First takeaway. Awful. Thai green curry No taste of coconut or green curry paste. Cauliflower other veg which don't belong in Thai curry. Worst green curry I ever had!! Pure waste of money .

Ordered a meal tonight and the noodles were so salty that it spoilt the entire dish … we couldn’t eat it .. a lot of money in the bin tonight … very disappointing…

Nicest freshest top quality Chinese in Glengormley/ Newtownabbey their satay chicken is outstanding & their special friend rice is packed with quality meat & Chicken.. their chips are big fat home made & their curry is delicious.. highly recommend!! Fast friendly service too .. thanks guys ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Downhill big time an a last time for me

Foods normally grand. Used this place years ago and went back for first time tonight- they never ever get your order right! Was given wrong sauce tonight and there’s been many times before they’ve gave the wrong dish and were left wondering what it is.

Just ok. Ordered for delivery which took over an hour. For one dish and a side I was charged £17. Delivery man short changed me and ran on. Salted chilli chicken was horrible, very soggy batter and chicken was like string. Hardly any onions/chillis in my dish. Curry was good

Been using this place around,25 years after the slop sent down tonight i wont b using again asked for a dish i get regular and its never been like this before rang and apparently its what i asked for ....nope striaght in bin will not b back very disappiinted after all these years

Salted chilli chicken unable to eat, talk about a kick, someone accidentally tipped a weeks worth of chilli in and didn’t want to waste it so just sold it anyway! I’ll try manage tho with my mashed up prawn crackers.

I had been searching for a Chinese restaurant that did a crispy chicken satay similar to one I loved years ago in the Wing Wah in Bangor. Found it in the Royal Thai..... delicious! Thanks to Kelly for being so friendly and giving me other recommendations on the menu. Worth the drive from Belfast, I will be back 😊

Batter on the chicken and prawns we're soggy and chips were soggy to :(... Asked for curry and got gravy... It's very expensive, don't think I'll eat out of here again.

I always feel underwhelmed when I visit here. This used to be my favourite Chinese but seems like it's not as good for me as it used to be. Would also say the price point is medium/high.

We use them all the time and enjoy what they provide. Their Thai content is underused but is well worth trying.

Ordered from here at 9pm and was told it would take around half an hour. Rang again when food still hadn't arrived after 10pm and was told there was no record of my order 😕 staff said they would send the food out then, but didn't want to take the risk of it not coming again.

Really wonderful and tasty restaurant! I was driving through Glengormley and decided to stop by for dinner. The service was incredibly attentive andI could tell the owners put a lot of love into the restaurant. It is comfy and homey while very clean and well done. The food was incredible. Crispy chicken, nicely stir fried chow mei, and wonderful beef and broccoli. Would highly recommend to anyone. Really well done.

Just had another great meal from Royal Thai, this time we had Com po special! Pre ordered and collected in ten mins! Lady on the phone was very pleasant and helpful ,meal was hot full of flavour and great value. Will use again!

I have been a fan of this establishment for many years, both when i lived near to it and when i moved away. Food is some of the best in the country. Staff very friendly and helpful. Pricing is excellent bang for buck This is my favourite take-away in Northern Ireland, bar none

Won’t be back. Had a carry out tonight and it wasn’t good and worse stiIl we only ordered 2 main courses and they got one wrong! Ordered beef with ginger and spring onion, got beef and mixed vegetables!!!!!!!!. Also the chicken Szechuan (hot) was not hot it was just a gloppy mess. Added to that the girl taking the orders coughing all over the place and not covering her mouth.

This is the farthest thing from authentic Thai food I’ve ever eaten. Do people here not know what Thai food is!?

Once you get past that this is really a Chinese restaurant rather than a Thai restaurant, you can start to appreciate the food as just amazingly delicious food. Every dish we've ever had from here is amazing. We've never had any trouble with the food hygiene or staff, they've always been extremely friendly. Shame they're only doing takeaway now, really hope they re-open for dinner as their food is the best around.

For a Chinese sit in and takeaway that was the best in Newtownabbey 5 years ago it has fairly went downhill. Says alot that the restaurant has closed which is a pity but even the deliveries, curry is like water and tasteless, even chicken satay is already cooked chicken and reheated with an un cooked Satay sauce which is just pasted on and uneateable. As a good customer this place will close down very shortly.

Sadly my much loved royal Thai has now closed. But their takeaway is still open serving a reduced menu but my fav "duck with seafood and wine sauce" is still there Food can be excellent, good or just average. Pet hate. Pre cooked prawn crackers

Was sad to see the restaurant closing, but thankfully they have kept the takeaway open. Great menu and haven't had a poor meal of it yet.

Best honey chilli chicken and curry around! Have been getting take outs from the Royal Thai on and off for years! Glad I've moved closer to the area now so I can get it more regularly.

El menú era dividido en platos tailandeses y chinos, así que mi marido y yo pedimos platos tailandeses. Cuando llegó, quedó claro que la "publicidad" era falso, tailandés fue básicamente comida china. El personal parecía lo suficientemente amable, pero el servicio era lento. Mi marido ni siquiera comer su plato y todavía estaba cobrando a pesar de expresar su insatisfacción. Se le ofreció un nuevo plato, pero era demasiado tarde. En general, fue una gran decepción para nosotros.

Just got home with a hot chicken soup and green Thai chicken curry with rice and chips. Chips were grand but apart from that we had raw chicken in the curry. Pity I can't upload photos to illustrate how bad this was. It was like eating warm phlegm with chilli. Rang the lady on the desk and I've been added to the wall for a free main and side. Sounds like it's a bit of the norm.

Take away service awful. Got order wrong and waited for another hour and 1/2 for them to rediliver.

Always a pleasure going in for a bite of lunch and a take away for dinner. Very clean and tidy. Staff are very welcoming and pleasant. Good is always very good.

Visited last night (06.10.16) with my friend both of us having blonde hair. Halfway through our meal my friend found a long black hair on her plate well soaked into the sauce, so could only have came from a member of kitchen staff. When I brought the staffs attention to it they basically called us liars said that there staff had short brown hair and it couldn't have came from their kitchen and proceeded to charge us for the full meal. My friend barely made it to the car when she vomited thinking of what had just been served to her. Customer service a disgrace and hygiene of a very low standard. Will not be back!!

Hubby and I went as a treat for our wedding anniversary. It has been a long time since we had visited the Royal Thai. Have to say decor much improved. We shared a deluxe Chinese platter and have to say very pleased. We then both had mains. Mine was salt and chilli chicken which was good but hubby had chicken satay which was absolutely delicious. So much so I wished I had ordered the same. Staff were extremely attentive so all in all great food and great customer service.

Royal Thai has been around for quite some time now and the place really could do with a bit of a spruce up as it badly needs it.Menus are quite extensive with a good choice but our experience has always been that it can be very hit and miss here.My husband enjoyed the chicken satay and that is one thing that does seem to be more consistent than most of the other dishes we have tried.Room for improvement,

Had a Massaman Chicken Curry and my partner had Holy Basil Lamb. He said his was ok - the flavours were delicious but the meat was not great. My Massaman sauce was delicious however the chicken used was cheap nasty processed chicken that had a really odd texture. After eating a few pieces of the meat I picked out the vegetables and had them with the sauce on my rice. I wasn't asked about the fact that I had left most of my meat when the table was cleared. It is not the first time I have been to a Thai/Chinese where cheap chicken is used - I wish these places would just charge a few pounds more and serve proper unprocessed meat. It's a shame because this will stop me going back - even though the sauces were delicious. If I ever had to eat there again - it would only be for vegetarian dishes.

We enjoyed an absolutely delicious meal here, the duck with mango sauce was superb! The restaurant is beautiful and the atmosphere is lovely, we definitely plan to go back! Such great value.

We called up here as our normal choice was closed for holidays and last night was now our 5th visit. Great food , lovely staff and a nice atmosphere. We have tried different dishes each time and have not been disappointed once. Definatley will be back again

We called in at teatime last night. It was my first visit and I enjoyed it. There is a decent two course high tea menu with plenty of choice, at a reasonable price. The food was good and the portions were more than adequate. The waiter was very friendly and I loved the background music, not what I expected - Michael Jackson, The Bee Gees, Louis Armstrong LOL. We plan to go back.

This Chinese is my granny's favourite so when she wants it we always order from here. For the price paid, the portions are quite small compared to other chineses around the area. The food was very nice, especially the chicken curry.

This place is an institution, it's been around a long time and with good reason. I've been coming here on and off for 20 years and never had a bad meal. It's a case of substance over style here - not a fancy place but the food is good and on last night's visit I would say the service was the best I've ever experienced here. Really friendly and helpful. It deserves local support and I for one will be glad to keep visiting!

Popped in here for a bit of Thai. Ok - the decor etc. may be looking a little tired in places but the welcome couldn't have been friendlier or warmer. Like many Thai restaurants the options are there to chose between Thai or Chinese cuisine. We opted for the Thai specialities rather than the normal thai curries/sauces with the option of choosing which animal proteins etc. The starters were actually delicious and substantial (lucky we were quite hungry) - served expeditiously and piping hot. Our main courses arrived soon after we had completed the starters. There was enough fresh coriander and holy basil to give one of the dishes a Thai complexion but it felt more typically sezchuan than Thai. Having said this it was quite delicious. The lamb was well-prepared, tender and succulent (chinese style) and the vegetables were delicious. I am not a great fan of huge chunks of pepper and tasteless mushroom which can accompany a few chinese stir fry preparations and here we had the opposite - beautifully prepared and cooked (imo to perfection) local mushrooms, slivers of pepper, baby sweetcorn and celery - fresh chillis all combined and cooked flavoured with basil and topped with fresh coriander etc. The other half likes duck (and I cook it regularly) - duck breast and mango in a sweet hot and sour sauce. Lots of rice and sizeablle portions. We had a thoroughly enjoyable meal - and reasonably priced. Staff were friendly and attentive and while we were the first in the restaurant in the evening, more people soon joined us. We may not have had a fully Thai experience but the fusion was certainly worth it. Will certainly visit again when we have the opportunity. A very pleasant visit.

Love this place. Usually get a carryout/delivery. The food is the best chinese by far. I think the chef changed previously and we weren't as happy with the food (it was still good but not as nice as it used to be). It closed down for a few weeks and has now re-opened with a new chef. The food is back to what it used to be and it is delicious. Recently had salted chilli chicken (favourite), roast duck and pork so chow, Satay beef. Even the chips are delish. Portions are also amazing.

We went here on Boxing Night.I was amazed at how grubby the place was for a start.The toilet was a disgrace. Dirty and no toilet roll.The waiter didn't have a clue about half of the dishes.I was served the wrong main course, my friend was served the wrong starter and of course the waiting time for our proper dishes with everyone else ready to go was a right PITA!This is NOT a Thai restaurant. It is fraudulent to call it that. This is a standard chinese restaurant that puts has a few thai additions. Whether those are cooked from scratch or from a jar I'm not sure.I can make better myself. I love Thai food and go to PROPER Thai restaurants frequently and the dishes are much better than what is offered here.As I said though... as a Chinese takeaway.. it is pretty good.

Not having been back here for sometime, decided to give it another go after a rushed Valentines night rushed meal numerous years previous. Waiters were pleasant and courteous but the meal was less so. Starter of spicy mushrooms was what it says and thats it with a bit of tomato.Main course of red curry was disgusting and partner had tasteless chow mein. There was only four people in the restaurant so not run off their feet. Be another few years before another return.

The food was pretty decent. Certainly not the best Thai meal I've ever had, but it was tasty enough. And the prices were reasonable. But blimey this place is seriously rough around the edges. For example:- very ropey service. We were a group of five, each ordering a starter and main. So that's a total of ten dishes. Of those ten dishes, they managed to deliver one wrong starter and one wrong main course. So if you order something, you've got an 80% chance of getting what you order. I'd say that's pretty poor. - A few of our party ordered spring rolls as starters. They were duly served, but unlike most places, they didn't bother to serve these with any dips - you would at least expect to be served soy sauce as a dipping sauce. So dips had to be requested. When these showed up, one was soy sauce and the other was a sweet chilli sauce...the chilli sauce was definitely straight out of a bottle. Talking of which, the satay sauce tasted suspiciously like it came out of a bottle too, which isn't very good for a Thai restaurant. - plates, cutlery, etc, all looked like they'd seen much better days. Dips were served in a variety of different containers. Decor was odd...the fish-pool was nice, and the general layout of the restaurant was good, but the place felt very neglected overall. - The button operating the toilet flush was missing, replaced by some masking tape. The masking tape which had obviously been there for a while, as it had peeled off exposing the mechanism behind where the button used to be. Oh yes and no toilet roll. So all in all, whilst the food is good enough, the restaurant needs a bit of an overhaul in terms of service, decor and general presentation. Best off to stick to the takeaway.

My favourite chinese ever! i agree it is very dear but it really is worth it! beautiful atmosphere inside! when ordering delivery it can take very long but thats just because its a popular & busy place.

Brilliant restaurant. We are regular visitors to this restaurant over many years and we have never had a disappointing or poor meal. This is our all time favourite Chinese. The food is great and the staff are always welcoming and friendly.

WE love the Royal Thai. Delivery or collect, the food's great and makes a special occasion of a carry out. Not cheap for a carry out but worth every penny. We've had friends round and had a carry out for dinner and no-one's disappointed. Special favourites are beef massaman and mango chicken but the truth is that there's nothing on the extensive menu that you would send back.

I took my wife here for some very good, authentic Thai food in Glengormley. There are not many Thai restaurants but this is superb. Portion sizes very generous and reasonably priced.

First of all, I cant fault the food, we had lunch here last Monday, my husband, grown up son and myself.The staff were smiley and efficient, food was served quickly, and was hot and tasty. we all ended up with honey chilli chicken, and at £5.50 for lunchtime menu was really good value.having said that, the sun was shining in the window, and I started to notice that the restaurant wasnt the cleanest! there were spider webs and dust all over the window sills beside us, and the velvet chairs were pretty manky! once you notice this you cant help but look round, and the tables and wooden furniture is scuffed and in poor condition. When the public areas are so poorly looked after one wonders at the state of the kitchen, however it could well be fine, and the food was lovely. if the restaurant had been in a better condition I would have given 4 stars, but dont feel keen to go back as it is now.

I got a takeaway from here a few weeks ago and I can honestly say it was the worst chinese I've had in a long time. Was my first visit here and I won't be back. The chips were overcooked, brown and cheap tasting, the 'veg' in the noodles was limp, tasteless and looked like it came from a cheap freezer bag. The sauce was fluorescent bright orange and the most artificially coloured goop I've ever seen. I ate about 5 chips and the whole lot went in the bin. It amazes me what some takeaways think is acceptable to sell to customers. I should have been paid to eat it, not the other way round. So disappointed.

Wife and I needed some food on a Sunday afternoon - no point going home in the time we had. On the way in, we saw the board placed at the door saying "Sunday lunch. 3 courses - £9.50. 2pm - 4.30pm" It was just exactly 4.30, so we asked if we were still in time for it. I heard someone call 'no' from the kitchen but I then remarked to my wife that I couldn't eat 3 courses anyway. We were shown to a table and given a standard lunch menu and the large leather a la carte. Inside the a la carte was a 'Mother's Day special - 3 courses for £13.90' but the main course on the lunch menu was only £5.90, so we decided that would do us.(The chairs and decor in the place are a bit grubby and tired looking but not unclean).My wife asked about gluten-free options. The waiter believed the only one on the lunch menu was the honey chilli chicken, but that was fine since she likes that. He checked, confirmed, and the manager confirmed again it was the only one when she brought the meals. Had we used the a la carte, I am sure more would be available since Thai curries are always gluten-free (This restaurant serves Thai AND Chinese). I ordered the Massaman Curry.The food was fine, except that my wife's was a little bit vinegary but not so much as to kill it. Mine could've been hotter but again, not so cold I couldn't enjoy it. Good enough portions. Then a young waitress offered us desserts, tea, coffee, saying they were free! We asked why, to be sure, and she said that we were ordering the Mother's day special. We assured her we had just ordered two mains from the standard lunch menu.On the way out, the manager presented us with a bill for £26! The charge for the mains was £7.80 + £2.50 for rice, each! I said that we had ordered from the standard lunch menu and she said "no you ask for special when you came in and then you not take that. I have to charge you full price for meals!" and showed us the 'special' menu. We simply said that the waiter had given us the other menu, and she retorted "he just stupid" then got fairly irate, saying that we got full portions, not the smaller lunch portions we would have got for £5.90 and couldn't charge us any less. When I pointed out that the mistake was not on our part she then said that we must be stupid too since that menu clearly says (in tiny print at the top) '12-2pm'. Again, I said that it was the menu given to us, and the one from which we ordered, and the waiter had looked at it with us, and taken our choices... she said best she could do was to take £1 off the bill!!I said that we would've owed £17.40 for the two courses and two drinks, and offered her a £20 note, saying that I would have tipped anyway, but my wife was so annoyed at her by then that she demanded the change. The woman then started yelling "in ten year I never had customer like this, you ridiculous!" and threw the change towards me in the bar dish, "OKAY, but you no ever come back here again!!" My wife said that we had no intention of coming back while the queen of hellfire started repeating the same about us being 'worst customer in ten year' to a customer behind us. As we walked out, she shouted 'B***h!' at my wife.'Nuff said.

For years this was the best in the area , no longer. Order a delivery and you can be sure its cold and soggy before its delivered. No use wasting further words describing the food. its like an Iceland ready made dinner heated cooled and reheated need to get your act together as there is a lot of good competition out there

The royal Thai always gives the best value for money genuine food all you could ask for the building and the staff are very welcoming and the food and service is great

This Chinese has to be the best in this area. We have been to the restaurant a few times and always come away satisfied. Good selection on menu. Staff very good with children. Im sure we will be back soon.

The royal Thai is a favorite of mine and anyone else I've taken there!! The only problem I ever have is it can be cold but they always try to put you beside a radiator. A few of the girls dont even need to write your order down and always remember us when we come in. Brilliant service and the food is always delicious, warm, well prepared and plates cleared as best we can :)

Nicest thing about the Thai is their chicken satay. HATE the fact their main meals do not include a side which makes it quite expensive. Delivery is also very slow.

Unfortunately this little place has gone down dramatically, I would not eat there again. Cleanliness not the best, same staff for years and food takes ages to come and not worth waiting for, sorry used to be really great.....

This has been a favourite haunt of ours for many years but after the last few visits unfortunately we would be reluctant to return :-( The royal thai food has lost the taste and wow factor it used to have and is now served on cold plates - our meal was tepid but we were to hungry to complain!!! We were served by a young guy who was still wearing his coat! I The food is also overpriced for what you are served and we discovered that you have to buy rice as sides with certain dishes. We also thought £4.00 corkage was quite excessive as there are places nearby that don't charge. No atmosphere at all!!!! They are really going to have to up their game to get a good name again but as I mentioned before we won't be back. Sorry Royal Thai I certainly won't be recommending you as we used to before.

Went to the royal thia to nite for a family birthday meal, the food was excellent but the service was not good, we were a table of 7 adults and3 children, we were given 3 different menus, the main menu, the high tea menu and the menu for kids, if you ordered the high tea menu you were served first and everone else then had to wait at least 10 mins before they got served, including children........ if you booked as a group, you should be served as a group at the same time!!!

Whao What can I say , this place just gets better with each visit albeit sporadic . Chinese feast for 3 - superb Starters - plentiful prawn toast , ribs, chicken , spring rolls Followed byChicken n sweet corn soup Mains 4 dishes , seafood n meat odd combo but tasty, prawn n chilli chicken lovely , meat dish just ok and a fab spicy sweet n sour type dish . All with fried rice and a few beers . First class service , well done Lovely - will return Keep up the good work

It's very hard to find a great Chinese in Newtownabbey. This is slightly above average and a little overpriced. One thing I will say is that recently we got a curry which was exceptionally hot. We phoned to complain and they gave us two free meals to replace it. Now that's good service.

Ordered take away from here. We got honey chilli chicken, sweet & sour chicken, bith with fried rice, chips, noodle/rice half&half, portion of curry and a bottle of coke. This totalled £27!!! The rice does not come with mains... they charge extra for that! The rice & curry was nice, but the noodles were greasy, the sweet & sour chicken was more like vinegar chicken and got a mingy amount of prawn ctackers with the order. Never again will we ordrr from this place or sit in for that matter. Not happy at all.

I recently got a delivery out of this place. When it arrived to my door it was the wrong order and freezing cold at rip off prices. I then phoned to which the women hung up on me when i was telling her i was not happy. I do not reconmend this to anyone.
