The Railway in Liverpool

This was a bit of an emergency stop as it was a Sunday evening and dinner was required but so many kitchens were closed. And I missed Sunday Roast across town. Big mistake. Anyway, the kitchen here was very close to being closed so I likely got the scraps from leftovers but still no excuse. Very disappointing dish. Beer selection was good and pints were poured well. The young folks tending bar were great so they saved the place. In the end, I’m glad I stopped by.

I can't wait to go back. Everything was excellent! So good, I went twice in 5 days!

Called in unbooked for a Sunday lunch with our cousins from Barcelona who had seen good Trip Advisor reviews.. We were not disappointed and we were seated straight away... we were served by George who welcomed us to the Railway and took our drinks order straight away... 3 course meal was chosen STARTERS Pea & mint soup with crusty bread Pate Bruschetta with mushrooms MAINS Beef & Yorshire pud Chicken & sage Lamb & mint PUDDINGS Sticky toffee pudding & custard All I can say is WOW & everyone enjoyed their meal in great surroundings... So Highly recommended we returned the day after for more food & drinks...if you have the opportunity then call in & say Hi...stay a while and enjoy the food, drinks & atmosphere

Staff bend the rules on different shift times, I always get a takeout from this pub came in asking could I have takeout I then got the reply “it’s up to the staff on shift if they want to do takeout” however any other staff member I’ve engaged with has always been so friendly

Lovely Sunday roast and really great service.

One of the best authentic pubs in Liverpool City Centre. The service is always very friendly and the food is top quality for a price that gives Wetherspoons a run for their money.

Average food, slow service, rude. Made us miss our bus and late for a tour. Didn't even get to finish the Sunday roast. Two hour service trash. Should not take that long. Worst experience in GB & Europe.

This 5 star review is for the kitchen on Saturday 16th March. Your food was reasonably priced and taisted delicious. Beef and ale pie veg and chips washed down with a pint of larger.......perfect!

Nice food good value for money and really plesent staff

Been coming here for many decades and it's not changed a bit. That's the way most of the customers like it. Good selection of food and drink and a nice place to spend an afternoon. I normally go here in the afternoons as I've found that it can get a bit full of an evening.

Good value for money lunch, very friendly staff, very interesting historical Liverpool pub. Still excellent. Tu Back again- we had salt and pepper chicken, chicken burger(more like a generous fillet) , the mega burgers and puds for afters. Everything freshly cooked and delicious. Good value for money for such good food. We had a choice of places to go but grandad and the grandchlidren insisted on visiting again. This pub is so good for everyone whether in working overalls or suits, dresses or jeans, teeshirts or silk blouses! TU for such a warm welcome! The non - scousers among us just can't stop talking about this lovely pub. Ta! Xxxxxx 2024- still vg. Staff are so lovely - a credit to the friendly Liverpool cultural scene, great food, lovely atmosphere . Classic pub, good range of drinks, warming and a good atmosphere.

Waited 40 mins for a burger that was too overcooked, and the bacon was like a crisp, chips were soggy like they'd just come from mic, and worst of al, the coleslaw was off. Absolutely disgusting. Totally ripped off.

The food was OK. Nicely presented. We ordered the chicken and ham pie, spicy chicken and calamari. The pie was nice but could have done with more ham. The spicy chicken was nice and could have had more flavour. The calamari was not good at all, so we sent it back. We did get a refund for it. The staff are very friendly and the service was great. There were a few people in the bar, so there was a good buzz. I would go back to this place even just for a drink.

The service was prompt and very warmly, I had the vegan pie with mash it was very nice but the taste was not as mushroom as it stated but more of a pepper gravy taste still very nice indeed with baby mushrooms inside. I've tried the Hallumi wrap this was also lovely too. Do not get the railway sundae I was very disappointed, I got a bowl of one small scoop of vanilla, chocolate and strawberry flavour ice cream with a sprinkle of toffee. No sauce, no wafer and not much ice cream and no explanation.

Super atmosphere and great food. Steak Fries was the best price/performance I have ever experianced. Almost all dishes are below 10 pounds and portions are huge.

Ordered two different pies and veg etc. Husband got what he ordered after waiting about 45 minutes. Looked good even though it was a long wait. I got the wrong pie. Sent it back and waited another 40 minutes for the right pie but with the wrong accompaniments. Ate it anyway as I was very hungry. Had to ask for the filthy table to be cleaned before we ate. No apologies or asking if the food was ok. Bar staff good and working very hard. Very noisy pub. Won't bother going here again sadly.

Popped in after reading the reviews, lovely decor , nice ambience in the pub friendy staff and nice food & reasonably priced.

We came here last night for drinks, looked at the food menu and decided to come for a late lunch today. I chose the steak baguette with caramelised onions and melted cheese. The pieces of beef were so tender, it tasted lovely, it was accompanied by a basket of chips and a side salad with balsamic dressing, all this for £7.50, absolute bargain! Hubby and son both had the fish finger sandwich, again with chops and a side salad. Both enjoyed their food. Good pub grub at a reasonable price 🥰

Was reccomended to us by a friend and it certainly didn't disappoint. Lovely friendly atmosphere, in a real traditional pub. We all had a meal and it came freshly cooked and piping hot, which we thoroughly enjoyed so much so, we have rebooked for tomorrow. Great place to visit.

The food is okok. There is room for improvement. The sticky toffee pudding was good. calamari as well. Atmosphere is chill and fun. Tables are a bit small for small groups.

Stop off on my way back from work and so was blown away by the vibe and comfy pub/ restaurant tooked away 50 yards from Formby station. Very nice food and excellent choice of ale and large.

Group of 4 came here early Tuesday evening after reading reviews. Not disappointed. £60 for 2 steaks, a chilli and a halloumi burger - all nicely cooked, plus 2 beers and a bottle of shiraz. Coming from down south am in shock at the value. Service was very friendly and attentive. All in all highky recommend.

WOWEE! Where to start? The service in this establishment is second to none. One waitress particularly stood out of the crowd and that would be Lára. What a gem. She was super speedy in seating us and taking our orders, often checking up on us to make sure we were happy with our meals. And we were indeed! The food was absolutely beautiful from start to finish, no complaints from us! Lara is a treasure to the railway, a pay rise is definitely warranted!!!!!!!!

Went for the Sunday lunch with my girlfriend, this is around the 4th time we have been overall, and the railway never ends up disappointing! Our server Louise was fantastic and we will definitely be back again and again as the food is always worth returning for!

First time visitor. Popped in for lunch on a Sunday and opted for the Scouse. It was delicious! The pub itself is very nice and comfortable and the staff were helpful and friendly. I will definitely go again on any return trip to Liverpool.

This is a great pub, we always visit when in Liverpool. The food is usually pretty good standard pub grub but the last couple of times it has been disappointing, and last night it (fish and chips) was dreadful. Shame.
