First class indian meal, food excellent, staff great and good value for money nice atmosphere and easy online booking

No other restaurant can compete with The Shaan for quality. Quality is so much more important than quantity, yet The Shaan does both! Superb meats flash cooked sensitively in the tandoor oven; long gently cooked meats such as the biryanis, and divine, succulent, the freshest of vegetables in every side, or veggie dish. Today, I chose my favourite starter . . . . Chicken Achanak. A red pepper stuffed with spicy chicken on fresh salad. . . . Honestly . . . a meal in itself ! I then had a mindboggling choice of dishes for main course, all differently spiced, or spiced up or down to my taste, together with about 6 choices of rice, or naans, and kulfi or coffee (good coffee!) to finish. The Shaan call this their Sunday Banquet. As I've said . . . Don't miss it ! Kind attentive staff, top quality food. Thank you Shaan. I wholeheartedly recommend to everyone x

The food is always exceptional here, and the waiting staff look after you in such a friendly way. It's always a relaxing experience, and by far the best place for a curry in Oxfordshire.They have clear partitions up between tables, so you feel very safe and able to socially distance from other tables. I highly recommend this restaurant!

Four of us ate here for the Sunday evening banquet and were surprised to find it quieter than usual. We shared 2 lots of mixed starter (Thali) a really good delicious mix. For mains we had a dish each but did not order all the rice, naan or side dishes to which we were entitled and still had more than enough food. All the mains were top quality, well presented, very tasty and generous in size. The peshwari nan was crispy , hot and straight out of the oven. Service was very good and the waiters so friendly and cheerful. A very pleasant experience and the Sunday special price an absolute bargain. We have been before and we will be back again.

I like to think I know a bit about Indian food, but this restaurant exceeded our expectations.It's always a gamble visiting a restaurant for the first time on a "staycation", but we followed most of the positive reviews and weren't disappointed.The service was first class, very personable without being intrusive, and they were able to maintain this AND adhere to Covid guidelines.The Chicken Rezala isn't a dish I wasn't familiar with, but delighted to take the owner's advice & try it - excellent choice!Can thoroughly recommend this restaurant - we'll definitely visit again when we're next in the Cotswolds.

Came for dinner on Saturday night with my family and was hugely impressed. Fantastic service, fantastic food, all the right PPE and Screens, all tables well spaced. Hands down best Indian in witney! As you can see, I enjoyed the spread, even if my family were too cool to be in the photo too...

We came on a Sunday for the banquet. The standards were appalling. There was no social distancing anywhere, it felt like the owner was trying to cram loads of people in to make the most money possible. Service was very slow, waited over 1 hour for starters. Food came out cold and felt like it had been sat on the side for ages. Food items were forgotten even when the food came out. We was asked halfway through our meal to move a table which is unacceptable. Staff were working hard but were wiping their hands on dripping in sweat foreheads whilst handling the food. Such a shame as was looking forward to a good Indian meal.

Excellent meal with friends. Very friendly, polite and clean. Screens between tables for social distancing which is a big plus. Meal was gorgeous, staff couldn’t do enough for us. Will definitely be calling again on our next visit to Witney. Thank you so for a thoroughly enjoying evening and an excellent meal.

Visited on a Wednesday evening. The menu has a good selection. The food was great and the service from Omar was excellent.

Have visited over the last few years and am as impressed as ever with the excellent value and more importantly the impeccable customer service we always receive. Introduced two friends to the Sunday Banquet yesterday and we were all made to feel like royalty. You can select a 5 course meal from the extensive main menu and therefore have the opportunity to share and sample all the delicious dishes. Staff are always happy to box up any food left for you to take home for supper. Plus if there are 4 adults for a meal a free bottle of House Wine is also thrown in. How generous is that!! Under the new guidelines room changes have been set in place to ensure all guests are fully protected with socially distanced tables and screens with all staff wearing masks. This is the absolute best Indian we have ever been to and hope to show it off to many more friends and family in the future.

We have been to Shaan lots of times and came recently on the Sunday Banquet. We booked for 8pm slot but still not even had starter by 9.15, the restaurant was extremely busy probably a bit too overcrowded and at one point we were asked to move our tables a metre so they could fit someone in on another table. Personally find it a bit too loud in there. One family member found a piece of plastic in their onion bhaji we did report it and they did acknowledge this. The mains came out lukewarm not hot and we then seemed to wait for the naans and rice's and sides for a few more minutes. Personally won't return on a Sunday for the Banquet it has previously been excellent but after this experience will keep to weekdays only when quieter, the staff are polite and work very hard to please though. For the price it is excellent value but the quality goes down.

Have eaten here several times when travelling from Aberdeen to Oxford on business. There is a great selection of food and all the dishes I have tried so far have been authentic and tasty. What really sets Shaan apart though is the exceptional customer service. It really is the gold standard of what businesses should aim to achieve. I am always so impressed after each visit that they go the extra mile to ensure everything is to your satisfaction.

Very busy place and even then the staff were Extremely friendly with excellent service. Being of Indian origin and a previous owner of an Indian restaurant in the Canary Islands, I requested that my food was to be prepared exactly the way the Bengali Chef would cook as if they were eating at home.The main reason for the request is that generally restaurant food is prepared to suit the British pallet and I'm a great fan of traditional authentic Desi cuisine.

A lovely evening out with friends, double couples and great opportunity to meet with the relaxing of restrictions.The staff were very helpful and the food we ordered was totally delightful and delicious.Our friends had ordered the Benjal Pilau and we ordered the Benjal Bay and, Chicken Vindaloo.Plus, we had ordered side dishes and accompaniments.We like eating here and for us, a good relaxing setting in a more contemporary style of Indian restaurant.Definitely will be visiting again.

On a recent visit to this restaurant we had the Sunday banquet, the food and the service were exceptional. A special mention for Riz who was so friendly and provided great service. Overall a lovely meal and fantastic value.

Bitterly disappointed. Our food wasn't brilliant, one of the meals was almost inedible and the drinks were flat. A friend orderednlamb and it was so chewy, it couldn't be cut with a knife! The service was poor and our food was practically thrown at us. The hot hand towells were tossed at the table and there was no interaction with the waiter despite us trying to be polite. We complained and the manager was rude and unhelpful. He took the price of the lamb dish off the bill but first asked another customer if they'd had a problem with their food. I was horrified and shamed and will never return to this restaurant. The staff need customer service training and to learn that diplomacy and understanding go a very long way. What used to be a decent restaurant with good food has now turned into a place with arrogant staff and mediocre food. Shame on you Shaan!

Excellent food and service, very accommodating, asked for a larger table as I don’t like small ones and no issue at all, food was very good and the staff were excellent and very friendly, certainly had prepared the restaurant for the current PPE climate

The Sunday lunchtime banquet is such a great deal and one of the best reasons to visit the Shaan. But the quality of the food is also top notch. Great service and a relaxed atmosphere means you won't miss your Sunday roast.

Lovely curry as always. We had poppadoms, then a chicken tikka masala (always the best in Witney), a lamb sag, rice and peshwari naan. Service was great, and Covid precautions are in place, including screens and test and trace. Thanks!

Decided on this restaurant last night after a tiring day in Oxford. Glad that we did the food was amazing. Staff were all very friendly and the restaurant had taken safety very seriously with perspex screens between tables and ensuring customers checked in on the app. Will definitely visit again when next in Witney.

Amazing food as always and Omar looked after us impeccably. As do all the staff at the Shaan. Try the Sag Chanda it’s amazing.

We visited Shaan on their first night of opening since lockdown. Really good experience and was all Covid safe with screens, check in and spaced out tables. Excellent service as always and warm reception. Shaan has always served brilliant food and I particularly recommend the Chicken Tikka Dansak. By far the best curry house in Witney with consistent food and service! Will be back!

We found the Shaan by accident but were so glad that we did- excellent and friendly service and delicious food. A full menu offering all the old favourites plus new ones. Food arrived promptly, attractively presented and delicious. We will definitely be back next time we are in Witney.

We had the lamb biryani, chicken tikka masala and tried the poncho khana for the first time and it it not disappoint. The tikka masala was the best one I've ever tasted and the poncho khana was incredible. I thoroughly recommend the food and the service was amazing!

We took a friend visiting from India to dinner there. He thought it was excellent and later bought a take-away dinner for all of us. We often eat there and have always found it superb. We're about to order our first takeaway.

Just had a takeaway from here whilst here on business and must say the food was excellent, The staff were friendly and would highly recommend and definitely will be having more from here.

Best tasting curry I’ve ever had. The service was fantastic and everyone was was so lovely and friendly!!

I ordered takeaway at the last minute and the menu looked amazing. There was no trepidation as the food was described well and the prices weren't over the top. The food actually arrived 5 mins early and I got a little Christmas present from the driver. The food was amazing, try the veggie dishes, as a meat eater, I will say that the Cauliflower is more than a substitute for meat, it is better than steak. I cannot give this place more than a 5* because it won't let me. Amazing food, amazing service, and amazing staff (I called to let them know how good it was)

The food was great, the service was spot on, the whole evening was perfect.I have used this restaurant for some time now, You are always made to feel very welcome and all the staff work together to make your visit great. Birthday celebration with family. Lovely experience all round, really good service and excellent food!

Opted for a takeaway on a Saturday night having previously enjoyed some excellent meals delivered during lockdown. Last night however was a big disappointment. We don’t mind the 75 minute wait for a delivery but when the food arrives lukewarm and with items missing that’s annoying. To top it off the phone was then constantly engaged for about 45 minutes and we couldn't get the issues rectified. The contact email on the website also bounced back . Hopefully just a blip because I wasted £28 on a meal .

We had a very delicious meal as a family, the children love Shaan and it never disappoints. We were very impressed with the safety measures in place, and felt very safe. There were plastic screens between all the tables, table service and hand sanitiser offered. Menus were sanitised after use etc. Highly recommend.

Had a meal here tonight, the staff were fabulous and attentive, screens are in place and staff are working well within the modern world, food is lovely, and this is a clean, great, environment in balance I did not like the fact the credit card machine defaults to a 10% tip and if you want to leave a cash tip as we did, they have to void the sale, but on the whole a great meal, nice place and the staff work as a team to look after you

We visited Shaan Restaurant twice within a few days and I must say all dishes were mouth watering. All Staff wore face masks and they had screens surrounding the table making us feel safe from Covid-19. Iqbal was superb and recommended an authentic Tandoori King Prawn Massalla to us and this was one the best dish I have had in UK.The setting is nicely decorated throughout and clean. I would definitely go there again and also recommend to anyone wanting have a good Indian meal.

We had a fantastic meal here this evening- the flavours were unbelievable, eating Indian food is one of our favourites and this restaurant really is one of the best I’ve been too. They took so much care regarding covid putting up screens between tables and the waiters were wearing masks, so we felt very safe, without it being over the top clinical - it was a lovely ambience throughout the evening. We even had free after dinner drinks - baileys and a hot brandy! A nice finishing touch to a great evening. Thank you to all the staff Scott & Sally.

We drove from Cheltenham 45 mina away to meet freinds. Now we have some excellent Indian places of our own, So this really did have to be good.Often when you have 5 people = 10 different dish's, Something will be so so. Not at Shaan, Every single dish was great, Enen the Rice.We will 100% be back, Bringing some freinds from Cheltenham !

This restaurant offers Indian cuisine that is just a treat for the tastebuds - the menus is extensive and the dishes are freshly prepared and well presented. The service was excellent too. Covid precautions were in place with barriers between the tables.

Last time we were in Shaan was probably over 7 years ago. It was great back then. We were back in the area and returned with the (now older) kids and had booked. Fantastic food and service. Crisp naans, well cooked traditional dishes and some good modern twists. Tarka daal was superb which is always a good sign. If you are a nervous Covid nelly, the plastic dividers between tables and chefs wearing gloves will be of note. Youngest son said it was like eating abroad on holiday what with the internal neon lights. He's right and this added to the positive experience. Really good value for money with the food quality on offer, we will be back within 7 weeks this time!

Almost 5*!Great food and a nice environment. To get 5* simply ensure coke is not flat and that all rice is delivered together as we had to wait for one dish. Also if a customer says no ice - just a slice of lemon - then we do not expect ice with a slice of lime!We recommend and will return because the food tastes great!!!

Fantastic curry! The Sunday meal deal is incredible value and they should put their price up, the staff Abdul and Omar couldn’t have been more pleasant and helpful, will definitely visit again!

We love this restaurant. We came here a lot before lockdown. However for our anniversary meal we had to wait an hour between poppadoms and the main. We had a rice and naan to share, main each and one side. The chicken was ok but not to the usual standard. I had a cobra and my wife (pregnant) asked for tap water which they said due to covid was unavailable and so we had to have a bottle of still water. After the meal we had to wait half an hour to settle the bill. This came to over £50, which was much more than calculated on the menu provided. Assuming everything had gone up a pound which is unlikely, this must have meant the water cost nearly £8! For this reason we didn't tip like normal and only at this reason were we asked if everything was ok. I appreciate a busy restaurant, don't mind a bit of a wait, but please don't rip off you customers. Will only do takeaways from now on and will always check the price before confirming.

The food was fantastic and although it was very busy the staff were extremely helpful and efficient.

The atmosphere was absolutely lovely, with neon lights and bubble tanks. food was served on hot platters to keep the food warm. Lovely food. considering coronavirus , all waiters wore masks and tables were separated by clear screens to keep the 2 meter distance rule in order. Food was lovely and tender especially the chicken tikka!! !! would definitely come again and would recommend to a friend. The only thing we were not happy with was when you went to pay... they put a 10% service charge on the card machine....we were lucky dad spotted it otherwise we would of payed an extra £8.00.

Absolutely awful service ! Some staff were polite but some were so rude it was unbelievable! I think the owner was the one taking our bill . He was rude to my mother in law and blamed her for not knowing to click to opt out of the service charge . She cancelled the card payment and the man snatched the machine off her and said it’s her fault ! Lamb was dry and took a while to come out ! They were all running around like headless children’s !Won’t be returning ever !

Impromptu meal out on a Saturday evening. Great service, great food, lovely clean restaurant, great atmosphere. All the staff made you feel very welcome and did everything they could to look after you. Highly recommend.

Had dinner here on Tuesday. Nice food and atmosphere. Started with poppadums followed by a duck dish ( sorry forgot the name) ,chicken korma, coconut rice and garlic naan with the Best Onion Bhajis ever!

During lockdown we had 4/5 delicious meals delivered and we were always given a complimentary bottle of beer.We decided to dine out tonight and must say what a delight it was. The restaurant has Perspex partitions to ensure social distancing and most of the staff wore masks(perhaps they all should’ve though). Food and service was lovely. Omar was particularly attentive to our needs. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone feeling nervous about dining out in these difficult times.

We went to The Shaan for a famiy meal and it was the best one we've had in a long time. The food was excellent, the menu is extensive and very reasonabley priced and the quality was first class. The staff were delightful, welcoming and really friendly and the atmosphere and general ambiance was all you could ask for. First visit here and certainly did not disappoint. Very welcoming and felt very safe with plastic screens separating each table. We have been to many Indian restaurants and this is up with the best. The food was delicious and service speedy. The portions are generous and the price reasonable. We will certainly be returning.

It was so lovely to go back to the Shaan after they reopened after lockdown. We go their regularly (once a month probably) as a family so it was great to be back. It was lovely to be welcomed back by everyone there. They have taken the safety of their customers very seriously, and have clear screens between each table. The restaurant felt like it had plenty of space in it so you didn’t feel crowded or too close to anyone at any point. It was very clean and tidy too. The staff were as friendly as ever. They wore masks and gloves and kept to a good distance when possible. The food was incredible (as always). I personally enjoyed ‘Special Garlic Tikka’ and ‘Sag Paneer’. They always deliver such a high standard of food. We enjoyed a few of their takeaways during lockdown too ! I highly recommend the Sunday banquet as it’s such great value for money. You get SO much food so make sure you go their hungry. Again, would highly recommend the Shaan to all. We have small children and they always cater to them well. Can’t wait to go back again.

First time ordering a takeout from here , normally eat at restaurant and it's always lovely! Was not disappointed, food was good , lots of flavour and huge portion sizes . The only thing I would say is my chicken was quite dry but everything else was brilliant. I felt appreciated as a customer with the nice touch of free popadoms and a cobra! Thank you!

Love natural Indian curries not coloured. You’re taking the natural ingredients away and giving poison to people. The only thing was probably natural was the Chappatis

Yesterday evening the lovely staff at the Shaan restaurant provided me and my colleague a free meal as we work for the emergency services. I have always ordered from Shaan as their food is top quality, always. This kind gesture from the staff doesn’t go unnoticed to the wider community and I look forward to going back soon and dining in. I am been shan Resturant in Witney with my family. My children like there chicken tikka . And nan bread . We are enjoying there. So delicious every item of food . Thank you there all Cheff and staff

We visited on a really busy Saturday night, it was a last minute booking & we were lucky to get a table. The restaurant had a really nice atmosphere & although it was busy the service was good & food etc arrived in good time. I’m not sure if we ordered badly but our food was lacking in flavour & there wasn’t much chicken. Nothing to complain about, just not to our taste & we’ve had better curries. The chicken hadn’t taken on any of the flavour of the sauce. We had a nice meal, but not enough to want to return.

just nowHad Tandoori Chicken that wasnt cooked and raw in middle. Violently ill just over an hour later and now have diarrhoea. PROBLEMS I HAD WITH RESPONSES They offered to recook it!! Didnt take it away and then charged me for my meal and refused to take it off the bill and was offered apperatives instead, which I refused as starting to feel unwell. Didnt cause a fuss as it was someone else's birthday and was finally given a £10 voucher to go back there!!!

Different plates with great food - a wonderfully tasty meal. Colourful and dynamic atmosphere with a brightly colored bubble wall.Despite being very busy, Omar and the (at least 2) other waiters managed to stay friendly and serve us quickly and efficiently.Only downside: the background talking noise was too loud for me, had to stay very close in order to hear my colleagues talk. (And my ears are okay ;))

Went here with some friends when visiting the area, the staff were very miserable, we managed to get talking to the waiters and getting them smileing however anytime they spoke to us the manager was was straight over deligating them tasks and shutting them down. He was Very shovanistic and this was very unpleasant to watch to the point where we nearly walked out, we did not feel welcomed at all and felt as so we were being rush and watched because we were trying to have a laugh and a nice time. The food was ok however we ordered makhiani and this was more like a korma. Due to the very poor levels of management and not allowing his staff to engage positively with the customers i can strongly say we certainly will not be eating in this restaurant again.

The service was quick and efficient. The atmosphere in the restaurant itself was (even though it was busy) was relaxing and bubbly. The food tasted fantastic and the value for money is probably the best you are going to get in the area. Omar served us today and he was a real legend, nothing was too much or too hard to get for us and he made our visit a really lovely experience. Thank you

I made an online booking for a celebration and received an immediate confirmation by email. I checked by telephone on the day to be to told the online booking does not work and they could only offer a table very early but needed the table back within 90 minutes. Extremely rude. We celebrated elsewhere

We have been eating in Shaan for years, food & service are good, the only complaint we have is Mr Abdul Choudry the owner of Shaan is very aggressive with customers & staffs. On Sunday 29th Dec 2019, Mr Abdul Choudry has humiliated 2 member of his staffs, we was in shocked, it’s happened right front of us. We did spoken one staff, he said it’s nothing new, its Mr Abdul Choudry everyday medicine. I will report this to local authorities.

Had another great family meal in this restaurant, which we do try to visit when we are in the country! A few drinks and meals were mixed up as they seem to be training new staff, but the food was super as always. Great choice, incredibly flavourful and a real treat to visit. It is a small restaurant so space is always tight, but the standard of the food makes a visit a necessity always!

We have been customers at Shaans for many years with no problems and good food, until Saturday 7 th December 2019.

We have been using the Shaan for a long time and as far as we are concerned it's the best Asian food in the area. Service is always personal, professional still friendly.

Omar kindly greeted us and showed us to our table. Omar was extremely friendly, he smiled for us and he went above and beyond for us. I highly recommend this restaurant, the food was delicious, the lighting was amazing to watch and the restaurant was clean and welcoming.

This place used to be ok but had terrible service. Tonight myself and a friend had a wonderful meal. The starters were sensational. The main and sides were great and although quiet the atmosphere was fun. Complimentary drinks at the end and not a single staff member put a foot wrong. Thwy couldn't have tried harder to make us feel welcome. It really was a lovely experience. What a turn around.

Sizzling fresh food being brought to my table is every time a joy. Hot Naan, veggie dishes; everything from the kitchen is overwhelmingly delicious and carefully prepared.

Me and my father went to Shaan's prior to refurbishment and when very few people seemed to know about it in 2015, although we and I'm sure many others have good experiences long before I even set foot in the door here. It was a one-time visit, and we agreed a excellent meal. I had the Bay Of Bengal special at the time, my Dad had a Lamb Methi with Naan - Methi is one of his faves.

A bit quiet mid week but great food and service. Ideal area for visiting oxford and other tourist attractions.

This meal was for my birthday celebration, but I am incredibly disappointed. We had poppodoms and didn’t get our drinks until after we had ordered food and finished our poppadoms. Our main meal took a very long time, other tables were leaving in the same sitting before we got our main meals. The meal was nice but not worth the wait. We waited a while after we had finished for them to collect our plates. They were setting up another table before they even cleared ours. Once we got to the end of the meal they told us that the next sitting was here. This was rude and unacceptable! We are not slow eaters but the service was slow. One said that “it was because of the child”. The child is not even 18 months. They had food that they could eat from home so had no impact on the speed of the meal.

Have been eating at the shaan for the 7 years or so now. Always had a good experience food always great!! service is normally pretty good to! Visited again with our children 8 and 4 this evening, the food was brilliant, normally wouldn’t put reviews up however, we were served by Omar who we haven’t met before and he was fantastic. Really nice guy and great at his job, genuinely made a great restaurant even better!!

A novel experience of visiting a curry house before having a load of beers meant that I was able to study the menu in more detail and try a dish that I hadn't had before. The lamb dish I chose was great and the portion size more than enough when coupled with the rice, naan and dal. Service was very good and the prices were most reasonable.

Five of us visited and ordered four curries, two sides, three rice and two naans between us. The portions were large and the flavours good. Service was okay, but dependent upon which waiter served you. Well worth a visit and a safe place, but we've had better.

Amazing sources with good lamb and peppers, nice all round. Mild source want really for me, but lamb remained consistently good.
