Made very welcome by Paul and Lou. Great old historic pub. Estralla on draft was spot on and the OH enjoyed the locally made Holy Island Gin. I had the whitebait to start and OH had parsnip and pear soup. Then we had steak and ale pie with fish and chips. All was delicious and very well presented. Fish was super fresh. Great work guys. Sorry I was only there for one night.

The Ship is a historic Inn with a varied menu of traditional British pub favourites rubbing shoulders with authentic Spanish dishes. We had whitebait, scallops, salmon croquettes and a seafood paella. The paella was full of prawns, mussels and squid and was beautifully prepared. The staff were friendly and very helpful adding to the great atmosphere. Dog friendly too - always a good thing. Highly recommended.

A warm welcome on New year's Eve from Andy, Lu and the staff. A lovely meal served in the dining room and bar.. excellent prompt service in a happy bustling atmosphere Our en suite room for 3nights was warm comfortable and spacious ; breakfast lived up to expectations, and lunches were perfect for an 'after walk snack" or something more substantial to see you through until dinner. A very busy evening on our last night meant that the dinner menu was somewhat curtailed, but there was still plenty of choice. It was just what we wanted for our New Year weekend, and the weather was excellent too.A great place to stay on the holy island of Lindisfarne

spent the day on holy island and found this pub. What a warm welcome as you walked in the door by the staff, who were friendly, professional and a good crack. The food was exceptional and great value for the quality and quantity provided and perfect after our walk. The ale was well kept and an very good pint. We went back later to wait for the tide so we could get off the island and they were friendly and helpful whilst we had tea and waited.

Stopped in the Ship for 2 nights on the way back from Scotland. We were able to park outside the front door probably because it was out of season. Our room was comfortable with all the usual facilities you would expect in a pub. Guests could access the rooms via a separate entrance. The menu was wide ranging and included paella which you don't see in many pubs.We ate at the Ship on both nights and the food was excellent.Good beer choice as well with 3 real ales. This was an excellent base to explore the Island and it ticked all the boxes. Would certainly stay here again.Special mention to Bar Manager Paul who looked after us really well

Fortunately we had booked a table as we have dogs and needed a poodle friendly place. We were warned that as they are busy they hold tables only for 20 minutes so if we were going to be late to ring in. When we arrived, they were very busy, turning away people, or telling them there was a 40 minute wait for food. We were a bit worried as we didn't have a lot of time, but I think since we were served quickly, there may be a system to prioritise tables who booked over walk ins. However, as we had booked, we were served quickly and the one starter arrived within 10 minutes of ordering. We all had fish and chips as a main and it was very well cooked, good batter, fish not over cooked as often happens. Were too full to have a pudding but had coffee. It is very nice inside and has a big garden at the rear. The staff were very efficient and friendly, despite being very busy. Having read some of the negative reviews, i am a bit at a loss as our experience was of a pub which was doing its best to feed as many customers as possible but being honest about any delays. All the staff were friendly and helpful.

We had walked up to Lindisfarne Castle and we were walking back and saw this pub. We had seen reviews and had little hope we would get in - but as luck would have it - we were slightly later and most people had eaten and were just leaving. We ordered fish and chips. A Scottish couple just finishing their meal advised us to have the small portions - but I was 'starving' and we with another couple so the men had a large serving the girls had small.Well........it was huge. I struggled to finish it, just halving some batter. Without exaggeration, this was the best ever fish and chips I have ever had . We have been to a few speciality fish and chip shop, these were better by miles. It looks and feels like a family business. Friendly staff, courteous and efficient. For the quality of food, best value ever. If you get a chance.....go. If I was not 350 miles away it would be worth making another trip. Well done and thanks.

Booked ahead for lunch for two. As it turned out it wasn’t so busy that we wouldn’t have got a table. Met at the door on arrival and shown to our reserved table. Menu and drinks list arrived promptly along with an explanation of the specials board ( and an apology that there was no vegan gravy available today,)We ordered whitebait as a starter - perfectly cooked and the vinegrette dressing on the accompanying side salad was delicious.Haddock and chips - warned about portion size by the waiter so opted for a small portion - when it arrived it was still pretty substantial - we saw a large portion delivered to another table it looked more like a portion of whale! Our other main course was a burger which was well presented and cooked and with options for extras like a fried egg. Overall the food was freshly cooked by a chef who clearly cared about the food he was sending out.

I am not at all surprised to see some of the comments made by other reviewers about the dreadful attitude taken towards customers of this pub. This place appears to be run and staffed by people who should never be working in hospitality. Their aggressive and unapologetic responses to previous negative reviews only serve to bear this out.We arrived for lunch we had about 1 hour and 10 minutes to eat in, due to the tidal nature of the causeway. We were told, in a brusque manner verging on rudeness, that there was no room in the interior and showed to a depressing and over-crowded patch of garden at the back, overlooked by houses. As we didn't have time to turn around and go elsewhere, we ordered drinks and perused the menu. Upon going to the bar, we waited for a very long time to be served, without even the courtesy of an acknowledgement from the staff. We were then told that half of the items we wanted were off and that there would be at least a 40 minute wait. Having taken so long to get to this point, that would be cutting it too fine for us. Upon enquiring whether we could opt for a sandwich instead, we were told they had finished serving sandwiches five minutes earlier. We drank our drinks and left. The drinks were the most expensive we encountered on this trip. The owners of this pub can, if they wish, berate the customers for not reading the menu or failing to appreciate the problems faced by a busy pub. Likewise, they're perfectly within their rights to impose their rules with po-faced rigidity, arbitrarily limit times when a particular meal can be eaten, charge whatever they like and greet people with begrudging scowls. However, they should remember that customers also have the right to decide which pubs they do or do not frequent and to make recommendations to others. Most of us prefer establishments with staff and management who take pains to provide a pleasant experience to their customers - who are pro-active, polite and helpful. Thankfully, there are many such pubs around and I would urge anyone to pass by The Ship and find one of them.

Upon arrival I was asked by someone at the front door if I was buying drinks, to which I replied yes and that we were looking for a table to have lunch also. The employee/owner then changed his tone and told us “we’ve just had 70 people come in here and ask for food and I won’t do it, you can have drinks and that’s it!”Great! We’ve just spent 1 hr on a boat to visit the island and at 12:20 in the afternoon your telling me you’re refusing to serve me food in a building which proudly advertises food being sold? When the waiter came, we were then told there was a 90 minute wait for food. Having told the waiter this was unacceptable, and we'd have a drink only, our drinks arrived, shortly followed by the manager to berate us as to why we were unhappy to wait 90 minutes. I understand its the middle of summer, but if the kitchen can't cope with being busy, reservations shouldn't be taken.Poor, very poor

We were told the food would take around 40 minutes as they were busy but it actually appeared in around 20 minutes. The landlord was a little grumpy but I think that was down to customers trying to order things not on the menu, not being organised, discussing food allergies, etc.The only thing that let the place down was the weeds growing in the beer garden borders. The landlord is clearly not a gardener but could easily improve things by paying a local to spend a few hours tidying things.

As good an evening meal as I’ve had anywhere in the north east. I’m guessing the chef was Spanish from the influence on the menu. Everything was cooked perfectly and with great flavour. Scallops were spot on (and I’m fussy about them not being over cooked) steak was perfect and juicy, came with an proper peppercorn sauce, not just a cream sauce with some peppercorns thrown in. Catch of the day was sea bass, and again this was cooked to perfection, only wish I’d had a smaller lunch so I could of tried a dessert. Can’t wait to go back. A number of walk ins were surprised to find both sittings fully booked so plan ahead as this was while tide was in and the island is normally quieter too.

Although Laura was unable ( because of the pandemic) to service the room she was really helpful and did all she was allowed to do.It was lovely to sit in the pleasant beer garden drinking Holy Island gin ( distilled on site) and see how busy Andy ( distiller) has become - not surprising as the gin is amazing!Siobhan worked in the bar and restaurant and had a lovely way with her. Last but not least there is Paul who looked after us ( and the bar) so well and efficiently. What more can you want, excellent, friendly staff, good food, accommodation- totally recommend The Ship .

Menu extensive and food very good. Cosy atmosphere, a very pleasant place for dinner and drinks on the island. I think they also distill holy island gin here - interesting until in the garden.

Nice place to stop for lunch. We opted for the inside tables and our "Proper fish finger sandwiches" were very tasty. The landlord was a funny bloke, even told someone to get their dog under control and stop yapping and barking. I totally agreed with him.

The food and service was quite disappointing. The 'Beyond burger' was actually just a bean burger for £14 which is a disappointing vegetarian option. Basically just average pub food and slightly overpriced.

I've called in several times this week to have drinks and a meal. A warm welcome, excellent service whilst coping with huge amounts of people, some of which are very demanding and seem to have forgotten that we're all enduring a pandemic. I have patiently waited on each occasion and received a delicious salmon dinner and drinks. I met friends for my birthday whereupon I was presented with the menu and was asked to choose a dessert; my choice arrived, with a candle, and a rendition of "Happy Birthday to You . . . !". My patience and understanding has been rewarded, so I will continue my visits and recommend like minded people to do the same.

We went in here for lunch on a busy sunny bank holiday day. We were met and told that there would be a bit of a wait, which was fine. When the young waiter took our order he was obviously frustrated and wanted us to hurry up while ordering but he finally crossed the line when he pulled his mask down to shout at us in what could be taken in an aggressive manner “Just say five sandwiches if that’s what you want!”. When we explained we want different sandwiches ie, fish finger, crab etc, he was obviously not impressed. After the order was taken we waited a further 40-45mins before catching a waitress’s eyes. When asked how our 4 sandwiches were progressing having watched a table who arrived at the same time as us finish their food, she went away to find out and returned to say it would be at least another 15mins which we decided we couldn’t wait, so left after she said we had been told it would be an hours wait when we arrived which we did not, and the reply I received was well you should have……… If we would have been told it was an hours wait we would have not gone in as we didn’t have time. The toilet bins were over-flowing, one flush wasn’t working which we reported to the bar staff who obviously had a cold chin as he had decided to wear his mask on that instead of his mouth and nose!! Yes it was a busy bank holiday weekend and the sun was out therefore everywhere was busy however the weather was forecast, it was always going to be a bank holiday so this should have been planned for. The problem was the staff lacked customer service and Coronavirus protocols. Would I visit again? No probably not.

Family day out to Holy Island, decided to go to Ship Inn for Lunch, menu looked good. It was super busy but that was to be expected with the lovely weather etc. When arrived told 30-35 mins wait for food which we thought was ok. 45mins later still no food waitress noticed we hadn’t had our food yet. Which we thought was good she noticed and we didn’t have to say. Food arrived 10mins later, husbands meal was missing mines and mines was incorrect. Was told another 10 mins to wait for husbands and I was told that I should have expected mine to come thick with butter because it’s standard but it wasn’t mentioned on their menu or I would have asked for it without butter. Lady was rude and kept saying they trying their best which I don’t doubt but to wait over an hour with no apology and orders wrong is terrible. No customer service skills what’s so ever. I asked if I could just pay for our drinks so we could leave she still continued to keep at me. When I approached the bar to pay she abruptly told me cost then walked away and left me with Barman who said nothing and just held up card reader. I could see in the behaviour and mannerism they were angry with us. Which is disappointing as we were polite and if they had got the order right we would have had our lunch and left and put the wait time down to an experience of the place. Wouldn’t recommend or go back.

My first impression was excellent, the host Lou, was very friendly and welcoming, on entery to the pub I noted that the decor was a charming nautical theme, knots and all, with some cheeky pirates staring out of the window, along with a cosy dining area and lovely bar leading to a large rear garden, which would be ideal on a hot sunny day.Chatting with the barman, it was obvious the pub was popular, fending of quest who hadn't made a booking, he was busily pulling pints and making cocktails, one of my favourites a Pina Cõlada. It's a dog friendly pub which was brilliant to see as many different types wondered through the doors, encouraged by water bowls and dog treats kept by a log burner. We had a snack before checking in, some Chicken Tenders with garlic sauce, whitebait with tartare sauce and some large yummy onion rings, I recommend the food highly after eating an evening meal of Fish and Seafood stew, while my partner had an open Steak Pie and chips, breakfast the first meal of the day, we opted for just toast and coffee, however a full english is available with the price of the room, smelt lovely when cooking, there are vegetarian options, fruit, cereal and crossiants. 10/10 to the chef. Finally, our room! Thankfully it was available to us, the idea behind the night stay was a gift for my partner's birthday and to see some of Holy Island, due to tide times I thought it best to stay on the island. For me it was perfect, bed, toilet, shower, TV, it's was lovely, I would recommend this room, not seeing the others it was just what the birthday girl needed.

Had a couple of meals here over the past week. First meal was in the bar, the 2nd in the restaurant... and quite honestly I couldn't tell a difference between the rooms. The restaurant was literally an extension of the bar.Seafood Basket, nice... but a little dry. Would have been nice to have more of the dressed salad.King Prawns and Tagliatelle... creamy, prawns were huge. Nice meal.Sticky Toffee Pudding... disappointing. It wasn't the best. Served tepid warm with ice cream. Really wouldn't have been difficult to warm it and serve it with custard. Which would have been sooooo much nicer. Then, one of our party ordered a glass of pinot grigio. When the lady brought the glass to the table, she referred to it as Sauvignon. Saying that we'd ordered pinot, she disappeared with the glass. Came back with another. Said it had been changed. We then ordered another glass of pinot... the drinks were different, so it hadn't been changed at all. Obviously thought we wouldn't notice.Four meals, four dessert, six drinks. £122.

Lunch at The Ship Inn was our first indoor eating since restrictions lifted. They were busy and we had our two large dogs with us. The weather was lovely, so the beer garden was full but they quickly found us a table in the bar area and were very accommodating. The service was quick - despite the constant flow of people - and the food was good (we had the chicken burger special and scampi and chips). Would recommend if you are visiting this lovely part of the world

For our last night on Lindisfarne and 3rd! dinner at the Ship Inn we ordered seafood paella and asked for it to be cooked with a crisp socarrat. Plump prawns, tender squid , firm white fish and the caramelised crip bottom layer of rice made this a delicious paella. Good wines and selection of beers complemented by amicable yet Covid safe service made this the go to pub restaurant on the island. On other nights we enjoyed wonderful whitebait and seafood baskets and sinfully sweet lemon meringue with a v drinkable Italian Pinot Grigio.Go here, booking advisable.

Cracking few days at the Ship. Called in last year around lunchtime and promised ourselves we'd return.Booked over telephone, turned up and parked the car. Great welcome from Paul and shown our room. Simple, clean and very comfortable king size bed.All the usual, TV, wifi...Great base for exploring Holy Island. The castle is at the end of the road although nothing is really that far away.Stayed two nights and had an evening meal both times. Real English breakfast too.The food is quite superb, probably why the pub was quite busy that lunchtime last Summer.Menu is varied and the lower dining room ideal and atmospheric. The food was served quickly even though all the tables were fully booked. Some local paintings for sale on the walls.Holy Island gin (another recommendation), is made on the premises and you can see the copper still in the building from the large beer garden. We were treated to a large owl flying through the trees as there is an area of nesting boxes just below the premises.Odd times with this lockdown, but all in place.Check on the tide times for safe crossing of the causeway as it may determine the days and times you wish to stay. It's useful to have a copy of the crossing times for the tidal road to hand, downloadable from Northumberland Council website. We'll definitely return again before too long and many thanks to Paul and Andy for an excellent stay.Cheers!

We popped across from the mainland for dinner, driving across the causeway in the dark was a great start to the evening, and The Ship topped it off. We visited with our 2 dogs and 9 year olds son. The food was great, I'm a vegetarian, and had the halloumi salad with pesto and chips...mmmm! My son had the small fish and chips...but when he saw Dad's steak he swapped...but Dad enjoyed the fish and chips so all was well! Will daintily be back!

Importantly at the moment, this feels a very safe place to be, all procedures are in place to ensure customers safety. The welcome was very friendly and throughout the evening every effort was made to attend to us and give us information regarding the island, staying on the island and island life. The food was delicious, we had the steak pie, huge pieces of steak and the confit of duck leg with an orange sauce this was exquisite, followed by sticky toffee pudding and the homemade rum and raisin ice cream, scrumptious. The island bitter, gin and Lindisfarne cream were also well worth trying. The whole meal was incredibly good value and we will most definitely be returning.

Great coffee and Lemon and Poppy Seed Muffin Zara served me again and it was a yummy Almond milk latte, extra shot in my own mug. On Zara's recommendations I treated myself to a Poppy Seed Muffin. Zara was happy and couldn't do enough to make my coffee exactly how I liked it. Starbucks was very busy due to the Armistice day memorial in Hexham, but still quality was not effected.
