Beautiful Sunday lunch. Gets very noisy when busy which is often. Bit overpriced for me to be a regular but can always guarantee nice food. Good range of drinks. No non alcoholic wine last time I asked though. Shame when having a steak as a non drinker.

We come here every month but unfortunately we’ve noticed the food isn’t what it used to be. We were also a little disappointed with the service this time - I have a dairy allergy and rather than offering alternatives I was just met with no you can’t have that, no you can’t have that. It would be so much better if there was a matrix that I could see to identify what I could have. I ended up with a plant based starter which was awful and just tasted of salt! Other family members said the Sunday dinner wasn’t as good as what it had been previously. Won’t be coming again.

Disappointing experience. Got put in a table of 3, that was placed very badly..little space around a busy section, so people constantly kep hitting back of wife's chair walking around the restautant. Got asked early on to get moved to an empty table of 4, but was told it was booked...but then only 3 people showed up. Manager didn't care.

A great spot for cosy drinks and comfort food too. Log fires and soft furniture to snuggle into, watch the vibe and numerous dog types (obviously all well behaved), whilst you enjoy craft beers, a roast or a special of the day. Friendly staff and a good local type atmosphere is enjoyed here. A really good menu is offered for the 'Bar/lounge' or in the dining room area, with some classic dishes and a few with a modern twist. We'll definitely be back again.

Sadly a really awful experience at this pub. We had expected good things as we have been here many times before and never had a bad experience. However we haven’t been here for about 18 months and booked with family and a group of friends for a Sunday lunch. Those of us who ordered the beef ended up being really unwell and I mean really unwell. I contacted the pub to let them know.. no response. I gave them another opportunity to respond by sending another email.. no response. We paid over £300 for the pleasure of 5 of our group ending up unwell and the pub didn’t even have the decency to contact us. I will never eat here again and sadly bad news travels!

Visited for the first time with family for Sunday lunch on 4th February 2024. Sadly the dining room was more like a crèche than a restaurant, and the noise was simply overbearing with music playing over the top of the din. I'm a great believer in teaching children to appreciate food, but not at that volume. Leaving the table meant a veritable obstacle course of high chairs and push chairs to negotiate. The beef was cooked pink as requested but the fat had to be cut away which for me spoilt an otherwise acceptable dish. If there is a next time, I won't choose a Sunday and will try the à la carte. I was expecting more from a restaurant with 2 AA rosettes and left disappointed.

I was looking forward to a nice meal here with my sister & brother in law who had driven from Chester. I arrived first , no one there to greet me so I went to the bar where I spoke to a young girl. She took me to our table with a variety of menus. There was an awful cold draught every time the entrance door opened, When my sister arrived a young chap came over , on a Friday afternoon on 22nd of December you would expect some sort of happy vibes, it was quite depressing,no music & miserable faces . I don't drink so asked the chap for a j20. They don't sell it so I chose a sparkling elderflower , no ice. A while later our drinks arrived, I had a glass to the brim of ice & elderflower tonic! It was bitter & not nice , it is more of a mixer drink. I expected a nice sweet presse . The menus had us quite confused with abbreviation letters on some dishes you didn't have a clue what they meant. Waited quite a while for our food. It was very nice when it did arrive. I was looking forward to dessert as I had opted for the two course menu which wasn't cheap. Sadly there was none left of the lemon posset , nothing else appealed . There was nothing chocolate on the menu which is a must at Christmas. Very disappointed so I just had a main course. The waiter was curt & a face like thunder. Having worked for thirty odd years in catering,a smiling happy attitude is what's required! I left feeling as if I had been an inconvenience & ripped off , the bill was £100 for three covers & needless to say we won't be going ever again.

I was really looking forward to a nice meal here with my sister & brother in who had travelled from Chester. What a miserable bunch of staff who didn’t know how to smile. A very confusing set of menus with abbreviations, you have no clue what they mean. The soufflé was really nice as was the main course. No lemon posset left & nothing chocolate offered for dessert which is an obvious menu essential at Christmas, they don’t seem to have a clue how to make a fine dining experience enjoyable. With the bill around £100 for three of us & I only had a main course we won’t be back!

Have been here on a few occasions now but I must say on this visit I was highly disappointed. We were situated right next to the toilets ( party of 12) so we could not be moved.... the stench from the toilets was awful, the strong smell of urine. The beef was inedible on two of the dishes. We asked for extra gravy which we had to ask twice for as it was forgotten. We asked for a drink that was forgotten. Poor service I'm afraid.

Service here was incredibly poor, nobody seemed to know what they were doing and everything took absolutely ages, our food somehow arrived a long time before our drinks so we had to ask about those. Food quality was substandard. The weird, solid block of potato with the fish had no obvious taste. Chips with 2 eggs, 8 ounce bacon (disappointing) & coleslaw (weird combination and odd, chemical taste) & also a separate portion of chips were bland, tasteless and very unkindly, broke a crown on one guest's tooth, when they bit on something hard included within a chip. With 1 pint of beer the bill was £42. Outrageous bill for what we were served.

I checked the website for the wine menu and they had one for £19 but on querying this with the waiter was told the website wine menu was out of date and that was the only NZ one they did and because the bottle was opened they couldn’t do anything about it - felt quite ripped off and it spoilt my lunch celebration tbh

Visiting the area for a wedding and checked google for a decent gastropub. Happy to find somewhere that had been recommended in the Michelin guide. Service was rushed due to kitchen closing soon and not very attentive after taking orders. Food was terrible. The pate we ordered was okay yet lacked any complexity and was more like a terrine. Pork belly had no fat and was dry. The ribeye had barely been cooked to rare however I had requested it to be medium rare. The steak was difficult to run a knife through. Salad was drenched in oil and mushrooms had an odd taste. We informed our server who was more than happy to have them remade or take them off the bill but at that point we just wanted to eat, pay up and leave. Could be a nice place with greater attention to detail both from foh and boh yet the food was reminiscent of Wetherspoons.

My family and I, (four adults and one child), ate here on Boxing Day, and we had high expectations as this is in the current Michelin Guide. The price was £38 per head for 3 courses. And it started off so well - the waitress was very pleasant and efficient, the starters arrived pretty quickly and they were delicious. It was then downhill all the way. The roast beef wasn't pink as ordered, more a dull grey, and what gravy there was had hidden under the Yorkshires. We ordered more, and it fairness it came out pretty quickly. The veg was okay, but overall the mains were quite bland, and no better than chain-restaurant Sunday lunches. I accidentally dropped my fork on the floor and asked for a new one. It never arrived, so I just took one from another table. We ordered more drinks, They never arrived, so my son went to the bar to order them. My wife asked for a glass of water but of course it never arrived. The creme brûlées' toppings were more concrete-hard toffee than crusty and caramelised, arguably the worst I've had. We asked for the bill, but like the fork and drinks it never arrived, so we paid at the till. No-one asked if we'd enjoyed our food, but I doubt they cared; the staff were clearly stressed, disorganised and, excluding the first waitress, weren't particular friendly. We didn't tip. We won't eat there again. Unfortunately this doesn't reflect well on the reputation of the Michelin Guide - there are many other independent pub-restaurants who offer similar-quality food and better service than the Ruddington Arms, and that is why I dropped the rating as low as two stars.
