First booked the Sorn Inn for an anniversary meal for 17 people and everyone (including children) loved the food. Have been twice more and will be back for the new set menu on Wednesday. Fantastic food and our host David was very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Chef's menus are fine dining but at reasonable prices. Certainly our new place to eat out. Thanks David.

Booked as a surprise for my husband, while staying locally for a couple of days. The place looks very much like a 'normal' village pub from the outside, but the menu is definitely fine dining. We were the last table of the day, but the service was friendly and unhurried, and the (newly launched) tasting menu was excellent, very well thought out with varied ingredients, and also generous portions for this style of presentation. Waitress and barman were attentive and keen to explain the menu and drinks, and the chef was even kind enough to come out and chat for a little while afterwards, despite it being the end of service on a Sunday.

First of all let me say the reviews on here don’t do the place justice! Along with my friends I have been doing the Ayrshire walk and stumbled upon this gem of a pub. We had our 3 dogs in with absolutely no problem, Infact both treats and water were offered! The food and service was fantistic and you’re doing a great job at providing a fantastic atmosphere, which is rare to the local area. Will definitely recommend and be back!

The Sorn Inn has gone drastically downhill under its new owners. It was an amazing pub and steakhouse prior to being taken over but do not waste your time or money going now. I notice it’s currently for sale which would be the best thing to happen to it. We had a table booked for mother day - my husband booked the table and stated we would be there between 4 - 4:30. We were told that was fine and it was confirmed by email. However when we arrived at 4:20 we were told the head chef had left 10 minutes ago. No one had contacted us to tell us not to come and they clearly had no other bookings that day. I think the owners have given up on this venture and I hope it is taken over and improved sometime soon.

Visited using an Itison voucher for steak surf & turf. Decided to have soup for starters which was advertised as being served with freshly baked bread. The soup was served in a very small bowl and was tasteless. The bread was anything but fresh and felt and tasted like it had been lying in the back of a cupboard for a fortnight. Now for the steak. We asked for sirloin but was told there was none left and we would have to take ribeye. The steak arrived and one look put us off. This was certainly not ribeye and was more like some sort of reconstituted beef. I would have to say that it is the worst steak we’ve ever been served. The surf part was 3 sad looking small prawns that had been placed on top of the steak. The owner asked us how it was and we told him how dissatisfied and disappointed we were. To this comment he then became quite aggressive and told us to leave. He obviously doesn’t like criticism. We had our meal on a Saturday night and we’re the only people in the restaurant. Surely this must tell you something. We had booked the dining room but was told it was closed due to lack of clientele and that we would have to sit in the bar. We had been regular visitors and know that they recently lost their head chef who was very good. The food is now very substandard and nothing like the delicious food that was served by the previous chef. Come on Sorn…you need to do much better!!

My husband and I bought an itison voucher for brunch for £29 for The Sorn Inn. When we arrived at 12 we were the only ones in the restaurant. I ordered the eggs benedict with the sauce on the side and my husband ordered the full scottish breakfast. We had to wait a while, I'm unsure how long exactly but we weren't too bothered as we thought our food was all being made fresh. When it arrived, my husband's food look really nice. No complaints there. My eggs benedict consisted of 2 cold toasted slices of bloomer bread. One with 1 slice of fried bacon on it and the other with 1 poached egg. The hollandaise sauce was in fact mayonnaise. I called the waitress over and told her this wasn't what I ordered. I ordered eggs benedict which was stated on the menu as a toasted muffin, ham and poached eggs with a hollandaise sauce. She was lovely. She apologised and said she would take it back to the kitchen. After she done this she returned and said that there was no muffins left and would I like to order something else. By this point my husband was halfway through his breakfast. Why was eggs benedict even on the menu if there were no muffins?? I told the waitress I would have the full scottish breakfast then. By this time there was 2 other tables filled and the eggs benedictwas still being sold. Our waitress brought me over another coffee while I waited on my breakfast. It wasn't quick. It was alright when it arrived. But not great. The toast was still cold and there wasn't any butter. Zoe our waitress was wonderful. Whatever the owners are paying her, just isn't enough. She was apologetic, attentive and calm under pressure. Why didn't the chef tell Zoe to take the eggs benedict off the menu as it was still being sold when we were leaving. What kind of chef thinks cold toast, bacon and mayo is eggs benedict? We have been to the Sorn Inn on numerous times before and the food has been outstanding. Such a shame as we do like to eat out and support local and smaller restaurants but we won't be hurrying back.

While this place is advertised as a specialised steak house, the food was a far cry from special. The steaks were so salty, I just couldn’t eat the other half. The potato mash was bland with undercooked pieces of potato in it. The salad was quite good and my family seemed to enjoy the onion rings. They were short staffed, so the food came out quite late. Of course, these things happen; and they didn’t charge full price for the food which was courteous of them. However, it would have been a tad more professional if they had made me aware of the staffing issue over the phone, especially as we were coming with a smaller child. Overall, I would not be inclined to visit again.

Sorn Inn has just been listed as one of Scotland's top dog friendly pubs. What a pity it isn't people friendly. Front of house has one of the rudest wee men I have ever encountered. My wife and I dropped in before 6 on Sunday evening. A young girl asked how she could help and I asked if it was possible to accommodate two people for dinner. I explained that we did not have a reservation. She asked me to wait for a moment whist she went to ask. A wee man suddenly appeared and barked “whaddaya want” I was quite taken aback by his manner but asked if he could accommodate two for dinner and explained we had no reservation. “Chef is cooking for nine people already” he practically shouted at us “you’ll need to wait”. At that I turned and walked away. He then trotted after me asking me to stay saying “you can have a drink while you wait” but it was already too late. This man’s rude manner had already tainted the evening and there was no way I could have enjoyed dining there after that unpleasant experience. My wife and I went on to The Fairburn in Mauchline where the young girl in charge welcomed us with a big friendly smile and served us a lovely meal. She was attentive but not overbearing throughout service.Sorn Inn has a good reputation for food but has a major problem front of house.

I visited the Sorn Inn one weekday evening, while it was not busy it wasn't quiet, but there was a choice of tables and the two wait staff were able to get a good balance of being attentive and allowing us privacy to enjoy our meals. The inn is a good, old-fashioned country inn, and while the decor may be a little faded it was clean and nicely presented. We got a warm welcome, and were quickly shown our tables and given menus and wine lists. The selection of drinks was good, and the menu was extensive enough to give us problems deciding but was not overwhelming. Our waiter was attentive enough that we didn't need to wait to long for service, and was friendly and helpful, offering advice on the dishes when asked. The kitchen was visible from our table, and we could see it was clean, organised and well kept and when the food arrived it was extremely good, certainly better than the average. Not only was the food well presented, but the ingredients had been chosen with some care to balance well and they were of good quality; the lamb I had was tasty, but not fatty complimented with rich flavours that did not overpower. The bream fillet was also extremely well cooked, a dish that is easy to undercook and overcook was served to perfection, and again well complemented. The price was a nice surprise; two starters, two main courses and a bottle of wine costing £65 was a very good price considering the quality and service provided.

The chef is innovative and there were several unusual dishes on the menu - there were 4 of us and we all chose different things as starters and main courses and everyone enjoyed what they had . The couple of us who had dessert also enjoyed it . Realistic pricing for the high quality of food and pleasant staff

Been here on numerous occasions as they do the best Steak in Ayrshire. Decided to try the Sunday lunch and certainly didn't disappoint. I had the Prawn Cocktail to start and my wife had the Chicken Parfait. Both excellent !!We both had Roast Sirloin of Beef and it was outstanding. All cooked to perfection, but the Cauliflower Cheese needs a special mention.I couldn't manage a dessert but my wife managed a cracking Strawberry Creme Brulee. Will definitely be back on a Sunday real soon.

We came across this fantastic pub on the River Ayr walk whilst staying in Auchinleck. The service was fantastic, the young waitress fussed over our dog bringing her treats and water.Made to feel very welcome by everyone. The steak was the best i have ever tasted.Highly recommended

Returned to the Sorn Inn for dinner with family. The food was as good as I remember it. Everyone enjoyed their dishes. Steak was sublime and reasonably priced. The ham hock terrine starter was very tasty. We ordered wine, the quality of the wines is excellent for the price. I have paid lots more for wine that wasn't anywhere near as good in other places.

I've visited here maybe 7 times despite the fact its an hour drive from my home. It's always worth the trip, the steak is the best i've had. Starters, sides and desserts are always perfect too. The rest of the menu looks excellent but I don't think I could go there and pass up the steak. The wine and whisky selection is also very good, there's something for everyone.

We go to Sorn inn regularly as a family for a meal and the food is amazing. Nearly every single time I go I get a seasoned steak as I cannot go by it. I don't take a steak anywhere else because nowhere compares to Sorn inn! The sweets are a delight too and they always have a selection of homemade ice cream. The service is always with a smile and they could not do enough for you. A high class meal in a small village in the heart of Ayrshire, beautiful scenery.

My husband and I had lunch here today and really enjoyed it. My husband had the burger with black pudding and fried egg, and I had the steak pie. Everything was absolutely delicious, and the quality of the ingredients was evident. The service was also very good. Why not a 5? Because the pastry on my steak pie hadn't been cooked with the meat, meaning it was very flaky and disintegrated when I tried to eat it. So, more like a stew, albeit a delicious one, with a pastry hat! Having said that, we'll definitely return.

Visited here as guests of pals who had been previously. Since this was a celebration treat, they had set out to select well & it showed. From starters through mains to desserts the quality & distinctive choices of the food shone through. Food obviously prepared from scratch with none of the usual "Brake" meal signs. Will go back again

Superb meal, double new yorker ribeye cooked to perfection. Dessert of affogato fantastic with freshly made donuts.Cherry delice was 'to die for' Kids meal was homemade chicken goujons, not your usual kids frozen fast food that many restaurants now serve.Malbec was reasonably priced and very tasty. I regularly eat out and this has been my favourite place to date of anywhere in the UK. If this was in the city, food would be three times the price for award winning bib gourmand quality food, as recommended in Michelin guide. A hidden treasure. Roy

Good service on a busy evening and a friendly atmosphere. A delicious starter of cauliflower croquette with puree and piccalilli was followed by a substantial portion of carbonara with a wonderful sauce and Ayrshire bacon. Great combination of high quality local produce and international cuisine.

We visited the restaurant today, for Sunday lunch. We ordered from the lunch menu and a la Carte. All courses uniformly excellent, roast beef cooked precisely to order which is unusual in other Restaurants serving Sunday roasts. Great service, excellent maitre'd. The ladies had dessert, both dishes being clever, delicious and well presented.Daughter particularly enjoyed Guinea fowl main course. Everything cooked by people who very obviously know what they are doing.Never disappointed at Sorn Inn, from popping in for a burger and a pint to having family dinners. Highly recommended.

We visited last Saturday and enjoyed a lovely meal. Local rabbit terrine to start and tender lamb for main. Had no room for pudding. Reasonably priced and good quality food which I believe is sourced quite locally. The staff are very friendly. There is a cosy little bar for a pre-dinner drink. For us the restaurant was a bit overlit and dimming the lights would create a better ambience. The local people are friendly too. We stayed overnight in our motor home. The Inn car park was too small to accommodate us but the bowling club next door kindly allowed us to park overnight. I got the impression that cars frequently use this car park assuming it belongs to the Inn. If you're going to park there please ask

While visiting in Ayrshire, we took a local friend's recommendation and drove into lovely Sorn to the Sorn Inn, on July 29, 2016. The casual friendly bar was comfortably crowded, mostly locals. Service in the well lighted welcoming restaurant was appropriately unhurried, friendly and well paced. Our dinners were very good with moments of brilliance, especially in the sauces and vegetable purees. Three evening later (Aug. 2), along with another couple, we came back for seconds.

We cannot sing the praises of this wonderful establishment enough. What was planned as a 212 mile trip from Leeds to enjoy the menu and stay overnight resulted in an amazing weekend break. Craig is without doubt one of the best chefs we have had the privilege to be served by. The quality of the meat and fish are first-class but Craig takes things to another level! The 10oz Ribeye is so good with proper, triple cooked chunky chips and the lightest of onion rings. Check out the website for the comprehensive menu. Breakfast is a master piece. Porridge like no other with Drambuie. The finest ingredients in the full cooked breakfast and outstanding smoked haddock served with poached egg. The presentation of dishes means a feast to the eyes. Every detail is considered. Would have loved to have stayed longer and enjoyed more of the menu. Reserving a room and booking a table in the restaurant is advisable as this little gem is obviously not such a secret! The warmth of the hospitality, comfort and cleanliness of the rooms and efficiency of all the waiting staff, especially Amy, really make having to leave difficult! A welcoming atmosphere in the well stocked bar and some delicious Malbec. You would never dine here and leave feeling hungry. We will definitely be returning but next time for longer! Thank you Craig, George and Amy for looking after us so well and making us feel so welcome. A faultless experience.

We arrived, forgetting it was Father's Day, at about 2:15. It was pretty busy and many tables had been reserved. We were, however, quickly shown to a table and given menus and drinks list. Very pleasant young local waitress who was happy to discuss menu options( and art work on walls. )We chose two courses each from the Father's Day menu which was very reasonably priced at £19:95. (£23:95 for three)My smoked haddock croquettes on mushy peas was delicious. Robin's chicken parfait with a superb onion chutney was also scrumptious. It was meant to be served with brioche bread but Robin finds that too sweet so asked for an alternative. No problem! Homemade cheese biscuits were a welcome substitute. To the mains! My crispy pork belly with black pudding mash, cauliflower piccalilli and green beans was melt in the mouth unctuousness.Robin's sea bass accompanied by crushed baby potatoes and red pepper and fennel veg was mouthwatering. A bottle of Chilean Sauvignon Blanc priced at £15 rounded it all off perfectly. Delicious espresso and a chocolatey bon-bon were just enough to complete our unexpectedly lovely experience. We had heard of The Sorn Inn before but this was our first visit. It will not be our last! The accommodation looks lovely too and seems to be reasonably priced.

Visited on Saturday and had the most enjoyable meal yet again. Sat in the Chop House section but had the al a carte menu.Started off with Rabbit Terrine with a carrot chutney and this was a real surprise. Did not think something as simple as carrots could be interesting but the chef really knew how to add real depth of flavour with the addition of the spices.Terrine flavoursome and a change from my usual scallop starter. Hubby had the beef tartare which he thoroughly enjoyed and was light enough for him to enjoy his mains.Special fish dish was monkfish which I had and he had the guinea fowl. Both dishes excellent and none of your tiny wee portions. In fact I could not finish the pasta with my monkfish but I made a damn good try! Although we were full we asked for a short break to make room for desserts(can’t make the journey down here and then pass on the desserts). I choose the strawberry parfait and meringue and he had the apricot tart. As we both had a little of each other’s the apricot tart won the day. I love the Sorn Inn because you get high end cooking without the stuffiness of some other establishments. Looking forward to my next visit.

We went to this pub quite last minute and we're accommodated well. The food was very tasty though I felt the veg and potatoe was a little overly buttered. They were welcoming towards our two dogs and put out a bowl of water for them when we arrived. The staff were very friendly and we enjoyed the whole experience.
