The Queen's Head in Guildford

They advertise a set price menu Monday to Friday lunchtime but when you've booked and arrive yell you there not doing it today. Very disappointing

The roast lamb was “ the toughest I’ve ever eaten”’ said one of my party. I also had the lamb as the sirloin of beef was off, and can’t disagree. On paying the waiter acknowledged that other people had said the same. Not to mention that the waitress smashed a glass of wine all over the table and my jeans, after clearing the mess they just replaced the one glass.

Booked up for an early sitting 6.00pm . Took my 80 year old mum for Sunday roast treat , 10 mins after we sat down the waiter comes over and said all the roasts have gone now including all roast potatoes. My mum was so looking forward to a nice Sunday roast and this pub failed. We left the place and found a lovely place just down the road .avoid this place if you don't want to be disappointed

Had the unfortunate experience today. we were a party of 3, 2 of us had the fish and chips. Which re regretted the nicest part was the chips, the fish was almost cremated and not edible.

Nice food . Dirty table we were told wasn't ready then it was . Only fault was they don't tell you food doesn't come with any veg . If we hadn't thought to ask we would have been very disappointed when food arrived. Apart from that ok .

Had a great evening. The atmosphere is great and the staff was amazing. Dijon chicken was well prepared and very flavorful. Deserts were amazing.

The best roast dinner this year, Every bit tasty, plates could be hotter in my opinion, We sat at the bar and ordered our food at said bar. I thought adding a service charge was a bit steep, We had to get our own cutlery and we got our drinks from the bar. We had no service at this point. We let it slide, the food was amazing, roast belly of pork and the vege wellington, -the confit new potatoes, maybe they ran out. The bar area seemed to be the meeting/gossip point for the staff, we were in ear shot of some fruity conversations. I'm just picking holes here, New favourite place to eat, will definitely return and boom a table this time.

A really solid lunch or dinner venue. Food is good and good value. Staff are superb. A nice old pub setup with lots of nooks and crannies. Great real fire. Easy parking.

A very pleasant lunch with cricketing friends. We were very well looked after-many thanks to Diana - and the meals were delicious. Many thanks to all for a most enjoyable experience.

Sadly our meal didn’t justify the cost.The staff were efficient in sorting our tough beef roast and lamb roast, replacing with chicken,but we hadn’t gone there for a chicken roast which we get at home. We felt disappointed with the food, excellent staff. Even the £8.50 desserts were not of a high standard, hard profiteroles. Sorry Queens Head, really not up to the higher prices charged, maybe a chocolate or biscuit with coffee? This was a birthday lunch which didn’t match our expectations.

A lovely atmosphere with a log fire in winter, great food and it’s do friendly! What’s not to love.

Thank you so much to all the fab team at the Queens Head we didn’t book until the day before and we were 12 people (mix of adults kids and dogs) and although they were busy they were able to book us in for 1415 - we were looked after brilliantly and the food was good! Great to see this lovely little local pub thriving again 🤩

Award winning? What possible award could that be? Wasn't expecting much being Boxing Day but why establishments bother losing any future custom by operating badly on such days baffles me. The worst afternoon tea experience I have ever had the misfortune of having to sit down to. Afternoon tea is supposed to be a treat (well especially considering the price charged), not a delayed, crammed in experience, where when asked for coffee instead of tea, was told it only came with tea? What?? No spoons even to stir said tea, everyone used end of forks to stir their teas. Very underwhelmed... scones nice, sandwiches ok, cakes (not good at all), never again for me or anyone with any connection to my family at least. Spoilt what was supposed to be a special occasion, lesson learnt. Also any management response comments are meaningless, you have lost custom, no-one cares thereafter unfortunately. Pity I don't have any connections associated to this pub group to give them a hard reality check based on this experience.

Disappointing meal. It was quiet for Saturday night before Christmas, sadly nothing Christmasy on the menu, but lots of things on the menu had already run out. The main courses were underwhelming. The waitress was polite but the service was really slow, by dessert 2 dishes came out and we then waited almost 20 minutes for the remaining 4 dishes to come out.

What a disappointment. We'd been here a few times for drinks and once for a fantastic breakfast and loved the atmosphere. Tonight we went for a birthday meal. When we asked our Server what pastry the pie used (my dining partner doesn't like suet pastry) the server looked genuinely confused even when we asked if it was puff, shortcrust or suet. If he didn't know he should have at least offered to ask the Chef. He wasn't the sort of person I would hire for a customer facing role, seemed disinterested and lacked confidence. We ordered the burger, mine medium and the other burger well done. Somehow the medium one managed to come out overcooked and but with a bit of pink inside, yet really really dry. I've had better Burger King burgers. The place was dirty too, marks in the carpets, dust over the items on the shelves and lamps, windows that clearly haven't been cleaned for some time. For the amount that food costs here thats unforgivable. I hate to think what the kitchen is like. To cap it all, no one asked if we wanted deserts or coffee or what we thought of our meal. I suspect they wouldn't have liked the answer. Won't be coming back - there are far cheaper pubs with better food we can go to.

A group of us went to the Queen’s Head for our annual get together I decided to select my meal from the a la carte menu, rather than the Festive menu.For my main course I decided on the Seared Flat Iron Steak with herb crusted Portobello mushroom, beersamic dressed watercress, peppercorn sauce and skin on fries £23.95. I couldn’t believe what I was served, the steak appeared to be ok, but not the largest I’d seen, the chips were in a steel cup and resembled KFC chips and the Portobello mushroom appeared to be a slice and not a whole mushroom. I hadn’t ordered the Peppercorn sauce as I don’t like it, however there was no alternative. There was no sign of the watercress, it transpired that they had run out. I queried the lack of food and was told that was the normal serving so I asked for an additional portion of Cauliflower Cheese to go with it and bolster up the meal. I started to eat the meal, it was lukewarm. I pointed this out to the waitress, who apologised and called her supervisor, my meal was replaced as it was well below standard. The new meal was totally different, well cooked, had a complete mushroom, still with KFC chips, they used Rocket to replace the Watercress and it was hot. They also brought out the cauliflower cheese. So although the first plate was absolutely terrible, they did redeem themselves, however they also charged me full price. What worries me though is that if I hadn’t complained about my meal being cold, they would of been quite happy to leave me with the original below standard serving and the additional side dish. I have attached a photo of my original plate, the carrot was given to me by a friend who felt sorry for me. Is that a la carte???

I cannot thank the staff enough for making our Christmas lunch so special. The food could not be faulted and the hygge factor was off the scale. Cosy, inviting, good service and really well cooked food.

Our party of 11 enjoyed a variety of dishes from the menu....all were lovely and hot, beautifully presented and really tasty!

Extremely disappointing. Food very average, had to send fish and chips and a burger back. Really, I mean these are the two most popular and easy dishes to cook! Huge lack of communication between staff & manager. Was told manager would come over to talk to us, eventually had to ask again to see the manager. He was very apologetic, but considering our reservation was at 6.00 and by this time it was 8.15 and we only ordered one course each we had had enough. They did adjust the bill, but it was all a big disappointment. Appreciate that it is the festive season but if the kitchen can’t cope with the numbers, then there is a serious on going problem. Also check your bill carefully!

I had a very lovely lunch here. The pub was quite big and had a lovely log burner fire. There was a good range of delicious food items. Dogs are welcome. Would recommend.

A delightful festive meal, excellent quality, attentive service, all in front of a warm log fire. Perfect stop after a busy day.

We frequent here for special dinners and the food never disappoints. I am coeliac (gluten free) and it’s lovely having a dedicated menu of tasty meals. The team are knowledgable and friendly.

Nineteen of us for an eightieth birthday celebration, everything went very well, the food was great and the service efficient. The manager Steve was particularly helpful with advice and his personal attention. Would thoroughly recommend.

Starters and main courses arrived at the same time. Standard of starters adequate but nothing special. Main course tiger prawn Thai curry was a few bulk buy low quality prawns lost in a bowl of sauce. Manager was called. Poor handling of complaint. Matcha latte served luke warm. Serving staff very pleasant although inexperienced. Won't be rushing back or recommending.

Absolutely fabulous little find, cosy, great food, friendly atmosphere. Staff very attentive. Sat and had a wonderful time catching up with my friend. Definitely worth a visit. Thank you 😊

Judging by what others were eating this lovely venue should stick to lunch and dinner only. The afternoon tea which was a gift was way below my expectation the tea was weak with only one teabag and not boiling. The sandwiches delicious but not great variety. The pre-made cakes were not all fresh and the scone definitely not fresh they were cut and warmed to make them seem fresh so tasted fine but was crunchy on the outside like a biscuit

We went to celebrate my birthday with my son and partner as we have seen it recommend a number of times. Sadly, we possibly caught them on an off day. We ordered the starters, prawn cocktail for me which arrived with no bread and a soup for my son which was in a tiny jug and also had no bread. I suppose we could of asked but felt this was obviously the way they served them. The mains arrived all roast dinners. There was no mint jelly with the lamb and no apple sauce for the pork. There was only enough roast potatoes for 3 each and most of them were small. We had also asked for the complimentary extra roast but they never arrived. We then had dessert which was fine. The service was okay but we had to keep asking for different things that should of been included even having to obtain salt and pepper. I think we will give it another chance but maybe not on a Sunday.

After many enjoyable visits this was a disappointing experience. We're a table of 2 in a room with another 2 and a table of approx 14 ! - far too many for the room size- We could barely hold a conversation. Food not very hot, and lamb rather tough. Service slow, but poor girl was run off her feet. We won't be visiting for Sunday lunch again

Very disappointed all round 20 mins to be offered a drink then when we ordered we had a starter and a roast with portion of cauliflower cheese when the starter came prawn cocktail was offered no starter cutlery so had to use a main course fork when the main came a roast dinner veg on side no serving spoon and veg consisted of 1 carrot on the plate and on the side green cabbage and red cabbage no green beans or cauliflower or broccoli nothing but cabbage to top it all despite asking several times Where's the cauliflower cheese we adventuly got offered it when nearly finished My beef which was 22.50 was miniscule 66 pounds for a really poor meal and went home hungry as for lashings of gravy I don't think so

Went there first time Tuesday, staff friendly and helpful and food very good - best fish pie I can remember. On the strength of that went today for Sunday lunch - very disappointed. Despite being first there, the food was lukewarm, limited choice of veg, packet crackling, tough skinned potatoes ( very good yorkshires), etc. Atmosphere and staff very good but the biggest hit was the cost of the drinks both times, way above my local, which is not cheap. Reluctant to repeat.

what a shame - great reviews, but despite ordering at just after 12.15 pm (ie before the lunchtime rush) food took over an hour to arrive - 2 meals were brought out before the other 2 (and they were cold) -then it took another 30 mins for them to arrive together, small portions (i think 4 small prawns in the thai curry), they forgot one of the dishes ... and they still ended up charging us c£50 ...poor effort all round

My husband and I stopped by The Queen's Head last Thursday evening on the off chance they may have a table available for early dinner. We were greeted with a very warm welcome from a gentleman stood behind the bar and given choice of dining tables in two cosy dining areas, we had starters and mains both arrived promptly and were very well presented. My husband had the steak from the specials menu and I had steak from the dinner menu. My husband drew the short straw and was the designated driver he had non alcaholic Guinness while I was able to enjoy a couple glasses of sauvignon blanc which was lovely, our drinks orders were taken quickly and the lady and gentlemen serving were both very attentive. Overall it was a very pleasant and cosy dining experience the only negative was that we didn't have time to stay for dessert as we had to collect our children from their grandparents.... Went there for a Sunday roast. We had a reservation for 4pm. The service was great, they were super friendly with our two dogs and the food was exceptional BUT, very much to our disappointment they came back twice to let us know something had sold out. It seems a common theme, reading other reviews on here so I would hope the pub is learning from that and stocking up to avoid disappointed customers. However, I’ve never had a better roast beef in a pub … so still 5 stars.

Went for lunch on Saturday. Waited a while to be seated even though it wasn’t very busy. It was a brunch menu which we felt, at 2pm, was a bit odd. Nevertheless we ordered our ‘lighter bites’. They were in fact starters although they tasted nice. We asked to order desert and more drinks. Waited ages! Asked again. Waited again. Eventually another staff member came over and we asked to cancel the drinks order and get the bill as we had waited so long. For 2 drinks and 2 starters our bill was over £40! I was then ill all evening. The only thing I ate was the food at the pub. So disappointing. Won’t be back.

My friend had booked a table for 2 of us from 12.30 (to 2.15). (i) I arrived spot on 12.30 and gave the name of my friend but was assured no table had been booked in that name, even after I had repeated it several times and spelt it. Luckily my friend was already at the table and emerged to find me. (ii) Our menu selections were taken by 1pm, but the starters did not arrive for 1/2 hour and we then had to wait until 2.45pm for the mains to arrive, and that only after we had chased the food 3 times. There was no apology or explanation for these unacceptable delays. (iii) Although the fish pie main we both selected was unavailable, the food was quite acceptable albeit typically a bit pricey. However, the service was unbelievably awful.

Went to the queens head for Sunday lunch and had a reservation for 4 o’clock.The web site said the Sunday menu finished at 8. Inside the pub seemed quite quiet but had to wait a bit at the bar before someone appeared. They showed us to the table and gave us water and the Sunday lunch menu. Then nothing for 20 minutes. So we then tried to order some drinks and some roast dinners to be told they had sold out and we shouldn’t have been given the sunday menu. Total waste of time. So we went somewhere else. Bad customer service and appalling communication. I am local and have been to the pub many times over the years but looking at other reviews we may have dodged a bullet.

Came all the way from London as I’d heard great things and had a wonderful night from start to finish. The Deputy Manager Kate was incredibly welcoming, charismatic and professional. The menu items were explained clearly and with good detail, and the food we ate was lovely! Drinks were served promptly from the friendly team member behind the bar and the restaurant and facilities were very clean. I would definitely return and recommend this to my friends.

Terrible Sunday roast for almost £20 - very dry roast potatoes, dry roasted half carrot and parsnip. Although the portion were not big, people didn’t finish any of the vegetables. Braised cabbage was basically barely boiled cabbage, limp, dull, hard and completely tasteless. Tasteless lamb roast. 2 slices of pork belly roast not much bigger than 2 rashes of bacon. Had to return a dessert as it was dodgy. One guest refused to take away the food for their missing spouse because it was not worth it. Had to check for the desserts because guests were getting bored from waiting and waiting. Dirty and smelly toilets with rubbish on the floor and paper towels were gone before 2pm. I deeply regret choosing this place.

Nice place for a few drinks or a nice meal

Booked for my wife’s birthday Sunday lunch. When we arrived had to wait to be seated. When seated we waited and waited and waited for someone to come for our drinks order. Nobody came so we had to go to the bar to get someone to come to our table to order drinks. We ordered drinks and our main course. When the food arrived it looked very underwhelming to say the least. The lamb was just ok and the vegetables were mediocre. After we had finished the table was only partially cleared,nobody came to ask if we wanted desert or coffees and teas. In the end I just paid the bill and went. I felt so sorry for the overworked staff who did their best. Unfortunately this as a birthday treat didn’t turn out as planned. Queens Head don’t take so many covers if you can’t cope.

a little bit disappointed but overall a good time to say the least. came down for a roast dinner with the wife but we were really let down with the presentation of our meals. my wife had the lamb and i had the sirloin special, unfortunately the portion was less than i had imagined for the price of £22 with no Yorkshire puds nor any carrots. none the less the food tasted brilliant, i just wish there had been more to it/ nothing missing. other than that the young lady who's name we didn’t catch that served us outside was astounding, she understood our issue with the portion size and fixed it immediately bringing out extra veggies in place of yorkies and carrots. not only was she fast at accommodating to our needs, she kept clam and continued to provide when other customers around us were not so friendly. i would like to thank both her and the rest of the staff for a good evening

Tricky one. In the past it's been great, wonderful food during Sundays and the week but on this Sunday visit. Food was mediocre at best. Bit of a disappointing affair. Wrapping grey/pinky white chicken meat around a very good stuffing doesn't make a Sunday lunch. Roast potatoes were underdone overall. Great staff and a great location though.

Super service with decent drinks and, on Saturdays, a reasonable daytime brunch menu.

I drove past and decided to pop in , I'm glad I did , I had a quick pint , but staff was welcoming , and what I saw and smelt of the food , I would definitely make time for some food next time I'm passing

I’ve been going to the Queens head on and off for the past 6 years. We went on Friday evening and it was dead! Menu still looks good, but for the price you pay now, you don’t get the service it comes with and quality of food wasn’t great. Unfortunately I won’t be going back to eat, just another pub for a drink in the summer.

We visited on a Monday evening, there were 2 staff front of house who were clearly struggling with the volume of visitors and the service was very slow, there was a regular car club meeting there ( seeing as this is a regular meeting you’d have thought the place would have been more prepared and had more staff on duty as the 2 guys were really struggling! we had the fish and chips which were over cooked and very dry and we were generally disappointed with the food which is quite unusual for the Queens Head.

Unfortunately skrimpflation has hit the Queen's Head. I have been coming here for 10 years for their Sunday roast, the best in Surrey and beyond. The high-quality meat roasts used to be abundant, served with seasonal veggies presented on a large platter. Today, although the quality of the meat is still good, the portion is much reduced and the platter of veggies replaced by a few presented on the plate. For those that have never been, and know no different, none the wiser. For those who have been coming for years, somewhat disappointing.

Návštěva zařízení v páteční poledne. Čekání na jídlo tak akorát. Obsluha velmi milá a příjemná. Jídlo famózní. T-steak, hranolky, salát a pepřová omáčka. Fish and chips. Zatím nejlepší, co jsme v Anglii jedli.

Good menu options Good food tasty and well presented. defo above the usual standard pub. Kids burger a bit overcooked Service was good.

We popped in here for a late breakfast. Staff were extremely friendly and it is also very much a dog friendly pub. The breakfast was excellent and very good value. By the time we left the pub was full of diners so obviously a very good sign. We will certainly be going back soon. Well done to all of you and thank you for making the effort in making us feel welcome.

Did have any food so one star . Nice little pub never knew it was there new discovery for me friendly and helpful staff .

Can't fault the service. Food however was disappointing. Potato's, carrots and parsnips needed another half hour in the oven. Cauliflower cheese was like milk. Yorkshire over cooked. The chicken was some kind of abomination with stuffing. We've eaten a few times here but not a roast, and definitely won't be having another.

Nice atmosphere, friendly and efficient service and although the food was typical pub grub it was testy and well presented. I would have no problems in recommending this establishment to friends.

Risotto was guite good, the portions were large.

Looking forward to going to The Queen’s Head for lunch as we had been a few times before, but what a disappointment. We were kept waiting before we were shown to the table, however the staff were friendly enough. Sadly the food was not so good. My husband had to return his fish and chips, never seen fish like this, was offered a replacement meal, but declined. Our friends on another table had the same problem with the fish and chips, it looked as though it had been precooked and then cooked again. Three of our party had Chicken Milanese and again, it was so over cooked. When the desserts came up two of them were missing the ice cream and when we explained to the waiter he did bring a double portion of the ice cream, which should have been salted caramel, but looked liked it was just ice cream with a syrup poured over. A saving grace was that we were not charged for the fish and chips, which my husband had returned as in edible. Sadly we will not be returning to this pub and our friends feel the same.

8 of us had a very good visit for Sunday lunch, All the staff very pleasant and helpful.

Grovelling patronising Manager….rushing around and forgetting to pour drinks…. Our waitress was charming and helpful We ordered Cornish crab and crème fraiche risotto Not one piece of Crab to be seen in either …. Apparently it’s Crab flavour 🤷‍♀️….£15 Maybe if we’d ordered Chicken pie it wouldn’t have actually chicken and just be chicken ‘flavour’ Heard through the grapevine that this is often complained about…..Seemingly management or chef couldn’t care less.

Love this place! We made an impromptu visit yesterday afternoon for a few drinks and snacks. Glorious Provencal rose available and some really tasty treats. I ordered the sourdough bread (crisp on the outside, delightfully soft inside) with delicious salty butter and then the piece de resistance, the bang bang cauliflower. I was convinced that my kids would hate even the look of it and so was anticipating eating it all. Alas, it looked spectacular and I had to share. Crisp, a touch spicy, scattered with sesame seeds. We'll be back for lunch/dinner!

Lovely pub. Went on Father's Day, which had been their busiest day for some years. The staff were still attentive and the food delicious.

We would have given the pub 5 stars if they hadn't kept us waiting 30 minutes for a fish finger sandwich. They were courteous enough to offer a half of bitter and packet of crisps while waiting (nicely handled). The food was rather good. Certainly worth the visit in the end. TIP: When you order, ask how long the food will take BEFORE you pay!

Friendly service but extremely, extremely slow, even for a salad and deserts. Steak meat changed as not available and was over-raw not medium/medium rare. Need to seriously improve.

I was a little worried to read some recent negative reviews as this is one of our favourite destinations for a family meal. Honestly I should not have been concerned as this lovely place is still on top form. The front of house team are keen, welcoming and friendly. The food is cooked really well, served at a good pace, and portion sizes are not too large and not too small. Our son reckoned his roast lamb was one of the "tastiest ever", my chicken ballotine was delicious and not dry, and the carrots had an intriguing twist courtesy of the resident chef. Wow what a wonderful pub restaurant, we booked in the Sunday Roast. 👍 Food absolutely delicious, 👌I had pork belly, and a huge yorkshire pudding and for dessert I had cherry ripple sundae. Lovely pub with a great outside eating area. Stopped for lunch. They'd had a few problems that day, so service was slow. But the food was well worth the wait. I had the Fish Finger sandwich. The description really doesn't do it justice. It was two small battered fillets of fish, served in a brioch like sandwich and with chips. Very tasty. They also handled the delay well, offering us an extra drink to compensate.

This was one of our favourite places to eat. But this is the second time we have come away disappointed. A few months ago, April I think, we brought our friends and daughter for a celebratory birthday lunch. On arrival we were told they were a bit short staffed so the service might be slow, which it was. An hour before our lunch time today we receive a call to say they had a problem in the kitchen so the lunch menu would be limited. As we had friends already enroute we said we would still come. The menu on arrival was basically sandwich’s with fries or a side salad. Ice cream or sorbet for dessert. The food was very mediocre for the price. We were the only table occupied inside and two or three outside. However, we waited nearly 40 minutes for our food to arrive! A considerable bill for what we had. The three staff who served us were very pleasant so no problem there. Not sure what is going on with their kitchen. When I went to the ladies there were bits of tissues on the floor, toilets were not great either and not a great odour either. As it wasen't busy I wonder when they had been cleaned last. I don’t think we would return again.
