The Royal Elephant Restaurant in Rotherham

We had a midweek carvery that was great value highly recommended.

A fantastic place to eat and excellent customer service. The food was great and plentiful. One of our party has a food allergy and the owner was exceptionally dilligent about making sure no allergens were present in our meal, even suggesting an alternative to one of the dishes in the set meal that would have otherwise contained peanuts. We came at a time that was not busy, hence the four stars on atmosphere.

THE WORST MEAL THAT I HAVE HAD FOR AS LONG AS I CAN REMEMBERI had the Thai Red Curry and the chicken was atrocious, far too tough, in too big a piece and tasted of nothing. I left at least 2/3rds of it. I complained to the waitress, she said nothing,I complained again when I came to pay.She took all my money for it and never apologised.I shall never go agin.Avoid like the plague.

This was the first time that I had been to this restaurant. We were a group of 10 students of Spanish, celebrating the end of the Christmas term. We chose the Christmas menu , with 3 courses which were reasonably priced. We did not have to preorder but the food choices arrived in good time. All of us then chose to have the carvery and since some guests had more limited mobility, the staff, after consultation, brought their meals to the table. There was a variety of meat, vegetables, stuffing and Yorkshire pudding, together with gravy. The desserts were of a similar standard, with the salted caramel cheesecake being particularly delicious. Something else that was noteworthy was that,unbeknown to me, the catch on my necklace had become loose whilst we were in the bar area before the meal. A member of staff had noticed the necklace on the floor and it was swiftly returned to me.

Lovely Thai food, nice relaxing place and the most friendly people you could meet. It's lovely and quiet for us as we don't like it loud and noisy. Also a carvery option.

Incredible food and service. Can't fault anything and the menu is well presented and there's lots of choice. Would definitely recommend!

We chose the buffet rather than menu, and were not disappointed. There was plenty of choice of starters and mains & all were delicious. The meat was so tender & flavours really good. Staff were all very helpful and friendly. We would definitely visit again.

The nicest carvery! So many vegetables to choose from and 4 different meats all cooked to perfection. The sausage gravy is delicious. If you have space for dessert, their apple pie is soft and sweet and finishes the meal off nicely. The staff are all friendly and super efficient. Definitely worth the visit!

The food was amazing and there was such a variety to have …. we were really pleased as it was the first time we had been there and you are always abit wery when you try somewhere else…. but have to say we will definitely be going back again and the staff were very pleasant and on hand to offer there services…. Our new favourite destination for Sunday lunch. Everything was perfectly cooked, but the gravy OMG. I could have had a bowl and drunk it like soup. Sssoooo delicious 😋. I can't wait for the Thai chef to return from Thailand and try the Thai menu.

Attended a home instead friendship lunch,,the food and service was excellent, will visit again.

Helpful staff but alcohol is expensive. Carvery brilliant but not so good for beverages.

Went for a meal tonight the starters and main meal were well presented and delicious. Staff were freindly and attentive had a nice evening meal and drinks for a reasonable £43 would go again without hesitation.

Meal was nice,but could do with bigger plates. The stuffing could be better. Excellent service very welcoming. The guy serving the meat looked like he didn't want to part with it very small slices.

Hi been out local restaurants the royal elephant for nice meal but bit let down then has the place was very cold I had keep.waitcoat then to eat meal then but food was very good tempura prawn was outstanding them plus main sweet sour seafood was outstanding to then but felt that sweet let meal down big sweet are very bull boring then and no are not home made then cheap.then and did like coffee to for what pay sweet coffee think big let put off going back for good long time then plus is a restaurant near to royal elephant the sweet out this world then and the coffee is good then plus place not got good atmosphere then miss v Twibell🎅🤶🎄🎁

Sunday Carvery, good selection of meats and vegetables. Very busy at dinner time, but quite quick service. Definitely worth a visit.

have been attendinf for many years with retired ambulance persons we tried establishments all round south yorkshire than settled on royal elephant foofd was exceptional the only food served by staff was when they carved the meat you had choice of two from 3 meats and amount was very good always asked if that was enough there was about 6 or 7 vedge self service always hot 3 types of potatoes multiple sauces 2 gravy you could have as much as you liked the staff were very friendly and attentive to clients and would go out of their way if some one needed somthing i can only think any bad reviews were from people from other establishments or plants from them

We had thai food. Always love eating here it's a beautiful setting with gorgeous Thai cuisine and the staff are all so attentive and friendly. The food never disappoints, great bar choices too. It's never really busy so a lovely place to come. Highly recommend.

Come here with my elderly mum 94 most weekends for Sunday lunch, lovely staff and good choice carvery

This is a recent place have tried for a Sunday carvery. Both times it has been delicious and hot. The meat was tender and really enjoyed the meal.The carvery has a choice of 3 meats and a great selection of vegetables. Staff are friendly. For the staff to improve their service it would be nice to be asked if everything ok with your meal once eating, and also ask if need more drinks.

We went this afternoon, very busy but although we booked which is essential, we were about 15 minutes waiting for the table. The food as always is excellent. The Yorkshire puddings not as good as Toby but there the comparison ends. Personally sprouts swede mushrooms and onions extra to all the usual veg makes the royal elephant 🐘 stand out from the others. One star missing because I just want the onions more tender and caramelized.

The carvery at the royal Elephant is the best lhave had in any restaurant fresh meat and a choice vegetables to die for really recommeds this restaurant you will not be disappointed

We love coming here for a Carvery.It tastes amazing and so does the lemon cheesecake!Amazing staff aswell who can't do enough for you whilst there😊

Worst meal ever. Everything was over salted. I like salt but that was like eating a salt mine.

Beautiful carvery food very tasty and good value for money. Always enjoyed our visits to eat here. Closed on Mondays. A large restaurant very spacious ..tables are not too close together. The Staff are very friendly and helpful. Toilets are clean and accessible. The bar area is lovely too. Parking is available just outside but can be a little tight and can be a blind spot coming out of car park on the bend in the road. Definately worth a visit.

Wow just wow celebrated my Daughters 30th Birthday here on Christmas Eve. Been before and had carvery which is brilliant. But last night it was Thai menu. We all had a little taste of all the different foods on the table everything was amazing. The lady that served us was attentive and brilliant. Can’t praise it enough. Was an amazing night Thank you to you all.

Amazing quality food. I love how the staff can't do enough for you and explain what ingredients are in each dish if you ask them. There really knowledgeable and nothings to much trouble for them. Just amazing

Very slow service and luke warm carvery. The server didn't seem to want to part with the meat very easily. Seems family run and they tend to look after their regulars and anyone else gets what they get! Won't bother again, there are better places to dine.

Paying. Nearly £10. Chef cuts meat that thinly you can see through it appalling the amount given if you are vegetarian it will be alright for you Ordered sticky toffee pudding custard came cold For £3.75 think twice before going to this restaurant for a Sunday Carvery.

If you haven't eaten here before or not been for a while, you must go! Nice family run business with friendly staff. Great selection of Thai food at a reasonable price. Nice touch of prawn crackers whilst you wait for your food to be cooked.

2day we went to royal elephant 4 lunch it was really lovely the carvary was so good we even had a pudding the prices are good one of the staff carried my plate to the table

After not seeing our family for 19 months we asked where they would like to go? the response was overwhelming, Let's go to the Thai. Royal Elephant. We had a wonderful reception from the staff and felt totally at ease with the precautions the restaurant had set in place. The food was as always superb. Great meal and safe. We all enjoyed our chance to get together again.

I love the choice of meat and vegetables in the carvery but please if anyone from the royal elephant is reading this , braised onions should be cooked in an oven not in water, you used to do this but then you started doing them in water , undercooked and bland. Just a small gripe, otherwise I would give 5 stars

We have just had two beautiful carveys, from The Royal Elephant ....the meat was beaut, 6 veg, mash swede, Parsnips, roast pots, Brussel , Yorkshire puds stuffing ball.. rich onion gravy .. we got so much there’s enough left for tomorrow;)) the staff are so lovely & friendly ...

Loved this Sunday roast dinner. Great selection of vegetables cooked to perfection. Portion sizes are large too. We will definitely be returning! Collection of our order took less than 30 seconds with our meals hot and ready for our arrival time.

Had an amazing birthday meal! The flavours was absolutely gorgeous. Presentation stunning! Staff couldn’t do more if you asked them to. Regarding social distancing, tables was nicely spread apart. My family of five felt safe the whole time we was there. Never disappointed when we come and they have adapted to the new COVID restrictions fantastically. Highly recommend.

The last time we ate out was before lockdown in March. The Royal Elephant is one of our favourite places, but we have been so apprehensive about eating out we have been put off trying. WELL we have now been to the Royal elephant three times in the last month and can honestly say that we have no hesitation in recommending it to you. They are complying with all of the government rules, hand sanitisers at the entrance plastic screens in front of the buffets all the staff wear masks etc. Highly recommend don’t be put off going, and there is currently 20% off the Thai evening menu. And the food is as amazing as ever

If you are a sugar addict, this place will get your approval! Unfortunately for me, I don't expect quite the amount of added sugar that the Royal Elephant's chef included in every dish. Everything that came with a sauce tasted like it had heaps of the stuff piled in. It was sweeter than a gummy plumber's milky tea! Some of the starters were obviously reheated (half a skewer of satay chicken was still cool!) but while I don't expect the kitchen to prepare everything freshly from scratch, however, once again, the starters' accompaniments are best suited to those with a sweet tooth. The other Thai flavours are still present, but as you might have guessed by now, they were overpowered by the excessive sweetness. Finally, I'd suggest you check the bill, because I was overcharged. I haven't tried the traditional English Sunday roast, so might give that a go, but I won't be back for the Thai food anytime soon.

Been here a few times now and it’s the best carvery I’ve had! The Thai food is really nice aswell, I’d defiantly recommend this place to anyone. Very friendly staff and management.

First time ordering from the restaurant today. The food was amazing. Fast delivery and very polite delivery lady. Highly recommend this restaurant and would definitely order from here again.

All sensible covid measures in place, friendly staff and good service, portion size good, food excellent quality, packed full of flavour
