The Queen Inn in Torfaen

Spectacular and xcellent food, great service. Friendly staff. Beautiful location and thoroughly recommend this establishment to anyone. Loved it.

We'd been meaning to visit the Queen Inn for a while, and decided it would be a nice treat for our first wedding anniversary. We booked for dinner on the Saturday night, and returned for Sunday lunch the next day. Both meals were outstanding, it was great being able to enjoy old favourites like stilton sauce and yorkshire pudding, but veganised! What made the meal so memorable was the staff's attentiveness, they were all so lovely and went above and beyond to make our meal special. We can't wait to go back!

Another visit with friends and family who are not Vegan! Between the 2 tables there was 6 of us, we had the crispy chilli beef and the crab cakes to start, the flavours just blow us every time. We had the Queen inn Burger, The Fish and chips, The Lamb Kebab, Chicken and Ribs combo and the Massive Sharing platter. Again the food is always cooked superbly and the staff love what they do you can see this everytime we go there! Desserts and coffees to finish! We advise even if your not Vegan and love excellent food served by great staff a visit to the Queen inn is a must!

We had the “B*ef lasagne - £12.00” & “ Crispy chilli b*ef - £13.00”. Meal was absolutely awesome, it could not have been better. Staff were lovely, happy, polite and caring. Portion size was big (much to my husbands delight). I thought the cost was good. My husband had cherry lattice pie and ice cream for desert (although I was full I had to try some) and it was lovely.

Great food again. Always tasty and filling. Recommend loaded nan although adding dirty chips was perhaps a step too far. Beer excellent too. Always an interesting ale to try here.

Me and a friend finally paid a visit at the end of February after saying we need to for years, and I’m so glad we did! I’d never tried meat-alternatives before as I’m not a veggie myself, but the chilli b*eef stir fry was absolutely fantastic and easily the best stir fry I’ve eaten. The waitress even said it was her favourite thing on the menu too. The pub itself was cosy and clean, lots of parking, and we’ll definitely be back in the summer to utilise the outdoor space - it’s huge! It’s also been a while since I’ve experienced service as good as I experienced here, our waitress was friendly, honest, funny, knowledgable, and just genuinely seemed to love her job. Having worked for plenty of awful pub owners in my time, I think this must be a testament to how well this place is run behind the scenes. (I didn’t catch our server’s name but she said she usually works behind the bar, and bakes cakes for her day job - so I just wanted to say thank you!) We’ll definitely be back!

Fantastic Vegan pub, with wonderful staff and such a welcoming atmosphere! I took my large dog with me and he was provided with a blanket to sit on the chairs, and then able to sit to the table with us. He had a bowl of sausages and a drink of water whilst we had a delicious Vegan Sunday roast, after a lovely starter. Locals are really friendly - totally unpretentious and like a regular old fashioned pub, but with lovely vegan food on offer. Bloody brilliant. Will come again - for sure.

Am overjoyed to have found this gem. The Queen Inn surpassed every hope that I had for a vegan restaurant. Visited at lunchtime with my husband and our very large Irish Wolfhound. We were welcomed so warmly by staff and patrons alike. I had forewarned them that our dog was large and they had thankfully put us at a table with lots of room for the dog to lie down. We ordered the mixed grill share platter and sausages for the dog.... I almost feel that I can't do the venue justice with my review. It was AMAZING! The whole meal was exceptionally outstanding. I have been vegetarian for over 30 years and I can honestly say that this restaurant left me feeling elated, giggly, amazed and of course very full. The fake meats were chewy, sinuey and gloriously tasty. The black pudding... OMG was so good. My husband is a meat eater and was amazed. We are already looking at our calendar to rebook when we are in town next.

First time at The Queen Inn. Won't be the last. Weather was not good but the setting was still lovely. Staff helpful and friendly. Food was brilliant no complaints at all. There was 12 of us and everyone really enjoyed their food. Not a vegan or even vegetarian. Loved it!

Imagine a friendly, cosy Welsh pub, staffed by happy, engaged, attentive staff and serving the tastiest, most excellent typical pub-fare alongside a thoughtful & wide-ranging drinks choice. This is The Queen. As a 40 year in veggie, I've never experienced this concept and I'm so impressed. If you're not a veggie - don't worry, you won't even notice the meat is missing. The Queen is now my go-to when I'm here visiting family. Best. Place. Ever!

We were up from Cornwall for a weekend in Wales and on the way home we had a birthday lunch to have, and what better choice than searching out the Queen Inn. It had to be done, what with all the great reviews. The staff were so friendly, as were the locals, and the only difficulty was trying to choose what to have out of the vast vegan menu. Phil celebrated with a Scally Wag ale, recommended by the barman (which he loved), whilst we chose. Phil went for the Chilli Beef stir fry with a side of spring rolls and I went for the Hunters Chicken (a chicken piece wrapped in bacon and cheese with bbq sauce). How decadent! We can see how this place requires booking to guarantee a table during the weekends. When we are back in the area, we will definitely visit again (and maybe starve ourselves for a couple of days beforehand so we can fit in pudding too).

The friendly atmosphere and smiley faces from staff are just the beginning... prepare to be amazed by the selection of food and drinks - never mind the generous portions! We had the crispy chilli beef and mixed grill sharer - I have no words for how perfectly it was cooked and presented. Value for money and extremely dog friendly (they provide treats and blankets so your fur baby can sit on the bench with you!) Cannot fault this place and we are so gutted we live so far away. I would 100% make this a weekly trip otherwise. 5 star & 11 out of 10 👌💚🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

Fabulous food, vegetarian for nearly 40 years and the meal was superb - delicious, tasty and reasonably priced - as good as I’ve had anywhere in the world, great service with caring staff - would definitely recommend

Come to this place quite regular. Beautiful home cooked pub grub and a lovely pint all at a reasonable price! Family and pet friendly, the staff can’t do enough for you. New COVID measures are in place and works brilliantly! A* for the queen inn!

We have been going back to the Queen Inn since restrictions were lifted for Sunday lunches.Firstly the Queen Inn feels really safe to visit, when you arrive you wait at the door to be taken to your table, hand sanitser etc are available at the door as you enter, there are one way systems in place, the place is spotless, tables cleaned and sanitised between sittings. There are screens in place between tables and on the bars. The staff are great, they all wear masks and provide a fantastic table service for drinks and food.The food is great, cooked perfectly, the only difference with sunday lunches is where the vegetables were brought in serving dishes before the pandemic, food is now plated up before it is served, I personally prefer this way of serving the lunches.In this world of madness it's nice to go to a place that makes you feel safe to enjoy your food and have a relaxing drinkThanks to Gareth, Jane and all the staff for doing a wonderful job

Hubby & me had been self isolating / Sheilding since mid March... Say no more.. This was our 1st visit to our nearest/local pub, which we LOVE anyway.. Was a bit daunting at first seeing familiar faces for the first time in months. BUT the food was delicious as per... For me anyway.. Hubby isn't keen on 'aldente' veg but I love it... Our daughter treated us for our 5th anniversary so we had 2 courses (felt cheeky having 3 lol)We ate with my sister & brother-in-law (who eat at the Queens most weeks) & felt totally safe.. Covid wise.. The whole time we were there. All the staff are lovely & friendly, especially Mel & Layla... Jayne & Gareth are doing a fantastic job.. It was lovely to get back up there with the friendly regulars & stunning views... Blessed to have this lil gem on our doorstep xx

Another great meal at The Queen. Very few places cook a steak perfectly but here is definitely one of those places. Our waitress, Layla was great..not the first she has served us. My other half is a bit of a joker but she wasn't phased by it..she's a credit to the establishment.

Can not falt this place,staff very polite and helpful, at entrance safety and social distance well prepared and spaced apart,service was excellent, food was hot delicious all freshly cooked and plenty!! Good menu with plenty of choice and specials good value for money !! plenty of character inside plenty of outside seating some under cover play area,big carpark, very easy to get to and I loved the stream going through with the different pet ducks,we are definitely going to be back

Went for a meal for 2. Starters are a bit pricey but tasty. 2 steaks ordered and cooked to perfection.What really made the visit most enjoyable was our server Layla.Very polite, efficient and attentive.If i ran a restaurant i would hire her immediately. Thank you team queens inn. X

It was our 1st time out after Lockdown, and it was our Anniversary. We booked a table. We were met at the front door and taken to our table. From there it was table service throughout, for meals and drinks....... The service was outstanding, and the meals were amazing.....We visited on the 13/08/2020, then again on 15/08/2020. Thanks to you, and your staff looking forward to the next visit!

Went here for the first time yesterday evening. Food was good 'pub grub' - nice varied menu. Three of us had the steak and I had the Burger which was very nice. Amazing chips, proper home made double fried and crispy. Very generous portions (didn't need starter or dessert) and reasonably priced. They've got the Covid situation nailed as well - felt very safe and well organised. Will definitely be back!

We go to the queen inn every Sunday for lunch as well as for occasional evening meals.Service is always brilliant, the girls always make you feel at home, the bar staff are great too such a friendly place. Gareth and Jane run a wonderful place.Food is always great, Sunday lunch is like your own home made especially the gravy, no stuff out of a packet hereHighly recommend this place for good food or just drinks especially if the weather is nice you can sit outside in the sun and relax, hope we get some sun soon to try it out again

Went with friends for a meal. Lovely welcome from attentive staff. Very cosy pub with nice atmosphere. Tidy log burner pumping out the heat.Food was lush. Served hot, very tasty. We had a lovely Sunday lunch the food was delicious and the atmosphere was friendly and welcoming. After this visit we went to celebrate my friends 60th Birthday and again the food was delicious.

OK so I've been here before.....today, 1st October 2919 is Lyn and my 42nd wedding anniversary. So we booked a meal and night out in Pieres in Newport, however the mother in law threw a six and we went to the Queen.Well I had a fillet steak M/R which I have to say was tremendous. Tasty, tender and so beautifully cooked.Lyn had a chicken dish which she said was equally as good.So home now, bed and sleep. How things have changed in 42 years.. Thank you so much to Jane and Gareth. Great venue, great service, great company and fabulous food.

Called in here at last minute, so glad we did. Friendly atmosphere, brilliant menu choices. We both chose steak, best steak meal I have had in a long time. Very good prices too!. Went to The Queen Inn on Tuesday evening, for our Anniversary. 1st time in ages. The food was amazing, compared to other restaurants in Cwmbran, We would rate The Queens as one of the best. The service was good, food was amazing, and the beer was good. Looking forward to our next visit..... Would highly recommend!!!!!

A group of 5 of us went for dinner. The King Prawn starter was amazing. However if you do not like curry the choice for gluten free is poor. The same for the desserts - ice cream was the only option. The waitress was pleasant and knowledgeable about gluten. Shame about the choices.

I recently stayed in the area and decided to visit the queen inn for some food with my family. Staff were lovely and looked after us well. And food was amazing. When next visiting cwmbran, the queen inn will be on my return list!

My family and I nipped into Cwmbran for a leisurely lunch following a concert in Cardiff on the previous night. We didn't fancy looking in Cardiff and decided to pull off the motorway en route to see if we could find a half decent pub meal, and stumbled across this place at random. "Looks alright" we thought, and went in. I went in to order drinks and pick up some menus and was instantly charmed by the straightforward, non-pretentious traditional pub atmosphere of the place; just a normal pub, with some locals enjoying an early afternoon pint. I was struck by how cheap a round was (between us we were ordering both alcoholic and soft drinks); "this cost less than a tenner!" I boasted to my table as I plonked the drinks and menus down.

Wife had doctors appointment, then I had to go to Currys, but new computer not ready. About 5:30pm now and neither of us felt like cooking, so thought let’s eat. Tried Dorallt first, but do not do food on Mondays or Tuesdays, so thought the Queen as it is on way home. The Queen has a fair sized car park, and a lovely stream running alongside, which has been made to look something. Although surrounded by houses, you feel almost in a secluded spot. Inside it has that almost country inn appearance. The food and service was excellent, but be prepared for large portions!

Friendly bar and service staff, joined in our Banta with us at the table. Four starters and four mains, all very good. Definitely recommend the garlic mushrooms as a starter or the king prawns. All steaks were delicious along with the duck pancakes. Very good evening will definitely be returning.

A great traditional pub with superb traditional food right on the doorstep, what more could you ask for. Congratulations to "The Queen Inn" and staff. Not a pub in the area can compare.

Finding a family run pub with a great atmosphere, lovely food and drink and excellent service isn't easy these days.

The best pub in the whole of Cwmbran, all with a great selection of guest beers, so many types of Gin, to many to count. Food is out of this world and the staff are super friendly. Highly recommended, for all types of occasions. Get there and find out for yourself you wont regret it.

Went here last week as part of a large party of about 20 for an evening meal. As we were sat outside the land lady came out to us to take our order which was a nice touch and saved us all going to the bar to order our food. Food arrived promptly, we al ate together and everyone was very happy with their meal, to achieve this with such a large party was a fab achievement and all involved provided an exceptional service x thank you for making a good night great. Can't recommend enough, if you visit you won't be disappointed. When planning our next large gathering I won't hesitate to book the queens again.

Not from the area but was recommended The Queen Inn for dinner. SO glad this was recommended to me as it was fabulous. Quaint and cosy pub with a roaring fire! Staff were very friendly, couldn't fault the service. Beautiful home cooked food that was fresh. Such large portions!!!!! Go hungry! Will be back if I am ever this way again!

First time we visited and we will definitely be back. We came across this by searching trip advisor and were not disappointed. Portions were larger than life. We had two courses and were defeated so didn’t get chance to have one of the delicious looking desserts.

If you want delicious home made food at a reasonable price you cant go wrong here. Eaten here a few times and never had a bad meal. Staff always go out of their way to accomodate you but it is advisable to book as tables are limited. Good size portions too.

We had a table right by the bar which was busy with punters ringing the bell to be served, would have preferred the back restaurant bit. The starter had a hair in it so was swiftly returned for an alternative. The main roast was a good size but could have been hotter and the desert was nice. The staff were all friendly and helpful. The company made the night for us.

Returned to The Queen for a Christmas meal with 3 colleagues from work.

Finally found somewhere in Cwmbran that isn’t a normal chain restaurant. This place is in a lovely setting and we had an impromptu dinner there. The service was very good and the food was excellent. It was very reasonably priced. We’ll definitely visit again when we’re back in Cwmbran

Writing this after calling in for lunch. We've eaten here a few times now and the food has been consistently delicious, fairly priced and well presented. Today was simple ham, eggs and chips but hmmmm it was so good . Tasted like home cooked wiltshire ham, eggs o viouslt free range with glorious orange yolks and triple cooked chips. No frozen chips here.

3 of us had sunday lunch today23/09 food was very good, me and my husband had the pensioners portion as we are not big eaters it was plenty for us and not much smaller than the big size. Would reccomend for Sunday lunch as ours was good.

Lovely evening up the queen's. Had wonderful food, very filling and excellent quality. The waitress Jess was enthusiastic about the menu and recommended choices to us. We had food and then picked two great desserts. Thank you for accommodating us. Would come again.

This is a little gem that has to be tried

I had dinner with a pal here and what a meal. We both had a three courser. The food was stunning from start to finish. The steaks were cooked exactly as ordered. The dessert, a custard slice; was to die for. The staff really looked after us and were on the ball. All in all it's one of the best meals I've had for ages. Please keep it up.

Firstly we arrived and the pub is beautiful from the outside. A nice little park outside for the children, an outside eating area to keep an eye on the kids and plenty of parking. I went with my sister and my two young children. Inside is a nice cosy little pub with three sections. (Bar area, dining room for food and another area which I think was both bar and food.) Inside the dining area was a stand of beautiful looking deserts. The lady serving us our drinks at the bar was very friendly and took the time to speak to my son. Drinks were reasonably priced AND paper cups with lids and straws for the kids drink rather than the usual glass which I thought was brilliant! And well needed with my boy. The menu had a very good variety of food. We ordered our food, I had the homemade chicken curry, my sister had the beef madras and my son had nuggets, chips and beans. We decided to eat outside so my son could play in the park, which he enjoyed doing. We didn't have to wait long for our food at all. The size of the meal was very good! The taste of my meal was amazing!! I'm going back today with my partner this time! The curry had a lovely kick of spice to it. The rice was nice and fluffy, cooked perfectly and came with a little salad which was a nice surprise. I didn't leave a morsal on my plate, it was delicious! Would recommend to anyone and everyone. For 2 adult meals, one child's meal and drinks cost us around £30. I am happy to pay that for that food all day long! Today I might try one of their beautiful looking deserts!

We popped in this evening for a bite to eat and as always the food and service was great. The staff were lovely and friendly, the pub has a great feel to it and never fails. Will be back for more of that homemade curry #bestchipsaround

Got to say, the owners and staff of the Queens, are always polite and courteous to all of their customers. The food on offer is always to a very high standard. A superb atmosphere, with a regular quiz night, and lots to chat about, and plenty of variety of drinks, real ales and ciders aplenty. Well worth a visit if you are in the area. Nice, almost countryside location, with a stream running through the gardens. Large smoking area available, undercover, pets and children welcomed. Kiddies play area, too.

Rude staff mediocre pub grub.me and my partner go out regularly but never here again I think they try to overload plates to compensate for taste and quality awfull

We are currently sat in the beer garden with our half empty plates of Sunday lunch because every bit of the meat and vegetables were inedible. If you are hoping for processed fatty meet, frozen vegetables that have been either nuked in a microwave or frozen peas in the middle. Throw in a rude waitress, who serves veg with no spoon to serve to plates, gets stroppy at requests for more gravy,and a general lack of customer service, and you have the typical mass produced and over priced rubbish of the area. If you want some real home made lunch on a Sunday or one of the nicest steaks around then head to The Little Crown in Pontypool or The Upper Cocks in Croesyceiliog. The food and service in the Queens is a joke. On the positive side, the play area outside is lovely for children. Just don't sample the roast.

Sunday lunch. My soup bowl had fibers off the cleaning cloth on the rim. One of my party returned there soup as it was very salty. The main course was very average and the gravy was tasteless. All of the veg came out in the same bowl. I have been to a lot better.

Came here with the kids and the dogs... Owners and staff were really friendly beer went down a treat there was water bowls outside for the dog and a play area for the kids... What more could you ask for... Lovely grounds to with a river running g through... Beautiful setting and we will be returning

Forget the nasty lying reviewers who gave this palace a low score. This is THE PUB to enjoy the best ales and the best food for miles around.

After careful consideration of several public houses in the Cwmbran area, we opted for what we were informed by the queen Inns own website, a dog friendly, family friendly place with a real fire.

First time I have came to queens for food and a drink. I would definitely return with my family and more friends. My daughter loved to chicken nuggets and I tastes it as well and very tasty. Un pequeño pero agradable pub que sirve excelente comida y buena cervezas. Siempre unos cervezas de barril. Buen ambiente y deportivos en directo. Vale la pena visitar durante las seis naciones de rugby. Área cubierta para sentarse al aire libre, y una zona de juegos para niños. Nunca he tenido una mala comida en este establecimiento y han sido en varias ocasiones. Las entradas son bastante abundante, y a veces son lo suficientemente como una comida en su propia. Bien merece una visita.

We took some overseas visitors to the Queens for Sunday lunch. What a treat! Everything was delicious, piping hot and served by smiling staff. The price was certainly reasonable as the quality of the food was excellent. Looking forward to my next visit

it was a little cramped because of how busy it was though service was prompt and food was very good. Atmosphere was great as a good pub should be.

Came here for my birthday and i was'nt dissapointed we allhad the lamb sunday lunch with lots of lovely veg and a good portion of lamb very tasty then the dessert we had apple pie and loads of custard which in some places never get enough but here there was plenty the staff are very friendly.we are definately going back.

Four of us (2 couples) visited the Queen Inn one evening last week. The first thing we noticed was the lively vibrant atmosphere. The menu offered a good choice, including for vegetarians which is not always the case. The staff were pleasant and helpful and the food was excellent. We all enjoyed our meals and said we would visit again.

Eaten here on several occasions but the latest for a group of seven has to be 5 star minimum. Service with a smile on all fronts and the whole group who mainly had steaks of various types and cooking requirements fully enjoyed the meal without exception. Enough said, faultless!

We booked the queen inn for a Sunday lunch family treat. It's a nice location with outside seating and play area. We ordered the carvery meals which we did mostly enjoy. The lamb was plentiful and tender, as was the chicken I'm told. The beef was the least popular, being too tough to enjoy. We were served plenty of vegetables and the gravy was delicious. I've taken one mark off because the food order was incorrect. We had a lamb instead of a chicken. That on its own is no disaster but I've also taken off a mark for the missing 5 portions of chocolate fudge cake. The waitress took our order, then 2 minutes later another waitress came to the table to ask if we'd like dessert, we replied we'd already ordered. We waited...and waited..at least 20 minutes to half hour for someone to slice up 5 pieces of chocolate fudge cake. We were the only diners left in that part of the pub so it didn't seem overly busy. Eventually I went and asked about the fudge cake, the lady I spoke to said they were on the way but I strongly suspect we had just been forgotten about. I said we'd waited long enough and decided to leave. An apology was given. The overall impression I'm left with is the pub has nice food but the waitresses perhaps should concentrate on serving a certain amount of tables each instead of both serving all tables to avoid confusion with the orders they take.

Very relaxing environment,with friendly staff and great choice of good tasting affordable food. Excellent service.

Was visiting friends yesterday and they introduced us for lunch.. Lovely meal so we popped in today for Sunday Lunch.. Pup was packed as the Italy vs Wales game was on.. Great atmosphere! And best Sunday roast I have had in ages! Very welcoming Thank you

Called in to the queen with my wife and grandchildren after a walk through woodland and we called in for some lunch which serves food all day every day, and there is always a warm and friendly welcome the food is always good and there's a wide selection of drink on offer.There also a small play area for the kids which is often visited durning the summer with families in the outside area. Perfect place to watch the six nations or any sporting event with two big screens and TV in covered outside terrace affectionately known as puffing island always a good place to visit any day

First time for trying The Queen for our annual Christmas Lunch in December 2016. We pre-ordered our choices off the impressive Christmas menu and to be fair to the staff they got it all spot on.The food was served promptly, was hot, plentiful and delicious.The staff were friendly & helpful.Will definitely return to the Queen and highly recommend.

I have to visited this wonderful little place quite a few times the atmosphere is always welcoming the staff are very helpful and there is a great choice on the menu .

Had a fantastic family Christmas get together here on Christmas eve, too many of us now to accommodate in one house so the Queens was chosen as we've eaten there many times. Could not have been more welcoming for our 14 guests. We had pre ordered the meals which all came out together and our names were called so they knew where we were. Three courses were delicious home cooked and piping hot. We had the whole of the top restaurant to ourselves and thoroughly enjoyed every moment, staff were courteous and helpful and looked after all of us brilliantly. Will be booking again next year as we'll have yet another family member in March.Big thank you to every one at The Queens for making our special day better.

Well we went to the Queens Inn for our works Christmas lunch. I have to say we were all well impressed. The food was piping hot and delicious, the ladies who served us were very friendly. We didn't have to wait long for our food. Would definitely go back for seconds. Well recommended.

Visited this popular pub on Thursday 15th Dec. as a party of 27 people, my meal was absolutely stunning, fab service and a very reasonable price, all of our party seemed to be very impressed and enthused about the quality of cuisine, service and atmosphere. Would highly recommend a visit.
