had lunch here for the first time. Lasagne very nice, nice 'oldy wordy pub' staff very welcoming especially Nicki. Will be back soon, I hope!

We visited the Red Lion for a evening meal after a fab day at Simmonds Yat.Food was excellent.Home made curry ,salmon pasta ,apple crumble and custard.Lovely staff and friendly owner.Very covid friendly.Will definitely call again if we are in this beautiful area.

We booked this venue due to the gluten free options. There were 5 of us, one 90 year old. We were shown to a table that was outside, which would have been ok had the sun not been on us the whole time. So between courses we went and stood in the shade. 2 meals had to be taken back to the kitchen because they were wrong. The staff were excellent and the real ales were spot on. I had the rump steak which was tough, so brought it home to put on barbeque tomorrow. I have tried to be balanced in writing this review, but sorry we won't be back. We booked a meal and stopover at red lion, lovely pub, good beer , I had 1985 lager and mu unc had Guinness both enjoyed, dogs had water they preferred the Guinness!!Humans enjoyed the steak ale and blue cheese pie and pulled lamb curry, too full to try the deserts unfortunately!Chips were nice too. Good nights sleep. Lovely beer garden and views.Would highly recommend the red lionThanks.

We stayed there in our motor home. Very friendly nice proprietor. We had a brilliant meal. I had duck and my husband had butternut squash and coconut curry. Followed by Apple crumble and lush ice cream. Highly recommend.

We booked for a sunday roast here last weekend. 2 adult and 2 lively children. Our 1st visit here.We made the mistake of ordering a large roast...wow. large it certainly was!We would definitely order the standard roast on our next visit. We sadly had no room for dessert!Traditional home cooked roast. Plenty of vegetables. We actually left lots of meat. Children enjoyed the food which was a miracle for them to eat vegetables.The food was absolutely delicious. Staff and waitresses very helpful and polite.A secure play area outside which kept the children occupied.I would say the play area is aimed at children aged up to around 4 years. My 9 year old was complaining there was nothing for him to play with but that was probably because he was away from technology for 5 minutes. Would definitely recommend here and hope to visit again very soon.

This place has become a firm favourite of ours. The food is ALWAYS excellent. Great menu & lots of delicious daily specials. Always receive a lovely warm welcome by Kath & her team. Cannot recommend enough. Make a visit, you will not be disappointed. This the best dining in the area by far.

God, honest British Pub food. I had a lovely steak, ale & blue cheese pie served with dauphinois potatoes and plenty of veg. My wife had salmon tagliatelle, which was very nicely cooked and my daughter had a child’s ham, egg & chips. The service was appropriately attentive, the wait for food was sensible and the pub itself was clean & tidy, with all the relevant Covid-19 precautions in place. All in all a great experience, good value for money & would definitely return if we were back in the area.

We moved to the area during the pandemic and had Sunday lunch here prior to lockdown, yesterday was our first visit since the easing of restrictions. We called in for a drink and a snack after shopping. Had a table in the garden. We both chose the Prawn and Avocado Crostini, delicious...and beautifully presented; literally summer on a plate.Attentive and informative service , thank you Kath we will be back.Rob & Jackie Wallace

We visited due to the good reviews but we found this pub was really disappointing. The service was slow and the food a let down. I would not recommend this pub for food.

We are staying nearby for a few days and phoned at about 5pm and got a table for 6.45. Excellent service and food. Fantastic one way system and sanitiser on every table felt very safe. Can recommend the pie and salmon pasta.

We stayed at the Red Lion in our Motorhome for the night. This gem of a place provides everything you need including EHU, waste disposal services in a lovely location behind the pub, with beautiful views and surroundings. The staff were very friendly and the pub had a great atmosphere with lovely seating area outside and a children’s play area if you have young ones. The pub is dog friendly too so a perfect stopover on our way to visit Wales. Would highly recommend!

We really enjoyed our lunch yesterday. As always, the service was friendly and efficient. The food is excellent. My husband had the small beef lasagne, which was perfect for a lunch portion. I had the Chicken Breast St David’s, which was so tender and flavourful. The vegetables were cooked perfectly. We followed up with white chocolate and raspberry cheesecake, and the sticky toffee pudding with vanilla ice cream. Yum! We will be back to try more of the menu options.

Had a family meet up here and couldn't rate them highly enough. The staff were very helpful and friendly and the food was delicious. There was a wide choice on the menu that catered to everbody's taste. I had a delicious home made lasagne with nicely fried chips (not anaemic like some places) and salad that actually had a dressing on it (without asking). The crumble looked yummy, and I'm told it was although I had the Banoffee Pie which was also lip smacking good. Will definitely be visiting again when we next have a family meet up

Sunday lunch, table of four. We had beef, pork and lamb... Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meal. Desert followed the apple crumble was to die for... We will certainly be back

I booked a table with my family for my birthday on Thursday 20th May. We had a seat by the fire, which was lovely. My husband chose the ham hock turine to start and I had the prawn cocktail, mmmm so tasty, both were absolutely delicious and our plate went back to the kitchen empty. My daughter chose chicken nuggets chips and peas and was surprised to see actual chicken pieces covered with breadcrumbs. She said they were bigger than expected and delicious. For our main course my husband chose Pulled curried Lamb, which came with naan bread and chips, it was scrumptious and filling, but the sauce was a bit hot for him, which didn't matter because the sauce came in a separate dish. I went for the Salmon tagliatelle from the specials board and OMG was it good. Dave, one of the owners and chef, makes the tagliatelle pasta himself and it was so light and thin, (a bit like filo pastry thinness), I can't rave about this enough. With the portion size, you think you will struggle to complete the meal, thinking it will fill you up too much, but it was a deliciously, light and flavoursome dish, which left a little room for the Cheesecake of the day.....Eaton Mess. It was hard for my daughter and I to choose which dessert to choose from .... we will have to go back again to pick another delicious meal and desert from the menu. Remember to book your table in advance so you won't be disappointed because it was very busy. Next time we might even take our campervan to book in to their campsite, just so we could both enjoy the local beers, (Wye Valley, Ledbury Gold and Butty Bach) and double sized house vodka.Mmmm what shall I try next?? We were visiting The Laskett Garden on a visit from Hampshire and used Trip Advisor to find a nearby lunch stop. The Red Lion didn't have immediate kerb appeal on a drizzly day but I'm glad we stepped inside. The whole lunch experience was excellent. Great welcome from Kath (who I suspect is the landlady?) who showed how waitressing should be done. Attentive efficient service. The menu was interesting with a good selection of standards, and great fish specials. The monkfish and the salmon tagliatelle were first class- well cooked with good fresh ingredients. The local asparagus was the best I've had this year. Limited but well chosen wine list. Finished off with really good freshly made puddings - a white chocolate cheesecake and a chocolate indulgence, followed by coffee. I reckon you can always tell something about the management of a pub restaurant by the standard of the loos. The Red Lion's were new, and immaculate. You could sum up our experience by saying don't judge a book by its cover. From outside, the Red Lion looks pretty ordinary. The food and drink operation inside is anything but - a really good professional operation.

As a group of 4 we had 3 different meals, salmon tagliatelle with asparagus, spicy monkfish with asparagus and vegetables and wild bore meatball and pasta. Each of us said it was the best meal we have had in a very long time (lockdown excluded) , home cooked and at a reasonable price. Service is very friendly and efficient. It is out of our way to go to this pub, but worth the trip, as with so many meals out at pubs they are standard, mediocre at best, this place is a rarity.

Came here after reading some good reviews on trip advisor, staff were great, the Butty Bach Ale was fantastic, and the food was excellent, just what we needed after a day messing about on the river

So good to get out to eat with friends we chose the Red Lion because we have always had great food and good times there and we were not disappointed, staff were great, very covid aware.

We managed to get a booking the day before for a lunch party of 3. Our first meet up for many months. The booking in was easy and we had a table out in the glorious sunshine. Service was as efficient and friendly as before the pandemic enforced close downFood was excellent and we were made that welcome and comfortable we didn’t want to leave. As great day, chatty friendly staff and really good food. Looking forward to another visit soon

We visit here regularly for lunch. But we have also enjoyed evening meals and Sunday roasts. We always take our visitors here. Staff are so friendly and professional. Good is excellent and ample portions. Can not praise it enough. Well done all.

An excellent outside lunch for myself and my family. Great food (good value) and great presentation. Staff were brilliant. Grandchildren loved the outside play area. Bit windy so if you’re sitting outside wrap up warm. Definitely recommend this pub. Pauline

Five of us came for lunch before the lockdown for my sisters birthday.The food was delicious, homemade steak and ale pie was sublime, as was the fish, portions were generous and the vegetables were fresh and delicious.Had the most lovely creme brûlée so light and tasty.We have often come here for Sunday lunch also and have never been disappointed.The owner and her staff are so welcoming and friendly.It’s our go to place for lunch whenever we are in the area.Thank you very much. We visited the pub on a number of occasions whilst staying nearby.It is very good local pub serving good quality pub food with a decent selection of beers.What makes the pub different are the staff, the COVID measure are spot on and adhered at all times by both customers and staff. The staff are always pleasant,keen to help and engage in conversation,nothing is ever a problem.

We had Sunday lunch yesterday! Superb roast lamb so tender the trimmings superb partners beef the same !! We returned tonight for evening meal , we both had chicken Marsala ! Extra hot lots of extras ! It was as good as any curry house ! In these times I want to say a big thank you Dave and kath for all your hard work , commitment ! And we hope to come back and have the same superb food ! It’s has to be the most superb gastro pub ever !

We were staying in the area on holiday and were told that this was a good restaurant to eat at. We were not disappointed. We went for Sunday lunch and even though we opted for what we thought might be a smaller OAP size, but it was enormous! Everything was beautifully cooked and the service was excellent. Felt really safe as all Covid precautions were taken.Still have a few days of our holiday left and think we could well be visiting again.

We visited for lunch in half term with our 6 year old son and 94 year old grandmother. All the staff (and especially our waitress) were really friendly and the pub had such a welcoming feel, you could tell it was run by a family who really care about what they're doing. Great selection of food with options to suit us all and everything came out so hot and you could tell it was all freshly made - we had fisherman's pie, fish and chips, Buckinghamshire pie and ham and chips between the four of us. Portions were really good, so unfortunately couldn't fit in a pudding! The pub were generously offering free children's meals during half term, such a lovely thought to support families. Would highly recommend and if we're ever in the area again we will return!

Stopped on the offchance, having a 2017 copy of the Good Pub Guide in the car.Temperatures taken and hand gel dispensed we were seated. Everywhere was clean and the staff were welcoming.A good pint of Ledbury Gold and a cup of tea as we perused the menu. Prawn gumbo was excellent and lamb sliders equally so.Definitely recommend and would return.

We were staying at Broome Farm, so took a 25 minute walk to the pub. It was all very covid safe, but didn't take away from atmosphere or experience.The staff were friendly and helpful. The menu was good and well priced. It was excellent quality top with the pie being a proper pie with full casing. Meat was fantastic quality. We didn't get to the pudding as the servings were generous. We would recommend the pub and would return.

This is a lovely Inn, very well organised with covid restrictions and the staff are really efficient and friendly. The food was amazing, and the menu gives plenty of choices, our food was excellent and beautifully presented. I couldn’t recommend it more, go ahead book a table see for yourselves.

Called in without booking and by chance, without reading any reviews. We hit the jackpot !I think we were lucky to be fitted in as it seems a very busy and popular place, and quite rightly so.A really tasty and large roast beef & roast lamb. A perfect Sunday lunch. Visited the Red Lion Inn again and was greeted with the warmest welcome by Kath. We had afternoon drinks and met with family later for a wonderful meal. If you are passing through with a Motorhome, there are electric hookup points that are extremely good value. Great food, great Location, fantastic welcome. Without doubt we’ll be back. Greeted with a warm welcome,& reassuring Covid measures taken,we were shown to our table and looked after well all throughout our visit by super friendly staff.The menu had a good range of dishes and had something to suit all of us.I had the 10 oz rump which was unlike any I’ve had before,more like a big fillet and an absolutely delicious pepper sauce.Followed by a brûlée and floater coffee,I was very happy,and more importantly so were the rest of my family who are sometimes hard to please!Very impressed,will definitely return when next in the area.

Unbelievable home cooked food, the curry and pie of the day were favourites. Felt safe in their surroundings too. Can’t wait to go again !!!!

Made a special effort to visit because of the high trip advisor reviews. The slightly sticky table made me wonder if we had the right place. The food overall was pretty awful. Duck dry and overcooked, the same with the green beans. The plum sauce was like nothing I’ve ever tasted, almost inedible. On a slightly positive note the potato rosti was really nice! If not for the excellent welcome and amazing service I’d give 2 stars.

Went and had a meal mid week. The food we had was very nice. Well presented and plenty of it. Service was a bit slow but they were very busy and apparently a member of staff down. What staff there was never stopped. The only down point was when the bill arrived. I just had a quick read and suddenly realised there was a large wine and a lager on the bottom of the bill which were not ours. I told the young lady this and she replied “sorry, we didn’t know who’s they were so put them on your bill”!!! They quickly removed them. It was a shame as we had had a lovely evening.

We went for lunch to celebrate my Grandma's 89th birthday. It was lovely. We sat outside so the children could play in the play area- swings, slides, sandpit. The food was superb, large portions. Everyone very much enjoyed it and the staff were lovely. Thank you

Stopped here for a drink while on a walk on Sunday. The fact that they have hand sanitizer, take your temperature and your contact details was very reassuring. The landlady, Kath, was very welcoming and the food being served looked so nice that we booked a table for the following night. The food was delicious and definitely homemade, the staff were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Before leaving we booked again for later in the week and had another lovely meal. I would definitely recommend a visit to this friendly pub.

We were greeted by a genuine warm welcome and excellent Covid 19 procedures were professionally undertaken which was very reassuring. This quaint public house is deceptively spacious and full of character. The Buckingham homemade pie and Sea Bass are to be recommended as is the superb dessert menu . I can thoroughly recommend a visit as you will not be disappointed!

On a bike ride stopped for coffee, cold tasteless and lady behind bar was not the friendliest. She asked if we had used thermometer to test temperature which was by backdoor and pointed out the sign on the wall bellow eye level and in a dark passageway.

Visit taken on the 'eat out to help out'. The Meals were excellent. I ordered the Sea Bass that was cooked to perfection and presented superbly and the taste was sublime. For desert I had Creme Brulee which was devine! The atmosphere was safe and social. The staff were friendly and accomodating. Well worth visiting in the future.

We were able to book a table in the morning for lunch that afternoon and the lady on the phone was very helpful and friendly. She warned us that they had a few large parties coming, so we knew that it would be a little busy, but that was okay!When we turned up, there were clear signposts and posters to tell us how they had made the place COVID secure, which helped to put us at ease.We did have to wait a little while for our food, but, as we were warned when booking, they had quite a few large groups. The food was well worth waiting for- it was delicious. I had the pie and my partner had the gumbo (which she said was hot but really tasy). It was well worth the wait- absolutely lovely!Even better was that, with the government scheme currently running, our bill was half what we expected it to be!!! And the food was already a bargain.We had a thoroughy lovely visit and although it is not local to us, if ever I am back that way, I would seek it out again!Thank you!

Having read good reviews on trip advisor we decided to book this pub for lunch whilst on holiday in the area. They were very good at keeping to the Covid rules. We sat outside with our dog and had a very enjoyable meal

Excellent lunch here today, all Covid 19 restrictions adhered to, felt safe eating there. Lunch was very nice, catered for vegetarian and gluten free and children, good food and value for money, even more so as we used the government "eat out to help out scheme" The staff were helpful and welcoming and very happy to see us, would definitely recommend.

Delicious food, lovely staff, recommend you eat here. Plenty of space and if not there are tables The beer garden attached. Fabulous views.

We booked online as of all the craziness in the world right now it’s recommend that you do, very accommodating, and quick response. We are holidaying in Hereford and been recommend to come to this place, you won’t be disappointed food very good obviously home cooked which is all anyone really wants. Price very reasonable also. This was our first trip to the pub since lockdown and we felt very safe and reassured. Hand sanitiser on every table, also at the door in and out entrance, good social distancing put into place. So all in all had a lovely few hours. Also if you have kids lovely play area and a big beer garden out the back for a sunny day. Thanks Kath and your hard working waitress who also was amazing.. We are in the area on holiday. We booked this morning Gand they were able to seat all 9 of us at an outside table, which was our preference. We had our temperature taken when we arrived, and were clear on the COVID procedures. We felt safe throughout. The toilets and restaurant were spotless. The food was amazing! Traditional pub food at it’s best. Plus my daughter is gluten free and she had the best homemade battered fish fingers she’d ever tasted! A real treat for a 5 yr old. (Pictured). And the staff were so warm and friendly, we felt very welcome. The playpark is lovely - plenty to keep them busy and we were fortunate with the weather.Would definitely recommend to families and friends.

We have just returned from our first meal out in many months due to Covid, & as Wales has not yet completely reopened we drove a few miles into England & booked a table in the Red Lion at Peterstow. Covid measures at the front door were reassuring (temperature check/contact details) & first impression upon entering was how spotlessly clean, fresh looking & spacious the restaurant, bar & toilets looked. Front of house staff/waitresses were welcoming, friendly & attentive, especially towards 1 of our party who needed to avoid certain ingredients. All meals were freshly cooked, very good portions but unfortunately we just could not manage to try the delicious sounding desserts being offered (maybe next time). We all had a lovely relaxing evening & agreed that The Red Lion has now been added to our ‘eating out’ restaurant list & will definitely be recommended to friends & family. Thank you to all concerned & our next visit will be to try your Sunday lunch.

In these troubled times we came back to Ross-on-Wye as soon as we could ! We have eaten out and had drinks in a few Venus ! However the red lion has nailed it !!!! We have just had the best ever Sunday roast , myself roast lamb , my partner Paul had roast beef both served with delicious roast potatoes mixed veg !!! Amazing Protocols all in place and kath runs front of house like a dream ! And her husband David the chef well it was superb ! Thank you both and your team for such an amazing lunch in these COVID times I recommend if in Ross-on-Wye do eat at the red lion xx

Looks like a fairly standard pub from the front of the road but it exceeded our expectations. Covid safety measures were excellent, plenty of space inside and out, we are outside and were surrounded by beautiful flowers. The pub is family and dog friendly too. Menu looked like fairly standard pub grub but was fresh, generous portions and great quality. Particular favourites were the curry, monkfish scampi, cauliflower steaks and the puddings are SO worth saving a bit of space for. Landlady was very friendly and helpful, pub and toilets spotless. Family of 6 adults, 6 mains, 4 puddings and 2 rounds of drinks £140. Well worth the price. The pub is signed up for the government scheme in August so if you are lucky to go then you get a big discount too. Would def visit again when in the area

We were visiting from Wales and found this lovely pub. Food was really good, waitresses were very nice and welcoming. We sat in a lovely beer garden with lots of flowers, growing tomatoes and many tables. it was a really nice setting. Indoors looked good with brand new toilets. I would highly recommend the Red Lion

Good directions. So easy to find. Met up with some of the family for the first time since lock down. All ordered a different main dish, which was obviously cooked to order and really lovely. Taste and presentation were excellent. Staff were lovely and the beer was good too. Don't miss out on a pudding either. My bread and butter one was the best I've tasted in many a long day. The pub had obviously worked hard on their Covid prep as well. Hand sanitizer and temp checks and sign in details. Well worth a visit for a relaxing and excellent meal

Just returned from a delicious lunch at the Red Lion Inn. The safety measures that the pub has put in place due to the pandemic were very reassuring with temperatures being taken on arrival, logging names and addresses, an and in and out entrance and lots of hand sanitizers. The food was delicous and great service.

We came as a family for dinner on our first night staying in the local area on holiday. They are very dog friendly and all the staff are lovely. They have a good selection of food and the portions are a great size. We have since returned and we were definitely not disappointed. Friendly and welcoming; would return again in the future.

Well what a wonderful service offered by Kath and her team ! Found this pub by chance !! Wow so glad we did , very covid friendly felt very safe ! Staff all brilliant , service wonderful and food was gorgeous ! Steaks cooked perfectly , lovely batter on the fish and chips and I had the lamb rump ! One of the best meals I have had for a long time ! Delicious puds too ! Very lovely and certainly recommend this place !

Road trip after many weeks, looking for supper on TripAdvisor red lion looked the bee's knees and yes it was, very good staff, very good organisation of covid rules and very very good food, plus good selection of beers etc, best bread and butter pudding i have ever had, going to return very soon, don't delay book today.

Have come away from home for the first time in months. Some pubs are shut or struggling to revive after such a long and difficult time. We really felt that the front of house lady at the red lion is clearly putting customers first & showed a great level of care and compassion around the ‘new systems’ needed. Really easy, left details, complied with one way and had temperature checked. Nice to sit in a traditional pub and be served decent pub food - really good value and pleasant surprise. We called first to see if food was available which you may want to do owing to unpredictable footfall whilst pubs recover. :-)Thank you staff @ red lion :-)

I am a regular customer at the Red Lion and, like many of my other friends, missed our times there when the Covid lockdown was imposed. In the few days since restrictions have eased, I am delighted to see people returning to both eat and drink. As far as I can see, the government guidelines are being implemented both efficiently and sensitively. As a local I cannot sit at the bar, nor can my terrier, we now sit about six feet away from the bar, and actually nearer the wonderful open fire and have table service. I do see families returning to eat under changed circumstances but they still have great food, excellent service and leave, as they always did, with smiles on their faces.The Red Lion is back, fighting fit and a great place to visit.

After 16 weeks we finally were back to our Favourite pub to dine on our normal table.Recomend any one to visit as every thing had been dealt with as recommend and the food was as good as it always is.

Very professional in making people feel secure and safe ind these difficult coronavirus times. Thus allowing you to concentrate on the wonderful food.

Visited today having booked a table. We were greeted and asked to sign in and had our temperature taken digitally. There are 2 doors so they have designated an 'in' and an 'out'. We were shown to our table, it is table service only and our drinks order was taken. Everyone was friendly and welcoming. Food is reasonable priced considering it is all freshly prepared, good quality and locally sourced. Staff practiced a good level of hygiene, cleaning tables and everything on or surrounding them after every sitting. They are serving food everyday except Sunday evening but are open for drinks.

We had the most delicious Father’s Day roast Sunday lunch from The Red Lion, Peterstow. The food had great flavour and we had more than enough for our family of 5. There was a good selection of meat to choose from, a variety of vegetables, large homemade Yorkshire puddings, and to top it off some lovely gravy. Great hospitality and always greeted with a smile when we pick up the food. We would definitely recommend The Red Lions food for take away or (when we can again) sit down dinner.

Well I was lucky to see a advert that the Red Lion was open doing takeaways! I phoned in early to secure Sunday lunch. I had a pick up time and when I arrived I was greeted with a big smile from Kath the Co owner. You could not go inside but there was sanitisers and wipes on a table by the door to use. I felt very safe with the social distancing. Our lunches were delivered to the table in containers. We had the beef, which was delicious! We 4 veg roast potatoes, new potatoes, Yorkshire pud and gravy. We did miss eating at the pub but it was one step closer to normality. Thank you both for the superb takeaway. We have also got in early with booking a takeaway Sunday lunch for Father’s Day! All adverts are on local Facebook pages. So if you haven’t done it yet, I advise you do it fast as takeaways are getting booked up fast. I have added a photo of the takeaway menu hope it helps everyone

Weve been to The Red Lion Peterstow for years, never had a problem with food or staff there!We were missing our sunday lunches and meals from the red lion through lockdown, so was so happy when we heard that they were doing takeouts on the weekends from now on! Amazing customer service as always, lovely and friendly, our food was ready to take out when we got there and it tasted beautiful like always! We cannot wait for the red lion to reopen its doors in the near future (hopefully) so we can enjoy a beer/wine or 2 in the garden and enjoy the lovely food! Would 100% reccomend and will make do with takeouts for now! Thankyou Kath and Dave! We look forward to seeing Kath, Dave and the staff in the near future xx

Collected a wonderful Sunday lunch here today and it was superb! Have eaten here many times before. Never disappointed. Due to Pandemic not able to eat there but they have now opened for Sunday lunch to be collected. Wasn’t disappointed all the trimmings and hot. Thank you Kath

We had booked the red lion for mother's day Sunday lunch a while ago before the sudden swift movement of the Corona Virus gripped the UK and forced the Pubs/Restaurants on Friday last. Toni and Kath were amazing in communication leafing up to this and rang me almost immediately after the decision to close was made and offered if we wanted, takeaway Roast Dinners. We went with this and it was just superb. We arranged for 2pm to pick it up and got there. Everything was ready and amazingly packed and very hot. We drove the six miles back to the house unwrapped and WOW, what an amazing spread. Just as we had pre ordered. Starters and mains for us all. Thanks you so much Ladies and your chefs. Meats were amazing and great portions (enough for sandwiches today) and veg, gravy and sauces and the most amazing Yorkshires. Once we again have brighter days, we will return and enjoy a proper knees up at the Red Lion, Petersfield. Good luck to you all and stay safe. ❤️

A credit to Kath and staff. Very welcoming and friendly. Excellent menu and food is delicious. Coronavirus had raised its ugly head but Kath was prepared disinfecting chairs tables and all table ware with a large hand sanitizer on the bar for all to use. Very reassuring.Unfortunately the outside front doesn’t do it justice. Go in you’ll be glad you did.

Called in for lunch with a friend just on the off chance. What a good decision. Great friendly staff and good food. We both had a 'small' portion - and we were glad we didn't have the standard, as it was super generous. A good criticism to give any establishment!! One will will definitely be visiting again.

I have always loved the red lion, having a holiday home in the area it is our go to for a nice, chilled pub dinner. Never any hassle and usually always space, it makes for an easy, delicious night. We have been going to the red lion for years, when my grandparents were alive they used to love for us to sit in the conservatory, I believe the red lion has changed hands since but we now love to sit in the comfy inside, close to the fire if possible. Always great food choices, I now don’t eat meat and I can say it’s always a disappointment when I go because I miss the great meat options - especially chicken St David! Great veggie/fish options to cater for all. Huge, generous portions but somehow always manage to make room for a pud. The staff are lovely and the management are always keen to know how the meal has been and if you enjoyed the food. One time however, I was so stuffed I couldn’t eat much of my meal and they offered to charge me less for a smaller meal - I declined because the meal was excellent but it was such a kind offer that you don’t often receive. I love playing the card games on the table and am pleasantly surprised when I get an answer correct. All round a great night and good option for a cosy pub meal, equally nice in summer which a great surrounding view and nice floral garden. Very dog friendly. Couldn’t recommend more!

I called in yesterday at the Red Lion...easy to spot now the hedges are trimmed...lovely as ever-great food-I had the fillet steak teryaki..and great staff-Kath was superb...will be back!!

When I visited The Red Lion back in October I was so impressed I undertook to use it again when I next came up to see the relatives. Well here we are again, on a Sunday this time. I booked a few weeks ago as I (correctly) guessed that it would be a lot busier. On Sundays they offer roast dinners with a variety of meats, plus a couple of vegetarian options. As before, various potion sizes are available; child, OAP, medium and large. Despite the numbers the service was very fast and the food of superb standard. If I was pushed to be really, really picky, I suppose I would say that the stuffing balls were a little hard, but still delicious. Waiting staff were very efficient and attentive, without being obsequious. The place is still spotless. We opted mainly for the medium portions and were more than satisfied. Based on this, I don't think I would attempt the large unless I hadn't eaten since the previous day! The Red Lion will be my first choice when I next come up to Ross, and I would still recommend it without reservation. Cost? Main meals, desserts and drinks for six came to £115, which, given the quality was excellent value. Give it a try!

Just had amazing meal and can’t thank everyone enough. Gorgeous food, fabulous service. Nothing to improve on whatsoever! Will be back and certainly would recommend to all. Wonderful xx

Firstly this lovely couple absolutely know how to serve the perfect pint of ale, best pint of butty bach ive had anywhere and I know a good pint when I taste one, secondly the food is stunning ! We had the lambs liver which was served perfectly with a hint of pink and my other half had the venison and beef pie, both were so tasty and you can tell it's all made from scratch, you just dont find pubs like this anymore, fire was roaring and the service was great ....... amazing

We organised a family gathering today for my Dad's 80th birthday. We had a party of 13 people. The staff was so friendly, helpful and organised it so we had the conservatory area for ourselves.

We went to watch the rugby at The Red Lion last Saturday. Such a lovely friendly bustling atmosphere so we decided to stay after the rugby and have dinner.... lots to choose from but decided to go for the traditional pub grub..... I had the small fish and chips (not so small, it was a normal size dinner) it was fabulous. Lovely beer batter around fresh meaty cod and the homemade tartare was chunky and just delicious. Hubby had a gourmet burger ..,, again a generous portion and could not fault it. Although super busy nothing was too much trouble, service with a smile. Give them a go

This was a chance finding whilst searching for somewhere to have a meal during our journey home. The landlady, Kath, was very welcoming and chatty as were all the staff we encountered. Comfortable and pleasant restaurant in a country pub with a good range of drinks and foods available. Our meals were delicious and the service was very good. The food was reasonably priced and good value. There was plenty of space allocated for car parking. We will definitley be calling here again and making this a regular pit-stop.

Excellent value , good size portions , all food is full of flavour . The side veg are wonderful and service is great for a local pub !

Booked the conservatory for an 80th party, of 20 people. Kath was wonderful, food all came at the same time, staff were very friendly. Had a few different dishes off the menu for our party and everyone commented how lovely it was and as for the desserts they were amazing. Definitely be returning

We enjoyed an excellent New Years Day Meal at The Red Lion. We were a large party of 20 people, and we had our own private area in the conservatory.

Have been coming regularly to the Red Lion for few months. Always good, friendly service and great food.

This was a great find for us, looking for somewhere to eat prior to the New Year festivities getting underway, booked a table for the 2 of us, with our Labrador under it !
