadn't been wiped and some seats were dirty. On this occasion the ambiance was not welcoming and we did wonder if anyone was in charge. Pity.

We won a voucher for meal for two first time trying the food in The Spinning Mill and not disappointed first class service from the staff. 14oz Aberdeen Angus Rump Steak with chips peas and mushroom cooked the way we asked for it. The best piece of steak we both have had in a long time. Very reasonable priced menu and the food took no time at all to come to table. Well done for the great service and checking to see if all was good with the meal a service you do not get very often these days in restaurants. We will be back.

Wetherspoons have a winning formula; of that there is no doubt. Despite the sameness of the menu, drinks, prices etc. each of their pubs has a uniqueness that is never boring. With the quality, extensive range and value of both the food and drinks it is always a five star experience. Two steak meals and a bottle of wine £15.99! Normally you would expect low quality at that price. Not so. Our fare also included spicy king prawns, buffalo wings. chicken strips, cod and chips as well as sampling various beverages. Our party of four were all more than satisfied with the meal, ambiance and the most excellent service provided by polite, welcoming and attentive staff. In its class this venue is outstanding and given the overall dining experience I have rated it one of the best and one of the most enjoyable meals I have ever ahd.

In Ballymena shopping and thought we would come here for breakfast. We both had Eggs Benedict on soda bread and we both agreed it was very good, the poached eggs were a little runny just as they should be. We were served quickly and the meals were brought to us on lovely warm plates. The staff were polite and even asked us if everything was alright once we had our breakfast. Along with 2 large Latte we still had changed from a £10 note. Will certainly call in again and recommend the breakfast here. Maybe next time we'll try the upstairs seating area.

It's a wetherspoons and that's all too clear. Food was adequate, drinks were adequate, mass produced but very cheap. Food's always okay and I'm definitely a picker eater, but the pitchers (providing you get the right bar member to make them- some are clearly not trained) are yummy and fantastic value.Definitely worth a visit if you're looking a pub lunch, or even just a few drinks for a very small price. Will return.

I love wetherspoons, I've been to so many in the UK & the spinning mill in ballymena certainly doesn't disappoint.I love the selection, curries, roast dinners, hot dogs (even chile dogs!).The prices are fantastic, really great value, and the atmosphere is always where welcoming. The portion sizes could sometimes be an issue. Especially extra portions of mash potatoes & the curry dishes. Also the Pepsi has been a bit off due to the machine on a couple of occasions. However I've always been granted a new drink if I have felt the need to complain. That being said, the staff are great, and often check up to see if everything's ok for you.Love it, and always try to head here when I'm in the ballymena direction.

Called in with the wife for a meal through the week . Place was quiet with just a few having drinks only , ordered small mixed grill , the wife having chicken strips . Food arrived quickly was hot and not only looked great but tasted brilliant .. Well cooked and a nice clean appearance .. Not a pile on the plate but at just over £8 with a pint of lager for the grill sure you couldn't fault it . Chicken was well presented and the wife really enjoyed it. Love the fact that all the condiments are now on your table as opposed to the table littered with sauce salt pepper etc in small pkts ,half of what is left and never opened .. Lad behind the bar was pleasant , helpful and efficient .. To conclude . Will def return enjoyed my meal in the Spinning Mill . Certainly be sooner than later ... 10 out of 10

Had lunch in the spinning mill last weekend and was not greatly impressed! I had a toasted Panini which was well done to say the least - nearly broke my teeth on it! My friend had a pasta dish which did not look very appealing although she said it tasted ok.The boys had burgers which were ok - the one thing we all agreed on the chips were great!

Initially went to Spinning Mill in Broughshane Street, Ballymena, to try out some of the superb real ales they offer. We were not disappointed, there was a good selection of beers, lagers, and of course all the usual ones as well. Where else can you get real ale for as little as £1.75 a pint ?Whilst there we spotted the menu and decided to come back and have a meal on another evening. I had Sausage and Mash with an onion gravy and peas, my wife had the guinness ale steak pie with vegetables. It was a good quality meal and represented excellent value for money. We note that they have numerous meal deals and mid week specials, which we will be back to sample.

We arrived here for a drink last saturday 4th January. The place was absolutely freezing and it was as if there was air con on. I asked one of the waitresses if the heating was on and she said it wasn't working because they had no oil. we stuck it out for awhile and decided to have some fish and chips. I went to order these and was told there was no fish. I have to say I am really surprised that a big company like Witherspoons would allow this to happen on the busiest day of the week in January. It's certainly one way to get rid of customers. I will think twice about visiting again.

Wherever we are, on holiday or at home in Londonderry, we love visiting Wetherspoons because the food is not only good but also the best value around. Last Sunday we decided to take a wee run to Ballymena to visit the Spinning Mill (our first) and had a grand roast beef dinner. The roasties were to die for, and we got great service. So.... this Sunday we were thinking of visiting a different Wetherspoon outlet but went back to Ballymena. Great roasties again, great roast beef dinner, great service. Oh, those roasties! Highly recommend the staff there, especially Ricky and Tony. I think I know the menu backwards, and it never disappoints.

The Spinning Mill can be found on the edge of Ballymena, on Broughshane St., and it part of the Weatherspoon's chain. Like the rest of the pubs, it opens at 8am, seven days a week, and thank God for that, as when I arrived in Ballymena early today, it was like a ghost town, but I knew I could get a fry-up here. The menu changed last Wednesday, so I wasn't sure if the "Ulster Fry" was still available for 3 Pounds and 9 pence. So, I pick table 9, and head up to the bar, where Tony is waiting to take my order, well I thought he was. "Excuse me, but is the Ulster Fry still on the menu", I enquire? "Ulster Fry, let me ask the chef", the very helpful young barman says. "Yes it is, would you like anything with that". "Just a coffee". "That'll be 2.49 for the fry, and 75p for the coffee". Jaysus, the fry is now 20 pence cheaper!! In no time, young Tony lands down with the grub, and it's the usual 'Spoons brekkie. "Where do I get the free coffee refills" I ask. "Free refills". It's as though he has never heard of this before. "Yes, free refills". When I seen the confused look on his face, I decided to show him the menu, where I had learned of this new invention!!! "Let me ask the chef", and off he goes, back into the kitchen again. The poor old chef's hearth must be broken!! Maybe Tony was thrown in at the deep end, or maybe it was his first day, but he was very helpful and polite, and no doubt, given time, will become a top notch barman. Anyhow, while getting a "free refill", I get chatting to one of the customers who informs me that the beautiful bar interior was done by Drew Kelly, who also did Benedict's Bar in Belfast. He informed me that it was done about ten years ago, and probably needs redoing soon. Personally I don't think so, as I feel that there's a certain charm about the place, and it's very welcoming, especially with the real fire going, just inside the door. I took my time in the Mill, and went for a wander upstairs. But before I left, I asked the boss [well I think he was] about the origin of the pillars at the doorway. [I decided to give Tony a break]. He hadn't a clue. He told me that he was in the bar over two years, and that no one ever asked about them. Strange people in Ballymena. Anyhow after 3 coffee's, I said my goodbyes, and left. I enjoyed my visit, and hope to return soon, and maybe even see Tony running the place!!! Next stop Newtownards and "The Spirit Merchant"
