The Rose Smokehouse in Gwynedd

Had a delish steak, cooked just to my liking (well done!). Even better that they allow dogs - they offered my wee pup a piece of sirloin, but he had to decline as he’s a vegetarian.

Last night of our holiday and we wanted to finish it with a nice meal. This restaurant is based on holiday park, in the main bar. We popped in 2 days before our visit to see if we should make a reservation as we were a party of 9 and couldn't get through on the phone. The shop/reception said they didn't take reservations. Turned up on the night, got drinks from the bar and asked about ordering food, the staff informed us that the food side was a separate business and a waiter would come over to serve us, this worried me as there was no indications on the table that we were there to eat. 15 minutes later still no order taken, back to the bar we went to be told again that it was a separate business but if she saw the waiter she would tell them we wanted to order. Finally the waiter came over at around 18:40, no smile, no welcome, not even eye contact whole talking to us and not actually listening to any of us so order had to be repeated numerous times. About 19:30 the table next to us (whose order was placed after ours) food came out with no sign of ours. Managed to grab the waiter and enquire about our order and he said he would find out for us, he then disappeared. My partner then went to the kitchen to find out, we had a 4 and 7 year old with us that were getting very cranky at this point. All she said was your order is being cooked now and the other table had pre-ordered which is why they were served first, even though we saw the waiter taking there order after ours. We decided at that point that if our order wasn't with us by 20:00 we would leave. 19:56 our food finally arrived, where do I start?? I had a pulled pork and southern fried chicken combo, pulled pork was dry and flavourless, SFC was seriously disappointing, I've had better from Iceland. Chips were cheap frozen job and they forgot the side of coleslaw which was cheap bulk buy and watery. Partner had a mixed grill, the 4oz steak was lovely then it went down hill. The chicken breast was that dry it actually looked like it was wrapped in pastry, the gammon was thin and crispy and dont even get me started on how over cooked the sausages were! Two different types of steak were ordered and they got those mixed up, one was rare and the the other medium-well. My sons burger was luke warm and finally there was no consistency with the salads. Surprisingly no waiter came over to ask if our meal was ok. On a positive the portion sizes were good and the kids fish fingers looked amazing. When it came to pay I was not prepared to spend £160 on sub standard food. I asked to speak to the manager/chef. She said people were told about the delay in food, we weren't. She then said that it was because of our party size that the food was delayed by an hour, i couldn't believe it! She did eventually apologise and took money off our bill. It's such a shame that this happened. Its the only restaurant of this type around the area and we were really looking forward to eating there. Wish we went for a take away curry down the road.
