One of the best roast dinners I have had in ages!! All the staff were so lovely, straight away we felt welcome and relaxed. Would highly recommend 😁

We visited for Sunday lunch and the entire family of 3 generations were very well catered for and everyone said how gorgeous the food was and that they would love to visit again. Generous portions, reasonable prices and delicious. Ticks all of the boxes. We can't wait to visit again.

Arrived at 7.30 booking..well greeted. waitress was very nice polite and went out her way to make it a special evening..all 3 meals were beautiful. Thankyou to all who were involved.

Magically place in the middle of lovely Thorney village. Brilliant food and atmosphere.

Nice place with lots of history. Sunday roast was good, fresh veg, reasonable price. Local ales on tap. Highly recommended.

Price is very reasonable, good portions and everything cooked wonderfully. Sauces seemed homemade, gravy pulled everything together. Traditional bread and butter pudding to finish was great.

It was a fairly quiet Friday evening, locals in mostly. We were told sit wherever we liked and presented with the normal and specials menus. Standard stuff on both, and good to see faggots making a come-back. I went for sea-bream.The food was nicely presented on the plate, my bed-of-greens cooked to perfection. The Dauphinoise potatoes where tasty but there was hardly any of them, mores the shame and my fish was fine, but without the traditional crispy skin.Food prices are high for a village pub but drinks are reasonable. Service is good, without being friendly. All in all this is a nice place to go for an out-of-the-way pub meal.

Lovely experience...it's also dog friendly. Would go again.

Subday lunch on a very wet and windy day, but a very warm welcome and delicious lunch we both had the roast beef which was extremely tasty and tender. The staff were very efficient and friendly.

Went for sunday lunch . Had a 3 course roast beef dinner for £20 excellent value good size portions with friendly attentive staff. Will most definitely be going back and highly recommend.

Quite possibly the best English Roast that I have had. Starter main course and dessert were all fantastic. You need to try this place, Highly recommended.

We booked here for 8 of our family to have CHRISTMAS dinner. Good choice on the menu with 4 courses.A nice atmosphere, staff were very attentive and the food was very good,plus reasonable price for Christmas day. Recommend this venue.

A nicely presented pub with very average food. The menu was very limited on a Sunday, with the choice more suited to their much older patrons. The staff were inattentive, and slow to bring water and the bill as requested.

Amazing lunch. I had beef & my friend had lamb. Lovely selection of vegetables & lovely & hot. Desserts were also very good & all home made. Definitely going back.

Great homely food, excellent friendly , attentive service

One of my good friends recently had a hip replacement and I had taken him to physio on a number of occasions. As a thank you he and his wife treated us to Sunday lunch. He said that we would enjoy the food, and he was not wrong. A good range of starters, traditional mains and delicious desserts. Portions are very generous, so you need to be hungry if deciding on three courses. This was a lovely occasion with sumptuous tasty food and the service was exemplary. Highly recommended.

I can not praise this restaurant enough. We travelled 90 miles to eat here as we were meeting friends. From the moment we stepped through the door a warm and welcoming management greeted us. We sat down to what can only be described as the best menu choice I have seen for a while. Our favourite starter was the broccoli and black pepper soup. The main and pudding were also delicious. It was the attentive service that most impressed. Bearing in mind it was a Sunday and very busy, we had staff coming up to us on a regular basis to check everything was okay. Will definitely be visiting again soon.

Lovely venue very friendly staff good food

We stopped here for a late lunch at 2:30 and Linda assured us that the chef would feed us. A warm welcome, delicious sandwiches and chips, cold beer and cider. We really enjoyed this as a lunch stop. We may well be back in the future!

Literally just left the Rose and crown after having a lovely lunch. Had to get straight onto doing a great review as it was the best Sunday lunch we have had in a long time. Fantastic food all hot and perfectly cooked. Wide choice on menu to suit everyone. Great service nothing to much trouble. Best of all very dog friendly!! Hopefully visiting again soon

Warm welcome, cold drinks and hot meals... homemade, traditional English fayre at its very best! Service is a little bit slow, but it’s worth the wait... so only go if you want to enjoy an unrushed relaxing meal out in good company. Highly recommended!

I have booked my leaving party for my friends and family at Rose & Crown. I had more then 50 visitors and more than half of them were having a meal. Food looked fantastic, very tasty, nice and warm and I truly enjoyed it. All my guests were pleased with food and there was no mistake made in any order, considering there were so many plates to send out! I had great night and will have wonderful memories for my last week in Thorney. Thank you to Stephen Michael Shreeve for organising it all for me.

Had an excellent meal with great choices in each course. Selection away from the usual pub grub as well as the basics. Particularly enjoyed my starter of mushrooms in a filo pastry tart topped with stilton cream. Service could not be bettered - attentive without hovering. The chef (owner) came out to ask if all was well - nice touch. Loved the “Help yourself to free water” beehive shaped bottle on the bar. Busy with couples, friends and families. We will return!

Called in on the way back from Norwich to the Midlands. My wife had the Fish and Chips and I had the pie of the day, Chicken and leek.

Very Old English Pub. Typical old fashioned style. Lots of old cosy atmosphere, beams, pews, benches, tables and chairs. A few seperate dining areas too. Menu looked a bit pricey but the food we saw being served looked lovely, was more gastro food and was being served all day. A lovely enclosed courtyard with picnic type benches and tables with umberellas Bright plants and pagoda with climber plants.

Stopped off for lunch at this traditional pub en route to Norfolk. The food was excellent with a very varied menu. The staff were very friendly, helpful and welcoming.

We called in on Sunday for the lunch menu,it was fantastic we all had 3 courses from the menu and it was superb.

Expensive food place beer awful and overpriced.not what i would call a village pub.his dog ok to roam but ours not allowed in.double standards at its best! At least we spend money. But not here now.

Came here for a family members birthday and the food and service was brilliant. Very good food and great selection of choice! Really friendly staff and shall be returning again soon.

Lunch for 2, 2 mains and 2 alcoholic drinks, not much change from £50!! Not even a beer garden. Many other pretty village pubs to be visited in the area that don't charge big city prices... especially with microwaves pinging in the background!

This was our first visit for a Sunday lunch, and we'll be visiting again. Particularly impressed with the quality and choice of starters. Wholesome Sunday roasts. We normally don't go for desserts, but the atmosphere was so friendly that we stayed on for the full three courses. The hot dishes were served hot, not tepid, which is a real plus.

Came here to get lunch on a Sunday. All four of us had a lovely meal and were greater by very friendly staff. The kids fish goujons were very large which they were very happy of. Myself and my mum both had the fish and we were not disappointed. Very tasty meal, a very large size with lots of vegetables on the side. Will be going back when we are in the area.

If you want good food and friendly staff this is the place to go. The meals are very tasty and big portions. Plenty of choices to choose from. We visit often and have enjoyed every meal.

Turned up for lunch on a Tuesday - as expected it was quiet but there were still a few other diners. The decor is eclectic but provides plenty of unusual things to look at!

Called on for quick drink and loo. 3 drinks very cheap. Staff friendly, polite and helpful Clean tidy. Would return if in the area

My wife and I chanced upon this local pub after a disappointing shopping visit near by. We had a lovely lunch, good food, excellent attentive service and a very nice pint to boot!

Lovely cosy pub with friendly staff and good service. Nice choice of food on the menu including al a carte if that’s what you wanted. We had a nice tasty cheese burger and a Gammon and both we’re really good. We then had deserts I had cheese and biscuits that were nice but a bit expensive for what was there. All in all a lovely pub with good food.

We ate here on a Thursday evening on our way home from Peterborough. As soon as we walked in we were made to feel very welcome. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Food was really good! What you expect from good pub food, no frills but care taken in the presentation. We had burgers and pies and sausage and mash, needless to say our plates were empty at the end of the meal and we still had space for pudding! Jam roll poly was a big hit! We will definitely be returning! An absolute gem!

Sunday 17 March. Yet another first class lunch, with my wife and sister in law. We all had different dishes and all were impressive. Good service makes this such an enjoyable meal. A chat with patron made the day

We went for a “date night meal “ the hubby decided he fancied something a bit different to what was on the menu . Steve the chef was more than happy to accommodate this request and whipped up a delicious meal as requested. Looking forward to our next meal

Visited for lunch on Saturday and from moment of arrival felt at home. Lovely friendly welcome. Great choice of food and drink. Between three of us fish and chips ("lovely"), faggots and peas ("clearly homemade and really lovely") and lambs liver and onions ("enormous and perfectly cooked and presented"). Two puddings (traditional with custard), lovely drinks. Strongly reccommend the Rose and Crown.

Saw a sign for this pub on a main road when driving home after a weekend away and found a gem of a pub. The staff were friendly and welcoming and the food was lovely. If ever passing again will definitely stop off for a drink and food again

We have been to the Rose and Crown in Thorney three times recently. On each occasion we have had an excellent meal. Once for Sunday lunch. Extensive menu all freshly home cooked.Portion sizes are generous and a good choice of desserts. Staff are very friendly and helpful and the Guinness is excellent. Would definitely recommend a visit.

It was quiet when we entered and the restaurant area was cold, I kept my jacket on.

We visited with friends for a birthday meal and had a very enjoyable evening. The menu was full and varied and their is a specials board as well. All our choices were very good; though we were all able to fit in a pudding as well. The service was also very good throughout and the bill reasonable for the food and drink that we had during the evening.

Called in on a Friday night for a bite to eat with friends. Fish and chips lovely followed by homemade cheesecake! Will be going back again soon! Very friendly, staff and landlord.

Had the t bone it was really good, service was ok couldn’t complain . The only thing I think let it down was asked for a coke it came in a tin

4 of us had a 3 course Sunday lunch each and it was without doubt the best ever. We have eaten here before and we have never had a bad meal. All the food is beautifully cooked and fresh. The service was really nice, friendly, efficient and very helpful. We were made to feel very welcome and were never rushed. We will definitely be going again very soon.

We have been as a family for about 3 years. Sunday lunch has alway been excellent. I don’t know if the chef has changed but the food standards have changed. The meat seems to be undercooked stringy and grisly. The melon starter was hard and unpleasant. The roasts were hard and dry. The mash was dry. No butter or milk cream in the mash. Very little cheese sauce on the cauliflower. Not enough gravy. The gravy boats are small and only half full. We didn’t stay for sweet.

Impromptu lunch and decided to try The Rose and Crown Thorny. A very warm welcome great atmosphere, excellent food and reasonably priced. Highly recommend the place.

Good for food and drinks with friends. Always a pleasant ‘village pub’ feel. Always large portions of food. Service is friendly - worth a visit for a midweek meal and drink.

Lovely food, (very large portions) and wonderful staff made our lunch with our foster carers and young people a great success. Welcoming, attentive staff and the friendly atmosphere made it just right for our celebration! (Moon and Back Foster Care)

The food was reasonably good and was priced pretty well too, the staff however weren't that knowledgeable about the food they were selling and that came across as a let down. When I'm ordering food if I have a question about what I'm about to consume, the waiting staff should not only be able to make recommendations but should know about things like what the food contains and allergy information. Get you staff to not only see how the food is made, get them to try it. It's easier to make a recommendation if it comes from experience. "Try the soup, I had it recently and it was great!".

We just had a wonderful meal at the Rose and Crown from their Christmas party menu. There was a good choice of food, all beautifully cooked and presented. All the staff are friendly and helpful. One of our party was in a wheelchair and we were given a table with an easily accessible space for the chair. The only down side was the fact there were not many people in the restaurant which we were surprised about as the food is always fantastic. We have never had a bad meal here and have visited in on many occasions.

Went last night (Thursday) and had a lovely meal. Food was cooked just as we requested, full of flavour and topped off with a sauce that was fantastic. Desserts were great too.

Visited Sunday for lunch with the family. Service was great - both bar and wait staff alike, food was lovely, we had the soup (tomato with a little kick), and the Stilton mushrooms - to die for! We had the turkey for mains, there was a heap of vegetables and potatoes (roasties and mash) - all cooked to our liking. The best bit for me was the sweet - lemon meringue! Best one I have had in years! Deffo worth a visit.

We took a couple of visiting close friends to the Rose and Crown for an evening meal. We managed to get a table as it was very busy, we selected our choices and must say when the meals arrived we were very impressed. The presentation and quality of the food was outstanding, one of the best we have been to. We would highly recommend a visit to the Rose and Crown at Thorney.

Food was horrendous. My mother was unable to eat her crab salad - I can only imagine a stench of that sort coming from severely out of date produce. Although my mushroom fricassee was nice enough, it did not have even a hint of stilton as promised. The mains were average accompanied by gloopy gravy and watery boiled vegetables, certainly not worth the wait. My biggest issue however was the service. During our hour and a half stay, the waitress was extremely rude. Not only did she huff when we asked for some tap water, she also scrunched up her face when I asked politely for some sparkling water. With a bill of over £100, we left feeling disappointed as the standard of food was far far below that which you would expect from a restaurant championing such promising reviews. Would never return. Don't be mislead by the reviews.

We visited the Rose and Crown on Sat 10th November 2018. We chose it from reviews on trip advisor and we were not disappointed. Although not very busy there was a warm and friendly atmosphere. The staff were friendly and polite. Service was fantastic and the food was amazing. We sat in the restaurant side and felt comfortable. The waiter did not reach across anyone. The food was well presented and cooked perfectly. Nice size portions. We will definitely be going back.

Lovely place,nice and clean..wasn't impressed when they brought hot food to the table and placed it in front of my 2 year old grandson..the plate was hot and the food... We had the Welsh lamb wasn't impressed with that wouldn't have it again...everything else was lovely..we will go again...we've just moved to the village so would like to support were we live..

We have been to the rose and crown many times good food excellent service. Never had a bad meal. Sunday lunches excellent you never come away still feeling hungry portion size is very good.well done to steve and his excellent staff.

Nice home cooked food and an extensive menu offset the dated decor. Our first time here but it's unlikely to be out last.

Visited at 9pm on a Thursday. Asked when they closed owner said ‘whenever it gets quiet’. Sat down with our drinks and there was another table Of five in the restaurant area drinking. At 9:30pm we were both told to leave despite only having a couple of sips of our drinking and having a catch up. Our table asked if we could finished our drinks before we left and owner sent his stafff along as his ‘servant’ to tell us that we couldn’t finish our drink and that we would have to leave it or take it away in a take away cup!! Rediculous!!! Just because he couldn’t be bothered to keep his pub open for 15 more minutes. This is disgraceful behaviour a so called ‘friendly’ pub.
