The Saddle Room Restaurant in Richmondshire

This restaurant had been recommended by family so we were eager to try it out, and wow is all I can say! The staff were really friendly, ensuring we were always catered for, as soon as our drinks were empty we were asked if we wanted another even though the restaurant was busy and fully booked. The wine was presented to us professionally each time. We visited on Sunday so it was the Sunday Lunch menu, and the food was on another level! There were several options, but you can get any 2 courses for £28 or 3 courses for £32, which we felt was a great deal considering the quality of the food was amazing. This restaurant also offers a vegan/vegetarian menu with plenty of choices meaning there is something for everyone! 2 of us opted for the two course and two opted for the three course. To start, we all had the ham scrumpet, (pulled ham in breadcrumbs, with a hollandaise like sauce and a runny poached egg on top). This was very tasty and the egg was cooked to perfection, not too runny and not too hard. For the mains, we ordered; the beef roast dinner, lamb roast dinner & the silver bream, prawn and salmon fishcake. The roast dinners were beautifully presented, the chef actually carves the meat in front of you at the table for you. The Yorkshire pudding which was probably the best Yorkshire pudding we’ve ever tasted, we think it had been cooked in beef dripping. The vegetables which consisted of greens, roast potatoes, cauliflower cheese and other roast veggies were placed on the tables in bowls so you could help yourself. The only minor thing that I could fault the dinner on was that you didn’t get much gravy, however I’m sure if we’d of asked for some more we would’ve been given some. For dessert we had the blackcurrant pavlova and the apple and cinnamon bread and butter pudding served with custard and ice cream. I would never normally opt for a bread and butter pudding but this dessert was so tasty! I loved that it had the apple and cinnamon flavouring to it as well. The pavlova was also very good, a light and refreshing to end the meal. Both of these desserts were also beautifully presented. Overall, everything about this place was fantastic, from the food to the service, it was a wonderful experience and I would definitely return here!

We decided to go here as a day out by sticking a pin in a map and finding somewhere close-by. There was plenty of parking but we found the entrance to the restaurant difficult to find and the signage was a bit confusing. It could do with some clearer landmarking outside. The result was a really nice meal in a fairly quiet restaurant in a location we'd never been to before. The restaurant was very nicely finished out, warm, light, and comfortable. Every part of the building is immaculate from the reception area through to the toilets. It was fairly quiet when we arrived for lunch but they later put a group of guys in the stall next to us, which increased the volume tremendously! We had the halloumi burger with chips (vegetarian menu), and fish and chips. The burger had a large chunk of halloumi in it, which was nice, although I prefer it a little more grilled than mine was. I thought the portion of chips was a little meagre, compared to the portion that came with the fish for the same price. And I would prefer my food to be served on a plate, not a chopping board. The fish and chips was generous: plenty of fish and plenty of chips. All were well cooked and the fish was properly boned. The tea and coffee were reasonably priced (£2.50 ea.), considering the main lunch courses were £18 each. Overall, it was a great experience (probably nicer for being off-season, I imagine it gets really busy when the tourists are out) in a lovely venue and actually probably about the right price.

We actually stayed in the B&B in one of the ground floor rooms, dined in and the next morning enjoyed our breakfast. The surroundings are of breathtaking beauty and there are plentiful walking areas nearby. The surrounding buildings and cottages are charming offering a variety of options. Our room was nice, the beds were comfortable, everything was spotlessly clean and overall enjoyable. The food was super tasty and the attention to quality was appreciated. The breakfast was the standard full British, missing local produce but still nice. Will certainly visit again later when the forbidden garden will open.

We stayed the weekend, the room and the breakfast were 5 star. The room was fab and very clean, comfy bed, really nice bathroom. Dinner was good, but for me not as good as the rest of the stay. The table for two was a little cramped. Our order for white wine, came with a good, cold wine bucket, but that bucket was dumped on the table leaving little room to eat. The service was mostly brilliant, but a bit slow to remove used items from the, small, table. My sirloin steak was cooked perfectly medium rare but was not rested, it was also tough, it didn’t seem like there had been any attempt to cook off and crisp the fat, which was, therefore, inedible. There was a whole tomato, it was cooked, but not sliced, so no evaporation of the water in a tomato, I found it edible but boring, a good tomato, sliced and the juice reduced, would have been much nicer. The garlic/butter sauce was great. Breakfast was great, all hot (surprisingly unusual), beans in a pot, so no contamination of the nice, runny, egg yolk 😀. Sausages and black pudding were excellent. The bacon was the only let down, the fat slightly burnt rather than rendered, the meat dry as no rendered fat soaked in. To be fair, this seems to be a common issue with back bacon, that most people seem to prefer. I’d rather have good, thick cut, streaky. The toast was lovely, the butter better than most, very tasty.

My husband booked The Saddle Room for Valentines night as he knows it is one of my favourite places to eat. What a lovely surprise we both had when we arrived. The whole restaurant was decorated in a Valentines theme with beautiful red heart balloons and red bunting, even silk rose petals on all the tables. The food was delicious with the choice of special dishes themed special for the day. The staff were all very friendly and efficient, and I would like to give the kitchen staff a special mention as they work very hard behind the scenes producing high quality food for reasonable prices. What is particularly good is that you have the choice of pub grub prices or slightly higher prices for extra special dinners. Great venue, great food, great location!

Popped in for lunch, had the scallops and fish pie and everything was cooked perfectly, not to mention the portion size. The staff were welcoming and lovely couldn’t do enough. Would highly recommend. We will most definitely be back 5*****

The most amazing Sunday lunch. Best in the area in my opinion. So much food, probably shouldn't have ordered a starter!

My recent dining experience at this restaurant left me with conflicting impressions. The culinary offerings were undoubtedly delightful, leaving a positive taste lingering. However, my enjoyment was overshadowed by the below-average service, notably due to the male waiter’s disinterest and attitude. Adding to my concerns was the unfortunate choice of naming for the disabled toilets as “non runner.” This term, in my view, is not only derogatory but also discriminatory towards disabled individuals. It’s disheartening to encounter such lack of awareness, as I had hoped we had moved beyond using terms that can be perceived as offensive. I believe addressing this issue is crucial for fostering a more inclusive and respectful environment for all.

My burger took about 30 minutes but worth the wait, service was great.

First visit to The Saddle Room. The setting is perfect, the staff were wonderful and most importantly the food was scrumptious. Very impressed and will be back.xx

Fantastic food, lovely staff and dog friendly

We recently visited the Saddle room restaurant for our wedding anniversary and enjoyed a superb meal complete with fantastic service from the staff. We will be back, I can not recommended this place highly enough. Well done all.

An absolute outstanding place to experience from start to finish. Everything about the experience here for dining leaves you wanting more, but due to size of portions you can’t 😊. Brought a customer up for Sunday lunch after an 80 mile drive and there words were “well worth the 160 mile round trip thank you for inviting us to this little gem. We will be back “ so much so they’ve booked to stay as well with family. Can’t recommend enough 5🌟

We stayed here last night, we enjoyed the day having lunch and a wine in the beautiful courtyard, it was the perfect setting. We also had a meal in the evening the steak was amazing, the dessert was exquisite. The presentation of the food even the breakfast, had the wow factor. It was a hot day and the Aircon in the room was an added bonus, the room was equipped with everything you needed for a comfortable stay. The staff were really polite and welcoming, they made you feel at home. We've stayed at many places across the country and this has to be the best. We will definitely be back again. Great relaxing atmosphere, welcoming and great food! We couldn't fault a thing.

Amazing food. The steak was superb and the breakfast was great too. Lunch was tasty in the court yard .Had a great stay in a air-conditioned room. Many thanks to all the staff for been so welcoming and helpful, we will definitely be returning soon.

Meh. Amazing setting- albeit very touristy as it’s next to a large tourist attraction (hence lots of parking). Starters were excellent. Sunday lunch was OK, Yorkshire puddings left out too long, vegetables slightly overcooked. Potatoes dry. Nothing major other than one of my guests got a rash from the bathroom soap. Not terrible but there are better (and cheaper) pubs in the area. No idea how the reviews are so high.

We had dinner here me and my wife, for a very special occasion and one of the waitresses Casey!!! Was so rude! We had only just come in sat down? 5 minutes before our table and after looking through the menu and me going to the toilet, she told us to hurry up and order!!! Despicable!! She said that we’d been here for 15 minutes and haven’t ordered food yet in a disgraceful manner. Horrible woman… Would not recommend going here while she is. It’s not that hard to be nice. Food was decent, but pricey.

Lunch 03.08.23. The food was really delicious, perfectly cooked and presented. We had oysters, scotch egg, and steaks. Unfortunately the service let the whole experience down. Firstly the welcome was cold and not particularly welcoming. The young lady didn’t seem like she wanted to be there and did not give off a friendly vibe. Asked two staff what the fish of the day was & neither of them knew. They found out and we ordered it later and were told it was another fish altogether. Feedback - waiting staff could be briefed on these dishes at start of shift & then they write it down in case they forget. We ordered a bottle of fizz with the bar manager. He wasn’t knowledgeable about his menu which was a bit surprising considering he said he was the bar manager. When the barman brought the bottle, one of glasses was dirty so we politely asked for a clean one. The barman said nothing at all, not least an apology, just walked off (possibly stropped off) and then reappeared a bit later with a clean glass. He did not say another word, finished opening the bottle and plonked it into the ice bucket without pouring it. It did seem a bit passive aggressive. There was no napkin to hold the bottle and prevent it dripping everywhere. These two members of staff had no interest in delivering any kind of decent service. We wouldn’t recommend or return because of the poor customer service which is a real shame as the food was of a great standard.

It's a lovely quiet place but the food is fantastic and the staff were very accommodating considering we arrived just before the lunch service closed! (Thanks for still serving us) Their dairy & gluten free menu is actually pretty extensive which was great for us too!

Lamb flatbread 8.5/10, duck main 9/10,pavlova and choc pave 10/10,10/10 the space is a lovely place to eat ,fresh and quirky and I would strongly recommend this restaurant to everybody.

Gorgeous restaurant and the food was really nice. Not no over priced. They was a wedding on so it was quite busy but still the service was excellent. We only had the fish and chips it was lovely and fresh and only £10.00 would definitely recommend.big thank you to the chef and team

What can you say about this place?! Amazing setting, great food and drink selection and above all, THE STAFF are perfect. Couldn’t find a mark down if I tried. They all need a raise and are a credit to this business! Cannot wait to come back.

Great lunch on Easter Sunday. The starters and main courses were very generous leaving very little room for dessert ( I still found myself having one ! )

The Food, atmosphere and staff couldn't be faulted. Lovely feeling and great food although I personally think it's slightly overpriced.

We’ve enjoyed a number of meals at the Saddle Room, and today was our first disappointment. Although my fish was lovely and moist, the batter was soft and doughy instead of crisp, and the chips were pale and soggy outside and undercooked inside. My wife had the burger (very good), but the same undercooked chips which she didn’t eat. Hopefully it was just an off day, and we’ll be going back to see.

Dropped by here for lunch - WOW wee . What a beautiful place . Last Friday when the snow fell really heavily it looked like a winter wonderland. Inside the restuarant itself had a roaring fire with beautiful stable booths The waitress superb 👌 Small fish and chips gorgeous, beef ciabatta scrummy, we can't wait to revisit for a night's stay .

I have just spent 2 nights in one of the B & B rooms, as well as stopping for christmas dinner with the family! It was amazing! Room nice, clean and comfortable! Food totally amazing and the staff could not be more helpful! We even had a delivery from Santa who left a very thoughtful stocking on my bedroom door! Wish I could have stopped longer and enjoyed the beautiful grounds! Highly recommended x PS breakfast yummy with loads of local products

Just what you want for a Sunday lunch! Our group had the lamb, beef and veggie nut roast and all of them were very tasty - lots of veg and huge Yorkshire puddings. Good choice of starters and puds too. Friendly staff and good prices. 👍

Have been helping my grandson rearrange his wedding after having to cancel another venue due to greed of owners. I must say, saddle room have been excellent in providing information, details and helping us arrange the wedding for next year. It’s nearly half the price of the previously booked venue! Lovely location, spectacular views from the grounds. Nice conversion from the original stables to accommodation and restaurant. The food was nice, but I would say a little overpriced. Service was good.

Visited the saddle rooms for Father’s Day lunch , there was 6 of us the restaurant was full and had a great atmosphere. We all throughly enjoyed everything the beef was served pink and was perfectly cooked plenty of hot vegetables and gravy to go with Tim the young guy who calved our meet was really cheerful and looked like he was enjoying his job and took time to have a few minutes chat Mia out young waitress was also lovely and Ian our Scottish bar server was also great all in all a perfect afternoon thank you to all the staff you are doing a great job 👏 will be definitely recommending you and will be back 👍

Really gorgeous food, well worth the price paid. They don't do pints of coke though, only bottles so very expensive for a pint equivalent. Beautiful surroundings , beautiful restaurant. Would recommend the Sunday lunch, booking is essential though.

Incredible 3 course Sunday dinner. The Goan Mackerel was superb and one of the best carvery meals I've ever had. The beef was incredible. I cannot wait to return!

Dined here for Sunday Lunch and couldn’t praise it highly enough! Just a superb 3 course lunch and all of it cooked to perfection. Outstanding stuff. Shame so many people dining there have few or zero table manners and cannot even hold a knife and fork correctly. You’re in a dining room, not a chimpanzees tea party!! Furthermore, knives NEVER go into mouths. Google table manners - you spend enough time at the table looking at your smartphones!

I have visited a couple of times for Sunday lunch with family. The food is amazing, the service is impeccable and the setting of the whole place is stunning! Definitely worth a visit!

We was here on the 17th of november till the 18th for my birthday .we had dinner the night of the 17th and it was delicious a fish starter then slow cooked belly pork .my husband had the warm Scotch egg followed by gammon my friend had same has me and her husband had twice baked cheese souffle followed by fish and chips.fabulous and breakfast was just as good and the Rooms were beautiful we will be back.

Exceptional sunday roast, very high quality, big portions of all the trimmings. Great value too, especially if going the three course option.

Restaurant was great! Food amazing. One let down we were 6 minutes late for breakfast due to the disabled room not being fit for purpose..., so called reception to ask for maybe a bacon sandwich due to my husband being terminally ill and he needs to eat. Told there were no chefs avaliable, go to check out 15 minutes later, kitchen in full swing with lots of chefs, such a let down

You would never expect a restaurant at the entrance to The Forbidden Corner to be this good. It has recently won a best family restaurant award, and that's not shorthand for children's food - it has a genuinely broad menu to suit most palates.

Beautiful Sunday lunch, maybe the best I've ever had.

Very nice food, shame there was a rowdy wedding party in, but not their fault. When we booked we stated that one of us had a seed allergy, unfortunately my burger bun came with seeds, but it was rectified without fuss. Otherwise would have been a 5.

Booked a couple of nights stay B&B plus an evening meal as we had tickets for The Forbidden Corner. What can I say? A fantastic experience all round. Room lovely, food exceptional and attraction amazing. Pleasantly surprised by the cost of food and drink - no over charging because you are miles from anywhere - and it was all good quality and locally sourced (I believe). We will definitely stay here again if we come back to the area. It would be daft not to!

Sunday lunch top class stayed in one of the cottages and was extremely happy as I was surprised by how high standard it was.

Brilliant rooms nice clean everything you need. Great customer service skills all approachable, went all out Friday night Saturday and Sunday morning.Food is great breakfast great would definitely stop here again. You guys went all out for Poppy and Danny's wedding massive thanks for everything.

This is an absolute gem of a restaurant!! We came and had a 3 course Sunday Lunch and we all had clear plates on every course! I have never managed to eat three courses before but the food was so delicious I had to find space in my tummy!!I had the Tomato and Roast Pepper soup, beef which is carved at your table and Brownie Sundae to finish and for the quality (beef literally melted in the mouth) the price was extremely good value for money!!The service was exceptional with the staff being professional, courteous and welcoming! And being horsey people we loved the decor!!! Will 100% be returning!!!

My daughter brought me here for my 50th birthday 🎂 the meal was lovely, the staff were very efficient and friendly. I even had a small bottle of prosecco as a gift . Keep up the good work.

I booked to stay and eat at the Saddle Room for my girlfriend's birthday. I specified in the booking it was a birthday meal and simply requested a table with a view or something. It was to both our delight that our table was adorned with a birthday balloon and a free mini bottle of prosecco. A very simple but truly appreciated touch. Also, the food was incredible and was honestly the best lamb I've ever tasted. Full English breakfast was also amazing. Accommodation was excellent . A very cosy room with a comfy bed, very modern shower and facilities.We would definitely stay again.

Amazing food in a wonderful setting with really friendly front of house staff.

We were visiting Forbidden Corner and thought we’d book in for some food. The food was excellent, delicious burgers (beef, chicken and halloumi & avocado) and the fish and chips were also highly recommended.The decor at the Stable Rooms venue itself is also fantastic, my daughter who’s an avid horse fan, loved sitting in an old stable whilst eating.We would definitely visit again.

So glad we booked a table to eat here after a visit to Forbidden Corner - it was the best Sunday lunch I have ever tasted or experienced, and we are a family of Sunday roast fans! If we hadn’t booked, we would have missed out as the place was full.The Sunday lunch though! The beef literally melted in the mouth, perfectly cooked green veg, immaculate roast potatoes and a wonderful Yorkshire pudding. Topped off with beautifully tasting gravy. All boxes ticked and then some.Of our party of 6, only 1 chose something apart from Sunday roast from the menu - my husband had the chicken burger. He has given the “best burger ever” accolade! The service was equally as immaculate, the place is clean, quirky and comfortable and we were all really impressed. We will make the effort to return as soon as possible - thank you to all! Amazing!

Stayed for two nights and ate in the restaurant on one of them. Accommodation is very good and it's nice to see quality workmanship when refurbished. Food was excellent at breakfast and dinner. Well worth the trip and we will definitely consider returning.

We arrived late due to an unexpected road closure, as did many others, yet the restaurant staff were understanding and kept out table. Really lovely and unusual setting and the staff were very polite and friendly. When asked about various dishes they were well informed and offered helpful advice and suggestions. Excellent meal and all dishes were beautifully cooked fresh to order.

We had a great lunch here yesterday (early June 2021). I had the steak ciabatta and it was perfectly cooked and very tasty. My wife had the halloumi and avocado burger which was apparently first class. Both of us enjoyed the chips. Very good service and a lovely setting.

Staying on site we booked a table. Beautiful place. Menu had something for everyone. Drinks selection excellent including Champagne by the glass. Food was excellent. Ambience spot on inside and out. Literally can't find fault.

Best food on our trip to yorkshire. Sunday roast was amazing and portion size was good. Turkish delight tart for pudding again amazing taste. Staff brilliant too. Cannot recommend this place highly enough with words. My wife is already planning to come back next year!

This was our second stay having visited in October. We were not disappointed, we enjoyed our stay just as much the second time around. Beautiful rooms. Superb breakfasts. Food in restaurant is fantastic. Staff are very friendly and helpful. The setting in Tupgill Park is incredibly beautiful.

What a fantastic place for Sunday Lunch. The food is of outstanding quality along with the excellent friendly service. Very reasonably priced for the stunning inside as if sitting in a stable setting. Adults and young children loved it. We have visited the Forbidden Corner many times but have never eaten here until we decided to visit just for Sunday Lunch. Don’t miss out. Even the weekday menu looked stunning. Thank you for the best meal we found having spent a week in the Dale’s on holiday.

Excellent Quality Sunday Lunch. We had 3 courses and very reasonably priced. Food was great portions for Adults and our younger children. This was by far one of the best Sunday lunches with meat carved at your table. The setting is a stable theme which we all loved as very comfortable and different. Staff were so helpful and friendly. This place is not to be missed even if you are not visiting the Forbidden Corner take time out to eat here. Well with the experience. Thank you to all the Staff xx
