I always find the staff friendly, the ale and bitter well kept and I like the bar snacks. Fried chicken and also had their chicken wings, very good.

Got the veggie roast, Wellington was nice but was a bit plain. Unlimited gravy (and roast potatoes) were a welcome touch but the roast potatoes looked and tasted deep fried. Got busier when we left about 4-430, was quiet and easier to get a table when we arrived at 3pm. Friend who got the beef was much happier.

One of the best roast dinners that we have experienced in London. We made the visit to Crouch End purely to visit The Queens on the recommendation of a number of locals. A very cosy restaurant with a large seating area, we were seated at a table for 2 in the far right corner by the food counter - arguably the nicest table in the place. Could not fault the service, the food was perfectly cooked, plentiful and of a very high quality. The only minor comment that we both made was that we would have liked a few more roasties (but then who doesn’t). A definite must visit!

12.5% service charge automatically added to the bill - staff are little off hand as they don’t need to try in order to receive a tip. Tips should be discretionary and staff should ‘earn’ them. Food ok but nothing special - pasta slightly under cooked and the steak burger was made with onions which overshadowed the flavour of everything else. We could hear the kitchen staff from our table who were swearing at one another. The best part was the building itself - lovely. We’ll be giving this one a miss.

Disappointing, not sure what has happened to the place or if it's under new management. Choice of beers not great, limited menu. I had a steak burger, it looked great on paper, not on the plate. Wetherspoon's special would be many levels above. Wasn't even asked if we were happy with the food, you know, the usual mid eating question. At a £120 for 3 people, Wetherspoon's definitely would have been the better option.

We have been going to this gorgeous pub for years now. The Sunday roast is so delicious and the portion is generous too compared to the other places that we have been. We also order fish fingers for our little one that turned out to be a piece of a fish cured into few pieces ( not a shop bought fish fingers) which was delicious. It’s usually fully booked on Sundays in the dining area so better to book a table in advance. They also have a heated garden area and the bar side where they serve food as well as drinks. They don’t do chicken roast any more which is shame and I hope we see that coming back to the menu in future . 😊

The Queens' Sunday menu had been recommended to me. I checked the menu: it said the sirloin of beef is served pink. It wasn't; it was brown. More to the point, it was too tough to eat (and I've got all my teeth!) and fairly tasteless. The carrots were OK. The green veg was somewhat overcooked. Since I was lunching with someone I don't know that well, I let it be. She ate maybe half of her porchetta. However, I was surprised that my uneaten meal was removed without a query about why it was practically untouched. The coffee was good.

I've been going to the Queens for over 20 years - but only infrequently, when I visit a nearby friend. The pub has changed over the years, of course, but has managed to keep something of a 'village pub' vibe. Architecturally, it still has true Victoriana. Refurbs over the years have not been allowed to kill that. Long gone is the live band in the large room, but also the slightly pretentious 'gastro pub' that it was swaying towards at one point, maybe a decade ago It's now back to being a 'friendly local' - even for those of us who are not truly 'local'. In summer, or for the smokers in winter, there's a good rear yard with plenty of seating, covered & heated when necessary. I hear the food's still good, but I haven't actually eaten there in a while.

It's a bit worrying when you walk into a pub for lunch and the staff kind of ignore you. The manager could see we were waiting and came over and took us to a couple of reserved tables. He seemed to want us to sit next to another couple, with about a foot between the tables. We didn't and sat at the table next to that. It wasn't busy for a sunday and it was odd that he did that but whatever. Logistics? Anyway nice young woman came and took our drinks orders and was very pleasant if a bit flustered. Ordered starters and the porchetta. It's a lovely Victorian pub and we had a nice natter before the padron peppers and bao crispy beef turned up. Both were really nice, and well cooked. Then things went a bit pear shaped. Firstly my roast arrived but not my partner's as the waitress admitted she had forgotten to order it, just having asked for one main. She offered a comp dessert and was super apologetic. Mistakes happen so we were all fine with that but not so much with the porchetta. Expecting pork wrapped around a herb stuffing instead I had cremated meat next to a weird disc of paxo. The meat was so overcooked three hours later I could still taste the it and not in a good way. How the kitchen had thought it ok to send this out was beyond me. Yorkshire was also charred and the potatoes were pretty crap. I asked for more gravy and got a jug of what tasted like stock, it was so salty to be inedible. When my partner's food arrived she was already off put by the state of my plate and was massively unimpressed. Her yorkie arrived, burnt a few minutes later. We ate here a few months back and it was superb despite it being super busy, yesterday it was half empty and so not sure what was happening, there were two chefs in the kitchen and only maybe 10 tables. We complained to the manager without making a rumpus and pretty much said the above. He comped the mains without any argument which was good of him but he could see how bad it was just looking at the plates. Shame because this is a decent pub.

They were frozen standard chips that one could get in a local cafe ,put on the plate . Sorry but at the price we paid and the standard and reputation of the Queens I would have expected hand cut chips as you get most of the pubs in crouch end and other good pubs that do food . The only pub I would expect chips of this kind would be Wetherspoons , and if I am honest the chips in the Mosey in Muswell Hill Wetherspoons are better , sorry The Queens but on this bases I would not recommend you to anyone .

I'm being nostalgic and selfish at the same time. But there was a time when this Victorian Gin Palace was a lovely quiet retreat with high vaulted ceilings. Perfect for sitting with a cryptic crossword for an hour. Nowadays it's noisy and crowded, especially in the Summer months in the garden. At least it's survived. Very unprofessional. Me and my partner booked for a Christmas Dinner as proposed in a printed menu exposed in the pub. The Christmas Dinner menu included 1 starter, 1 main course and 1 pudding at a fixed price. On the day of the booking, after being seated, we are presented with a completely different menu, similar to the usual menu with only some Christmas additions. Importantly, this menu did not have a fixed price but individual prices. Inquired, the waiter told us that running the Christmas menu was "too much for the kitchen" and they decided to cancel it. We don't question the decision of changing menus but we should have been informed of the change before the day of the booking. As a compensation for having been lured in on false premises we have received n°2 mince pies free of charge.
