The Spice Connoisseur in Rhondda Cynon Taf

11 of us including a 3 yr old had a lovely evening in this restaurant aka Spice Ambassador in Taffs Well. The owner and his staff were really helpful and attentive start to finish, and nothing was ever too much trouble. Food? Well, every choice served to us all was delicious, unique in many cases. Personally, my lamb dish was probably the best lamb presentation I've tasted in an Indian restaurant. Helpings were nicely generous but not too daunting or wasteful, arriving all hot and at the same time, notable considering we were a large group in a busy restaurant. Many thanks to staff for a lovely time- we'll definitely be back.

It was our first time at the restaurant. We have passed it many times and decided to give it a go. The welcome was really pleasant, with the waiters smiling and laughing with customers. We were seated in the conservatory area, which was cooler than the many area, but fine nevertheless. We all shared starters to begin. The "starter" option and prawn puree. Both delicious, but on the small side. For many mains again we shared - House Special Biryani and some more starters for the vegetarian friend. Chips and naans as extras too. All were delicious and large portions. I could see on another table of 3 guys, the one with a biryani was really struggling to eat it all. He managed about 50% and said he would take it away and have it the next day! Kingfisher beer on tap was great too. All in all a really enjoyable night out with good food. We will return!

Second time I have been here, first I would like to point out that the Wife and I are both Vegan, the staff went out of their way to accommodate us, have been eating curries for years both vegan and non vegan and can honestly say this is the best, thoroughly enjoyed and we're made to feel very welcome, cannot recommend enough

As always everything was spot on!! The food was so tasty, especially the scotch egg (which I can’t recommend enough). The portion size were big, with really fresh meats. We all left feeling stuffed. The staff were really friendly and jovial, nothing was too much of a hassle. Overall we had a brilliant evening and will be returning soon.

Had a brilliant takeaway. Lamb tikka with salad Captain Pathila Pilau rices Peshwari naan Saag Really enjoyed our food and as always brilliant standard. Lovely to have Sam cooking as he is a skilled chef but do miss sitting down i the restaurant. Did enjoy a nice glass of wine while I was waiting! Always impressed with the food and value for money as I have been to several Indian takeaways and they always skimp on the meat! Very happy.

Had a take away, Jalfrezi and chicken biryani which was absolutely delicious, chicken was very succulent and sauces delicious, portion size very large and service was excellent. Highly recommend inside presently closed for some refurbishment.

Treated ourselves to a takeaway tonight. Brilliant tasty food and great value. Staff were lovely too and very Covid safe at the collection point. Would definitely recommend

Met by the owner Sammy what a gentleman courteous and very welcoming had starters with various dips then an absolutely superb chicken tikka and lamb tikka rice and nan bread empty dishes all around , a few lovely beers (Optional ) very comfortable and a good ambience .

I've been going to the Spice Connoisseur for quite a while now and have always enjoyed the atmosphere and the food. The Staff are really friendly and helpful. I travel to the Spice Connoisseur from a fair distance away but it's always worth it. The Restaurant have aldo made a great effort with some of their Decor. For example they have a huge picture of the Taj Mahal at the back of the Restaurant. I recently had the Biryani and it's to be recommended as it's not greasy at all.

Went there last Saturday and the restaurant was full house! We are very lucky that we have booked! But nevertheless the food was excellent, packed with flavours and it was piping hot when our food arrived which is a good sign! (10/10 for the food!!) The service from the staff was excellent and they were all very friendly and attentive! I would recommend that you give this restaurant a try if you love Indian food!

The shami & sheek starters were very salty. Though we weren't charged for the starters. in fairness. The mains of tikka masala & korma were fine, the chips were a little undercooked. Naan was delicious. So 4 poppadums, 2 starters, 2 mains, 3 sides with 2 cokes came to around £45. Good value i think. Plenty of off road parking. Sometimes little cold in there during bad weather despite the gas fire. Very pleasant staff. Outside the sign now says Spice Ambassador?

Recently visited February 2020’ and didn’t disappoint my meal as always was outstanding , the meat falls off the fork with the tenderness , iv been coming a few years and I have to say it is my favourite place to dine , I adore the food the manager and his lovely children are the most kindest and loveliest people iv come across , I can not praise this place enough .. will see you soon guys ....

We are visiting for the 6 nations and the owner of the cottage told us there was a great curry house but it did not look like much from the out side, he was right a slight round down looking building from the out side, slightly tired typical uk indian on the inside but the staff where all attentive and pleasent, my wifes dhansak was amazing with 4 interesting tastes my meal was a good balti and my only complant if that the popadoms where slightly soft, if you are in the area its worth a visit

Great service, great food. Really enjoyed. Staff can’t do enough to help. Highly recommend. Choice of food is good, specials are changed regularly. Good wine menu, kingfisher on tap and cobra in large bottles :-)

Staying locally for a weekend. Really great menu and food with good service - would be regulars if we lived locally ! (The Tandoori Scotch Egg was new on me - recommend it!)

Fantastic food, fantastic hospitality. A wonderful evening. Cannot fault them. I'm never sure about the spiciness of various dishes so I asked. The suggested meal surpassed my expectations.

First visit to Spice Conniseur, venue is classic curry house style and not too big. The food was excellent, I had the Lamb Tawah which had delicious smoke/spice flavour (smoke flavour from the hot frying of the spices the waiter kindly told me). Pilau rice was perfect. The other dish was chicken tikka masala which was also very good. Plenty of meat in both dishes. Nice atmosphere not too busy for a Friday evening. Very good service and decent value for money. We had a lovely time.

Bueno, no solemos ir a restaurantes indios debido a una mala experiencia hace algunos años, pero nos recomendaron este, así que pensamos que iríamos. Nos recibieron unos camareros muy bien vestidos y nos llevaron a nuestra mesa, le explicamos que estaba fuera de nuestra zona de confort y decidimos tener el menú para 2 después de hablar con el camarero que nos aconsejó qué hacer. La comida era excelente fresca y sabrosa pero no tan picante como habíamos pedido. Este fue un gran lugar para comer y lo recomendamos encarecidamente. Gracias a todo el personal por la experiencia más agradable.

A last decision and very happy we made it.

Great menu and service, very reasonable prices. A wide range of dishes and you can tell care is taken with each and every one to make for an authentic and delicious meal. Very welcoming and impeccable service, you really do feel taken care of each time you visit and it’s little touches like hot towels and mints after your meal that really just put the cherry on top. Would highly recommend to anyone that likes authentic food, we travel a fair distance just to come here and it’s worth every mile and blows any nearby restaurants out of the water on every level.

Lovely atmosphere with waiting staff that cannot do enough for you. The food was tremendous. The menu has some very interesting food options which means that we will definitely be back for more!

I have just been for a meal with my girlfriend and her parents, the food was outstanding and the service was impeccable, hands down the best Indian restaurant I have ever been to. I recommend the chilli chips

My family and I tried many many curry houses around Cardiff and the surrounding areas until we finally tried the Spice Connoisseur and never went back! The food is absolutely spot on every time we visit and the staff are exceptional too! I have taken many friends who are loyal to their local curry houses and are sceptical they will find anywhere better who were blown away by the food served! Delicious and wide variety of veggie options also! If you're after a curry, go here!

Have visited this place a few times now with friends and I have to say the food has been consistently good on all occasions.

No vayas muy a menudo, pero ahora he estado 3 veces y cada vez que la comida ha sido excelente. Supongo que necesitan algo mejor que un fuego de gas para calentar el lugar. Los precios promedio, nos costaron 46 para 2 entrantes, 2 platos principales, 2 lados y 2 cafés.

Hemos tenido comida para llevar y cena en el restaurante y la comida fue excelente! Muy generosas porciones de naan y arroz y muy sabrosa comida. Allá arriba con las mejores casas de curry que hemos estado. Tan acogedor y amable sin ser demasiado. No puedo esperar a volver otra vez.

So easily missed whether you’re heading into or out of Taffs Well, this Indian Restaurant has blown me away with not only the food quality but the choice, which is so much more varied than other restaurants close by or even far away. Some lovely but different exotic indian dishes...I’m gonna work through as many as I can.

I have been to quite a few Indian Restaurants throught the UK for a number of years and this is without doubt one of the best on all levels. Well recommended.

This is by far my favourite curry house. I have tried others in the area but I always come back to this one. The chicken Pathia is delicious. The service is always excellent! And the best part is the price.

My partner took me here he'd been before a few years back i hadn't, i was so glad he did!! The food was all well presented and piping hot and the service was very fast. I would give this place a nom rating of 3 out of 5. I will be going back.

Great menu and service my only gripe is that we live too far away for them to deliver, really pleasant experience dining here and recommended.

Delicious meals, unhurried service, friendly staff. Starters, 2 mains with sides, naan bread & 2 large cokes came to some £43. Comfortable surroundings, clean dining area & clean toilets. Will visit again for sure.

Repasé este restaurante hace más de un año después de visitarlo como parte de un club de curry mensual de 11 equipos. Mi esposa y yo ahora hemos estado visitando al menos dos veces al mes, lo bueno es que hemos estado ordenando platos diferentes en cada visita y, a diferencia de otros indios, todas las comidas tienen un sabor diferente, aquí se puede probar claramente que se cocinan por separado y son únicos. Estará ahí por al menos una hora y media, la comida está recién preparada y el control de calidad es perfecto. las comidas son grandes y muy sabrosas. ellos también hacen un 9. 99 comida el domingo, gran valor y porciones masivas. Creo que el propietario Sam no anuncia, puedo ver por qué. una vez visitado, volverás. Después de visitar diferentes restaurantes indios al mes en los últimos 15 años con nuestro club de curry, vuelvo con mi esposa y amigos al experto en especias y uso este como mi llamado local, mi número uno. El personal es estupendo, buena comida y mucha variedad.

I hate this place! I mean I'm quite easy to impress but this place really didn't! Been to so many Indian restaurants but haven't ever gotten such rubbish service! Not what I wanted! The waiters were friendly but it really didn't make up for everything!

We visited over the late May Bank Holiday and our host recommended that we visit the Spice Connoisseur. We were made very welcome by Sam and his team. We shared a starter platter which was tasty and plentiful, then went onto fight over a chicken and a lamb dish, both spiced well served hot. Loved the food and the service, thanks Sam

Booked in here for a 60th birthday meal and can confirm the food is of the highest standard. The exterior of the premises is quite shabby but once inside it lifts itself. Sam & the team looked after us and nothing was too much trouble. Orders were taken and all came out together. I went for a lamb Madras and quite often the lamb can be tough, but this was superb. Served with mushroom rice, overall it was the best. No complaints from others in the group and all said we will return.

My family and i visited this resteraunt for my mums birthday, we went ona sunday which meant wewe able to choose tgeyre sunday menu which was 3 courses for 10 pound and it was great value for money, the food was devine the service was 5 star and all in all was a perfect birthday meal would definitely recommend them to anyone looking for a good indian meal!

Not the most appealing curries we have eaten...all three curries looked the same colour,with a bland taste even tho different recipes Chicken, Lamb. Will give it another go when in area.

I organised the night at the Spice Connoisseur. We visited in November as a 12 man monthly curry club team. We visit a different curry establishment every month and have been doing so for 15 years. We were looked after and had a great night. Sam and his team worked hard to make the night, it is always difficult to satisfy a table of twelve. But they did with great professionalism, food fab and all meals served together and piping hot. Too much choice but all of us commented our individual meals were delicious. This restaurant is one of the best I have visited over the past 15 years.I have also visited on a Sunday night for the set meal night, again massive portions for a low price, Quality to. This little gem is hidden away no fancy sign posts and would drive past un-noticed, slow down and visit you will not be disappointed. I will use this now with my wife as our regular Indian restaurant. Well done and thanks. See you soon Mike.

Blink and you would miss this place as you travel thought taffs well as it's not obvious that there is a restaurant at the location. First impressions weren't great as the car park isn't great but once we entered the restaurant we were very impressed.

Eaten in and taken away. Both great. Only downside is the car park. Not the best when it's raining but well worth the hassle. Enjoy!

We have been coming here for some years now. We recently had a meal for my sons 16th birthday which my brother came with us. He lives in London and works / eats all over the world, he couldn't believe the standard of the food and the amazing friendly service, you feel like you are the most important customer. I feel we have taken such an amazing restaurant for granted , so thought I would let everyone know, it's a fantastic place to eat.

This is our 'local' Indian restaurant and the food is absolutely delicious and very reasonably priced. Our meal for 4 ( with two rounds of drinks) was £70.Although the exterior is not very inviting, the interior is beautifully decorated and welcoming. Whilst we were there, the restaurant was hosting two birthday groups and was absolutely but , despite this, the service from Sam & his staff was excellent. Definitely recommend this restaurant

The food is really good. Big portions and plenty of meat. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. Our first choice for an Indian meal every time.

Visited this Indian restaurant as part of a large group (24 in total) for friends anniversary celebration. Wasn't really sure as from the outside it looks like a house on the side of the road. How wrong I was, the staff were lovely so welcoming and attentive to all our needs. They sat us altogether but split the tables into 2 X couples (4 to a table) this made it so much easier when ordering and paying the bill. Good selection on the menu ( reasonably priced), although I'm a little fussy and prefer a dry dish rather than a curry. The waiter explained all the dishes to me, and even said when ordering ask and they may be able to do me something else, which is what I did, I requested a dry king prawn dish and they were more than happy to oblige. It was gorgeous and plenty of it too, rice, naan and poppadoms were cooked to perfection, finished off with a Kulfi ice cream ( amazing) . All others on my table complimented how good the food was too. Staff went above and beyond to make our visit a good one, can't wait to go back and taste some of the signature dishes.

Went here for a 50th birthday party for one of my wife's relatives.Was expecting it to be mediocre as I find that most Bangladeshi restaurants are okay, but that is as far as it goes?This place is very much a step up from the ordinary in almost every way.The owner Sam was most welcoming and professional and nothing was too much trouble for him. Friendly staff and an infectious host makes for an excellent overall experience.The restaurant was very clean throughout and toilet facilities were spotless.The food I had was absolutely superb from the starter to the nan breads and poppadums.Lovely pilau and mushroom pilau rice, everything cooked to a high standard by the very experienced chefs. I had a vegetable bhuna in a vindaloo sauce for a main and couldn't eat it all so he 'bagged it up' for me to take home.They have the superb Kingfisher lager on draught here and large bottles of Cobra behind the bar.This place has a five star hygiene rating and I would give it the same for its welcome and standard of food.I would definitely visit again when I have the opportunity to do so.Highly recommended.

The attention to detail, and level of service at this restaurant is second to no other Indian restaurant I have been! The choice is extensive, and the flavour of the food is delicious, with no sacrifice of flavour for heat. Although the exterior of this restaurant is unappealing, and even 'off putting', once inside the atmosphere, service and food is excellent.

Should really not be writing this review as I should be keeping this place secret and hidden away.This restaurant is located in Taffs Well and supplies the most fabulous curries ever. It has always been a nice place to go too but it is currently going through an internal revamp so will be even better when this is completed.We love curries and this is the only restaurant where the tastes are totally different and unique. We normally go as a couple but recently have taken our girls and they have also fallen in love with the food.it is all reasonably priced and they even supply a take out/ delivery service for those who can't get in.The staff are very good and Sam will do everything in his power to make sure you have an enjoyable experience when there.Looking forward to our next visit already.

Every time I go to the spice connisuer I know I am not going to be disappointed, the quality of each dish is over amazing- I would know as I have tried many of them and so have the rest of my family, and we are always pleased with our meal. In comparison to other Indian restraunts this is by far the best as the service is amazing and the food is superb! I recommend the chicken tikka korai, the mixed grill, and the chicken nargis! These have to be some of my favourite cuisines on the menu!

We called here last night as reviews were good andwe had not been for many years.The décor and outside appearance had not changed. Floors left uncovered and for the foor well the lamb could have been tender. The staff were polite but not friendle unless you are regular.

Visited tonight for the 3rd time and this time brought my dad who lives nearby. Each time the food has been really tasty, the service is great with friendly attentive waiters. I ordered the Thali which is a taster menu and loved it. Will definitely be back again, especially as it's such good value for money too

A great friendly welcome every time here, followed by superb freshly cooked Indian food. Recommended.An excellent take away or home delivery available also - I've had both and almost as good as dining in the restaurant.....only the service is missing.

I was introduced to this restaurant by a friend. Yes the outside could do with a little facelift but the welcome inside surpasses anything. The waiter is a quiet young man so don't be put off. He does smile now and again. He is attentive. The owner Sam goes out of his way to be helpful and takes a genuine interest in his clients. That particular night many of the tables were chatting away to Sam. I have also visited with my two young children and this is definitely child friendly. As far as the food is concerned I have never found fault with the taste or how hot the food is. Salads are crisp and fresh too. Nice selection of wines. The end of the evening never shocks you with the total on the bill. This place is great !!

Fantastic food, great service and a friendly warm welcome. I cannot fault this place. Recently went for a meal recommended by a friend and it was exceptional. The staff are welcoming and friendly and the food is superb (highly recommend the King Prawns). It was an absolute delight and we will definitely become regular visitors (despite us not living locally).

Good choice of veggie dishes and sides and the veg is not from the freezer either, unlike most other Indian restaurants. Totally yummy curries and fab service every time!

We visited the restaurant on a Thursday evening on a cool September evening. The food was delicious but the room was chilly. We would in future opt for a take away.

We are lucky to live close to The Spice Connoisseur which in my opinion is one of the best Indian restaurants arounds and my visit yesterday reaffirmed this! There is always a very warm welcome and the meals are consistently to a high standard whilst remaining reasonably priced. I look forward to my next visit!

We don't get up to this restaurant very often, but when we do we are always delighted with the service, atmosphere and of course the food. While the outside would merit would benefit from some attention in order to make it a bit more attractive, it isnt really what matters! Yes the staff are very friendly and the food is consistently good, well balanced & hot. The prices are very reasonably and our only regret is that we dont live more locally as it would be a firm favourite either for dining in or take-away! Try it, you wont be disappointed.

This is probably the best indian restuarant I have ever tried! From the outside it doesn't look anything special but that changes once you get in.The welcome received by all staff is ALWAYS so friendly and warm. The food is always cooked perfectly and any slight alterations you want to make they always accommodate. I would always recommend it and love going there!

This is a hideaway resturant with a secret. I am always met with a great welcome and hospitality whenever I visit here. However busy they are they always manage to squeeze you in. Being lucky to live quite near this resturant I visit here often.its great for a romantic meal.Or even a party.The food is always superb whatever I have ordered has been plentiful and excellent

was recommended this place so thought we would give it a try. Maybe coming from near the golden mile in leicester has spoilt me. we ordered a take of a chicken biryani lamb biryani and poppodoms. the biryani definitely wasn't oven cooked and was swimming in grease. The vegetable curry that comes with a biryani was that greasy it had separated in the pot. on the plus the poppodoms were fresh...although the onion are brown and the mint dip smells like paint. avoid at all costs!

This is my favourite restaurant in South Wales. The food is phenomenal, the service great and the familiarity with customers is what plants this firmly at the top of the standings for Indians in South Wales. I'd suggest that the reviewer who rated 1 star goes back to try again, as it was obviously a rare 'off' day. I've been coming to this restaurant for a couple of years now and it's nice to go somewhere where the staff are attentive and friendly.

Love this restaurant! - Staff, service and food are fantastic!My parents stumbled upon this restaurant one night and we have gone back several times for birthdays, aniversaries and I even arranged a fundraising event there once where we filled the restaurant!Food is always hot and the naans are just devine!The atmosphere may be quiet, but its nice, because you can just relax and you never feel like they are in a rush to get you out.

The food isn't cold, tasteless, greasy, watered down slop at all as CocoBunny1 suggests (maybe she's on about another restaurant as the The Spice Connoisseur has won awards for it's quality of food, service and value etc). In fact, the very opposite. The food is always hot when brought to the table and is always fresh and very very tasty.The service is also very professional and the staff are always very polite. The owner Sam is also very friendly and talkative and comes around to see if everything is alright with the meal etc.Like all restaurant's though they get their busy nights and their quiet nights so for CocoBunny1 to suggest the night she went in was quiet because of the food is ridiculous. This restaurant can and does get busy on numerous occasions. They even do banquets for weddings and other special occasions and they do so more often than none.I would highly recommend a dish called 'South Indian Garlic Chilli Chicken', which in my honest opinion is The Spice Connoisseur's signature dish. Also, the other dishes on the menu are very very nice but that one dish I mentioned is the best.

The atmosphere was nil! It was empty and after eating the food could understand why. Although the service was ok, the food tasted like it was watered down left overs, partially reheated with a few fresh tomatoes added! It was cold, greasy and tasteless. The only edible thing was the poppadoms. Even the rice was a slimy greasy slop. It put us and our friends off eating here ever again and even off eating Indian cuisine full stop!

My friend and I visited the restaurant last night, I found the details and name on a Curry restaurant application for the iphone and decided to give it a go, We arrived at the restaurant at 1830 and the place was empty, We were greeted by the waiter who took us to our table, First impression of the place was that it needs a good clean, a bit run down and dated but nothing too offputting, So we ordered from the menu, The food came with in 20 minutes and was really hot and fresh, I had a vegtable madras and my friend had a chicken tikka dupiaza, Both meals were very nice, plenty of rice and chips and a fluffy garlic nan bread, We also had popadums to start which were dry and stale so we left them, On the whole the food was very good, the atmosphere was ok but the waiter was not the most pleasant chap in the world, However I would def go back but I think I would rather a take away than a sit down meal. the price per head including a large cobra was £ 15.00, Very good, Thank you for a lovely meal. x

The food is absolutely stunning and the staff are very friendly and welcoming, Will definatley be going there again.
