The Royal Yew in Allerdale

Super hot inside and as soon as you walked in it was like a fog machine was on 🔥 super smokey, opening a window would of been helpful, because of the Heat and smoke it made me not want to finish my meal

Lovely rustic food with excellent portion sizes. We really enjoyed the atmosphere too, but really let down by the service.. I was close to giving this 3 stars. Half a hour wait to be asked for our order. An hour before we got the food. I had to go prompt for a dessert menu after another long wait and again get up and prompt for them to come and take our dessert menu. The attention to customers from the staff was pretty poor and put a bit of a dampener on our experience.

Had a great evening with our friends, Sharon (the manager)was outstanding along with the rest of the staff, food was excellent, 2 x cow pies, 1 x lasagne and 1 x game pot pie. Absolutely no complaints, will return again and wholly recommend

New to area and been looking for a great pub and eatery, and think we found it. Always a good a good sign when you arrive on a Friday night and place is packed with locals enjoying them selves. Beautiful unspoilt country pub Great cost decor Staff welcoming, friendly and attentive. Food amazing, well cooked and beautifully presented. Vince went for the cow pie 🥧, OMG 😱 Was quiet a portion, but made with care and love ❤️, the meat melted in the mouth 👅. Thank you for a lovely evening 🌝 think we found our happpy place .

Visited for the first time today with our two dogs.We were made to feel very welcome and so were our dogs.Food and service were excellent.would highly recommended and we will definitely return.

Stopped for a meal with colleagues on Wednesday last week. Food was good. Had the game pie, which was a nice change. Was a quiz on and had a nice friendly atmosphere. Proper pub.

Went to the royal yew to try their famous ‘cow pie’ after countless recommendations. Fair to say I’ll be back. Very good value for money and very friendly staff.

Top drawer cow pie. I am a huge eater and the full cow pie was too big for me (I did eat it all, but only because I am stubborn). Two of my friends each had the half a cow pie, and that was some pile of food itself. All of the menu looks superb and the staff are always really friendly. Give it a go, you'll enjoy it.

Best meal out, fantastic food choice with great service. We'll certainly be back, already thinking about what to have next time.

Went for Sunday Dinner. Food was excellent and one of the nicest Sunday Dinners we've had in a long while! Opens at 12 on the dot..so there were a few sitting waiting outside for the doors to open :)

This has probably been one of the nicest meals 4 of us have had recently. The starters are good, mains were delicious. It's pub style but it's nice pub food - not the same stuff you'll get in every other pub round here.

Stumbled upon The Royal Yew, great find & would encourage anyone to make the effort to go. Lovely experience, good food good service. Tables are well spaced & the staff very engaging. All added up to a great lunch at an unexpected venue. We’ll done all the staff.

Loved it here once over, was the best and were regulars but recently service slipping badly on multiple occasions. Sad to see but hope it gets to how it once was.

Lovely evening so decided to visit The Royal Ewe for a bite to eat as we hadn't been there for a while. Food was first class and excellent quality. Had fish sliders and brie wedges for starters. Burgers, Moving Mountains Vege burger with proper chips and pork for mains. Couldn't resist deserts which were sticky toffee pudding and cheesecake but unfortunately couldn't wait to eat long enough to take a photo. Service outstanding would definitely recommend for a great feed in relaxing surroundings.

Popped into the pub (yesterday) after a days walking, for one thing, The cow pie! We have been wanting to try this pie for a few years now. Wow, only had half a pie but the meat was cooked to perfection. Sorry to say, there was no room for dessert. Staff were real friendly too.

Very quaint, old inn with lots of little rooms. Lovely old original featured fire places and beams all in clean well laid out areas. Food is delicious, varied menu with good portions. All the staff are friendly and very attentive. Easy to book a table on line.

Nice pub but quite expensive at £5.80 for a pint of larger !!

Excellent. The type of food and service you expect but rarely get. That was half! A cow pie. In the pic. The service was efficient and unobtrusive. The food was restaurant quality. And presentation Excellent as well. And a calm ambiance. The waiting staff knowledgeable about the food. Highly recommended.

Went to the Yew to catch up with friends for dinner and a lovely little place. Word of warning - do not have starters (or maybe even lunch...) If you plan to have the half cow pie - it's a mighty portion of food, but very well made. Def worth a visit.

We frequent here for dinner dates and even though our table is booked for later in the evening, food and service is always excellent. I love that the specials are always changing and the menu changes with the season.

Top end pub food. Very easy to book table online, which is advisable as the price of fame is it is well attended. Staff are attentive and welcoming, the owner/manager Nick is engaging and attentive to delivering a good experience for all patrons. Both the presentation and quality of starter and main were equal to many good restaurants. A great experience at a reasonable cost, we highly recommend.

Interior was modern cottage chic but sympathetically designed as to not detract from the overall gorgeous history of the old cumbrian building.The staff we professional very friendly and menu choices extremely good for all meat and *NON MEAT EATERS LIKE ME at moment* was great selection of food options suitable whether back from a hike/bike or celebration of special date ( just let staff know). Dog friendly as well Food was delicious, well seasoned presented and matched the menu descriptions. My Butternut squash Wellington yummy, but peoples posh burgers looked just as delicious across on the other table! Good service great food Brilliant atmosphere also parking available across the road. The food was amazing, staff were great, friendly, helpful and polite. Parking was good and the place is situated in a quiet Lake District village. We will visit again when next in the Lakes.

We went there with our dog and it was amazing! Special shout-out to the staff that was impeccable and super friendly and accommodating! The food was very tasty and the portions big. We stayed outside and moved inside when it got a bit chilly and both places are very inviting and have a nice atmosphere. We will definitely be back when we visit again!

First visit to The Royal Yew. The staff were efficient and friendly. I had the Roast Turkey and my husband had the Beef Lasagne, both meals were absolutely gorgeous, the best pub chips we've had for a long time.. Best advice is to book, a definite to visit.

Friendly, quick service, great local beers and fantastic food at a reasonable price in a beautiful location. We stayed in Ullock so was about a mile walk along a quiet road or the footpath. I had the wild boar burger and would highly recommend. Also THE BEST onion rings I've ever had!!

I have eaten in many Michelin star restaurants, but The Royal Yew exceeded all these. The landlord welcomed us on arrival. Nothing was to much trouble. The portion sizes were fanominal yet they did not compromise on the quality. We were that impressed we went back the following night only to be impressed that much further. If I could give 10 stars I would. Excellent service & value for money.

Honestly it's amazingly delicious food, so it's understandably very busy. I've been a few times and will be going again! Curious mix of folk from elsewhere in the UK and local farmer types!
