The Soulville Steakhouse in Chesterfield

We absolutely loved it!!! So much we took the kids the following week and they loved it to. Definitely going to be a repeat customer.

Food was piping hot , generous portions and very tasty. Friendly helpful staff and fab music. Will definitely be visiting again.

Great atmosphere and service and tasty steak! I had the set menu 3 course for £18.95: teriyaki chicken wings to start, 6oz Rump steak with salad and peppercorn sauce and sticky toffee pudding with custard. Everything was delicious and the service was fairly quick. We did book for midday when the restaurant opened though, so it wasn’t too busy. steak was cooked perfectly for my liking and the salad was fresh and well presented.

Good friendly service but the food is not what it was.

We had our belated Valentine’s Day meal here on the weekend and it was lovely, a really chilled and calm atmosphere which is exactly what we wanted. Due to how busy it was we were waiting a little while for food but the manager gave us two free drinks because of this, as well as this when we arrived the table had rose petals and little hearts on (even though it wasn’t actually Valentine’s Day anymore) which was a lovely surprise and the staff clearly went out of their way to do this even though I didn’t request it. The food was very nice and we were both very happy. I want to thank the staff for making our night really special and how hard they were working which was so very obvious.

Lovely food ,friendly staff. Quick service. Food was piping hot and great prices. Atmosphere was a little bit of a let down. But that might have had something to do with the time of day we went. Definitely would recommend.

35 for a steak that come with frozen chips and a couple of mushrooms is poor but the fact that my steak had been cut to check how it was cooked was pretty bad and the worse pint I have ever had

So many places to eat when you google a town so you hope for the best. We did and we got the best. One of the tastiest ribeyes I've ever had, cooked to perfection.The atmosphere was wonderful, the decor interesting and fun and the soul music was superb. They're not too pricey for a nice treat and the staff were all knowledgeable, friendly and helpful, working very hard to make peoples' evenings memorable. All good and all designed to take us back there happily without hesitation.

Ordered BBQ ribs for starters which were very tasty and that nice I should of ordered 2 of them.. And for mains I had the gammon which was perfectly cooked and plentiful.. Service was good and quick and managed to get fed and back in time for the end of my dinner break..

I've visited Soulville many times, both in groups and as a couple, and we've always had a great time here. The service consistently hits the high notes, and the food has always been fantastic. The atmosphere is really nice, with great music to enjoy your meal. The decor is a bit tired in places, but you could argue it adds to its charm. The staff is really nice; last time we were there, we stayed for drinks after, and we were the only ones in. I asked the lady at the bar what time they close, and she said anytime, adding that we could stay as long as we like. I would totally recommend Soulville for its friendly staff, great food, and lovely atmosphere.

The best food in Chesterfield and great value too.

Toughest ribeye I've had to try to tolerate in a long time. Not paying for it is no compensation for a spoiled meal.

Don't go anywhere else for the Sunday roast delicious, wholesome, quality grub, oh and value for money too

Within the centre of town we found this pub with a groovy 80's layout, vibe, a decor. 😎 (apart from their clothing)😅 Hospitality: 5/5 Exceptional service for our huge crowd; (additionally as-well before we even arrived). Food: 5/5 Everything we had was done to the highest quality. My food was fresh; with a taste of orriginal craftsmanship. My cheescake was deliciously creamy. 🎂 Layout: 5/5 Great size; with great character a style. A timeless location from the 80's with modern touches here a there. The upstairs private loft; (booking); sounds quite interesting Note: bathroom could do with a slight renovation, or modernising. +1 🌟 - very friendly, a reliable when booking at last minute. Note that unlike most eating establishments; this one typically shuts before eavening arrives.

Poor we was at your establishment last night for a 60th birthday surprise ,we was told to pre order our meal which we did ,but there was a mistake with our meal one of our party didn't even get his ,a child had to wait for his, his parent complained, your response was you hadn't ordered ,this was not acceptable, what was supposed to have been a celebration turned out to be a real disappointment, and to make matters worse, four members of our party had pork belly for starters and they are now ill a very disappointed customer x

We went to celebrate a birthday and it was so nice. There was 9 of us and all the meals came out together and hot. We also took a birthday cake and they kindly sorted it all out for us, it was perfect. Will definitely be going back.

Excellent service, really lovely atmosphere and interesting menu. The food was delicious and I was very happy when the option to take dessert home! Will be coming again.

Had been wanting to try this place for a while now - the lady that served us was great but the food was a huge disappointment. Ordered the pork and chicken bites to start and they was tough as old boots… ordered the lasagne and that seemed to be saltier than the Dead Sea. At least the lasagne was refunded but we’ll not bother in future if simple dishes can’t be done right.

As we was in Chesterfield for a long weekend and also celebrating wedding anniversary we decided to go to the Soulville steakhouse for a meale, it was very good value for money the food and drinks where of the highest standard, and really enjoyable. The next time we're in Chesterfield we will make our way there, the staff were very friendly. the restaurant was very clean and tidy with plenty of space and they did not rush you to clear the table to get the next customer in.

Been coming to The Soulville since it first opened in 2010 and still coming monthly 13 years later. A few changes have been made but its still a good place to eat. You get a good plate of food and never go away feeling hungry. The staff are very friendly and helpful so keep up the good work. Jane n pat

I visited here over 10 years ago and it was quite nice. Myself and my partner visited on a Friday evening and I was disappointed. The food was "okay" nothing to shout home about. We had starters, main, pudding and two alcoholic drinks each the total bill was over £85. The service was quick and friendly but the atmosphere was a little dull. I think I expected more from a themed place. It's an okay place but I don't think we would go back any time soon.

Stumbled across this place as we were passing by, would highly recommend. Everything was cooked to perfection and the portions were great. Staff also lovely, could not fault it at all. I haven’t been here for about 10 years as the last experience wasn’t very good. Gave it another go tonight the food was beautiful I had the stuffed chicken and my friend had a rump steak with Stilton sauce then we finished off with biscotti cheesecake which was amazing. The girls were so lovely and attentive 10/10 can’t wait to come again thankyou x

Still my favourite steak house, staff are brilliant but my last few visits my main meal was a little disappointing, not much garnish and only a handful of chips, the steaks are still top notch 👌 and I will still recommend it to others.

Me and my family went on a Friday night. We were shown to our table by a very friendly young man and our drinks order taken straight away. There was a great selection of meat dishes and selection of non-meat dishes also, our order was taken: vegetable lasagna, rump steak, ribs and rump steak, when the food came it was piping hot and presented very well. We also ordered pudding which was very nice. Would highly recommend for a family night out or if you are celebrating anything special

Waiting ages for drinks, the server totally forgot about the second round until we went up to the bar. ... not the best of starts. The starters in all fairness were good, the mains not so. The steaks were over cooked, and when we complained to the server she said she'd ask and then we didn't see her again. It's not a cheap Wetherspoons type place, and there are alternatives available. We won't be back.

Me, my wife + another couple eat at this restaurant probably 5-6 times a year and overall always come away well fed and watered and generally pleased however, and maybe it's because of Covid, the standard of service from the staff is definitely declining. I would seriously question whether some of the staff have received any training at all with regards to waiting on. Some of the things that we have experienced are staff collecting plates from the table whilst others are still eating, not knowing what food they don't have, not knowing what drinks they sell, or don't sell and the best of all, which occurred on a visit about two months ago was when we had all finished and were just about to settle the bill one of the staff asked "ave you dun wi yer cups"!! meaning had we finished our drinks and could she clear them away, minor things i know but come on, show a little professionalism. The music is generally great, some of the tables though are in drafty areas from the door, my wife was perished to be honest, nothing worse than eating when you're freezing. The desserts were microwaved so much they were hard on the bottom and stuck to the bowl however we mentioned this and they did remove them from the bill but i/we just wanted a nice dessert... The manager comes across as being very assured and helpful but to be truthful i found her to be a little too forceful and borderline rude, just my opinion! It probably won't stop us going back but they really do need to have a look at these things and make a judgement for themselves whether visitors are really having a nice experience or not, for sure places like this will not survive in these post Covid days if they don't deliver value for money!! The evening wasn't cheap either!!

We were welcomed by a friendly lady who took our drinks order & served them promptly. We then placed our order & our food arrived in good time. It was well presented & my half rack of ribs were very tender - the meat fell off the bone - & the BBQ sauce was great. My husband ordered a rib eye steak & it cut like butter, was perfectly cooked & only had a tiny bit of gristle, he said it was the best steak he’d ever had -he used to be a chef & knows his steaks! We definitely recommend this restaurant.

This restaurant was recommended to us by the barman at our hotel. There is a varied menu - steaks, ribs, burgers, pasta etc). We both opted for the 8oz sirloin, which was cooked exactly as we had asked for it and was very tasty. The food was filling, and good quality for the price. We were served quickly and efficiently. It was early in the evening, but the restaurant was filling up which added to the atmosphere. The ‘Theme’ is soul music, which I love and there was a very interesting selection being played,madding to our enjoyment. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who likes good steak and soul music.

Not great, very average in fact. The restaurant was empty. This was a birthday meal out which had been mentioned when booking but they didn't even bother to light the candle on the table. This is the third time we have visited this restaurant and this was another great meal with something even better than previous visits. When we have been before the ambience and atmosphere has been fantastic and the food OUT OF THIS WORLD. In our two previous visits (which we have not left reviews for on Trip Advisor) the service has been good to fair with either a service like manner and little interaction or multiple servers which did not allow any rapport to be built. This time we had a single server throughout by the name of Briony (hope I got that right) who was amazing. She kept us entertained and really made the visit special. The food and atmosphere were as before top notch but Briony really put the icing on the cake. We will be back.

Really enjoyed my visit to Soulville on Friday night. The food was the best its been in a long time. Steaks were cooked well and accompaniments all tasty. The service on the drinks was a little slow but the restaurant was full. My only suggestion would be to add a fruity dessert like the key lime cheesecake they used to do as not everyone likes a chocolatey/toffee style dessert.

Taken for meal tonight by friends what a great place, great staff, lovely atmosphere and good food, would highly recommend, just hope people use it more to help it survive through this horrible times.

Called in at the Soulville Steakhouse Chesterfield on the off chance for lunch today as there were queues at the other places we had intended to eat. I do not think I will be returning any time soon. The place was dark and dreary and the menu less than inspiring. There were a few customers but no real atmosphere and the food itself when it arrived was pretty plain and drab. I had the scampi and chips and for the list price of £9.95 it was poor. There were only 7 pieces of scampi, a dessert spoon of mush peas and some very ordinary chips. The salad garnish was wilted and looked at depressed as I felt on seeing it. My husband had the gammon and chips which was average, and my niece the veggie burger and salad which she enjoyed. I mentioned the fact that I thought the meal was over priced and underwhelming on leaving and was treated very politely so I cannot complain about the service which was good. But over all a very poor show and I am sure even in these trying times they could do a lot better. There is such a lot of competition out there so please Soulville I know you can do better and would like to see you thrive as a great local business.

The menu has been reduced here and is very limited. We had the steak, a burger which was reasonable. The onion rings consisted of 1 layer of onion withered to nothing leaving a rings of batter. My son had the chicken burger which was too tough to eat. The food here has definitely declined since we last visited 3 years ago. Price is ok. Service is good however stick to the red meats here.

Absolutely delicious. I cannot fault the service nor the meal. The steaks were cooked to perfection, the portions were generous and altogether the meal is 100% worth the money!!! I most definitely recommend it.

Absolutely loveley. Felt very safe. There was plenty of hand staintisers on the walls and staff were wearing face masks. Plenty of space between each table.The food was perfect. We popped into this restaurant whilst having a short break in Chesterfield, although i enjoyed the meal it wasn't anything special and i feel the inside could do with a make over.

Soulville is mine and the other half’s go to place when we really fancy a decent steak dinner. Service has always been pleasant, in the past we’ve also been for family meals and always thoroughly enjoyed it. Staff are friendly and welcoming, and if we’ve ever had an issue they’ve always been happy to help. Our eyes are usually too big for our bellies and sometimes we forget the portions are generous so we don’t always need the extra sides, but they’re so tasty! Would recommend to all and will hopefully be visiting again very soon.

We visited on Saturday and it wasn't too loud or busy, but there were several parties booked which I was pleased about. The food is excellent and the servers are really friendly. The atmosphere is really laid back and the music enhances the atmosphere. I really enjoyed coming here and the sweet potato veggie burger was one of the nicest offered at similar restaurants in the area. I would come back again! It made a difference from going to Wetherspoons for the same thing all the time.
