Buffet night was absolutely lovely. Nothing better than to have a little bit of everything and thats what we did. Could not fault it. Good food , friendly staff, warm and clean. Will definitely return.

Fantastic family meal. Service very friendly and personal...nothing too much bother. Meal was first class ....starters, mains and drinks for 6 for £140...great value for money and delicious...a great evening to celebrate daughters birthday...thank you and cant wait to come back🥰

we were a party of 12, seemed as though they could not cope. Service was spasmodic, starter arriving over a period of time, with two not showing up at all. Mains were even more chaotic, with some getting all of their meal, some getting part of it and 30 mins later the other dishes showing up, with the first dished now cold ] Food itself was in my opinion average at best, a shame

Been coming here for many years and food is always good. Definitely one of the top choices in Galashiels. Perhaps could have done with staff with a bit more experience this time., and the very noisy crowd in the conservatory did spoil things a bit this time (not the restaurant s fault)

This was the worst curry i have had i do think should have an food hygiene inspection given that the buffet temperature so dry and so cold food it is only for a drunken men who have no taste i should not have payed the bill

Another visit with friends to an old favourite and not disappointed. Staff were lovely, as always, and food was top. Good atmosphere and reasonable prices - what’s not to like?

I regularly get a takeaway curry from The Shish and everyone is delicious, whether it is a lamb madras or a chicken tika balti the quality never drops, thoughroughly recommended...

Before lockdown we enjoyed several delicious meals here. Our takeaway last night was so different. The prawn Korma did not taste like a Korma, it had a very odd watery sauce and the lamb Passanda was tasteless. What's happened?

We've been coming here for years and always enjoyed the food but the quality and amount has been getting worse and worse over the last few takeaways and unfortunately this will be our last from shish. Tonight's takeaway was very disappointing. Tough chicken tikka, watery curry sauce and undercooked peshwari and plain nan.

Sunday evening take away , very pleasant staff and was told exactly when I could pick up my order. Main meal & side dish were fresh and as they say no crazy colouring . Plenty of value in these tasty curries and real proper big chappatis ❤️

Food always good friendly place with exellent staff. They are kind to always add free pomadoms and other items and always want to please the clients.

Tried the Tuesday evening buffet for our first visit. Choice of two starters with dips, salads, pickle and popadoms. Great selection of curries with rice and a hugh naan bread between two. Very fresh, hot abd tasty food. Not highly hot and spiced which suited me. Nevertheless, very tasty and flavoursome food. Drinks are reasonably priced too. The restaurant is clean and the staff are very friendly and welcoming. We would eat here again.

We got a take-away for the three of us Food was excellent. Very high quality. Best we have had for ages Lamb Rogan Josh. Fine flavour, tender meat, loads of fresh sauce and tomatoes, capsicum and onion Bindi Bhajee. Generous ladyfingers, great flavour, lots of fresh tommies, capsicum and onion Aloo Channa. Potato and chickpeas. Good flavour, lots of fresh tommies, capsicum and onion Tarka Daal. Delicious. Great flavour and texture. Hints of spicy, nutty, smokeyness This place is good. We visited on Sunday night, five of us plus our baby. All of our curries were lovely, we had chicken garlic chilli & a lamb one. I loved the chicken, big pieces of tender chicken & my husband said lamb was cooked to perfection. The naan bread is to die for, so fluffy but crispy edge & plenty of garlic! The staff are all so lovely & gave lots of attention to our baby especially the girls at the front. Great meal & genuine lovely people x

Popped into this restaurant recently, without booking and received a very warm welcome. We were shown to a table immediately and service was rapid, without being pushy. The food arrived in good time and both our starters and mains were excellent and plentiful, making it a real struggle to finish the accompanying giant naan bread. The staff were well trained and polite and the Proprietor (Aziz) was an excellent host. Both the food and staff are a credit to this restaurant and I would have no hesitation recommending to Asian Food lovers.

Very popular with the locals so book ahead at weekends and buffet nights.Portions are large so I’d recommend sharing starters if you want to finish your mains. I had previously visited for a meal and was disappointed. On talking to friends they were very complimentary about the food so I thought we'd give it a second chance...perhaps we were unlucky the first time.Ordered a takeaway meal and curry sauce was thin and watery, completely lacking in flavour.No third chance, we won't be back.

Just back from The Shish. Our first visit here and certainly not our last. Excellent service, great menu, generous portions and fab food. Highly recommend.

We’ve been going to the Shish for a long time but I’ve only just joined trip advisor so thought we’d better give Aziz and his family run restaurant the recommendations it rightly deserves.

Great value for money, the Tuesday and Thursday nights when you can try a bit of everything on the buffet is excellent. The service is fabulous very attentive and nothing is to much trouble.

Traditional curry house food done to a very high standard. Can highly recommend the buffet, it is excellent value, a good choice of dishes and includes a huge naan (one between two). Staff very friendly. Visited on a Tuesday night, was easy to park on the street right outside.

We ate at the sheesh restaurant with other couples children and friends. The menu was huge, great variety in selection and price points. Even the children’s menu was interesting. The portions are enormous , be prepared to feast and by the way; the pushwari Naan bread was to die for.

I had a lovely meal here and the choices were great, zingy Indian food at it's best and very efficient and friendly serving staff. No complaints from me!!

Was recommended this restaurant by owners of Watson Lodge guest house who kindly booked a table for us prior to our visit. Serving staff were extremely pleasant and helpful especially Dawn and we were seated in a nice quiet area.

We had the buffet which was excellent and such good value. The food was delicious and as someone else has mentioned the Nanns are amazing. Friendly, helpful family business. A lovely relaxing evening after a day gardening, couldn't have been better!

I had the chance to be here for a birthday, the woman ho walked us to our table has been really accommodating and put us at ease. Same for the waiter. We could choose between the buffet and the menu even on the same table, the food was prepared at order and the service was quick. Recommended.

The food is just devine! The nann breads are huge and amazing! Take out is an option as is sit in I had my 18th meal in here 10years ago and is still amazing

Im from Birmingham originally, HOME of the CURRY MILE and I must say this place puts us to shame with Portion Sizes and Taste.

Simply fantastic food and service. The mixed pakora was fresh hot and very tasty. The Turkish sizzler was about the best lamb I have ever tasted. My wife had the Sheish karahi gosht which is simply one of the tastiest dishes I’ve ever tasted. We had a garlic nan that was massive and a change from the normal nans you get.

a great evening out with the local car club, we were well looked after, the service is spectacular, the portion massive, I do mean massive, none of us got through our meals, my only downside the chicken seemed very dry in the meals, shame , other wise a really great night, highly recomended

Went in with my wife after the cinema for the first time and had a warm welcome from the staff, I am not a big Indian food fan but I loved the pork in the sauce it was superb . The service was excellent and would recommend it to anyone give it a try.

Great for carry out never had a bad meal , the chicken patia is great , staff are very plesant and helpfull well worth a visit.

After spending a day shopping in Gala with girlfriends I suggested we choose The Shish for some great food where we could relax and enjoy ourselves. We had a fun night and loved the meal. Service was spot on.

Another visit to our favourite local Indian restaurant, this time with extended family. Staff were friendly as always!

Very large portions served by friendly and helpful staff. We ordered kebabs which were nice by themselves but came with a very bland sauce. Vegetable rice was ok but again bland. Given the large servings out waiter was very obliging in sorting out a very generous doggy bag.

Fantastic food, by far the best Indian in the Borders. Very good variety on the menu, Great service. 10/10

The Shish restaurant never disappoints. We have visited this restaurant on many occasions and the quality of food is excellent. Prices are average and the service is always good - staff are very pleasant and helpful. Although service is efficient customers are never made to feel rushed. Buffet nights are held twice weekly and are highly recommended as a good way of tasting different dishes.

We had sussed out a few restaurants before travelling down and initially decided on another one only to find it fully booked. That turned out to be a blessing in disguise as our second choice, the Shish provided both lovely food and excellent service. As usual we made the mistake of ordering two full main courses and as usual, couldn't finish them! I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who enjoys Indian cuisine.

Very disappointed expectations were higher, from reviews, dishes watered down, not much taste, okay if you have never tasted real Indian foodWe were sat in conservatory area not many people in, and the two sitting on table behind us, one of the women was droning on louder than anyone in there, about where she had ate what quantity of sausages you got, ectectect, she certainly liked the sound of her own voice glad to leave to get some peace and quiet lol

Family-run restaurant with lovely atmosphere. Patrons are clearly loyal customers and families are welcome. The food was good but not exceptional - but then again as a solo dinner I only tried one dish (chicken tikka masala).

What can i say best food, best customer service, best authentic food. Can't wait to go back. Hopefully this week!!

It was our first visit to the restraunt and all the staff were lovely and helpful. We intially went in with the intention of ordering a set curry but when we were showed the buffet we opted for that as there was a large variety of food on offer which looked delicious. All the food was home made which made it that extra bit special unlike most restraunts. I would recommend the beef curry and the naan which was my favourite. The restraunt has a large variety of dishes on offer and can cater for most tastes definitely one to visit.

We have had several meals here. The staff are always so friendly and helpfull, the service efficient and the food excellent. We had a delicious meal last night.Thank you to you all.

Dined at the Shish last night and enjoyed one of the best curries I have had in a long time. In addition to the food being excellent, the waiting staff were friendly, attentive and efficient. The restaurant was spotlessly clean and I cannot recommend this establishment too highly. It was a delightful evening and we will certainly return as often as possible

They do a great buffet on a Tuesday and Thursday night with lots of different varieties of Indian food. Family friendly too as i always go with my 2 young kids. Nothing is too much trouble for the owner who goes out of his way to make you comfortable and enjoy your dining experience at The Shish.

The owner is dedicated to providing the best in Asian Cuisine customers cn eat in the lovely restaurant or Order a take away, only the finest of authentic dishes are served. The owner is a true gentleman and goes that extra mile on quality of service

I can't believe the negative reviews appearing here. They simply do not reflect The Shish I've been eating in for a number of years. I have never had a disappointing meal, neither sit-in or takeaway - and I use The Shish at least once a week and will continue to do so.

Another good visit to the Shish for a family meal. We've been regulars for years and keep going back. Poppadums and dips to start - very nice. Mix of pakoras next - nice and fresh.Usually family favourites for mains, and the superb naan breads that you just don't get anywhere else!Suspect some of the staff were a bit new so weren't as clued up as usual.Good value too!

Me and my family went for a meal. Couldn't ask for a better dining experience . I had tandoori mix which was great and the meat was perfectly cooked. The staff couldn't do enough and bent over backwards to make sure my two year old got a dish that suited her. Will definitely be returning thank you

Had what should have been mild creamy korma it was terrible very very spicey hot and chicken was like rubber couldnt eat it!!!

Has the best food, the chicken chili garlic was so good! The nan was huge and the price was worth the meal. My kids had shared a korma, which was wonderfully creamy! Definitely will return and tell all my friends about it. Cannot wait until my next visit!

Food is good and the staff will always try to please. You are always asked if you are happy with the food,and should there be any problems the staff will do their best to help.

Decided to eat out here the other night and definitely won't be returning. The meals arrived at our table about 10 mins after ordering them. I ordered the chicken curry it was very runny and watery and had zero taste to it. Garlic nan wasn't much better. Il stick to gala tandoori next time I know I enjoy the meals in there.

We had the buffet, three adults and two children, £13.95 and £6.95 respectively. Although there was a good selection of food the chicken, beef and lamb were all tough. We upgraded to a Peshwari nan and ordered some chips, the nan was tasteless and the chips seemed a very cheap brand. We ordered a bottle of wine but our glasses were left, as was the bottle, full as it really wasn't nice, I've never left a nearly full bottle of wine in a restaurant before!!! This was a really disappointing meal, maybe their standard menu is better but I for one will never find out. The staff were very nice unfortunately the food was anything but.

We visited the Shish Tandoori in Galashiels on Thursday night at approx. 7.45pm. We did not have a reservation and were told by staff that every table in the restaurant was taken. However, we were advised that, if we would like to take a seat in the reception area, as soon as a table became available, we would be taken through, which we were after 5 mins.It was buffet night and very busy. Despite this, the staff were extremely polite and had time to cater for our needs. The food was excellent and the menu was very carefully thought out. We probably ate more than we should have for our own good, but it was so delicious that we found it hard to stop.At no time were we rushed with our meal and we would heartily recommend this restaurant to any curry lovers who are looking for Indian food of the highest quality.

Reading previous reviews I am at loss how anyone can poo poo this restaurant .Doctors waiting room !! What doctor do you go to !!.This family run business take there food major serious.Staters can weigh you down a bit as the main course is huge be clear on what you want if you wish to have no rice or more sauce tell them they are not mind readers.Anyway I am going on a bit go enjoy and be happy Ps garlic nan wow .

I was looking for a restaurant to celebrate a special birthday, something that would suit the whole family. I remembered the warm friendly service at the Shish so felt they would create the right atmosphere. Well, what a night we had. Fantastic food with choices for young and old. I felt very pampered and certainly had a memorable celebration thanks to all the staff at The Shish.

Was staying in Melrose for a weekend for my fiancés birthday, and decided we were going to the cinema on sat night on her birthday. We both fancied a Indian so me like doing my research on trip advisor I decided to try the shish for dinner.The staff were very friendly and food was superb and was very quickly cooked compared to other Indian restaurants I've been to in the past, I could tell it was going to be a good meal as their was a large waiting area for people taking away meals, and consider we sat beside the kitchen the amount of meals coming out was impressive how quickly we were fed.If your in Galashiels then I would defo recommend this place, portions are big and so tasty and fillingPs only order one nan bread, its large and filling

Having been devotees of The Shish for many many years and now living sixty miles away, it is still our very first choice restaurant every time we visit The Borders. The food is first class, freshly cooked and quite superior to other Indian menus - eating in or taking out. Portion sizes are generous too. Exceptionally nice staff and a warm welcome always add to the experience. Wouldn't go past it!!

Best Indian food I have ever tasted. Tried lot's of other places but nowhere else compares to this. Would always choose this restaurant before any other one. Great quality food and the buffet on Tuesdays and Thursdays are great value for money. Would highly recommend to anyone.

I first fell in love with the Shish Restaurant in the early '90's. It's credit to Aziz and his family that it's still such a popular restaurant. The food is delicious and the nan breads are the biggest and tastiest I've ever had. Service is both friendly and professional. I often struggle to choose what to order from the menu as I have so many favourites, so their buffet nights on Tuesdays and Thursdays suit me best... as then I can have a little bit of everything.

Not a great place. The entrance looks like a doctors waiting room and the toilets are like something from a public park. We - like others before got served soft poppadoms which we sent back. The curry was fine. The staff were lovely - really good service.

Greeted by customers leaving stating we would not be disappointed suggested our group had made the right choice for a good Indian Curry as new visitors to Galashiels. Sadly our first introduction to the cuisine by way of an order of poppadoms for the table was a great let down as they were distinctly soggy and unappetising and had obviously been prepared early in the evening. That said a word with the attentive waiter the offending items were quickly removed and a very fresh batch was delivered not too long afterwards. My King Prawn Dansak was brimming over the edge of the bowl and was very tasty. My colleagues Lamb Pasanda was even better with a rich creamy sauce. A variety of other meals were also enjoyed although a vegetable curry did not quite hit the mark. Washed down with a good selection of beers on offer the whole experience was welcomed by our group but I am still surprised that a restaurant of this quality could serve stale food as a starter. Not a great introduction but let's hope this error is not repeated with less culinary aware clients.

Just can't fault anything with the Shish. The staff are friendly are helpful from the minute you walk through the door.We all ate from the buffet. There was a decent selection of starters and pickles all of which were well made and tasty. The selection if mains was really good with something for everyone. The dishes were flavoursome and well spiced, not being overly hot for those who dont like it but not too little for tnose who do, well balanced. The meat including the lamb and beef were cooked to perfection.The nan breads were huge and perfectly cooked.I would highly recommend the Shish and hopefully will get to return soon, its been too long.

Decided to try the #1 rated restaurant in Gala after a trip to the cinema next door.Ordered a couple of starters and a main;The poppadoms were soft with next to no bite to them.Chicken Pakora had zero taste at all.Veg Pakora wasn't great either.Chicken Korma had very 'tough' pieces of chicken in it. I for one won't be eating there again, maybe it was an off night for them but that's no excuse.Disappointed especially after being listed as #1 in the area.

We had a delicious meal at The Shish in Gala as part of our son's 18th birthday celebrations and, as usual it was superb. Friendly, accommodating staff and lovely, comfortable surroundings, we always enjoy eating here and takeaways are to the same high standards. Guaranteed a delicious, fresh cooked authentic Indian meal, just the best. Can I score it higher than a 5?

Very authentic Indian menu, and great execution. We had the buffet and it was well done. Naans were especially tasty. Varying degrees of "heat" are available to suit your taste.

Party of 5 had curry night at Shish last night and we all thoroughly enjoyed our meals.Lovely food and excellent cheery friendly service. We will return shortly .

It was our first visit to the restaurant and I'm sure will be one of many. Thats really all one needs to know. But to make a more interesting read, the food was very good, well prepared and not over-spiced. Nice cotton table cloths and serviettes too.The restaurant is not overcrowded with tables and the staff are particularly attentative especially one young female waitress who was relatively new to their employ.I hope next time we can take friends....I'm sure they'll enjoy as much as we did.

First visit to the Shish in some time after a slight dip in quality but now back to their best!We only had mains but they were absolutely top notch. Tender chicken in rich sauces. The naan bread remains possibly the best you'll get anywhere.Staff are excellent. Looking forward to going back soon!

I have been a regular for many years and the food and service are excellent. Great hosts and amazing food.

We were disappointed with out takeaway at the weekend. My chicken bhuna appeared to have 2 types of chicken in it - one plain and one with a coating of some sort. Both types were very dry. My son was equally disappointed wit his Korma - dry chicken and bland. Nan was good but overall underwhelmelming.

This is one of my favourite restaurants of any kind. Me and my mates have enjoyed regular Curry nights for a number of years now and we have been regular visitors to The Shish for some time now and we have never ever had cause for complaint. The staff and owners are ever so friendly and if you are unsure of a certain dish they will explain what is all in it, if you want it spicy or milder they will make the dish to suit your own taste. I must have visited here at least 20 times over the last couple of years and I have enjoyed every single visit and I'll probably be visiting just as regular over the next couple of years.

11 of us visited the Shish restaurant on the 18th of this month for a works night out. The staff couldn't have been any more helpful....... despite being bombarded with questions and lots of shouting.......... The food was outstanding as were the Lasi's (don't think they were even on the menu). nothing was too much trouble........

I was surprise to realise I had not done a review for the Shish as this is our favourite restaurant. We used to eat here just about every week when we lived in Gala but don't get there as often now we live further away but we have been in a couple of times recently and it is still as good as ever. The food is great, Aziz and family are great, the staff are great, possibly 20/30 years on from my first visit there and still going back , they have to be doing something right!!!

Me and my wife like to have an Indian meal regularly, and would recommend The Shish restaurant their food is without a doubt amazing!! we always have a great night when we visit and the staff are always very friendly. It's a family run business and they are always on hand to make your night as enjoyable as they can for you. not to be missed
