Disgusting chip shop. Shocked at the quality and then the cost was extortionate. The mushy peas were horrible, tasteless and watery:slop

We visited here as we have been coming for years. We usually go to the captain’s table when we visit but it was shut this evening. So we ventured next door to the seafarer. The first shock was the price; 3 average sized fish an average size portion on chips and 2 portions of mushy peas for £32😱. But we thought no mither were on holiday. The food was horrible. My fish was grey and full of bones 🤢. Very small portions. The chips were soggy and cold even though we ate them straight away. The mushy peas were honestly the worst I’ve ever tasted. Tasteless, peas in a green watery slop and sadly cold, Certainly not mushy. I gave my fish to my dog at least He didn’t refuse it. Sorry to be so negative but it was so bad I had to do a review. It was a rip off and they only get customers I feel because we’re a captive audience when on holiday, so can charge whatever they like despite the poor quality 😏

Port Eynon is a funny village with a lot of campsites, pub, large sea front and 3 chippys/ice cream shops all right net to each other. We chose seafarer as we'd been to the other for ice cream and wanted to sit inside as was a cooler eve. Food and portions we decent, I was a bit disappointed the 'meals' didnt come with sauce so added it extra and the plaice was breaded not battered but overall was good british sea front fish and chips. Ice creams were very good in amount of choice & quality

Possibly the worst fish and chips we have ever had. Vastly over priced and fish was not even battered but coated in bread crumbs and had clearly been reheated making it inedible and disgusting. At nearly £60 for 4 meals (no drinks) the whole experience was hugely disappointing.

Great customer service at Seafarer. Thank you to Anne for helping with our large family food order. We phoned ahead. Hot delicious fish and chips, lots of condiments sorted for us, friendly service. Sausage, pie, mushy peas and curry sauce all good.

My cousin and her husband took my mum here for some food and a day out to give me a break. They spent £27.00 on food there and my cousin asked if her disabled auntie could use the toilet only to be told there's one across the road. My mum has a problem with holding her water and most shops do not have a problem with letting us use their facilities. My cousin took her across the road and by this time she had already wet herself which coursed her to be very upset and she had to come home. Very disappointed with you guys, how would you like it, if this was your mum or dad. Shocking

Dearest fish & chips we have had. recently purchase fish & chips and fishcake & chips to take out. Charged £19.20 for the two meals, whilst the fish was nice the chips had clearly been cooked for some time and the fishcake was no different to one from a budget supermarket. Not sure what the meals cost individually, just glad we didn't have fish and chips twice !!.

Eat in or takeaway fish n chips. Right on the beach. With seating outside. Freshly cooked. Great chips. Served with a smile.

Lovely staff, great selection, lovely and clean. Freshly cooked hot tasty chips. Fab corn beef rissoles and cheese and leek ones. Lush x

There were quite a few of us so in total we paid over £80 but it was very disappointing. Ordered the plaice which came in breadcrumbs so was clearly pre frozen, bland and tasteless, hubby had the cod which, again was already battered so was clearly bought frozen and then dunked in the fryer either hoping we wouldn’t notice or not caring either way, Chips were soggy, overall waste of money. Maybe cost of living has forced corners to be cut but it wasn’t cheap and wasn’t worth the money, save your money and go elsewhere.

Really disappointing that there are no gluten free options on the menu other than chips. We drove 15-20 minutes from where we are staying during our holiday as this is the nearest chippy and we wanted to have traditional fish and chips from the coast only to come back from The Seafarer with 5 small portions of dry chips for dinner which were also expensive at over £17.00. Feeling very sad :(

Great choice of takeaway food, there are tables outside for customers too. We would have come back later for the fish and chips , they looked delicious, unfortunately they closed at 4pm. Why does everywhere in south wales close at 4pm ??? in the middle of the holiday season.

Needs to sort out the times, Google says open turned up at 1600 all closed, still closed when we left at 1800. Looks a good place though from the outside, ample parking nearby (pay and display)

£2.50 for a rissole that’s the size of a scotch egg?! Planet are you on?! Chips - no small or large, just one size that is pretty much a small and priced at £3.50. Come on, be serious, if you wanna charge £3.50 fine but at least fill someone up with a fair size meal! Oh, and to top it off, every shop in Swansea that sells Joes once cream in tubs sells them for £1.30. This place? £3.00!!! “Give me your money, we’ll give you as little as possible, clear off, I know you won’t come back but tourists will come anyway so hahaha!!” Seems to be the motto of this place.

Quick service with freshly cooked fish and nice hot chips. Fish was a little greasy but overall really nice.

We were looking forward to fish and chips on the first night of our break. Unfortunately the fish was luke warm and not great quality. It also seemed expensive for what we ordered. We would not return.

We are staying in the village & family came & joined us from Tycoch for the evening. They recommended the fish & ships from here & were not wrong! Beautiful cod & chips. Cooked really well & large portions.

Enjoyed the meal. I had curry sauce, chips and sausage. Wouldn’t have the curry sauce again if I’m honest. But chips were tasty. Portion size okay. Little bit on the expensive side though. But i guess they can charge those prices seen as where they...

Good selection, social distancing on entry and exit has been considered but is not enforced - not their fault I suppose. Food was nice if a little expensive but then port eynon is beautiful so they have you over a bit of a barrel

We have eaten here before, and couldn’t fault it. We went for lunch, and maybe fat fryers not to temperature, but we’re really disappointed in soggy chips sticking to the cardboard. Fish was good though, batter also soggy.

Recently went to The Seafarer with friends for an evangelist meal. Everything was freshly cooked and was delicious. The cod was cooked to perfection. Staff were friendly and efficient. Can’t wait for it to open again next season.

Average... Big portion but average fish & chip. Nothing to go back for. Bonus, no seagulls bomb diving on your food.

the view is as good as the chips and coffee always friendly and a nice venue for a beautiful area of swansea, wide ranging menu to for all tastes

Exactly what you expect from a decent seaside greasy spoon caff; we ordered a large brekkie and got lots of heart stopping delights: fried eggs, bacon, sausage with hash browns and baked beans. nowt fancy, but it hit the spot.

Cooked fresh and really tasty, nice sized portions. Nice pleasant staff and a clean outside eating area, minus any sea gulls too!!

Nice chips, good size fish and excellent batter. Maybe a bit expensive compared to home, but we are hols so all OK. Staff friendly and plenty of seating inside and out.

Went for a stroll along the beach and went into the Seafarer for something to eat and had the best fish and chips ever, nice clean place, lovely staff and finished it off with an ice cream enjoying the view. Would recommend and will go again ourselves

Called in here one morning after a damp walk in Horton & Port Eynon. Nice warm café with friendly staff. £2.50 for coffee and a Welsh cake.We were both expecting an instant coffee but to our delight we were offered various options and both had a lovely hot latte. Welsh cake was a bit soggy where it has been warmed up but it hit the spot.

Went here after a Lovely walk with hubs. Hubs could see the seafarer and wanted fish and chips. I opted for pie and chips. We asked if we could have take away carton instead of plate as although eating outside as we told them hubs wanted his fish and chips from a bag. Sat outside, lovely view and relaxed watching birds looking for bits of food. Had to wait a little while for food but definitely worth it, hot and delicious. Will definitely go there again.

Shropshire Centre held rally at nearby site and over the fortnight we organised a fish & chip supper and also a pasty & chips supper. Big thanks to Ann & her team who managed to suppy the food even in the bussiest time of year. Anyone running a "rally"or "meet" give them a call. Thanks again

Went here twice last week. First time the fish was lovely but the chips were pretty soggy. Second time the fish was good again and the chips were much better. This place is quite expensive really.

We visited during our stay nearby and we both had cod and chips, when it arrived it was a good sized portion and the chips were really nice, the same applied to the batter on the fish. Although I ordered Cod it was totally tasteless.

It is a must to have fish and chips from the Seafarers as they are superb. Cooked fresh and friendly staff.

The pies are really good and so is the fish, my family were very happy with the food from here. It was all served freshly made and hot, staff were polite and the place looked very clean and organised.

Great location for al fresco food! Disappointingly, the fish and chips were ‘lack lustre’. Portion sizes were good but the batter on the fish was not. The chips were OK albeit pale and slightly undercooked. I have had fantastic battered fish elsewhere but sadly not here. Great place if you’re starving...............

While we all have a romantic idea of eating fresh caught fish and chips at the sea side. “Lovely I hear you all say” sadly the reality of the food provided is far from that romantic idea. The Seafarer offer a good selection of food which is for the most part bearable.

Two fish and chip shops next to each other - one was empty and this one was packed - so we joined the queue!

Called for Fish And Chips before going on the beach Did not have Haddock. Cod was tasteless The fish was red hot but the batter was soggy and not crispy Chips were anaemic . At £23 for fish and chips with a pot of tea for two I was expecting much better quality

Lunched here having seen the place before on a previous visit but never sampled.

Nice spot near the beech, I had a chip butty and my partner had a tuna sandwich. Both very nice and service was very quick sat outside in the sun. The only slight let down was a small spot of mild on the sandwich. The chips were spot on and I would go there again if in the area.

We visited The Seafarer on our day trip around Gower and ordered cod and chips which was absolutely stunning, the chips were fresh and the fish was cooked to perfection. The staff were polite and helpful; the older lady seemed quite grumpy and rude to the other staff and it was quite awkward to watch. Other than that our visit was very pleasant and we would come again!

Friendly staff, great with the children and very helpful with the Birthday Cake. Food was hot and beautifully cooked. This was a lovely end to a great day. Thank you so much

We stayed at the nearby Culver House hotel and didn't want to cook. Perfect stroll to the Seafarer was the answer. The fish was freshly cooked and the fillets were a good size, thickness and length.

After some nice walks this was ideal for drinks and ice creams Pleasant views and good seating outside.

If ever your in the area or want to come for a spin down to Port Eynon for Fish N Chips, e.g on a Saturday afternoon Tea Time or if you have been on a walk on Gower and feeling hungry look no further than the Seafarer, its without a doubt the best on Gower.

popped in here for fish and chips, while waiting i asked could i use the loo, no i was told it's not working, which i thought was against the law if it's an eating place. Well anyway our chips were dry and hard and the fish was spongy to touch because of all the flour, bloody horrible, won't be going there again

We stopped here for a coffee while we were on a 13 mile walk. We all had muddy boots and the floor had just been cleaned but we were welcomed in anyway. Friendly staff and we were given a plate of Welsh cakes for free. Hot food inc fish and chips available along with the usual cafe fayre.

Stopped here for some chips after an hour walking around Port Eynon beach. The chips were some of the freshest I’ve had in a long time. Rounded off a lovely afternoon.

Do not go here if you are not hungry. Pleasantly surprised when we visited, all food cooked fresh not a frozen chip in sight, clean and welcoming. This chip shop is a winner and should have above the door Quality, Quantity and value

We had cod and chips on a recent Saturday evening. The place was packed and queuing out the door. Admittedly it took almost 30 minutes to get to the counter but once there the service was quick and efficient. We sat at a nearby table and within a few minutes are three meals were ready. The batter on the cod was light and crispy and could not be faulted. Would definitely recommend the Seafarer for its fish and chips.

This would have been a 5 star review for the excellent fish if we hadn't been snapped at by the waitress for asking for sauce, then charged a very high amount for what were small portions. Disappointing experience that left us not wanting to return.

I visited The Seafarer fish and chips restaurant whilst on holiday in South Wales and was pleasantly surprised!

Called in with my son for fish & chips for lunch. Chips were fantastic and so was the fish. Portion size was excellent, including a large fish. The owner took some time out to chat to us outside, and clearly has a passion for what she does - the business has been in her family (don't worry, it's not the Grove's!) for 35 years. The cleanliness, quality, location, facilities (lovely eating area outside) and service (the girl brought our meals outside to us) all provide good value in my view. We will be back...!

Food good but expensive. Batter light and tasty, cod good but pie a bit soggy. £16 for dinner for two, which isn't cheap.

After looking at all the great reviews, I'm thinking this could be a one off?

We called on the busiest evening possible and if you are looking to get in and out quickly I wouldn't bank on it. The restaurant was full and the queue had 20 people in it. The fish and chips however was great. And very reasonable.

We stopped by whilst camping in near by Horton. Choice of 2 restaurants almost next to each other. We chose this one only based on we could see table free. The fish is cooked to order. Nice fresh chips. Home chipped. I can honestly say this was one of the best fish and chips we have had. Nicely seasoned hot and crispy. If it was closer I'd go back again and again. Thank you. Parking near by in pay and display car park. Restaurant right in the beach. Lovely.

I usually don't review places that I eat from and even though the food was great, fish cooked perfectly, batter crisp as a crisp thing and chips superb, its not the reason I am writing this,The main reason is after popping in for a last night camping family treat with my daughter, i foolishly left my wallet on the table, not realizing this until we had traveled the three and half hour journey back home. I rang on the Sunday night and spoke to Anne(hopefully spelt your name correct) who reassured me that they had my wallet that they would not only post it back to me at the first opportunity but would do this at their own expense even after I offered to send a Paypal payment to them.Thank you so much Anne, throughout our wonderful holiday we encountered the most warm welcome and hospitality from the people on the Gower Peninsula and you did nothing but cement this for us.Give these people your business

Popped in for a family treat whilst on holiday. Place was clean and tidy. Good menu selection - the usual curry sauce available. Moderately busy for a Monday evening in July, but still a 25 minute wait seemed quite excessive. Our order was one child portion of sausage and chips, cod, plaice and a scampi, all with chips. Disappointingly, the scampi and plaice were overdone, crispy to the point of hardness and very dry, whilst the cod was only just cooked and the batter soggy. Pretty disappointing for >£25.

I've always been a bit 'sniffy' about fish in batter, thinking that the batter spoiled a good piece of fish. (Probably never had it done well) However, we decided to go for it in the spirit of our good old fashioned beach break. So glad we did it was absolutely delicious and definitely the best we've ever tasted. Chips were good too. All served in a spotlessly clean cafe with cheerful, helpful staff. They serve a very generous scoop of Joe's ice cream too. Would definitely recommend this cafe.

We called in there for a cup of tea, the café was busy so we sat at the one available clean table near the entrance, then I proceeded to close the door as I have arthritis an the draft makes it more painful. One of the customers told me to sit somewhere else as the café gets steamed up they need to keep the door open. This customer was the owners friend. IF YOU READ THIS SEAFARER YOU NEED TO GET VENTILATION SORTED AND NOT LET YOUR CUSTOMERS TELL PEOPLE WHERE THEY CAN OR CANNOT SIT. I won't be going there again.

Ate in. Clean and wel decorated. Good welcome. Helpful staff. Chips cooked fresh for us. I would suggest that bigger plates are used. Potion was generous but it was piled onto a plate no bigger than a tea plate.

after spending over 16 quid on two cod and chips and fish fingers, I was surprised to be asked for more money for some ketchup for my daughter. come on Seafarer, you must be making enough to chuck in a bit of sasuce! i was surprised the salt and vinegar were free! the fish and chips were fantastic to be fair. really fresh and great taste.

We been there as group of 16 no had lunch and breakfast at seafarer ,very fresh and authentic with reasonable price ,definitely worth visit.Best fish and chips ever.

We decided on a take away instead of eating in. Very nice fish and although the chips were a little soggy by the time we got home they were still edible. Would go back but perhaps eat in next time.

A great place down by the beach for wonderful fish and chips. The batter on the fish was very light and tasty and the fish was scrumptious. Their special was the chicken which we also tried and was very tasty and plenty of it. The staff are very lovely and attentive. Good service and an excellent cup of tea too. Well worth going and then having a walk on the beach afterwards.

we were camping in Port Eynon and after a long walk on the beach thought that we deserved a cup of tea and a Welsh cake. we were the only ones in the café and had a nice chat to the lady behind the counter and talked of local history. Lovely little place and apparently mobbed in the summer months. Although I didn't eat here it was nice and clean and looked welcoming.

We stopped here after a walk along the coast. Both had a cooling ice cream and sat in the sun. Generous portion of ice cream which you don't often get. Rum & Raisin and Caramel Crunch.

We popped in after packing up on the nearby campsite, we had a good full welsh breakfast with all the trimmings, cooked fresh for us with coffee.

I may be biased but just had two days of camping on the Gower Peninsula and opted to daily breakfast at the Seafarer. John Anne and staff are very welcoming and maintain a high standard in respect of the facilities offered and cleanliness of the restaurant.Welknown for the "fish n chip" business however their Welsh (english) breakfast is exceptionally good in both quality and value for money (they do a vegi version as well though not tried) all elements are freshly cooked and the eggs are perfectly cooked a credit to the Chef.Port Eynon is very lucky to have the Ellsmore's as they set the standards for the other equally as good businesses locally, however thier welcome is one that is hard to match.Give it a try you will not be disappointed.

We had a fish supper at the Seafarer cafe at Port Eynon on our first night of 3 in the village. It was a lovely evening following a warm, sunny day on Gower and this traditional, enjoyable meal reminded me so much of childhood holidays on the east coast of Scotland. Thoroughly enjoyed the beautifully cooked fish and chips served by pleasant, efficient staff. The dog enjoyed her share of the fish particularly after a walk along the beautiful beach.

Camped near by and had chips from there a few times.Very busy be prepared to wait.Food is very nice and good size portions,and not to greasy .Eat in or out or just take away.By far the best chippy in area.Thanku for lush chips.

Bank Holiday Monday and we were able to get a table outside this cracking chippy. The fish and chips were really fresh. They also sell delicious ice-creams. Good sized portions of chips and because we had to wait five minutes whilst my daughter's special fish finger order was prepared the staff upped the chip portion size ! Inside all was clean and although they were busy the staff were friendly and cheerful. A model seaside fish & chip experience. Looking forward to our next visit.

This is a convenient chip shop right next to Port Eynon beach. Good food at a decent price. Very friendly staff.

Just had really good fish and chips here. Freshly cooked, very pleasant staff and fairly priced. Small plates give impression of large portions but it is more than adequate. Yes our fish had a few bones in....but then I thought all fish had bones . Go, you won't be disappointed

No gimmick's, no distractions, this is exactly what you want of a seaside chip shop. Great quality fresh fish alongside the classic, pies, sausages and burgers. Don't expect restaurant quality, be prepared to stand in line for a bit and enjoy the classic paper wrapped hot wonderfulness. Special mention for Ricciardo, really friendly cook who along with all of the other staff made our brief visit really memorable,

We visited this little place on Tuesday 16th of August & plumped for a meal at The Seafarer fish & chip shop. There were three of us. My wife asked for baked potato but was told there was none so she asked for tuna but had the same reply, In the end we had 3 servings of cod & chips plus 2 teas & 2 coffees. The bill came to a few pence short of £28. My wife checked our receipt an questioned what the 3 extra items were that we hadn't ordered as was told that the fish is charged separately from the chips ! This was the first time in my life that I've had to pick bones out of cod in a fish & chip meal. My friend had the same problem & the taste of both the chips & fish was awful

I've had fish and chips 1473 times in my life (that average was bumped up between '83 and '85 when I ate fish and chips every single night BUT from the same shop so although I experienced a large quantity I DID NOT EXPERIENCE VARIETY!). My F&C's from The Seafarer were my most recent and I say, unreservedly, that they were the eighth best I've ever had. The food itself was stunning. It was warm, it was cooked and it tasted. The service was efficient but friendly. They took my money (I gave them a £20 note and they gave me change) and there was an appropriate amount of pleases and thank you's exchanged and I watched for about half an hour afterwards and the staff maintained this level of courtesy with EVERY SINGLE CUSTOMER! It might also please connoisseurs to know that I didn't experience any of the symptoms associated with food poisoning after my dining experience. The only downside was that I was stung by a wasp but in fairness that was nothing to do with the shop. I brought it entirely upon myself and continue to have issues with the wasp community which I feel are unlikely to be resolved.

We had cod and chips here on the evening when we arrived for our self catering holiday and enjoyed them so much that we returned later in the week. The fish was very good and well cooked but on both occasions we both found pin bones in our fish, not really a problem but unusual for chip shop fish in our limited experience. If going in the evening (Apr-Sep) then it is worth waiting until 7pm when the car park is free and open until 8.30. We had a takeaway and went nearer the sea to eat but there are tables inside and out. Probably not the cheapest fish and chips but we felt good value for money.

Truly the freshist fish and chips probably ever and a really good full breakfast. Great value for kids too. Went back day after day. Very friendly service and very accommodating.

Really enjoyed the icecream and staff and owner went well beyond the call of duty to help us out of a difficult situation at cost to themselves when we were stranded a long way from our car. Many thanks.

The fish supper is a must. Well cooked and delicious. Welcoming, friendly and attentive staff. Every surface is immaculate even after a very busy day. You will want to return we certainly will.
