The Sharnford Arms in Blaby

Ordered via just eat app, firstly nearly 45 minutes late. When food came the beef chow mien looked very different to anywhere else, my partner tasted it and was shocked to find out that it tasted like human urine. Then between 6 of us, all agreed that it tastes and smelt like human urine. Me as a heavily pregnant women is very concerned now for not only my health but my unborn child’s. We have reported this to Leicestershire country council. Do not eat here!

Booked a table for a late birthday meal, never been hear before.Pub somewhat grotty and not the cleanest I have been to.Menu's sticky and grubby, cutlery had finger prints on them, dinner plates all odd ones, ( how bizarre ) also with finger prints.Food was cheaper than our local takeaway and our host was pleasant enough. Quantity of food was very good but quality of food was not the best.Sizzling dish did not sizzle and food more tepid than warm, so yes very disappointed and to finish off a dog urinated on the floor next to our table. WHOOPS.I

Food awful, all processed made us feel sick, the pub is filthy needs cleaning, also the waiters trousers should be pulled up it wasn’t very pleasant.

I disagree with some of the reviews on here.We order regularly from this Chinese restaurant both for takeaway & to eat in the restaurant, the food is always perfect, hot & super tasty. It is genuinely the best Chinese we have had in Leicester area. Our favourites include salt & chilli chicken wings, salt & chilli chips, singapore fried rice, crispy chilli beef to name just a few. Everything we have tried on the menu has been great & perfectly seasoned.The pub is a proper pub, which you don't see many of these days. It is so cosy & the staff are super friendly. There is always a large open log fire burning when it is chilly. It is a dog friendly pub which is great.I cant wait until we visit again soon!! Thanks Sharnford Arms! 10/10

Ordered a take away tonight at 17:00 to be delivered at 18:00 arrived at 18:30. Arrived COLD , £30 to go straight in the bin.

Awful food, made me feel sick and tummy pains the following day, avoid at all costs! I went here along time ago to the restaurant and it was lovely, I don’t know what’s happened.

We had not tried this Chinese takeaway before & we were hopefull. It came 1 hour & 15 minutes after the delivery time because someone has written the wrong house number down when ordering. So when it did come, it was not hot. The quality of the food was very poor. The chow mien was a sloppy mess on the plate with no flavour& the spring roles were burnt. This is one takeaway crossed off our list.

First drink in pub since lockdown 3 of us went bank holiday Monday night very relaxing with plenty of space inside and out for sitting a good selection of beers and wine We took a Chinese takeaway home absolutely beautiful tasty and lots of it Will be back soon lots of hand cleaning available and signs around the pub so all good

Called in Friday the 21st August, not Friday 13th! Ordered 3 takeaway meals and had a couple of drinks whilst waiting for it to cook. The chicken didn't even see the pan by the looks of it. The beef was no better, really fatty and not cooked. Pork just about edible. This was a try out with a view to eating in next weekend, needless to say we won't be booking that table now. The pub is okay for drinks, food best avoided.

Absolutely beautiful Chinese with delivery service can’t fault nothing a small charge for delivery £2 but good food good portions hot and on time perfect

Stopped for Sunday breakfast (from 9am).Super friendly staff. Extremely dog friendly. Full sized full english breakfast, all cooked perfectly and all good ingredients. Plenty of comfy seating. Close to Fosse Meadows so perfect after a Sunday dog walk.Highly recommended for breakfast. Will be going back for Sunday lunch (roast) and also Chinese food one evening.

We went today for a Sunday lunch with our auntie and uncle and our 2 dogs and had a starter each and a roast each, well it was amazing!! Prawn cocktail x 2, pate and a soup for starters, was so good then we had a mixture of pork and beef roasts! The meat just melted in your mouth, whilst our 2 pooches got treated to the best meat in the house whilst sat under the table! Couldn’t recommend this place more for drinks, food and especially for dogs! Steve is the best Lanlord we know.

Enjoyed a great freshly cooked breakfast at the Sunflower Silkie Cafe & Restaurant. We sat by the open log fire, lovely atmosphere. Staff couldn't do enough for you. Will definitely be back for breakfast and will try their Sunday lunch too.

On a dog walk this morning, we came across The Sharnford Arms, on entering we were warmly greeted with 3 dogs in tow. Made to feel very welcome, had an excellent breakfast. Doggies certainly didn’t miss out being given lots of goodies. Will certainly return.

We have driven past this place many times on the way to Stony Cove, but upon meeting the owner a few months back, he said to try his place for a roast dinner. So we did and have been a few times now. We just can't get over how good the food is for the price. It's all very well cooked, great produce and HOT. A lot of things many places don't seem to get right. Also, the veg comes separately, a huge put of gravy arrives and they serve cauliflower cheese for no added amount! Another things that restaurants seem to do nowadays. The meat is only Beef or Turkey for the roast but it's beautiful. We eat out a lot but this is our new favourite place to eat. It's a 40 minute journey for us but worth it. It's only £9.95 and you get so much food.We love the pub too. It's so quirky which we love and owner is a really lovely guy with a beautiful dog.There's not many pubs like this left. Our friends had fish and chips and they thoroughly enjoyed their dinner too. We'll be back lots more in the future. Don't change!

Popped over for sunday lunch as we were stopping at stanton lakes near by we met the owner there at a previous party and so glad we met him and visited,The pub itself has a unique querky style which i love ,the owner is super dog friendly and gave our dog a treat of cooked meat from the kitchen which was nice .Now ive been out a lot and for £9.95 this has to be 1 of the best roasts ever plenty of meat from his farm roasts ,mash potato, yorkshire pudding separate veg and cauliflower cheese with a large jug of gravy well worth more than priced will definitely come back and eat again next time we stay over highly recommend

Spent a happy couple of hours at Fosse Meadow with our friends and our dogs. Called in and found an ultra dog friendly place, with lovely bar staff , excellent landlord who welcomed the dogs with treats. We enjoyed a superb Sunday lunch, and drinks from a well stocked bar. Hopefully, not too long before we will be going back !

Lovely tasty roast pork lunch with plenty of real veg. Two course lunch great value. Helpful staff and nice and clean. Will return.

We came here as a family of 6 recommended by a friend. And I’m so glad we did, we were warmly welcomed soon as we walked in. The whole atmosphere was superb. We all had a variety of food and each one of us were extremely impressed.

Today we took mum & our flatcoat retriever Suki for a walk through Fosse Meadows. Our table was booked for 1 o clock... a perfect plan for Mother’s Day, the sun was shining & birds singing. The pathway we followed from the woodland to Sharnford we have passed numerous times & never took comes out just in front of the pub & we arrived just as the Jazz band were setting up. Lunch was lovely, but the nicest thing was the warm that everyone gives you. Suki especially liked it and positively ran up the steps to get in (I think the roast beef & cheese she was given on our previous visits may have influenced her slightly!) Free Prosecco for me & mum ... then complementary coffee while we listened to the group. Fabulous... nothing nicer than going to a pub where you feel truly welcome

As a group of 40 we visited last night, Everything was perfect! 25 people decided to eat, food and service was great! We could not fault the place!! We were all throughly looked after and made to feel very welcome! Thankyou to all x

Rushed service, meal seemed microwaved and not freshly cooked, food had vinegary twang to it,way more vegetables in dish than meat.

Our first visit was a delight. Wonderful Chinese food. A variety of dishes shared by five of us, a vegetarian guest included. Loved the freshly laundered napkins too and the excellent service. We will certainly return and have recommended The Sharnford Arms to friends.

Popped in after a doggy walk, for a chill and a cheeky drink, we were greeted with a very warm welcome, all the staff were friendly and the land lord clearly loves dogs and stopped for a cuddle

Visited today after a long walk with our dogs, wasn’t sure at 1st if they allowed furry friends in, what a welcome we got from the lovely landlord bar staff and regulars, big roaring fire, comfy seats and a complimentary bowl of cheesy chips, loved the place, thank you be definitely visiting again next time we are in the area, number one for pooches

Our 14.5 yr old Lurcher and 9 year old Jack Russell had the warmest welcome! They were presented with dog treats and meat fresh from the kitchen. This is the most dog friendly place we've ever been to.

Always found the food to be good here. However, I've recently seen that in October 2018 the restaurant scored 0 in it's environmental health inspection! It would appear that it has yet to be reinspected, so I would probably avoid until their rating improves considerably.

Had spent a week trying to find a Chinese restaurant where I could celebrate my birthday with my family, 8 of us. Ones in Leicester were too Chinese and somewhat austere in their surroundings. Then one of my daughters suggested the Sharnford Arms. I had not tried here before but booked it as it couldn't be any worse than the ones I had been considering. Well it turned out to be a great success. The food and service were both first class and to top it all the publican presented us with a bottle of bubbly to help the celebrations. Had a great time and would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a very welcoming and friendly pub and/or Chinese restaurant.

We visited based on recommendation and have to say I’m glad we did. The Chinese food is the best I have experienced. In fact all of our party of 10 enjoyed their meals and said they won’t hesitate to return. Great attentive service and didn’t wait long for food to arrive (served quickly at bar also)&. I was expecting a delay due to our party size, but it was all served quickly. Lovely cosy pub with very warm atmosphere. Excellent range of beers.

Very cosy, friendly pub. The landlord was very welcoming and brought treats to our dog and picked him up and cuddled him, which was so sweet. The pub part felt like pubs should feel, folks chatting, cosy fire and friendly bar staff. The Chinese food was fine, nothing amazing.

Amazing place to visit, the pub is charming, warm, friendly and if you get a chance to meet the owner he will make you feel right at home. The food is fantastic and the pooches...well they melt your heart.

We have been to The Sharnford Arms on several occasions. It is a vibrant village pub, in my opinion how a village pub should be. Always busy. Always made welcome. The Chinese food has always been excellent, but I would recommend people booking Thursday to Saturday.

A good selection of beers. Friendly staff A Centre piece open log burner keeps the place toasty warm .There are no gaming machines /pool table/juke box .People actually talk to each other ! Dog friendly place

Rang up from the motorway on a Saturday night for a table for 2 as we'd been recommended. Despite being fully booked the lovely lady I spoke squeezed us in between tables, and we were so glad she did!

We booked a table for 2 for a Sat night and took our little pup with is too. Chinese meal was fab and very reasonably priced. The whole place was so welcoming and had a great vibe about it. We went to the bar area for a drink after dinner and spoke with some of the locals who told us about doggy Sunday's on the 1st Sunday of every month. We will definitely be stopping by next week for some pawsecco! Highly recommended.

This pub has a Chinese restaurant which is excellent but if you want a takeaway go here just turn up enjoy a drink at the bar a unbelievable choice of wine and beer excellent prices the order a takeaway every time I have had one they are superb tasty and excellent prices no better place to go you are also most welcome to take your dog too

Parece un poco extraño estar comiendo comida china en un antiguo pub del pueblo que está lleno de clientes habituales/lugareños. Sin embargo, la comida es muy buena, recién preparada y barato.

Estuve con un grupo grande de amigos y el servicio era genial. Comida llegaba al ritmo adecuado. Fuimos por el menú fijo que es buena relación calidad-precio. Este es sin duda la mejor comida china en la zona y posiblemente más allá. Altamente recomendado. El pub está bien, evitar si no quieres perros. . . . es un perro simpático! pub

First visit at this pub despite going past everyday! What a gem of a place! Made to feel very welcome by the staff and regulars. Really nice setting and it was obvious that the owners really care about their customers. The complimentary sandwiches and pork pie were very tasty and unexpected. I understand this is served on most days as part of the service. I will most definetely be back(not just because of the free sandwiches) but because as a customer I felt welcome and valued. I felt like I would go out of my way to go there. If the Sharnford Arms isn't in The Good Pub Guide, it should be!

Went here Saturday night and had Chinese food which was nice if a bit over priced. It is a lovely cosy pub with a real fire. Bar staff were friendly as was the guy running the eating side of things. I wouldnt say it was better food than our local takeaway but it was a really nice change to go out for Chinese in the local area.

Since visiting this pub around 3 months ago I have barely drank anywhere else! This is the first pub I can walk into comfortable in my own skin and relaxed. It's not just the staff that are friends but the locals are always up for a chat. It's not often you can walk into somewhere and feel part of a bit family have a drink and walk out with a tasty Chinese at the end of it. The food has always been brilliant and more often than not the dogs that I take it would rather stay with their feet up at the bar rather than come home with me :). Every month we go to their 'doggy sunday' which is a brilliant family day out where we get some tasty chips and the dogs get treated like royalty. Best in the buisness!

Went on Saturday night we had the set menus, we asked if we could change a dish on the set menu and it wasn't a problem we found the service was very good plenty of food although I didn't care much for one of the dishes but that may just have been me. Parking was difficult due to a large camper van, but all in very good

This is a pub like no other. Crazy themed NYE party with a construction of a pier and ferris wheel and a shark in the roof!Firstly it is a village pub with great beer, leather armchairs and a roaring fire. Dogs are most welcome - the pub dog has his own sofa in the entrance hall. Very kid friendly too. In fact just plain friendly.Secondly it has a chinese restaurant inside the pub. Whilst you wait for your take out you can have a sneaky ale. This is good value - huge white van man style portions and a set meal if you want.Thirdly, Hollywood toilets - both men and women.

Just popped in on the off chance of seeing Steve Smith. I'm happy to say he was there absolutely great atmosphere in the pub and the food well I wished I lived a lot closer because I would be in there all the time. Well done Steve and all the team.

My first visit to the pub was on 31st December 2016. Absolutely lovely welcome and it was so much fun. This pub goes beyond all others to bring in the new year. What a treat. Loved it.

What a wonderful friendly pub. We visited Sharnford to have a lovely new years Eve with great friends. A couple of pints in the pub were called for and what a pub. The theme for the night was Sharnford on Sea. A wooden pier had been built outside along with a wooden ferris wheel. The inside had been transformed to represent the seaside. Everyone was so welcoming. The highlight was the fireworks display to see in the new year, absolutely breathtaking. Anyone who has the opportunity to visit the Sharnford Arms should do so, you will not be disappointed.

Hadn't been for a few months but what a lovely surprise the food was even better than our last visit. Great service and lovely warm atmosphere. Will definitely be returning again in the near future

Absolutely brilliant in my opinion, friendly welcoming bar staff and the best Chinese in Leicestershire.I have been visiting for years and you always feel remembered and valued, especially by the Chinese restaurant staff. My recommendations from the menu:-The Salt & Chilli ribs (Sensational)- Sweet & sour chicken Hong Kong style- Beef in black beanIt's a nice relaxing atmosphere and always an enjoyable night.Also the dog that wanders around the pub is impeccably well behaved and never any bother, adds the charm of the place.

I came here for a drink and a Chinese meal on Saturday with two friends (who had been before, but I hadn't). I like the old style of this pub which has a really cosy atmosphere. The staff were all very nice and welcoming and overall I just felt the establishment had good vibes.Ate our meal at 8.15pm and had the only free table as was very busy. Food came quickly and very hot. I chose shrimp chow mein and seaweed which were equally lovely. The only comment I had is that our waitress (who I think was quite young), took ages to write down our orders and every time we said a dish she looked confused and had to read the menu herself to see what it was. I think maybe she was new and once she gets used to the menu she will be okay. Otherwise I would definitely come here again both for the food and drink.

We had heard about the good chinese food at The Sharnford Arms and decided to go find out for ourselves. We arrived at about 18:15 on Friday 30th and the bar was buzzing with a lively and friendly atmosphere. The bar staff were attentive and efficient and the landlord made us feel very welcome. There were about 5-6 dogs in the bar and they were made to feel as welcome as the humans which is refreshing to see. An excellent first impression and we will return - unfortunately we are dogless at present but it is refreshing to find a lovely pub with such a positive attitude were nothing seemed too much trouble,

We ate here but we were very disappointed . Ordered spicy fish dish and 2 special curries but the food was terrible. Very gloopy and tasteless and very large portions. We looked like we hadn't started when we had finished. Really not good Chinese despite lots of good reviews. Pub didn't seem very friendly or welcoming or clean. We will not be returning, sorry

This is a great family pub with a built in Chinese restaurant. Great beers and occasionally music on. We dropped in on a first Monday of the month to a really good open mike session.

Advantages are that you are paying pub prices for drinks while dining in a Chinese restaurant.The food is generally good but you can tell some of the ingredients are a bit cheap (beef can be tasteless and heavily velveted). But for the price it is good value - the set menus particularly so.Family really like the mixed starter platter with chicken satay. Crispy duck is also good.

Although pass this place most days, on the spur of the moment popped in for dinner as we did not fancy driving into Leicester.My wife and I had a set meal (H2) and my son and his girlfriend picked from the extensive menu.The food was excellent and there was nothing we did not like and the hot and spicy soup was the best we have tasted.Portion size was good infact too much as we could not finish it all.Friendly pub atmosphere and will certainly go back.

We have used many Chinese Restaurants in the area for both sit in and take away. The Sharnford Arms is now by far and away the best food around. We would not actually choose to eat in the pub/restaurant as it is a bit gloomy inside, although the beer and service is good. The take away food however is superb. We drive past several Chinese Restaurants to get it and it is worth it. Telephone an order and it is ready in15-20 minutes, just time to drive over

Just visited these premises for a meal for two. The premises are reasonable, customer service average, but 10/10 for a nice warm pub/restaurant with open fire. However, when I witnessed the waiter drop cutlery on the floor, simply pick it up and return it to the cutlery drawer for the next customer to use, its a clear message that hygiene is not top of the agenda and we will not be returning.

Used to love the food and the atmosphere at the pub and the Chinese restaurant but since there has been a new manger within the Chinese it is terrible! I don't recommend going there! We defiantly won't be going again that's for sure!!

My old school pal who lives in this area booked a Chinese meal here. We lost touch 52 years ago and met up here. What a fabulous old fashioned pub/restaurant we had advice to try the meal for 4. Great advice and well worth the 130 miles just to eat. Our Schnauzer enjoyed meeting the other dogs there. With all the regulars and locals making it a pleasant night. You feel as if you have been a regular for years.We all had a really good night and sat near a fabulous open wood fire. The owner made a fuss of us and picked our Schnauzer up for a cuddle. So,if you don't like dogs or a friendly atmosphere, go somewhere else. But if you do you will miss a good Chinese.This Pub is well worth a visit, a splendid night as it used to be 30 years ago everywhere.

Took a party of eight for a Chinese meal here to celebratea birthday. Been here many times and yet again found the food to be spot on. The pub itself has a good atmosphere and always appears busy. The only problem is you cannot order drinks at the table and have to go to the bar areas which is a struggle in itself because of numerous people sitting on stools at the bars who don't like the idea of moving to let you get a drink. Only a minor issue and won't deters another visit.

Been a frequent Sunday lunchtime user for the last year or so. Very dog friendly which is important to me. Good range of moderately priced drinks. Extremely friendly and attentive bar staff. Good landlord. Friendly customers. Cosy fire in winter. Occasional live music which is of a good standard.

This was recommended to us and we would pass on that recommendation. The pub has a great feel to it. We sat looking out over the fish pond and enjoyed watching the fish while we waited. Great choice of dishes and good value for money. Everything was piping hot and very tasty. Many Chinese restaurants seem to skimp on the sauces but not this one. We had the crispy duck with lashings of hoi sin sauce.Definitely great value and we will be going back.

On entering the pub on a saturday lunch for the first time i was made to feel welcome. Becky the manageress pulled an excellent pint of beer with a very good price a pint of the black stuff £2.95 the locals very chatty and a good selection of friendly dog's. This is how pub's used to be and nice to find one that carry's the tradition on. "Sibbo" the resident comedian kept us amused with tale's of this that and the other. All in all a good afternoon whilst not eating i was assured the food was 100% and will be trying it on my next visit.

A five star pub and restaurant cannot sing its praises high enough the staff are so friendly and the Abbott Ale is exceptional I come over from Coventry every week to visit and cannot say I have had a bad pint or meal in all the years I have been coming hereCarry on the good work Becky

Used to be a regular in this pub but since visiting other pubs in the area they are so much bettter with food, drink and overall standards. The outdoor areas are scruffy, sometimes there are more dogs than people, the chinese food is okay but had better - I could go on but will leave it at that!

We are not from the area but always look forward to having drinks and dinner at the Sharnford Arms. Though clearly not local we always find ourselves in conversations with the locals and everybody is friendly and welcoming. Good selection of beers and Ales and the food is very good. All in all it's the sort of place you go for 1 and end up being surprised that they are about to call last orders.Dog friendly as well.

I have always rated the restaurant as being one of the best Chinese in the area but after this experience we shall not be returning. My wife ordered 'shell on king prawns' as a starter which we have had many times before.When they arrived we were served king prawn cantonese instead and we pointed out the mistake. The waiter then insisted that he was right and that she had ordered incorrectly. It was only when I intervened and told the waiter that it was his mistake that he agreed to take the dish back and replace it. When the replacement dish arrived it was obvious that the prawns from the original dish had been re used resulting in them being overcooked and inedible. The remainder of the meal fell far short of their usual standard and as I don't appreciate being taken for a fool we will not be returning.On a totally unrelated topic the pub seems to be deservedly popular, but what has happened to the central focal point, the fish pond. Whilst the water looks clean and the fish appear to be in good condition the surrounding area is an absolute eyesore with no attempt being made to clean it up.

Lived in the area a few years now, recently started using the sharnford arms as my "local". It's by far the best pub around. With the friendliest welcoming staff, a great bar manager and great Chinese food. Highly recommended for family or friends.

If you want to waste your money and evening out then visit this pub.Bar staff were rude and unhelpful,service at the table was even worse and the food was terrible.The worst food i have ever eaten!!!!! DO NOT GO

Very quirky lovely country pub :) love the bottled ceiling above the bar and the furniture around the bar. Didn't eat this time but have seen the menu which is a Chinese menu which is a brilliant twist. Can't wait to go again :)

This is my local pub, I frequantly have a take away and the occasional meal. Good basic well prepared food, reasonably priced and the pub has a great atmosphere. A warming log fire at this time of year. The takeaway service is also excellant and if I ring through an order I rarely have to wait more than 10 minutes. The pub part is good as well, lucky to have such a good pub within walking distance.

My daughter wanted to go to a chinese for her birthday, so we went to the Sharnford Arms. It was for my wife and I our first visit to a chinese restaurant. We were greetd warmly and seated quickly. We were give prawn crackers and pickles before we ordered. When we ordered and got our food it was great, the menu was very good and plenty of choice. Our party was for 5 and we all enyoyed the food each of us having different dishes. A good quailty restaurant offering a good value and good quality food. The pub also serve real beers and offer a good choice, all in all a good experience and we will be back.

As much as I like the pub the food itself is somewhat disappointing. I've eaten from here a few times as a sit in and as a takeaway. When you sit in the service is generally poor. If the went any slower and showed any less interest you'd be wanting to do it all yourself. But the food is generally OK. Nothing special to write home about. As a takeaway I've woken up the next day ill. So there is a difference even between the eat in and eat out food. Completely unexplainable. One way or another you'll be disappointed
