The Setting Sun in Brighton and Hove

What a lovely night out at the Setting Sun. Very cool music, everyone in the place dancing. Bar staff were so kind even when they were so busy.

Super spot - friendly landlord, good beer selection, great tunes and best views in the area - 👍

We had out nhs work drinks there it was a lovely relaxed atmosphere lovely Christmas lights We had burgers 🍔 they had a 2 for 20 pounds night thru where delicious lots of chips and filling tasty burgers

Lovely atmosphere, friendly, unpretentious and warm. The food is not value for money. £16 should get you more than the begrudging amount of fish which they partnered with a mountain of chips - guess which ran out first? The burgers, equally, could be a bit more generous, and the add-ons like pickle and tartare sauce were uninspired at best. but will I go back? yes.

One of the best Sunday roast’s I’ve had in Brighton. Highly recommended. Community pub close to Queens Park, would not have visited without a recommendation, lovely atmosphere.

WOW!!! Without a doubt the best roast I’ve had in Brighton…and I’ve had a few 😉 There were 17 of us and we were looked after really well. The staff are really helpful and funny, and the food was amazing. Huge portions and so, so tasty 😋 Thank you 🙏

I've been a couple of times for Sunday roasts. Like most places you are advised to book ahead, but we have arrived early each time I've been they have found us a table with no fuss. It's always been very quiet when I've visited. Staff are very welcoming. Vegan nut roast here is great, maybe a quid or 2 more expensive than some, but we'll worth it. One day I'll have to stick around to see the sunset.

My love affair with a traditional Sunday Roast. Just had a very flavoursome Sunday roast with the family. Gravy is the crowning glory of any roast…this was super tasty. We had the Pork Belly £17.50 and Beef Rump £17.95 Kids had Pork Belly Roast £8 & Cauliflower Poppers £6.95 with a side of skinny fries. We didn’t feel rushed at all as they operate in 2 hour slots. (They state this when booking.) Great service from start to finish, really helpful & super friendly staff. So lucky to live in Hanover and have an array of great pubs on my doorstep. Thank you, it’s been a delightful experience here today. Can’t wait to come back again soon 😊

Nice menu and friendly helpful staff

Went today for Sunday lunch. The food was absolutely amazing. The three of us all chose roast beef. The plate was absolutely overflowing with beautifully cooked beef and a large selection of vegetables, all perfectly cooked. The Yorkshire pudding was a proper Yorkshire pudding. Lovely sitting outside in the sunshine with a fabulous view over Brighton. We were so well looked after by all the staff. Thanks for a lovely lunch!

The pub has a lovely, welcoming atmosphere and the staff are unobtrusively efficient and very friendly. They offer a wide selection of local beers as well as ciders. There were four of us and we all chose a different main meal, with a couple of sides as extras. All of the meals were excellent. It was good to have vegetarian choices that were just part of the main menu, and not feeling as if they were 'token add ons'. We also had one each of the three desserts on offer, again delicious, especially the vegan raspberry sorbet (who knew there was such a thing). A very pleasant evening and a lovely, well cooked, well presented, tasty meal, excellent value. We were there during later evening but if you go afternoon/early evening you can sit outside and watch the sunset over a great view of Brighton you don't always get to see.

Love the pub and the staff are lovely. The terrace is a great spot in the summer. It would be 5 stars but sadly they changed their kitchen and the new menu / food isn't nearly as good as it used to be and not great veggie options unless you like deep fried tofu :'-( would be great to see some fresh, healthier options for food again!

Staying with family for a few days in Brighton. I came before with just my Mum so booked again as we both enjoyed it. My Brother and Sister in law asked to join, so rang and see if they could accommodate. Kat was fantastic sorting this out as busy for lunch but able to be on the table I had requested just earlier slot It meant so much to be able to see my family and lunch with them. The food and wine is excellent I had the veggie wellington which was delicious as were all the vegetables with it. They are very big portions but Mum was asked if she would like a doggy bag.. The views are stunning all staff are excellent and so friendly.. Thank you for such a lovely time. We will be back again.

Here on holiday from Norfolk with our grandson. Popped in for a pint, booked a Sunday dinner table. All really friendly. Had beer on way back from pier. ( it is uphill!). We were offered eating options g the here and then. But, stuck to plan and returned an hour later. Lovely table, lovely service and great bottle of dry rose. Sunday dinner. Wow! Superb! Would put our ‘classy’ Norfolk eateries to test. Yorkshires, 6 veg plus bought and lovely cauly cheese made our beef rump/chicken superb. Grandson wants Sunday on Thursday for our tour meal! Fantastic friendly service. Thank you.

Mt housemates dad took us both out for roast dinner. The staff were really friendly and welcoming. Food was amazing and very big portions.

Wir waren gestern dort um etwas zu essen, Brucetta und Lasagne. Wir hätten es eigentlich sofort ahnen müssen als wir den schmutzigen Tisch gesehen haben. Die Brucetta bestand zu 90% aus Zwiebeln und die Lasagne aus Sahne. Das war eines Italieners nicht würdig. Der Kellner hingegen war sehr nett aber leider total überlastet, was evtl. auch den schmutzigen Tisch erklärt. Heute sind wir nochmal vorbeigegangen, der Laden war voll und die Leute sahen zufrieden aus, vielleicht hatten wir einfach Pech. Trotzdem sind wir woanders hingegangen.

Friendly and efficient service, but the food was a bit below par (how do you achieve a rubbery chicken breast?) and portions rather small. Not keen on the pay and display ar park.

We discovered this place on a visit to the newly renovated Open Market. The market istelf has had a great makeover and worth a visit when they have a weekend antique/retro day. We only had a light lunch at Kouzina but it was a surprise to find a Greek restaurant there at all. Friendly service and great toasted sandwiches with Greek flavours and ingredients. I only wish we had a bigger meal as the food on the next table looked amazing and a huge portion. It may only be a market cafe but it is fun and a definite positive addition to eating in the London Rd area.

Visited Kouzina in Brighton open market London road. This was my second visit. It's a nice stop off to have lunch or just. Snack either way you cannot be disappointed, from the large salad or hearty soups, lovely meat dishes which I have yet to explore. So here's to another good visit, keep the good work up

The vegan food is delicious, the staff are really friendly and helpful (especially the blond guy but unfortunately can’t remember his name) and the view is great. What more could you want.

Great food great service, didn't fancy their excellent main courses wanted something a little lighter so opted for couple of starters and three sides staff fully obliging served like a table full of tapas and unbelievably good value and a superb selection of food, all put down with an excellent house red. Cracking pub and the food is exceptional 👌great beers on tap, and excellent views over Brighton. Had the Buffalo cauliflower wings and oyster mushroom burger and both were delicious and unusual. Commendable effort with the vegan options as well! Will be coming back soon :)

First time here with the newish owners. They were SO welcoming and accomodating. We ate burgers (meat and veggie), both delicious with lovely, hot, fresh tasting fries. Along with panko crumbed deep fried olives- which was a new one on us but much enjoyed. We got there not long before the kitchen closed and they went out of their way to make sure we had a lovely, not rushed meal and kept a table outside so we got to watch the sunset too. 10/10 visit, looking forward to going back.

My niece and I had a really good lunch there today. She had Salmon fishcakes with chips and I had Pork and Stilton sausages with mashed potatoes. If you want a good meal and a nice pint check out this pub, you will not be disappointed .

Went there with my Bookgroup for our Christmas meal and had a wonderful time. Delicious food ( prebooked ) , reasonably - priced drinks and fantastic, friendly, efficient staff. Nothing was too much trouble, we had a lovely space to ourselves and all ten of us were delighted. Well - recommended, thankyou again, guys.

Gorgeous setting and lovely staff , a perfect place to meet friends for a drink . The food was OK but considering the reduced menu and the reduced amount of covers being served I would expect the food to be at a better standard . Specifically the Veggie burger for £11.50 great value but patty was so dry and uninspiring , however chips where delicious but too cold . The dhal was lovely!!! But for £12.50 it was not big enough despite the dish being rice and lentils? The fish cakes looked nicely presented and texture was good but they where bland . I have had a wonderful roast at the setting sun but would not return for their current menu .

Visited the Setting Sun at 5pm despite the grey weather. Staff were fabulous. Very helpful and attentive and of course the views is great. So relaxing. People next to us hadfoid and were delighted with it. We will definitely return very soon.

Me quedaré en Brighton unos días y una semana y este pub fue recomendado por un amigo en mi curso. ¡Qué joya absoluta de un pub! Estaba volando solo, pero me sentí muy bienvenido desde el momento en que entré por la puerta, tiene una sensación muy hogareña. El personal era muy agradable y educado. Si estás caminando desde el centro, ten cuidado, ¡hay algunas colinas empinadas! ! ¡Pensé que me había ganado una buena comida cuando me levanté! ! Es seguro decir que inhalé la hamburguesa que pedí, por lo que probé, ¡la comida era excelente! Impresionantes vistas de la puesta de sol, hace lo que dice en la lata! ! ! ! !

Buscamos en Hannover algún lugar que sirviera comida y estábamos a punto de rendirnos. ¡Nos alegramos mucho de no haberlo hecho! La comida era deliciosa y abundante. El personal era amable y servicial. El lugar era cálido y confortable. Los precios estaban en el lado alto, pero cuando despejas tu plato puedes perdonar eso. Ahora sabemos dónde está este pequeño y encantador restaurante de pub que definitivamente volveremos a visitar.

Dejé una mala crítica de The Setting Sun hace tres años (cuando estaba bajo una administración diferente), así que siento la necesidad de corregir el equilibrio. Absolutamente me encanta ahora. Came here last Thursday with group of friends, I had the sausage and mash. Great quality sausage and creamy mash . Nice wine available, service very friendly and to top it all off wonderful views of Brighton

The Setting Sun is back and I'm happy. Visited Thursday evening, not too busy which meant we could get a nice seat at a clean table. Great food good chilled lager. Great customer service. Stunning view from the terrace over Brighton. Actually had a lovelyevening thank you to the staff keep it up.

Sunday LunchHigh hopes for this one as its under new management and recently reopened.Lovely decor, 3 meat roasts available and a couple of veggie options. Heineken 00 on tap, Bonus!Sadly the food turned up and was very uninspiring. Soft roasties rather than crispy.We ordered three lamb dishes - one was pork but they insisted it was lamb ?? A mean few slices of fatty lamb. Standard couple of side veg. Definitely was a let down. - To be fair - the Gravy was amazing!On the plus side the staff are lovely and attentive. Spent £50 for three of us with one drink each and left a bad taste in our mouths. (my mouth, as I paid)Two of us certainly won't be back and the third lives across the road so will be in for a drink for sure.

I was blown away by the complete refurb - the attention to detail and the warm welcome by Joel.The ambience is just right: music, lighting and the thoughtful layout of tables and chairs.Our meals were simply restraunt standard. My partner's burger meat was hand ground so that it retained bite, texture and flavour of the steak.My curry was cooked from scratch using whole spices and the flavours were perfectly balanced.Coming back!

We went to this newly refurbed pub for Sunday lunch. The staff are very friendly and welcoming and we got our food in good time despite the pub being very busy (we booked a table in advance). Best roasts we’ve had for ages - Lamb, Beef and the veggie Wellington were all gorgeous and had plenty of delicious veg and gravy. Shared the apple and rhubarb crumble for dessert with rum and raisin ice cream, was fantastic. Came hungry and left full. Great visit! Would definitely recommend

The best thing about this pub is the view from the terrace. The worst is the off hand and rude customer service and the very very long wait for very average food

Después de estar ausente por algunos años, intenté verificar la nueva administración, pero nada cambió. . . la señora detrás del bar no estaba muy contenta de tener clientes a las 9. 30 hs. . . ¡Salí a revisar el patio y me dijeron "abruptamente" que estaba cerrado! Tuve mi bebida dentro y la certeza no se apresurará a regresar, probablemente hasta que una nueva administración comience de nuevo. . . Me parece que el Sol Poniente, un lugar encantador, no puede hacerlo bien. Ambiente muy frío y desagradable, casi como la gente no es bienvenida, no es la manera de prosperar en el servicio al cliente. Ah, golpear puertas tampoco ayuda, solo otra sugerencia. . . tal vez es por eso que está vacío. . . .

Fuimos a la noche de apertura. Lo que la nueva dueña y el propietario han hecho con el lugar es increíble, muy cómodo por dentro y por fuera, la vista desde Brighton hasta Worthing es tan grande como siempre. El caballero está equipado con humor también. Bebidas gratis la primera noche para los locales. Gama razonable de cervezas y vinos. El personal muy amable y eficiente (considerando que era la noche de apertura). Volveré pronto:)

We came today. No other customers there around 5pm. Barman couldnt be bothered to say hello to me despite my cheerful greeting to him. No ale, no pub snacks...now we know why no customers...

The Brighton School Of Samba has started using this venue for a combination of Sunday lunch and a committee meeting ... it is perfect .. not too loud and the food was delicious .. and I have to say the best tasting nut roast I have had in a long time.

Vista es preciosa, se siente muy como estar en vacaciones en este espacio. Lo pasamos de maravilla y sin duda regresaremos. Relajado, amable, buena comida y vistas! Gracias por una visita agradable

Mi marido y yo estábamos recomendado por un colega a probar este pub. Fuimos una noche calurosa jueves y tuvimos suerte de conseguir una mesa en la terraza. Podíamos ver por qué mi colega me ha recomendado. Buena bebida y buena comida al estilo tapas. Teníamos 4 placas que era suficiente. Las gambas ajo eran fabulosas y el pollo tenía una buena patada. Las vistas son increíbles. El servicio era amable y eficiente. Volveremos.

Creo merece la pena una visita aquí cada pocos meses como la experiencia siempre es diferente, ya que los propietarios y el personal del bar o pesebres estrategias de cocina parece ser siempre en alguna forma de flujo. El último par de visitas destacado 3 cosas. Mejorar los espacios exteriores e interiores, cambios sutiles pero bueno bajo la dirección del equipo que hemos acomodado. Otro cambio de cocina, ahora estamos en estilo tapas- y no es malo para un picar y un telón de fondo a las cervezas y charlar. Todavía estoy indeciso si es un conductor de destino, pero algunos de los platos de aspecto muy atractivo y cuánto servicio era impresionante en una noche ajetreada. Sin embargo, la cerveza es una verdadera decepción. Un solo ale de barril y ambas visitas recientes requiere que dejar de beber como los tubos o almacenamiento o algo simplemente no es justo. Y sin botellas o latas que obliga al bebedor ale al mundo lager. Ahora es el menos bien equipada (artesanías) bar de ale en la zona y que a impacto el número de visitantes.

Sencillamente, un delicioso asado, en un pub encantador. A lo largo de los años he visto muchos equipos diferentes intenta trabajar su magia en esta joya de un pub. Por desgracia, a veces sentimos que tiene que contar demasiado sobre las increíbles vistas y de una terraza soleada. Sin embargo, el actual equipo parecen haber agrietado. La decoración interior es fresco y acogedor. El personal es muy amable y servicial. Y lo más importante, los asados que pedimos estaban deliciosos. Top patatas asadas categoría - adecuada con el cocinado en crujientes estándar la carne que tienes en casa. Carne y queso coliflor excepcional encantador. Es una pena que un lado tienes que comprar pero merece la pena. Estábamos demasiado lleno para probar los pudines ya que las porciones eran muy generosas, pero volveremos a hacerlo. También he oído cosas buenas sobre su menú de tapas así la semana no puedo esperar a probar eso.

En vez de resaca, mi novio y yo decidimos que el único recurso sería un asado en el sol. Él había oído mencionar el Sol antes, decidimos pasear y ver si había espacio para nosotros dos individuos hambrientos. Afuera estaba estaba abarrotada (como era de esperar, el sol estaba ardiendo) pero esperamos por unos minutos y se convirtió en una mesa libre.

Vinimos para bebidas en un sábado. Todo el ambiente ha cambiado con la nueva administración. Decoración horrible, horrible música, comida mala. . . Y me echaron a todo el mundo (sólo dos grupos) y cerrado antes de las 11 horas aunque claramente publicado acababa a medianoche. Solía ser un buen pub para tomar una copa y charlar, pero que haya ido en serio cuesta abajo.

Nuevo menú de tapas, mejor en Brighton! He comido en muchos bares de tapas, pero el menú en la puesta de sol es excepcional (mejor que la mayoría de los lugares en Barcelona! ). Bien las porciones son pequeñas, pero la calidad es fantástica. Que es el chef? Él realmente sabe su (Español) las cebollas.

I visited just before sunset as suggested by an American friend (even though I live in U.K.). There was a welcoming atmosphere when I entered, great decor with witty quotes and a big smile from a lady I thought was the land lady as she worked so hard all night to make sure we were happy with the drinks and food we bought over the four hours we were there. We had a mexican dish and it was on offer at 2 for 1 so we got it discounted. It was a friday so we also enjoyed some cabaret from Dave Lynn. I think this pub is a real find and away from the other venues on the coast which offer far less, Definitely worth going!!!!

Went here last Sunday as my son had been raving on that we must try one of their roasts at his local. Have to say it lived up to our expectations and was gorgeous. We both had the beef and they were very generous portions. The cauliflower cheese that we ordered as an extra side dish was to die for. All came home feeling rather stuffed and content!! Staff were very friendly and helpful an all round lovely pub. Definitely worth a visit.

My favourite Hanover local, full of surprises and with a warm and attentive team. The burgers are good and I have also had great Sunday roasts here. Most of all though I feel very welcomed here, whether on my own or in a group. Sasha

A quiet night but never lacking in atmosphere. Food was so tasty. The pizza was a thin homemade crust covered in toppings and huge, fish and chips fresh and tasty and the burgers lovely. The triple cooked fries delicious. We love this place friendly, atmospheric and great food. £60 for four with a bottle of wine good value too.

We were a party of 3 and booked a table for Saturday night thinking it would be busy. Drinks ordered, menu scanned and food was ordered all good. We'd chosen a platter to share with a main course each. 45 minutes later and having chased the waiter several times the starter eventually arrived. The waiter apologised saying it was busy in the kitchen. We looked around the pub, there were 3 tables having food!!Then before we had finished our platter the waiter reappeared and asked if we were ready for our main courses! Main courses were delivered with one of our party having ordered 'pie and mash'. The pie and mash were very good but were surrounded with gravy that was absolutely stone cold. The waiter was recalled and the dished was dispatched to the kitchen. The dish was replaced and there were no further problems. To their credit the platter was not included in the bill in compensation for the poor service.Overall the food was good but let down by the service

Booked a table for Sunday lunch and had a beautiful meal. There was a choice of pork, beef, turkey, gamon or nut roast. We both went for beef and were amazed at the portion size for £11:95!! There was also a selection of sides to choose from. The food was delicious and so were the Cabernet Sauvignon wine and service. Very lucky to have this pub on my doorstep. Thank you!

Everything is burger, chips, burger, chips, pies. I was lucky enough to get some bread replaced by a decent bowl of salad though. Otherwise, repetitive and unhealthy. And, for the quality of the food, very much the wrong side of ten pounds a dish. It's a kind of 'alright' place. The front bar is very bright. The restaurant area is OK though and would have a nice view in the daytime. I think they must have had a problem with their sounds when we were there, it was rather annoyingly tinny 80s music that wore a bit thin. Polite barman.

What a little gem of a place this is... Been a couple of times now to meet friends and on both occasions have had a wonderful meal, the steak cooked well and the chips are home made and are the best! Would definitely recommend as a quiet place to meet up with friends or family and somewhere to have good honest home made food.

what a pub..you have just got to go there..only a small pub but a big hart. Been there 2 times now and will go back many more times, I cant put this place in to words. Go there when a theme night or a party and feel this place...WOW the cider weekend was the best one ever...just look on face book

What a lovely little pub. Great choice of beer, lovely menu and friendly staff. They had clearly been making a massive effort for Halloween, the decorations looked amazing! We had a could of starters to share, and they were absolutely lovely, and then we had a burger and fish and chips. Both were brilliant, but I must highlight the delicious batter, so light and crispy, perfect! We will be visiting more often, this place is great and has a view to die for! Thanks

Saturday afternoon, and we fancied a walk, a pint and a spot of lunch. We found a lovely hidden gem! Camembert was delicious, calamari was delicious. They have a great recipe for batter! We had cod and chips and a burger all lovely. We had a friendly welcome, brilliant service and enjoyed it thoroughly. We will soon be back.

It's one of my favourite pubs in Brighton. Always good for a pint as the sun goes down (hence the name). The view from the back terrace garden takes in the whole of Brighton. Food is usually very good also.

Booked for 1pm for table of 6...Menu was small but impressive, ordered 4 beef and 2 Pork... 40 minutes later our meals arrived, however the meals were not as we ordered... what came to us was 4 pork and 2 beef...so 2 of our party decided to wait the "5" minutes it would take to replace the dishes which were wrong.....Despite numerous requests for the meals to arrive eventually they arrived 45 minutes after we got ours...the "Landlord" came to us with an aggressive manor as we had complained about the wait...he subsequently told us we have to wait for quality food!! Not normally an issue as we already did but to wait a further 45 minutes after it was the Venues fault is ridiculous..He told us to eat elsewhere in the future!!Which we will!!!

The owners and staff are all welcoming and very friendly, excellent beer and lovely views. One of my favourite pubs in Brighton.

Friendly staff, attractive interior and a great view of over Brighton. Really worth finding because it is slightly away from the usual haunts. We had a family meal on a Monday night. The fillet steaks were superb, beautifully cooked to order and presented. Service was excellent! House red wine was good quality. There was also a Monday night pub quiz which was great fun.The atmosphere was friendly, laid back and buzzing. The whole experience was memorable (in a good way).

Bought a Gin and Tonic for £5.70 and thought it was expensive, told the barman that was a bit pricey and then got a rude manager come to my table and tell me that that was the price and if I didn't like it I shouldn't come back. You're a local pub in the top of Hannover not a cocktail bar in Soho. No one in Brighton charges 4.10 for a shot of Beefeater Gin, Salt Room charges £3.50 and its one of the nicest restaurants in town.And learn some manners when you talk to Customers

As a Hanover resident I had heard good things from local friends. I must say we had a great experience. We felt important from the minute we walked through the door with great service from the front house. We ordered the haddock which was served with chorizto and new potatoes as the main (definitely recommend) which was brilliant.A all round great trip which finished with drinks on an breath taking view of Brighton!The Setting Sun has now become one of my hotspots which I definitely be visiting again!

Friends have recently moved to Hanover and we were really looking to find a place that would become our regular for meeting up with a couple of bottles of wine and a good meal. Not expecting anything amazing just competent and reliably good. We got off to a positive start as it had a good location with outside space and great views to the seafront and i360. The place was 3/4 empty with most people just drinking but I think there must have been some other diners. We ordered food just after 7:00 and it arrived nearly 8:00 - no intervening apology or explanation. We had ordered bread with oil for while were waiting. The waitress was initially unsure whether they would have such a thing. Eventually some TOASTED Ciabatta arrived - quite bizarre. Two of us had salads which were fine once we had ordered additional dressing. Two of us had linguine with mussels and prawns - and that was exactly what we got - mussels and prawns and pasta - no sauce - completely dry. We were informed that the owners / managers were off today. We complained in a non aggressive manner and the young man supervising was polite and apologetic and offered a free bottle of wine or to fully refunded the pasta dishes, we thanked him and accepted the latter. We got the strong impression that we weren't the first people to complain about this dish - so why were they still serving something so obviously wrong? We felt that there weren't actually any chefs but people assembling meals according to a checklist. This could be such a great place but it needs some proper management and a clear sense of direction.

I went with my parents to have a sunday roast. We choose the lamb roast and it was delicious! All was cooked perfectly. Big portions. The staff was really kind. It's a lovely place to go. I definitely recommend it.

Went for the quiz and discovered 241 steaks, absolutely banging, cooked how we wanted with a delicious sauce and cracking chips.Highly recommended
