Great pub in a lovely party of the world. Recommended by one of our party of 5. Hadn’t booked but we were greeted warmly and seated immediately. Busy for a Saturday lunchtime and nice atmosphere. The service was excellent and the food sublime. Special pie of the day was steak Guinness and black pudding which was rated 10/10 by husband. Others had steak pie Red Thai curry (a special) and bbq chicken which was equally as fantastic. Small portions available for the smaller appetite. A really lovely pub and we will be back.

always consistently good, you know its going to be worth the visit, only thing we would change is fresh brown bread to go with fish and chips, two young women managing the bar, waitressing, clearing etc, without any fuss, nothing was too much trouble, give them a pay rise

I’ve passed this place literally hundreds of times over the years, been recommended too, this is definitely a hidden gem in the Yorkshire crown. Visited very last minute, booked via telephone, very accommodating, attended 30 mins later. On arrival we instantly noticed it was a very popular place, coupled with exceptional customer service, we where greeted, offered drinks, then shown to our table in the restaurant area, it was our first visit and everything was explained. After a few moments the same female waitress took our order, called Molly i believe, consisting of Sunday carvery options, with extra trimmings. The food arrived promptly, we were amazed at the size of the Yorkshire puddings, clearly not a factory produced specimen. All of the food was great, the meat was absolutely exceptional. We finished the meal off with cheese cake of the day and coffee, again, both were very nice and individual to the place. Absolutely exceptional service from start to finish. Thank you ! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

While in the area on holiday for the new year, we rang and booked a table for 4 . Warm welcome, friendly staff. A good choice on the menu of pub favourites. We had American chicken, rump steak , fish & chips & small haddock goujons. The food was lovely, fresh, proper chips! Im always wary of the cut rump, but it was cooked perfectly melted in the mouth - compliments to chef! Potions were big and price reasonable. A very warm , comfortable feel to the place. We greedily shared at 2 puddings - both nice 👍🏻 Would definitely reccomended shame we don't live closer to return often.

We brought a party of 25 people in from the Bilton Social Circle for our annual Christmas Lunch. The meal, service and staff were excellent and could not be faulted in any way. The Restaurant was very busy. nothing was to much trouble for the under pressure staff, Well Done every one Brian and Pauline Bilton Social Circle.

Wonderful meal and superb staff as usual. Unfortunately only 4 stars as we couldn’t hear ourselves speak due to a large party of females who insisted on being as noisy and disruptive as possible. Set the smoke alarm off with a birthday candle and had no consideration for the other diners. They either needed to moderate their alcohol intake and have some respect for others or be seated elsewhere other than the restaurant area. Other tables commented on how noisy they were and how it had spoilt their evening too. Such a shame as it is usually a lovely place to dine.

Another lovely Sunday roast at The Railway. Opted for small plate with one meat, they do offer a selection but too much last time. Great friendly service, you must book to avoid disappointment.

We visited last night and were pleasantly surprised to find a winter warmers menu with 3 courses for £16. Every course, we had 3, was amazingly good. We would happily choose exactly the same again, each course was perfect, the syrup sponge with cream was divine. Cannot wait to return next time we are in the area.

Well this is a little gold mine not to be missed. We were staying nearby in a lodge with a pub on sight but reviews were not great so decided to try the highly recommended railway inn. Being gluten free I couldn’t believe the choice on the menu and never have I been able to order a gluten free pie and chips before when out. The pie was filled with lots of lean steak and was freshly made, piping hot. My partner had the “hunters chicken” again an excellent dish with lots of pure meat. Can not recommend the food highly enough and very reasonable for the quality. Staff very pleasant and attentive. A proper country pub with high quality home cooked food!

We went at 5.30pm on Saturday night with no booking and were told they were full...... but Jolene was so helpful and said wait 10 mins some people might be going soon, and she got us in. The staff were amazing! My wife had the chicken skewer and it was amazing! I had the steak pie and chips, wowww! One of the best pies I have ever had. The atmosphere was lovely, with a nice chilled vibe. The only tiny criticism would be the wait time for the food to arrive, which was 45 minutes. If they can speed that up a touch, this place would be 5 star in my book. And it was worth the wait tbh. Overall a great place and had a brill night. I visited with family for a special lady’s 88th birthday. It certainly didn’t disappoint! I got a mixed meat roast dinner which was delicious, lovely amount of meat accompanied by freshly piped mashed potato, roast potatoes and a massive Yorkshire pudding. Great amount of veg and as much gravy as you care to have! We certainly will be returning, maybe next time I’ll have the pie as I got serious food envy when I saw one of our parties pie! Lovely food!

I often stay at the railway inn for work. This was the first time I had food. Many of my colleagues have praised the food and they were not wrong. The choice was very good for a start. I had the haddock gujons and proper chips. It was very good!! The beer selection is also great and the atmosphere is really friendly. The staff couldn’t be more helpful. I feel very welcome here and will keep coming back.

Classic pub fayre. Served promptly by helpful staff and we weren’t waiting an age for the food to come out. Pub very busy so popular with tourists and locals alike.

We were spoilt for choice at The Railway. We opted for chicken and tarragon pie with new potatoes (the potatoes are always so good) and the Yorkshire pudding loaded with roast beef which was a huge portion, both off the specials. Glad we booked as it was busy even on a Wed at 6.30pm. Can't wait to go again next time we're staying at Willow Pastures, it's a nice walk along the trail.

The best scampi & chips we have ever had. Huge portions, amazing service & very clean. We traveled from Chester to see family and brought my grandma to her favourite restaurant, never disappointed.

We had Sunday lunch and it was generous, perfectly cooked and delicious. I was the only one with the traditional roast meal, and I love that there are options for everyone. From an authentically-spiced thai green curry, to fish goujons to a truly "home made from scratch" steak mushroom and red wine pie. We live nearby and go often . We are never disappointed.
