The Royal in Gwynedd

Had three days in beautiful Abermaw (Barmouth) two of which ended up in The Royal. Its full of interest. Staff a very friendly and accommodating. Locals were also friendly, good fun. Drinks and food were very reasonable, in fact brilliant during happy hour. Just booked for another stay in Abermaw for late Spring Bank Holiday weekend. See you then.👍

Felt right at home! Was looking for something to eat on sunday, you will not be disappointed.

What a find! For a very reasonable price, we were really impressed by the facilities. Huge room, very comfortable and beautifully decorated. The bathroom had a huge shower and we loved the tiling. The room had nice toiletries, teas and coffees and other nice extras like a fridge and a tray for wet shoes or boots. The room was also very clean, dog friendly, but you would never know a dog had been in the room. We bought a dog and found the whole place very Dog friendly. Our room was above the bar, it was a Tuesday night so perhaps not very busy, but we weren't disturbed at all by noise. Breakfast was well cooked and tasty and we ate in the pub for an evening meal - again good pub food, for a reasonable price. All the staff we met were very friendly and accommodating. Finally, we loved Barmouth. A lovely beach, cute shops and fantastic views over the mountains. The hotel is located close to all the amenities and despite not having a car park, the car park we were advised to use was just a short walk away. Overall, a fantastic stay and we wish we'd had longer.

This place is surely due an award! It is excellent and you won’t leave disappointed! We booked for an overnight stay- a cheeky getaway with the doggo! Love Barmouth anyway but never stopped overnight in a hotel! We booked the royal as it was dog friendly! We read up before booking and we were aware that the rooms were above a very popular pub! On arrival we had to book in via the bar, it was busy, I was immediately drawn to the dog station just off from the bar, it had bowls and a water fountain and jar of treats for your dog! The girl checked us in very promptly and led us to our room! Wow we were so impressed, it completely exceeded our expectations! The room was immaculate, beautifully decorated and the attention to detail was especially impressive! Tucked away we found an iron, ironing board, fridge! Beautiful double shower, ample towel’s and toiletries and even a dog towel throws, dog bowls and treats! We also had a very generous array of tea, coffee hot chocolate and biscuit's! There is a private door to the side that you can use to enter and exit to avoid walking through the pub! There is absolutely nothing to disappoint! The breakfast is also to die for, we choose breakfast in bed! Such a treat! There was some noise from the live singer downstairs but this was minimal and did not go on late, we weren’t bothered at all and did not impact our enjoyment! This is truly a hidden gem , just fantastic! We would highly recommend and wouldn’t hesitate to book again! Thanks guys

Stayed here for three nights and could not fault it.The room was clean and well decorated and had plenty of tea and coffee plus biscuits. We also had a dog with us and they supplied dog bowls plus dog biscuits and towels to dry him off.The breakfast was plentiful and really tasty and the man who served us was really good and attentive. We will definitely be back.

From the moment we arrived, the staff at the royal ensured a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The extremely comfortable accommodation and impeccable housekeeping services exceeded my expectations. I was particularly impressed with how smoothly everything was organized with my wife’s(gwen) 50th birthday and the surprise transfer to room 8 ,and the friendly demeaner of all your team members in particular Paul. Stayed here this weekend with my partner and dog what can I say I was absolutely blown away. The staff were so helpful nothing was too much for them. We stayed in room 8 the room was absolutely beautiful with a four poster bed. The shower was amazing you had excellent quality tea coffee sugar and hot chocolate and even slippers left for you. The food was amazing restaurant quality the pie was one of the nicest I’ve eaten and so were the burgers. They even let you eat your meals in your room. The breakfast was also amazing this place is faultless I’ve stayed a few places in Barmouth but now I would only want to stay here and will definitely be back. Will definitely be back thank you to all at the royal

Stayed here with my partner in room 2 which is 1st floor. Spotless all over, comfy bed, great shower ( walk with me Tim would fit 4 people comfortably in there) Complementary tea coffee, milk, sugar, hot chocolate,water and soaps. Beautiful,white, fluffy towels provided. Iron, board hairdryer, safe, mini fridge and plenty of storage. The furniture is strong and stylish. Plenty of space. The staff are a range of ages that all work hard and are extremely friendly and welcoming. It seems well organised and the breakfast was 10/10. I'll definitely be going back but I'll stay on 2nd floor as the music and chatting from bar kept me awake a little as open till 1am on a Friday. This may not bother others. Also the drinks are good prices. We had bottle of merlot for 12 50! Over all an enjoyable stay Thankyou to all the staff for their hard work and welcoming manners :) ♥

We booked a few nights before our stay and they went above and beyond for us, we booked the supereme room and was blown away how lovley it was. I requested for rose petals and the room was done better then I could of planned. The breakfast was absolutely lovely everything you could need. Thank you again will be staying here again.

We had the best time here on a family trip as our son was visiting from Canada so we took them to our favourite seaside town, Barmouth and booked The Royal based only on location as we knew it was central. Anyway, they were wonderful. The rooms are great with nice bathrooms and plenty of space for us and our luggage. We went out for dinner to a local fish restaurant and went back to The Royal for drinks. It was nothing short of amazing. Rich was on form with the entertainment, and Pam was behind the bar with chat and fantastic service from start to finish. Brian was there having a chat at the bar and up and about serving breakfast in the morning with his great chat and smiling while making us laugh out loud. I cannot believe how lucky we were to have picked this place. Its relaxed atmosphere is only surpassed by the excellent staff who make it as amazing as it is, poeple who obviously love thier job as much as the locals and visitors who use it. Loved every minute of it........THANK YOU ALL!!!

Stayed here with my family while visiting from Canada. The staff, rooms and location are incredible. I’ll been telling people about this place for the rest of my life. Truly an amazing place to stay. Thank you to all the wonderful people who made our trip something to remember!

First visit to the Royal, staff were really welcoming. The food was very good and an excellent pint of Guinness. Food was reasonably priced and would definitely visit again.

Honestly, can't fault this place at all. We didn't stop in the accommodation but we did swing by for a few hours, for a few drinks. Cheap compared to a lot of places, split across multiple floors and most importantly are very dog friendly. Juke box playing away downstairs and a live singer upstairs. Everyone working here was friendly, full of smiles and genuinely welcoming.

Stayed at the Royal Hotel many times now and the rooms the staff are lovely, lovely atmosphere and good ale and a very good menu. I will surtanly be back.

Called here while staying in Barmouth , while the pub may not suit everyone who like your fancy top price gastro pubs, it was perfect for us, we mainly went here as they except dogs in the eating area, and the food was reasonably priced and tasted amazing, I was so impressed with the food, I told the waitress to compliment the chef , and she took me to the kitchen to meet the team, if your in Barmouth this pub is a must, the wife had the veg option and that was amazing to

We have just returned from a 3 night stay at The Royal, and we can't fault the hotel in anyway. Check in was quick and easy, parking agreement with local garage round the corner 24hr CCTV so no worries leaving car/van in a carpark overnight, pay at hotel. The two rooms given were lovely, spotlessly clean with great bathrooms walkin showers. Facilities were good too, beds comfortable, great bed linen and towels, toiletries & slippers an added extra, small fridge tea coffee and hot chocolate with biscuits in the rooms, shame not quite big enough for a couple of cosy chairs as had to sit on beds to watch TV but if weather better we would have been sitting on beach in the summer, our stay was end of Oct. The Breakfast was delicious, the idea of tick list night before was great as cuts down on waste, food was a very good standard, they did everything you asked for, poached eggs were perfect every morning and we enjoyed pancakes and fruit, especially without the syrup. The staff were all lovely and friendly. We did stay on a Saturday night (Halloween weekend) the live music was loud until just before midnight, but this is clearly stated on the website so expect it, would not put us off stopping again we loved it. Beach on the doorstep, shops in the town centre all walking distance, places of interest nearby, Harlech etc, beautiful beaches, close enough to the railway station when bridge reopens. Just back from a 3 night stay at the Royal. The rooms are spotlessly clean and comfortable, the newly refurbished bathroom was beautiful. The staff were great, really friendly and welcoming. Great choice of breakfast that was served in the dining room or your room on preference. The hotel has 2 bars, food served from lunchtime onwards. Great location, would highly recommend.

We'd booked to return to the wonderful Foxglove restaurant and were looking for an overnight stay. We booked the Royal due to the proximity alone. On booking, we'd asked if they could do a vegan breakfast of beans on toast. We didn't expect them to respond so well! Arriving early, we popped into the bar and had a quick drink. The Guiness was poured expertly and we were pleased to find a local beer available that was also vegan. We checked in and were shown to our room by helpful staff. What we hadn't expected and almost never happens - we've stayed in 4 star hotels and not had this level of service - there was a bottle of plant milk and vegan flapjacks in place of the usual complimentary snacks! We were absolutely delighted. The room was spotlessly clean and very well appointed, with tasteful decor and furniture that has clearly been thoughtfully put together. We went out and enjoyed beautiful Barmouth and returned after our evening meal. It was late and people were leaving the bar area - I believe there had been a musician playing there. If I was wanting an early night, this probably wouldn't be the place with the evidently very popular bar below, but as we were out late it was fine for us. Breakfast has the option of being brought to your room, another lovely surprise as we prefer not to eat where there are animal products around. We had pre-ordered on the form and the beans on toast with fruit juice arrived promptly at 8am. It was warm and exactly what we'd ordered, so we were happy. I cannot fault anything about our stay at the Royal. All the staff were excellent and went above and beyond to make sure we had a lovely experience. We will definitely book again. (Most likely Easter 2024!)

Well after our last visit to Barmouth and the Royal Hotel we are back again ( 5 years later). As my previous review, still is a Gem of a place. Friendly, welcoming staff and locals. Great food at a good price and some excellent ales...and its dog friendly too. We dropped in when happy hour was on and well compared to the other end of town what a great price! Enjoyed a great night in this lovely bar.

We always pop in this pub for a warm welcome ( Fiona in this case) and drink when we're in Barmouth. Yesterday, we had the Sunday Roast lunch, too. In short, it was fantastic. Plenty of meat, of whatever choice, nice selection of veg and enormous yorkie. We'll done to the Kitchen Team. By the way a cracking pint and wine. What a pub should be. See you soon.

Been here a few times lovely staff nice rooms , good location.

Absolutely fabulous pub, downstairs is more sports themed with pool table, beer garden and tvs, upstairs is for dining with a beautiful bar, full size snooker table, rooftop terrace. Amazing food and service and quite frankly astonishingly cheap (£2.80 a Guinness!!)

We stayed overnight in a standard double which was on the 2nd floor. Recently tastefully refurbished to a high spec. Great en-suite and hot shower with underfloor heating. Comfortable bed. Although on the main road through Barmouth the room was quiet and hotel centrally positioned. Would’ve liked fresh milk instead of mini cartons particularly as the room had a mini fridge. Breakfast… tasty and plentiful and wide choice. Enjoyed Sunday roast which was excellent value and happy hour too. Car park is an additional £5 per night and is approx 150metres away in a garage car park.

Lovely building with fantastic art displayed all around. Very well equipped and the food was excellent. The staff were very helpful and friendly, the atmosphere in the evening was brilliant with plenty of choice behind the bar ;) very clean and tidy we will definitely be returning next year the location is by far the best in Barmouth. Great pub they have happy hour every Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday between 4 pm and 8 pm. Very friendly place. They have beer garden, beer balcony. And nice menu as well. Elderflower Pale Ale was beautiful! Recommend everybody who is visiting Barmouth, Wales don't pass this traditional pub.

Cracking pub, great locals and bar staff. Historic history painted on ceiling and walls by local artists 🎨. Had a great afternoon here would recommend.

I have to say, yesterday was the first time I’d visited The Royal in Barmouth, going off another google review recommending it for cheap beer. As it was on a beach resort there wasn’t much else to do in the town apart from drink. The beer was cheap, the hospitality was great and the band choices were outstanding. We stayed for about 7 hours ended up joining the landlords birthday party! I’d visit Barmouth Again just for this venue.

Great pub with amazing food. We were actually surprised how it delicious it was. Has big TV for sports, pool billiard and lots of outside space. Great service.

We ate and had s drink at the pub, meals were of a good size and we're nice. Friendly staff, dogs welcome, they even brought sausage out for her. Well worth a visit.

This is a large pub with sports/music screens, there are several rooms, pool table and outside seating. It is a bit tatty round the edges but the beer is well kept, food is usual pub fare. Only gripe, staff are not very friendly.

100%great value, Came for Sunday lunch, staff were very friendly, beer prices are very reasonable less than £4 pint, and I had roast beef dinner was fantastic, the other half had the veggie burger and she love that to. We came in the royal in the downstairs bar and was served by Amy most the day, I must say she is a absolutely amazing bar maid, bubbly, chatty, very confident in her job, she is a absolute credit to you. Defo deserves a pay rise. A true service with a permanent smile

We stayed here for a week bed & breakfast. The rooms are lovely, you would never guess that ours (room 2) was a dog friendly room! So clean and tastefully furnished. Nice that there’s a mini fridge, tea and coffee etc, hair dryer and even an iron and ironing board in your room. The breakfast was great, plenty of choice ( pre ordered the night before). My favourites were the granola with fresh fruit and the pancakes with fruit and maple syrup- the full English was very filling! There’s entertainment on most Saturday nights and happy hour some nights too. Food menu is good and reasonably priced. Plenty at the hotel to keep you occupied with pool table, snooker table, dart board and table football. It’s only a short walk from the beach and all amenities. Would recommend

Stayed here 11/07/23 for one night with my wife and our dog. Absolutely fantastic place to stay and every single member of staff we had dealings with were brilliant and couldn’t do enough for us. Catered for us being vegan, with soya milk and vegan flap jacks in our room on arrival, and dog treats, bowls and blankets in the room if we needed them. Breakfast was pre-ordered the night before and was superb. Rooms are done to an excellent standard and spotlessly clean. Drinks prices at the bar are very reasonable and we loved the quirky decor in the bars. The owners have clearly gone to a lot of thought on how they want things and it’s worked. We will definitely be returning and hope to bring other family members next time.

A very last minute decision to stay in Barmouth on Sunday evening, we phoned The Royal a few hours before and were lucky to get the last available room. There were only the two of us but we were given the family room at a small discount. On arrival, the place was buzzing with locals and tourists, always a good sign! We were taken to our room and wow, what a surprise we had. It was gorgeous. A large family room tastefully decorated, a double bed and 2 single beds, not sofabeds as you would expect in a family room. It was extremely clean, lovely bathroom with a large shower and gorgeous toiletries (sorry but couldn't resist taking them all 😬). There was plenty of storage space with an iron and an ironing board. The tea and coffee making facility was situated in a cupboard with plenty of milk, biscuits and bottled water. The TV did have Netflix which I was surprised about, not sure if previous guests had forgotten to sign out but we took advantage of it anyway. The lady who showed us to our room explained how the pre-order breakfast worked and the next morning when we went down to the dining room, it was served to us without any fuss. The staff were very friendly and efficient and having chatted to them we got the impression that they were very proud of the establishment. If you're ever in Barmouth, put The Royal as your number one choice for accommodation, you won't regret it!!

As the title suggests a great venue If your on a diet as your food will never arrive, this makes faulty towers look like the ritzy, table booked 1pm it's now 3:45 and food not arrived
