Very lovely fish and chips The bar is very clean and service was great food very well packed, my grandchildren were offered sweets for while we waited for food to cook, excellent!!

Highly recommend this place! Menu has so many new options and great lunch time offers.

First time to get food here since the ownership changed. The particular attraction is the availability of gluten free rock eel on Wednesdays. Ordered online so the food was waiting for me on arrival. Once home, both sets of fish and chips were hot, crisp and obviously newly cooked. Very enjoyable overall.

Loved the ridgeway before, however chips weren't not cooked , cod roe was still semi frozen, not happy will not return

Tasty food, all cooked to order. Repeat visits confirm good food and service. Been back many times since and always good.

Not been too this place for a long time because of the quality of food previously but decided to try it again. Big mistake I only live up the road got home chips were cold more crispy bits than potatoes, cold beef and onion pie. The only thing that was good was the piece of haddock that my wife had probably because it was cooked fresh. Will not return very disappointing after spending shy of £20.

They seem to have been taken over by someone else..Chips not as nice (hard and crunchy). Gf Fish didn't seem to have the same batter... Might give them another chance next week...

Gone down hill.. Was a regular customer due quality of food and generous portion sizes. Last visit uneatable meals, smaller portions.. I took it back and was refused to be refunded and frankly they did not seem to care... One family that won't be going back EVER..

Always a reliable choice for fish and chips in the area. Service is generally fast, but you can order in advance and just pick up.

Same quality as most other places at double the price, taking advantage of the more affluent area. Last few visits got me a front row seat to an employee arguing with a delivery driver.

Food was very good very pricey tho and the curry sauce was very weak more like gravy otherwise nice

Had pie and chips on the go, I was a bit surprised at the price but tbh it has been a few years since I've had a chippy take out. It tasted great and the shop was clean tidy and very busy.

What a rip-off. Just paid £4 for a large portion of chips that were cold and the portion was so small it was barely enough for one, let alone the two of us.

Good quality fish 'n' chips. Four stars as large cod wasn't quite that large. The last 3" - 4" were basicly skin in batter which should have been trimmed off! Naughty!

Had to wait a very long time and it is extremely expensive. So much oil in the meal, which all leaked out of the bag and ruined stuff in the car! Being generous giving 2 stars....

Just had the most delicious cod, chips and mushy peas meal. It was cooked fresh and just tasted amazing. The staff are brilliant, so efficient and work so well as a team. I would say this is the best fish and chips I’ve ever tasted

I have written before about these guys but wanted to acknowledge their fantastic delivery service through lockdown and the quality of their fish and chips.I have moaned previously about portion size but that is definitely not an issue anymore. Lovely fleshy crispy battered fish and good chips.Big thumbs up from me!

This is our regular "go to" for Fish & Chips.We order every Wednesday as they have Gluten Free options for my partner, and it is always consistently very good... so good we are happy to drive this far to get it from Hatfield. Pricier than some places but worth it in my opinion.

Best chip shop around!! Vegetarian option of battered halloumi is amazing! Chips always cooked to perfection and halloumi never soggy! So nice to be able to enjoy fish and chips without the fish!

Really pleased with the quality and service received. The batter is so light and the quality of the cod is fantastic. The whole family gave today's meal a thumbs up. We ordered a sausage that was accidentally left out of the order but Ridgeway we're back in minutes with an extra sausage on the house. I felt the need to leave a good review as most of the time people are compelled to leave a negative review after an incident. This is not the first time I have ordered from Ridgeway and definitely won't be the last!

I understand in these times you only deliver , so I rang up and made a order coming to £13 I live above the quadrant on my own I even spent more than I wanted to just to get the order value up but £15 is the minimum I am disappointed that that for the value of £2 you Couldn’t pop the order up stairs

Lovely fish in crispy batter with chips cooked in good oil and excellent quality potatoes grown on a Bedfordshire farm. The lunch time special is great value at £5 per person for fish, chips and mushy peas. The food is packaged well and staff friendly and helpful. They aim to extend their range of food- with the possibility of home made pies. Only just relocated to St Albans and no need to find any further fish and chip shops!

Gluten Free Wednesdays, excellent crispy crunchy moist fresh hot fish n the chips. First rate takeaway with friendly service, can get busy so pick your time. Recommended, sorry no photo it didn’t just that long.

Having not been able to eat fish and chips for years, but still having to buy/watch everyone else doing it, I was over the moon when the Quadrant Fish bar decided to serve Gluten Free opetions every week. (wednesday evenings). Their fish and batter have always been perfectly cooked and chip portions generous. Most packaging is recyclable too and well labeled and the shop has up to date info on the wall about where its supplies are from. When its my time to go, I think I would like a memorial bench outside this place - I like the thought of

My first experience of this chip shop. Very poor quality.fish was very bland & chips not of chip shop standard.was cold when I got it home & only live 2 mins away in car. Not impressed!!..

The meal was below average barely any fish it was mostly batter. The sausages were also sub-par. We didn't even receive the chips and when we called up to complain they just told us tough luck they wouldn't redeliver.

I buy fish & chips most Friday’s here as there is simply nowhere else serving such great fish! But the last 3 months waiting for your order has become a bit much. I contemplated looking for another fish shop, but they are around the corner and the fish & chips are simply great. So I called up the owner to tell him I needed a solution as I didn’t want to search for another shop. He told me to phone in my order; but he also explained the efforts they go through to ensure the fish is fresh and ready to eat. This is my second week back and it’s much better! Great to know that the owner cared to listen and suggested a way to make sure I could enjoy our weekly fish and chips without the wait!

Not quite sure about this place now. The last time back this year I had an experience eating the fish and chips from this place when I was overcome with a feeling of nausea and could no finish the food. I suspect, but do not know, that they maybe frying with Palm Oil, my apologies if this is not so. It does mean however that I shall not be a future customer after many many years.

I waited 25 minutes for a small cod and chips. A wait is to be expected in busy periods but this was chaos. No apology given. The shop has repeated this performance on two recent visits. Loads of people just standing around waiting !!

Great service, quick and efficient. Yes it's only a take away but the food was delicious. Not all greasy like some places and very enjoyable. Fish was excellent and the steak and kidney pies are scrumptious

I used to be a regular a few years ago and thought I’d check back in after switching loyalties. Service was very sloppy, took >20 mins to get served at 7.30pm on a Thursday. Also didn’t get a good feeling off the people. Reminded me a bit like the customer service standards in the 80s, basically customers are a huge inconvenience. When I did finally get my order, it was wedged in and packed very badly which damaged the fish. I’ll try them again some time, when this bad memory fades, but not for a while.

Used these guys regularly over the last few years, but tonight service was sloppy, slow, people ordering after me getting served before me, then the chap can't remember whats on my order.

I’ve lived in St Albans all my life but have never come to this fish and chips. It was absolutely delicious, huge portions, especially the onion rings, I was shocked to see the size of them! No fish ordered this time, the chicken burgers were very tasty, as were the battered sausages & chips

First visit here to get cod & chips for all the family. Staff were so helpful as we didn’t know what size portion to have . The chips were chunky & not at all greasy. Cod had lovely crispy batter & no skin which was a bonus. Didn’t have to wait more than 10 mins. Thoroughly enjoyed by all.

Poor experience with the customer service - first the order was put through wrong (a mistake which is understandable from a young boy) but then arrived home with half the order missing. Phoned up a lady answered promised to throw in extra food. My husband had to drive all the way back to approach a defensive woman with no apology at all and no food thrown in as promised or token for their catalogue of mistakes. Poor poor customer service from her which is a shame as the food is good. Won’t be going again, you gain customers from good customer relations!

I called the owner to give him a right of reply but he denied everything and proceeded to harass me on my mobile using a no caller ID number (conversations of which I have recorded for my safety). It seems other people who post online reviews get a pleasant response back but this guy has proceeded to character assassinate me and even lie about our conversation, making out I swore and wished him terminal illness. He obviously has a huge 'chip' on his shoulder - excuse the pun!

I organised a school quiz for 80 people and as part of this we had a Fish and Chip Supper. Daniel was brilliant, he made the ordering so straight forward and due to the number we were able to get the food delivered straight to the event which was amazing! It arrived exactly at the time agreed. I have to admit I was not expecting large portions as we had gone for small cod and chips, but wow was I mistaken, the portion size was fantastic, the food was really tasty and all in all it was great value for money....I would definitely recommend and the Ridgeway Fish bar will now be my go to Fish and Chip Shop!

I organised an evening event for 20 people and we decided to have a Fish & Chip supper. The organisation and pick-up ran smoothly. People at the event loved the fish & chips and kept asking me where they came from. Several people said "These are the best fish & chips I've had in years!"

This has got to be one of the best Fish & Chip shops around! I don't think I've ever had a bad fish from here. The chips are cooked perfectly too.

Our grassroots football club held a fundraising quiz night and asked The Ridgeway to supply the half time food. 61 portions of fish and chips arrived on time, piping hot and individual wrapped and boxed. The feedback was ‘amazing’, superb’ and ‘the best I’ve had’.

This is our regular fish & chip shop and deserves a mention as the quality here is always of a high standard. You are told via a chalk board on where you fish is caught,also where potatoes are from.Service is of a high standard,with the staff friendly and helpful,we will continue to purchase here and I recommend you do also.

After a hard days working & then choosing a new kitchen what better way to wind down than fish & chips with a lager. We both had rock & chips which took no time at all to cook. Service cannot be faulted as very polite & about the right price.

This outlet provides an excellent fish & chip offering. In addition, fried chicken, pies and kebabs are on offer. The staff are friendly and with a small pre-cooked stock, service is quick but fresh. Whats not to like, treat yourself!

We contacted the fish bar to provide chips for three events. Dan was a pleasure to deal with, all the arrangements went smoothly and everything was on time. Finally I've found a chippy down south that does scraps and gravy on chips. The food is fantastic and the staff couldn't be more helpful. If your in the St Albans area you would be daft not to visit 5* food

The food served here used to be good but now it is honestly near to awful the portions are small with overcooked chips and the batter is too greasy

Verá este es mi segundo comentario y sinceramente como este fish and chips, sin embargo he tenido un par de visitas recientemente donde el tamaño cod es un pequeño cod. No estoy seguro de si hay algún tipo de protocolo que cuando los precios son altos cod en el mercado de pescado que luego te sirven una porción más pequeña?

Usually when I come to this place I have a cod and chips, which usually tastes fine however the last time I went there I was feeling something other than fish so I ordered there lamb kebab and honestly it was the worst kebab I have ever eaten, the meat contained no flavour what so ever and tasted like rubber, I took two bites out of it and had to throw it away. Real shame as there fish and chips is actually good so I don't see the point in adding kebabs to your shop which let it down so much and make it worse. It's much better to keep it simple and do the thing which your good at and not try mixing in other things. Will definitely never be getting a kebab from there again and choosing the other places in the local area.
